MARIE ESTELLE PHELAN - Newport
MARIE ESTELLE PHELAN, 84, of 16 Old Fort Rd., a former legal secretary, died yesterday at home.
She was the wife of the late John Francis Phelan Sr. Born in Newport on Aug. 8, 1916, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Marguerite (Reynolds) Quigley.
Mrs. Phelan graduated from Rogers High School in 1935. Before her marriage, she was a legal secretary at the John H. Nolan and Arthur J. Sullivan law office.
She was active in the Mosaic Club, Salve Regina Guild and the Seaside Garden Club and did volunteer work for various charities. She was a parishioner of St. Augustin Church.
She leaves five daughters, Peggy Phelan of Tokyo, Japan, and Nancy Flynn, Marie Eckler, Patricia Phelan and Susan McDermott, all of Newport; two sons, John F. Phelan Jr. of Portsmouth and Thomas S. Phelan of Newport; two sisters, Rita Russo of Tucson, Ariz., and Nan Quigley of Newport; three brothers, William Quigley and John Quigley, both of Newport, and Robert Quigley of Portsmouth; and 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday 9:15 a.m. from O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Augustin Church, Carroll Avenue. Burial will be in St. Columba cemetery, Middletown.

BEATRICE ANNA (MANCHESTER) SISSON - Little Compton
BEATRICE ANNA (MANCHESTER) SISSON, 85, of East Main Road, the owner and operator of Red Stone Kennel, died unexpectedly yesterday at Newport Hospital.
She was the wife of Nathaniel L. Sisson. Born in Little Compton, a daughter of the late Albert F. and Lillian (Wimer) Manchester, she was a lifelong resident of the town.
Besides her husband, she leaves four sons, Richard L. Sisson of Tiverton, Robert A. Sisson of Norton, Mass., Roger A. Sisson of Taunton and Russell L. Sisson of Little Compton; a daughter, Rachel A. Sisson of Little Compton; three sisters, Lillian Manchester and Georgianna Bodington, both of Little Compton, and Ruth Blow in Florida; and 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Beatrice Anna Sisson and sister of the late Gertrude Gustafson.
A service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Rd. Westport. Burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Old Stone Church Road, Tiverton.

ANNA LaFAZIA - Johnston
ANNA LaFAZIA, 81, of Plainfield Pike, a former employee at Providence Cleansers, died Thursday at Golden Crest Nursing Home, North Providence.
She was the wife of Joseph LaFazia. They were married
for 61 years. A daughter of the late John and Mary Ann (Riccitilli) Arrico, she was a lifelong resident of Johnston. She was employed at Providence Cleansers for 20 years before she retired.
Besides her husband, she leaves two brothers, Joseph Arrico of Johnston and Anthony Arrico of Cranston. She was a sister of the late Pasco, Angelo, Carlo and Rocco Arrico.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 8 a.m. from Nardolillo Funeral Home, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Rocco Church, Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will be in St. Ann cemetery, Cranston.

MARIA DOS ANJOS (RODRIGUES) RODRIGUES - Fall River
MARIA DOS ANJOS (RODRIGUES) RODRIGUES, 90, of Rockland Street, formerly of Middle Street, died yesterday at St. Anne's Hospital.
She was the wife of the late Manuel Augusto Rodrigues. Born in Providence, she had lived in the Azores for many years, and in Fall River for 53 years.
She was a member of Portuguese Baptist Church.
She leaves a daughter, M. Leonora "Lee" Rodrigues of Fall River; three sons, Fernando A. Rodrigues of Antioch, Calif., Octavio R. August of East Greenwich and Richard Rodrigues of Somerville, Mass.; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Edward A. Rodrigues and sister of the late Ralph Rodrigues.
A funeral service will be held Monday at noon in Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.

STEPHEN EDWARD TRAINOR - East Providence
STEPHEN EDWARD TRAINOR, 69, of Venice, Fla., a former employee of Leesona, died Tuesday at home.
He was the husband of Kathryn Cullinan Trainor. Born in Providence on Oct. 12, 1930, he had lived most of his life in East Providence before moving to Venice.
He retired from Leesona Corp. in Warwick after working there for 30 years. He then worked for the East Providence School Department.
He was a member of the Catholic church in Rhode Island and the Church of the Epiphany in Venice.
Besides his wife, he leaves a sister, Jackie Wingate of Westfield, Mass.; three brothers, Walter, Emmet and Joseph Trainor; two stepsons, Bob Cullinan Jr. of Columbus, Ga., and Steve Cullinan of Chester Springs, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Deborah Cullinan of Columbia, S.C., and Betsy Cullinan of Chester Springs; and five grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date in Springfield, Mass. Burial will be in Parhill cemetery, Columbus.

RICHARD P. LASKOWSKI - East Greenwich
RICHARD P. LASKOWSKI, 65, of Allen Drive, a retired warehouse manager, died Thursday at Kent County Memorial Hospital, Warwick.
He was the husband of Carolyn A. (Skoczko) Laskowski. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Alphonse and Sophie (Wesolouski) Laskowski, he lived in East Greenwich for 28 years, previously living in New York.
He was a warehouse manager for the former Auto Palace in Avon, Mass., for nine years, retiring in 1998. Previously he had been a warehouse manager for Hasbro Industries in Pawtucket and East Greenwich.
He attended St. John's College in New York. He was a former member of the East Greenwich Planning Committee and a past president of Hasbro Credit Union.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Stephen R. Laskowski of Simpsonville, S.C., and Richard J. Laskowski of Coventry; a daughter, Tracy A. Lynch of Warwick; a brother, Lawrence Laskowski of East Northport, Long Island, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Henry Laskowski and Sally Hara.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Our Lady of Mercy Church, Fourth Avenue. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery.

HENRY F. DEAN - Cumberland
HENRY F. DEAN, 88, of Colonial Avenue, a retired printer, died Thursday at Bristol Nursing Home, Attleboro.
He was the former husband of the late Katherine H. (Iwanicka) Brais. Born on Aug. 28, 1911, in the Darlington section of Pawtucket, a son of the late Philip F. and Mary A. (McLaughlin) Dean, he had resided in Seekonk and Pawtucket before moving to Cumberland in 1960.
A printer with the J.C. Hall Co., Pawtucket, for more than 10 years until he retired in 1958, he was previously employed by the Adam Sutcliffe Printing Co., also in Pawtucket.
He leaves a son, Philip "Peter" Dean of Seekonk; two sisters, Mary "Tina" Farrell-Woods of Seekonk and Isabelle Retzloff of Warwick; 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John Dean, Hazel Flanagan, Joseph Dean and Olive Donnelly.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from William W. Tripp Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, with a funeral Mass at 10 in St. Stephen's Church, 683 South Main St., Attleboro. Burial will be in the family lot in Mount St. Mary cemetery, Prospect Street, Pawtucket.

CHARLES E. BENNETT - Cranston
CHARLES E. BENNETT, 84, of Broad Street, formerly of Whipple Avenue, Warwick, a retired mechanic, died Thursday in Scandinavian Home.
He was the husband of Edith M. (Johnson) Bennett. Born in Providence, a son of the late Paul and Ernestine (Kupfer) Bennett, he was a resident of Scandinavian Home for two years, previously living in Warwick.
He was a mechanic for the J.M. Trask Co., Warwick, for more than 35 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Warwick.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Kenneth H. Bennett of Cranston; a brother, Howard Bennett of Providence; two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He was the father of the late John E. Bennett.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Juhlin-Pearson Chapel, 754 Broad St., Providence. Burial will be in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick.
