Joyce D.Tortolani, 68, of Warwick, died peacefully at home on Saturday, December 25, 2010. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Lewis and Bella (Mello) Lewis. She was the companion of Richard A. Sorgel of Coventry.
Mrs. Tortolani worked as a Secretary in the Business Office of Women & Infants Hospital for 24 years until her retirement in 2009.
Besides her companion, she leaves her son, Anthony Evans of West Warwick. She was the mother of the late Kevin D. Evans. Loving sister of Rosemarie Bacon of Cranston, cherished grandmother of Jazmin Evans, Alexsys Evans, and great-grandmother of Kayden Evans.
Her funeral will be held Friday, December 31, 2010 at 9:15 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Greenwood, Warwick (Exit 12A off I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 597 Jefferson Blvd, Warwick. Burial will follow in St. Ann cemetery, Cranston. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.

Ella M. (Hicks) Assalone, 73, of Coventry passed away Monday at Kent Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph D. Assalone. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Harvey E. and Catherine M. (Spencer) Hicks.
Mrs. Assalone was a communicant of SS John & Paul Church in Coventry and a graduate of Aldrich High School in Warwick.
She was the beloved mother of Joseph M. Assalone, Robert S. Assalone and David J. Assalone, all of Coventry, Donald A. Assalone of Cranston and Nancy M. Eagan (Mrs. Brian A.) of East Greenwich. Loving sister of Leonard H. Hicks of Cranston, Barbara M. Silvia, Ruth E. Yehle, Donna Jean Rose and Mary Ann Chalifoux, all of Warwick and Pauline C. Taylor of West Warwick. Cherished grandmother of five.
Her funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, Route 5, Warwick (Exit 12A on I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in SS John & Paul Church, South Main Street, Coventry. Joseph F. Cardillo, 90, of Warwick since 1951, died Thursday November 4, 2010 at Faxton - St. Lukes Hospital, New Hartford, NY. He was the beloved husband of Maria A. (Olivo) Cardillo. The couple had been married
63 years. Born in Pawtucket, RI on November 19, 1919 he was the son of the late Benjamin and Lillian (O'Donnell) Cardillo.
Mr. Cardillo was employed at the Narragansett Electric Company, he retired in 1984. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and a member of the Warwick Council, Knights of Columbus.
Besides his loving wife he is survived by his three devoted daughters, Paula A. Cardillo of Cranston, Marcia and her husband Dr. Gordon R. Archibald of New Hartford, NY, Jane and her husband Gerald DeGiulio of Warwick as well as his cherished grandchildren, Alison L. Archibald-Perisic and her husband Urosh, Ashley R. Archibald, Gerald T., Mitchell J. and Joseph J. DeGiulio.
He was the caring brother of Ann Pinkava of New Jersey and the late Augustus Cardillo and Lucy Mazika.
His family wishes to acknowledge Jeannette George, Bob Roberts and Toni Briggs for their care and devotion to Joseph.
His funeral will be held Monday, November 8, 2010 at 8:45 am from THE URQUHART-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 800 Greenwich Avenue, ROUTE 5, Warwick, (Exit 12A, off I-95) with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 597 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick. Burial will follow at Saint Francis cemetery in Pawtucket. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday evening 4:00-8:00pm.

Pearl A. (Caires) Faria, 77, of Harris Avenue, West Warwick, passed away Saturday at Kent Hospital. Born in West Warwick, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Claudia (Lawrence) Caires.
She was the beloved sister of Alice Simpaio of West Warwick and Edmund Caires of Florida. Caring step sister of Claudia Kennedy and Barbara Banks, both of Newark, CA. Cherished aunt of several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Visitation Tuesday from 8:30-9:30 am in THE PRATA-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 78 Providence Street, West Warwick followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Anthony Church, Maple Avenue, West Warwick. Beatrice Mercurio of Warwick passed away Saturday, November 20 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Baltic, CT, she was the daughter of the late Leo & Rose (Vivier) Brissette.
An administrative assistant for the RI Department of Education for over 25 years, she lived in Warwick for 55 years with her husband, the late Victor L. Mercurio.
Besides enjoying her family, she was an avid fan of mystery novels, the Red Sox and Patriots, and relished summers at Bonnet Shores Beach Club.
She was the beloved mother of Gregory Mercurio and his wife Patricia, and Diane Maruszczak and her husband Joseph, all of Warwick. She leaves behind a sister, Thelma Bourgeois of Providence, and a brother, Bernie Brissette of Warwick. She will also be dearly missed by the joys of her life, grandchildren Alison, Molly, Max, and Ella.

Florence H. McLaughlin, 77, of Warwick, passed away Wednesday at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center.
She was the wife of the late Frank McLaughlin. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Helen F. (MacIver) Hufnagel.
Mrs. McLaughlin was a Secretary for the Warwick Housing Authority until her retirement in 2002 and previously served as an Executive Secretary for Providence Gas Co. for 20 years. She was a member of Warwick Central Baptist Church where she served as a Deacon of the church.

Sophie M. (Wojtyna) Messersmith, 97, of Cranston, passed away Saturday at Cedar Crest Nursing Centre. She was the wife of the late Jesse L. Messersmith. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Katherine (Troyan) Wojtyna.
Mrs. Messersmith was a Supervisor for Uniroyal Inc. in Providence for 37 years.
