Evelyn C. Riley
Portsmouth resident,
avid seamstress and cooker
Evelyn C. (Ferreira) Riley, 66, of 62 Sylvania Road, Portsmouth, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the former wife of James Chase Riley.
Born in Middletown on Sept. 12, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Marion and Maria (Souza) Ferreira. She worked as a housekeeper at Salve Regina College and St. George’s School.
Mrs. Riley was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking and baking for her children, grandchildren and friends.
She leaves two sons, James R. Riley of Middletown and Sean P. Riley of Newport; three daughters, Sheila Lavault of Newport, Colleen Medeiros of New Bedford, Mass., and Sharon Riley of Portsmouth; three sisters, Hilda Sullivan and Mary E. "Betty" Rodrigues Silvia, both of Middletown, and Margaret Nunes of Middleburg, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Mariano, Joseph and Russel Ferreira.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 30 at 9 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Broadway and Mann Avenue, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.

Lionel J. Archambault
Painter was Navy veteran
of World War II
Lionel J. Archambault, 78, of State Road, Westport, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at Catholic Memorial Home. He was the widower of the late Yvette (Robillard) Archambault.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Horace Archambault and the late Alexandrine (Bergeron) Archambault. He had lived in Fall River for most of his life before moving to Westport 18 years ago.
Mr. Archambault was a painter and was employed by various painting contractors in the local area.
He was a veteran of the Navy, having served during World War II.
He leaves four sons, Ronald, Richard, Roger and Gerald Archambault, all of Fall River; two daughters, Claudette Harrop and Janice Archambault, both of Fall River; two brothers, Alphonse Archambault of Somerset and Lucien Archambault of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Germaine Rego of Portsmouth, R.I.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Albert Archambault and the grandfather of the late Randy Archambault.
Funeral arrangements were by the Boule Funeral Home in Fall River.
Jack E. Buss
Navy veteran,
retired oceanographer
Jack Eugene Buss, BMC, USN, Retired, 64, of 233 Mail Coach Road, Portsmouth, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Misako (Ishimoto) Buss.
Born in Oneida, N.Y., on April 1, 1938, he was a son of the late Clarence and Edna (Johnson) Buss. He was in the United States Navy for 20 years before retiring in 1975 as a chief boatswain mate.
After his retirement, he worked for the University of Rhode Island in the oceanography department on the research vessel the Endeavor, retiring in May 2002 after 22 years.
Mr. Buss was a life member of the Fleet Reserve Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Keith Michael Buss of Portsmouth; a brother, Raymond Buss of Oneida, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Bruce, Richard, James and Helen Buss.
A military funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 9 in the Connors Funeral Home in Portsmouth. Burial followed in Trinity Cemetery in Portsmouth, where military honors were rendered by an honor guard from the Newport Naval Base.
Regina Girouard
Former resident; politically active
Regina M. (Rooney) Girouard, 60, of Rumford, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at Miriam Hospital in Providence, following a 10-year illness.
Born in Boston, a daughter of the late Albert J. and Kathryn C. (McCuin) Rooney, she lived in Barrington before moving to Rumford 36 years ago.
Mrs. Girouard was a department manager at the American Mathematical Society in Providence for over 35 years, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the East Providence Democratic City Committee, the East Providence Housing Authority, the East Providence Charter Review Commission and a former candidate for the East Providence City Council.
Mrs. Girouard was a member of the Riverside American Legion Post 10 Women’s Auxiliary and its recreational card-playing league. She was past a secretary, coach and manager in the Rumford Little League.
She was instrumental in establishing the East Providence Citizens Scholarship Foundation, and enjoyed reading and traveling.
She leaves a daughter, Kathryn C. Cote of Pawtucket; a son, Alan S. Girouard of Central Falls; a sister, Noreen R. Brawley of Stamford, Conn.; a brother, Albert J. Rooney of Palo Alto, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 8, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home in Riverside. Burial was private.
James K. Gaw Sr.
Former Tiverton resident, worked at Raytheon
James K. Gaw Sr., 61, of Dunnelon, Fla., and formerly of Tiverton, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at home. He was the husband of Anita (Joubert) Gaw, his wife of 41 years.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Bruce and Florence (Norris) Gaw.
An Army veteran, Mr. Gaw was a manager for Lockheed Martin in Florida for 17 years before retiring in 2000. He had also worked at Raytheon in Portsmouth for 20 years before moving to Florida in 1982.
He was a member of Wings of Faith Fellowship in Ocala, Fla., and Circle of Friends.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, James K. Gaw Jr.; two daughters, Sandra Gaw and Patty Mathieu, both of Ocala; a brother, Robert Gaw of Fall River; and five grandchildren.
His funeral was private.
Christine M. DiOrio
Lived in town for 30 years
Christine M. (Hurley) DiOrio, 49, of Townsend Street, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. She was the wife of Douglas D. DiOrio.
Born in Riverside, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Hutcheon) Hurley, she had lived in Barrington for 30 years. A homemaker, Mrs. DiOrio was a communicant of Holy Angels Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves four sons, Anthony, Matthew, Michael and Andrew DiOrio, all of Barrington; a sister, Barbara Laurino of Riverside; and three brothers, Joseph Hurley of Barrington, William Hurley of Massachusetts and Patrick Hurley of Riverside.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 12 from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home in Riverside, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Angels Church. Burial followed in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence.
Viola Stuber
Former bookkeeper,
leaves family in Bristol
Viola Stuber, 96, of 54 Barker Avenue, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Grace Barker Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Theodore A. Stuber Sr.
Born in Louisville, Ky., she was a daughter of the late John and Lena (Knoepfle) Haag. She lived in Louisville most of her life, moving to Bristol two years ago.
Mrs. Stuber was a bookkeeper for the Jefferson County School Department in Louisville for 15 years, before retiring in 1969.
She was a charter member of the Aldersgate Methodist Church in Louisville, and the Parkview and Aldersgate Seniors. She was a graduate of the former Spencerian School for Women, formerly in Louisville.
Mrs. Stuber enjoyed quilting.
She leaves a son, Theodore A. Stuber Jr. of Bristol; and three granddaughters, Lindsay M. Ayres of Hanover, Pa., and Megan S. and Ryan D. Stuber, both of Bristol. She was the sister of the late Mildred Kessler and Alma Horning.
Her funeral was on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Sansone Funeral Home in Bristol. She will be buried in Louisville at the convenience of he family.

Dorothy E. Kozak
Homemaker, formerly of Warren
Dorothy E. Kozak, 91, of East Providence, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Eastgate Nursing Home , East Providence. She was the wife of the late Stephen J. Kozak.
Born in Swansea, where she lived most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Sadie (Peters) Lyne. She lived in East Providence for the past six years, having previously lived in Warren and Swansea.
Mrs. Kozak was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Congregational Church in Swansea.
She leaves two sons, Edward Couitt of Providence and William Couitt of East Providence; a daughter, Marjorie Tinder of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Hazel Benoit and Mary Fazzina of Swansea; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Margaret Couitt.
Her funeral was on Saturday, Nov. 9, from the William J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, Warren, followed by a service at First Christian Congregational Church. She was buried in St. Thomas Cemetery in Swansea.
Francis John Connors
Former member of French Club, leaves sister in town
Francis John Connors, 79, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, in Port Charlotte, Fla. He was the husband of the late Helen E. (Ritter) Connors.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late John L. and Emma (Bayer) Connors. A resident of Florida for the last eight years, Mr. Connors previously lived in Bristol for 43 years.
Mr. Connors was a pipe fitter at Cabco Engineering Co. in Pawtucket for 15 years, retiring in 1988. He previously worked at Electric Boat in Groton, Conn., and at Texas Instruments.
Mr. Connors was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Warren and a former member of the Cercle Jacques Cartier Club (French Club) in Warren.
He leaves two sons, John L. Connors of Greenwood, Ind., and Francis James Connors of Conway, N.H.; three daughters, Anna M. Borges of Warren, Barbara E. Evers of Bristol, and Deborah A. Perry of Punta Gorda, Fla.; three brothers, Lester Connors of Arizona, Thomas Connors of Pennsylvania, and Robert Connors of Seekonk; three sisters, Pat Renton of Nova Scotia, Patricia Vanderhoek of Swansea, and Carol Young of Rehoboth, Mass.; 13 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
His funeral is today, Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 9 a.m., from Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Church Street, Warren. He was buried in North Burial Ground in Warren.

Scott J. Rego, 40, of Pleasant Street, Fall River, formerly of Tiverton, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Hollywood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Randolph, Mass. He was the husband of Robynn Ministeri of Tiverton.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of Margaret (Joyce) Rego-Boudreau and Antone Rego, both of Fall River.
Mr. Rego was a shipbuilder for Gladding Hearn Shipbuilding. He had previously operated the former Positive Directions.
He was a Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast.
Besides his wife and parents, he leaves a son, Scott J. Rego Jr., and a daughter, Haley Rego, both of Fall River; a stepdaughter, Brooke Gauthier, and a stepson, Alan Crecida, both of Tiverton; two sisters, Dawn Rego and Lisa Rego, both of Fall River; three brothers, Robert Rego and Antone Rego, both of Reno, Nev., and Danny Rego of Fall River; his companion, Kathy St. Pierre of Somerset; and several nieces and nephews. He was the borther of the late Thomas and Cynthia Rego.
His funeral was held Friday, Nov. 8, in Auclair Funeral Home, Fall River.
