Robert M. Barboza, 61, of Lake Road, Tiverton, died on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at home. He was the husband of Joyce M. (Ouellette) Barboza.
Born in Fall River on Sept. 9, 1940, a son of Joseph Barboza of Tiverton and the late Delia (Oliver) Barboza, he had lived in Tiverton for most of his life.
Mr. Barboza was a member of St. Madeleine Sophie Parish in Tiverton.
Besides his wife and father, he leaves a son, Robert W. Barboza of Tiverton; five daughters, Donna M. Morreira, Ronda M.Medeiros, Lorri A. Barboza and Shelly A. Breton, all of Tiverton, and Sherri A. Barboza of Portsmouth; two brothers, Richard J. Barboza of Westport and Leonard J. Barboza of Swansea; two sisters, Eileen Barboza of Tiverton and Brenda Medeiros of Fall River; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral was held on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from the Oliveira Funeral Home, Fall River, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Madeleine Sophie Church, Tiverton. Burial was in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
Mary E. DeCotis

volunteer for youth leagues
Mary Ella DeCotis, 74, of 33 Sherman Ave., Portsmouth, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at home. She was the wife of the late Michele J. "Babe" DeCotis.
Born in York, Pa., on Dec. 19, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Maurice and Mary (Boyer) Wolf.
Mrs. DeCotis was a head cashier for the former Almacs grocery store in Newport and a member of the Meatcutters and Food Store Workers Local 328.
She was a member of the former De La Salle Mothers Club and had been involved aas a volunteer with the Newport Little League, the Babe Ruth League and the Sunset League for many years.
She leaves a son, Joseph M. DeCotis of North Attleboro, Mass.; a daughter, Rita M. Ferreira of Portsmouth; a brother, Daniel Travis of Dover, Pa.; two sisters, Betty Snyder and Justine Hake, both of Dover; an aunt, Naomi Firth of York; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Maurice Wolf.
Her funeral was held on Wednesday, Aug. 28, from the Memorial Funeral Home, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barnabas Church, Portsmouth. Burial was private.

Louise Richards

Little Compton
Louise (Canfield) Richards, 85, of Fall River, and formerly of Westport, died Sunday Aug. 25, 2002, at the Oaks in New Bedford after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Henry S. Richards.
Born in Cranston, Mrs. Richards was a daughter of the late Edward W. and Hattie E. (Manchester) Canfield. She had lived in Westport Point for many years before moving to Las Vegas and eventually to Fall River.
She served as a receptionist for the Potter Funeral Service Inc. for many years before her retirement in 1981.
Mrs. Richards leaves a nephew, Carl W. Canfield, his wife, Susan H. Canfield, both of Little Compton, and two step-grandchildren. She was a sister of the late Ernest W. Canfield and beloved friend of the late Theodore Souza.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
Carol F. Galvao

Carol F. (Osborne) Galvao, 60, of Middletown, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Newport Hospital. She was the wife of Henrique Galvao.
Born in Milford, Mass., on Jan. 2, 1942, a daughter of the late Horace E. and Hazel (Locke) Osborne, she was a resident of the Middletown and Tiverton area since 1983 and previously lived in Franklin, Mass.
She graduated from Franklin High School, trained at Framingham Union Hospital and graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in nursing.
During the late 1960’s, she was a nurse at Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital.
A giving and generous person, she enjoyed crocheting and writing and gave most of her creations away to family and friends. She also loved to cook.
She had been a member of the Franklin Federated Church in Franklin and the Swansea First Baptist Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Linda Galvao of West Lebanon, NH; a son Scott Galvao and his fiance, Anja of Dessau, Germany; a brother, John Osborne of Wichita, Kansas and four nephews. She was the sister of the late Wayne, Bradley and Susan Osborne.
Her funeral was held on Monday, Aug. 26, at the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, Mass. Her burial was at Union Cemetery in Bellingham, Mass.
Memorial donations may be made by either donating a pint of blood or by making a contribution tothe Heifer Project International, P.O. Box 8058, Little Rock, AR 72203 or the National Association of the Mentally Ill.
Germaine C. Munro
Funeral services for Mrs. Germaine C. (Gauthier) Munro were held Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, from the Sansone Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary’s Church.
The Rev. Clyde J. Walsh was the celebrant and homilist for the Mass. Cecile Kirby, Mrs. Munro’s sister, was the reader for the Mass. Her granddaughters Patricia Hoehn, Alissa Parrillo and Colleen Parrillo presented the offertory gifts.
Eucharistic ministers were Frances Dutelle and Mary Casey.
Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery where Father Walsh read the committal prayers. Her husband Walter P. Munro was the urn bearer.
Clare L. Mosher

Sunderland’s waitress
Clare L. Mosher, 80, of Cedar Avenue, Portsmouth, died on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at home after a brief illness.
Born in Boston, a daughter of the late Roy and Alice M. (Williams) Lowell, she lived in Island Park for the last 47 years.
Ms. Mosher was a waitress at Sunderland’s Restaurant in Tiverton for 20 years before retiring in 1987. She also worked as a waitress at the Chanticleer and the Old Stone Bridge Inn, both in Tiverton.
She was an animal and bird lover who was especially fond of cardinals. She was also an avid bingo player and loved the Boston Red Sox
She leaves a son, Bud V. Mosher of Portsmouth; two daughters, Louise M. Godfrey of Concord, N.H., and Beverly A. Mosher of Whidbey Island, Wash.; two brothers, Charlie Lowell of Cataumet, Mass., and Robbie Lowell of Arlington, Mass.; three sisters, Helen Lowell of Cataumet, Millie Mayer of Arlington, and Sheila Bashline of Greeley, Colo.; and four granddaughters, Kendra, Kara and Kathleen of Concord, and Alex of Whidbey Island. She was the sister of the late Leroy Lowell.
"Grum" disliked funerals, so there will be none. Arrangements were by the Cremation Society of Rhode Island. Her children send their blessings to the wonderful hospice nurses who cared for Clare in her last days and to her neighbors in the Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Potter League for Animals in Middletown.
Christopher J. Mulroy
World War II Navy veteran enjoyed golf, basketball
Christopher J. Mulroy, 78, of Westport, died at home on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, after an illness. He was the husband of the late Beatrice M. (Arruda) Mulroy; they had been married for 50 years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Christopher J. and Mary J. (Martin) Mulroy, he lived in Westport for more than 30 years. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
Mr. Mulroy was a supervisor at the former Morse Twist Drill of New Bedford for 38 years until his retirement in 1985. He also worked in various capacities, starting out as a machine operator, moving into production control and industrial engineering, and eventually becoming line foreman.
Mr. Mulroy was a World War II Navy veteran who served aboard the U.S.S. Varuna and the P.T. Tender in the South Pacific. During his years of military service, he received the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific with three stars, Philippine Liberation with one star and the Good Conduct Medal.
A sports enthusiast, he was a member of the Murphy Basketball Club and played on the Pajama Kids Basketball team, both of New Bedford.
He was a member of the Whaling City Golf Course and was a Class A champion during the 1960s, he was also a New Bedford Boys Club Alumni.
Mr. Mulroy enjoyed spending time with his family, reading and gardening.
He leaves a son, Christopher J. Mulroy III and his wife, Debra, of Westport; a brother, James V. Mulroy of Fairhaven; two grandchildren, Angela M. Mulroy and Elizabeth M. Mulroy; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Anne Wojtowicz.
His funeral service was held on Friday, Aug. 23, at St. John the Baptist Church.
Interment was at Beech Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Potter Funeral Home on Reed Road.
Michelle A. Silvia
Tiverton resident,
worked with handicapped
Michelle A. (Theroux) Silvia, 35, of Fairfield Avenue, Tiverton, died unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at the Canoe River Campgrounds, Mansfield, Masss.
Born in Fall River, a daughter of Robert E. and Lorraine H. (Bastille) Theroux of Westport, she had lived in Tiverton for the past 11 years. She was a graduate of Bishop Stang High School, Dartmouth, Mass.
Mrs. Silvia was a volunteer with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and worked with the handicapped.
She attended Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport.
In addition to her parents, she leaves a son, Jamie Silvia, and a daughter, Kristen K. Silvia, both of Tiverton; a brother, Stephen C. Theroux of Nantucket; two sisters, Carol A. Cabral of Fall River and Tami A. Teixeira of Westport; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 22, at Our Lady of Grace Church, Stafford Road, Westport. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
Paul Haig Mardirossian
World War II veteran; leaves family here
Paul Haig Mardirossian, 85, of Warwick, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at Metacom Manor Health Center in Bristol. He was the husband of the late Patricia (Richards) Mardirossian.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Elder Haig Mardirossian VYM and Veronica (Paskerian) Mardirossian, he lived in Salem and Peabody, Mass., for many years before returning to Rhode Island.
Mr. Mardirossian was the owner of the former Paul’s Watch Repair in Providence, and had been affiliated with several area jewelry companies.
He retired as foreman at the General Electric Plant in Lynn, Mass.
His past employment included stints at the Langilier Manufacturing Co. in Cranston, where he was a machinist. Mr. Mardirossian was also employed by Brown and Sharpe Manufacturing Co. as a turret lathe operator, and the Walsh-Kaiser Co. Shipyard where he was a machinist foreman.
He was a 1936 Central (Providence) High School graduate, where he also took post-graduate courses and was an All-State football player. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design, majoring in drafting, mechanical drawing and blue printing.
He was a Massachusetts Trade School graduate, holding a diploma in watch making and repair.
Mr. Mardirossian served in the United States Army in World War II as a Staff Sergeant, and received the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He enjoyed boating, traveling and sports.
He leaves a daughter, Dallas Vinbury-Russell of Bristol and formerly of Barrington; a granddaughter, Donna L. Vinbury; and a great-granddaughter, Rebekah D. Vinbury, both of Bristol. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Alvira Mardirossian; two nieces, Pamela Beaupre of Florida and Valerie Tessier of Warwick, and great-nephew, Robert Valvo of Narragansett.
He was the brother of the late John H. Mardirossian.
A private funeral with full military honors took place at the Rhode Island Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
