DORIS C. (LATENDRESSE) ROBIDOUX - Burrillville
DORIS C. (LATENDRESSE) ROBIDOUX, 78, formerly of Laurel Hill Road, Pascoag, died yesterday at Bayberry Commons Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Rene Robidoux. Born in Canada on March 13, 1922, a daughter of the late Fred and Olympe (Doucette) Latendresse, she was a lifelong resident of Burrillville.
She was a member of the Burrillville Senior Citizens and of Keegan-Dinnegan VFW Post 1023 Women's Auxiliary.
She leaves a daughter, Gail Rielly of Pascoag; a son, Wayne Robidoux of Glendale; a sister, Lillian Lebeck of Central Falls; and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was a sister of the late George, Normand and William Robidoux.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from Waterman-Brown Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Pascoag, with a funeral Mass at 10 in St. Joseph Church, Sayles Avenue, Pascoag. Burial will be in St. Patrick cemetery, Harrisville.

ELMER M. GARDINER - Bristol
ELMER M. GARDINER, 76, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Bristol, a retired engineering executive, died Wednesday in Naples.
He was the husband of Shirley (Swanson) Gardiner. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Doris Gardiner.
Mr. Gardiner was the associate director of engineering and the head of the engineering experiments department at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in Newport and New London, Conn., until he retired. He had worked at the Naval Underwater Ordinance Station and the Naval Underwater Weapons Research and Engineering Station.
A member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 1949. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Masons.
Mr. Gardiner enjoyed building and flying miniature airplanes and was a member of the Collier Sun Flyers and Collier Aeronautic Club.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Donna Dubord of Bristol and Susan Steiner of Gig Harbor, Wash.; two brothers, Gene Gardiner of Spring Hill, Fla., and David Gardiner of Happy Jack, Ariz.; and four grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Main Street, Wickford. Burial will be in Elm Grove cemetery, North Kingstown.

ALYCE LEWIS - Block Island
ALYCE LEWIS, 80, of Old Town Road, a former hardware store co-owner and secretary, died Friday at Cedar Crest Nursing Home, Cranston, after an illness.
She was the wife of John R. Lewis. They were married
for 59 years. Born in New York, a daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Strahley) Burt, she moved to Block Island in 1949.
Mrs. Lewis had been a secretary for the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions in New York.
She was a longtime member of Harbor Baptist Church. Mrs. Lewis was an active conservationist and enjoyed walking.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Nancy Morrison of Rockville, Md.; two sons, Keith A. and David S. Lewis, both of Block Island; and five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Harbor Church, Water Street. Burial will be in Island cemetery.

MARGUERITE E. BROTHERS - Barrington
MARGUERITE E. BROTHERS, 86, of Grantham, N.H., formerly of Surrey Road, a homemaker, died Friday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H.
She was the wife of the late Thomas F. Brothers. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., a daughter of the late Frederick H. and Wilhelmina (Stolze) Bihler, she had lived in Barrington for 37 years.
A communicant of St. Luke Church, Mrs. Brothers was a member of its Young at Heart Club.
She leaves a daughter, Barbara B. Holmes of Grantham, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Carmelite Monastery, Waston Avenue. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven cemetery, East Providence.
Richard Magan, 39, dies in fall in attempt to aid fellow officers

FALL RIVER -- Richard G. Magan, 39, of Wiley Street, a police officer, died Friday at St. Anne's Hospital after falling from a ledge while answering a call to break up a fight at the Fall River Celebrates America Festival.
He was the former husband of Dawn M. (Dupuis) Magan. A lifelong Fall River resident, he was a son of George R. and Patricia A. (Fidler) Magan of Fall River.
A member of the Fall River Police Department for 18 years, Patrolman Magan was a member of the Emergency Response Team, the Fall River Police Relief Association, and the Massachusetts Police Association. He was also a court liaison.
In 1990, he was commended for outstanding police work in the capture of an armed robbery suspect and for professionalism in saving house-fire victims on Rodman Street. A former K-9 officer, he and his partner, Brix, were commended in 1989 for the arrest of three suspects. Patrolman Magan, who also served as a detective, received the Official Recognition Award for Bravery in 1987 for his involvement in the capture of an armed and dangerous person.
He enjoyed playing ice hockey for the Monarchs at the Arthur R. Driscoll Skating Rink and had coached junior hockey teams for many years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
Besides his former wife and parents, he leaves a daughter, Jenna Renee Magan, and two sons, Nicholas G. and Timothy R. Magan, all of Fall River; a brother, David A. Magan of Somerset; a sister, Susan A. Magan of Fall River; and a niece.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 1335 North Main St. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.

ALVARO TAVARES SILVA - Tiverton
ALVARO TAVARES SILVA, 90, of Adelard Avenue, a retired truck driver, died Wednesday at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River.
He was the husband of the late Georgina (Silvia) Silva and the late Albertina (Souza) Silva. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Joseph and Anna (Souza) Silva, he lived in Tiverton since 1963.
Before retiring in 1974, Mr. Silva had been a truck driver for the Bolduc Lumber Co., Fall River, for 11 years. He also worked for Standard Furniture.
He was a communicant of the former St. Elizabeth's Parish, Fall River, now Holy Trinity. He was a member of the Ocean State Senior Citizens.
He leaves two daughters, Lorraine Rebello and Dolores Duarte, and three sons, Alvaro Silva Jr., Joseph Silva and Edward Silva, all of Fall River; two sisters, Dimentina Travassos of Fall River and Angelina Rego of Jacksonville, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He was a brother of the late Manuel T. Silvia and Joseph Tavares.
The funeral will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. from Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Rd., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 in Holy Trinity Church, Stafford Road, Fall River. Burial will be in Pocasset Hill cemetery, Main Road, Tiverton.

KATHERINE SWART - South Kingstown
KATHERINE SWART, 85, of Johnson Place, Wakefield, died Thursday at South County Hospital
She was the wife of the late Romayne Swart. Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Laura (Engel) Hartman.
She was a member of Wakefield Baptist Church and its Ladies Society. She was a member of the Pettaquamscutt Historical Society and a former member of the Narragansett Senior Citizens.
She leaves a daughter, Linda K. Cairnes of Westerly; a grandson, Jason Clough of West Kingston; and a great-granddaughter. She was the mother of the late Laura Lee Clough.
The funeral will be held Monday at 8 p.m. in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield. Burial will be in Chautaqua cemetery, Mineville, N.Y.

DONALD BERNARD - Providence
DONALD BERNARD, 60, of Plainfield Street, a self-employed carpenter, died Sunday in St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh, N.Y.
He was the husband of Marie Charles Bernard. Born in Jacmel, Haiti, a son of the late Alvis Dagrin and Marianne Bernard, he lived in Providence for four years. He was self-employed carpenter for several years.
He leaves three sons, Donald and George Bernard, both of Providence, and Jacques Bernad in Haiti; four daughters, Marie Y. Faustin in Maryland, and Ruth, Alexandra and Sashine Bernard, all of Providence; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Haitian Baptist Church, 12 Lincoln Ave., Cranston. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery, Cranston.
