Maria da Conceicao Amaral
Born in the Açores, lived in Bristol 35 years
Maria da Conceicao (Aguiar) Amaral, 82, of Constitution Street, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Silver Creek Manor. She was the wife of the late Manuel Amaral.
Born in Pico da Pedra, Sao Miguel, Açores, she was the daughter of the late Guilherme and Maria (Jacomo) Aguiar. She lived in Bristol for 35 years after moving from the Açores at the age of 47.
She worked as a linker for R.J. Jewelry for seven years.
Mrs. Amaral leaves three daughters, Rachel Santos of Pawtucket, Mary Costa of Fall River and Mary Jo Medeiros of Bristol; three sisters, Margarida Mota of Branpton, Canada, Maria Jose Martins of Ontario, Canada, and Sophia Labao of Bristol; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Amaral was also the mother of the late Jose Amaral and a sister of the late Guilherme Aguiar and Gilda Torres.
Funeral services are Thursday, Sept. 12, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Elizabeth’s Church at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Anntonia Marie Wynne
Lived in town for 43 years
Anntonia Marie Wynne, 88, of Milton Road, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002 at the Evergreen Health Care Center in East Providence. She was the wife of the late Joseph J. Wynne.
Born in Westerly, a daughter of the late Rosario and Francesca (Tasca) DeGange, she had lived in Old Saybrook, Conn. before moving to Barrington in 1959.
A retired accountant, she worked for many years at the Bowen Oil Co. and the former Cherry & Webb department store. She was a communicant of St. Luke’s Church and a member of its Young at Heart club. An avid gardener, she enjoyed Italian cooking.
She leaves a son, Joseph J. Wynne Jr. of Coventry; and a brother, Joseph DeGange of Aiken, S.C. She was the sister of the late Rose Popalaski and Tony and Jimmy DeGange.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 26, from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home in Riverside, with a Mass of Chrisitan burial in St. Luke’s Church. Burial followed in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence.
David H. Muccino
Volunteer of the Year; leaves family here
David H. "Moose" Muccino, 68, of Warren, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the husband of Leonora (Alves) Muccino, to whom he had been married for 40 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Szeregowicz) Muccino, he lived in Warren most of his life.
Mr. Muccino was a salesman for the Deep Rock Bottling Co., formerly of Barrington, retiring in 1996 after 30 years. He later worked as a maintenance worker for E.F.D. Inc. of East Providence for seven years.
He was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Warren for more than 40 years and was a member of its choir. He was Eucharistic minister for Grace Barker Nursing Center in Warren for the past five years and was a volunteer member of the collection counting team at church.
Mr. Muccino was also a volunteer for TAP IN in Barrington for five years, the Bristol Good Neighbors Soup Kitchen and Meals on Wheels. He was named "Volunteer of the Year 2002" by the Warren Grange. He also belonged to the East Providence Community Chorus for many years.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Thomas D. Muccino of Barrington; a daughter, Cheryl A. Moreau of Barrington; a sister, Nancy-Etta Muccino of Warren; four grandchildren, six nieces and one nephew. He was the brother of the late Elaine Menucci.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 22, from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home in Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial in St. Thomas Church. Burial followed in St. Alexander’s Cemetery in Warren.
Elizabeth Kidder
Former resident; lived here 38 years
Elizabeth Sexton Kidder, 84, of Bainbridge Island, Wash. and formerly of Barrington, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2002 at Harbor View Hospital in Seattle, Wash. She was the wife of the late Arthur A. Kidder Jr.
Born in Winchester, Mass., a daughter of the late Isaac E. and Nellie (Fraser) Sexton, she had lived in Barrington from 1942 to 1980. She later moved to Melvin Village, N.H. and then Bainbridge Island.
She was a 1983 graduate of Bennett College in Millbrook, N.Y.
Mrs. Kidder leaves three daughters, Lynda Kidder Sheer of Coconut Creek, Fla., and Dianne Kidder and Sally Kidder Davis, both of Bainbridge Island; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 in the Forest Chapel Cemetery in Barrington. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Bainbridge Island Visualy Impaired Support Group, P.O. Rose M. Gleason
Formerly of Portsmouth,
was a cafeteria manager
Rose M. Gleason, 90, of 70 Harrison Ave., Newport, and formerly of Wentworth Terrace, Portsmouth, died on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Village House Health Concepts Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. She was the wife of the late Adrien Brousseau and the late Eugene Gleason.
Born in Warren, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Rose (Lafleur) Amedee.
Mrs. Gleason had worked at Flintcote Corp. as a cafeteria manager and was also employed by J.P. Coats Inc. of Rhode Island.
She leaves a son, Richard A. Brousseau of Portsmouth; three granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held on Monday, Aug. 26, in St. Anthony’s Church, Portsmouth. Burial was private. Arrangements are by the Boule Funeral Home, 615 Broadway, Fall River.
Inez Motley
Former resident
Inez Windle Motley, 94, of Palm Bay, Fla. and formerly of Barrington, died Friday, July 26, 2002 at the Mariner Nursing Home in Melbourne, Fla. She was the wife of the late Hunter C. Motley.
Born in Saco, Maine, a daughter of the late Joseph and Jane Windle, she had lived in Barrington for most of her life. She moved to Florida in 1965.
She leaves a daughter, Jane Gray Motley in Costa Rica.
Funeral and burial services were held Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Forest Chapel Cemetery in Barrington.
Francisco Augusto deMedeiros
Carpenter for Pearson Yachts, born in the Açores
Francisco Augusto deMedeiros, 91, of State Street, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of the late Maria Marcelina Medeiros.
Born in Aqua de Pau, Sao Miguel, Açores, he was the son of the late Manuel Augusto and Maria deJesus deMedeiros. He lived in Bristol the past 34 years after living in Aqua de Pau the first 57 years of his life.
Mr. deMedeiros was a carpenter for Pearson Yacht for 10 years.
He leaves two sons, Norbert August Medeiros of South Dartmouth, Mass. and Luis Francisco Medeiros of Bristol; two daughters, Mary Lou Cimbron and Olga M. Cabral, both of Bristol; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. deMedeiros was also the brother of the late Jose Medeiros, Luis Medeiros, Manuel Medeiros, Ernesto Medeiros, and Sophia Martins.
A funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 13, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Elizabeth’s Church at 9 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Phyllis Lewis
Leaves family
in Bristol
Phyllis Lewis, 81, of 167 Lincoln Ave., Barrington, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 at Silver Creek Manor in Bristol. She was the wife of the late Charles J. Lewis Sr.
Born in Barrington, a daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Lanzone) Codega, she was a lifelong resident of Barrington.
Mrs. Lewis worked as a cook and server for the state lunch program at Barrington High School for 25 years, retiring in 1983. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church.
She leaves a son, Charles J. Lewis Jr. of Bristol; two daughters, Carol A. Brown of Radcliff, Ky. and Mary Jean Craig of Port Lucie, Fla.; a brother, Louis Codega of Barrington; four sisters, Hilda Barbie of Tampa, Fla., Theresa Rogers of Kittery, Maine and Mary Codega and Margaret Marcoccio, both of Barrington; and three grandchildren. She was a sister of the late Millie DeCesare and William, Joseph, Anthony and Michael Codega.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 10 from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home in Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial in Holy Angels Church, Maple Avenue, Barrington. Burial followed in St. Mary Cemetery in Bristol.
Manuel A. Neves
Owner of Neves Bait, Tackle and Marine
Manuel A. Neves, 55, of Ocean View Road, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2002, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Maria A. (Silva) Neves.
Born in Pico, Açores, he was the son of Serafim Neves of Sacramento, Calif., and the late Rosa (Lopes) Neves.
He lived in Bristol for 27 years after living in Toronto, Canada, and Pico, Açores, where he attended school.
Mr. Neves was the owner of Neves Bait, Tackle and Marine in Bristol, and was a member of the Don Luiz Fillipe Society and the Bristol Rod and Gun Club.
Besides his wife and father, he leaves a son, Jason A. Neves of Swansea; a daughter, Jennifer Neves Ferreira of Bristol; a brother, Duarte Neves of Sacramento; and three grandchildren, Zoe Ferreira of Bristol and Jason Neves Jr. and Tyler Neves of Swansea.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 10, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Lester A. Reed
World War II veteran,
avid woodworker
Lester Albert Reed, 86, of Hancock Street in Tiverton, died Tuesday, August 20, 2002, at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of the late Regina (Martel) Reed.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late James F. and Bertha (Gregory) Reed. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a sergeant in the Army’s 79th Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, Northern France and Rhineland, the Normandy invasion and in central Europe. He was a marksman.
After the war, Mr. Reed moved home to work for the family business, Reed Motors of Fall River. He later worked for Brady Electric and the Fall River Catholic Diocese at St. Vincent Home until his retirement in 1978.
He enjoyed woodworking in his retirement and built a Christmas manger for Holy Ghost Church, as well as a scale model of the new church from architectural drawings before construction. He donated the model to the parish.
Mr. Reed was a communicant of Holy Ghost Church and a member of the Woodrow Silvia VFW Post, the Tiverton Seniors Club and the Nanaquaket Grange. He was also a past financial secretary of the Seniors Club.
He leave his companion, Millie Ahaesy of Tiverton; a son, Ronald R. Reed Sr. of Portsmouth; a daughter, Kathleen Ireland of Portsmouth; a stepdaughter, Pauline T. Wiley of Berkley, Mass.; a stepson, Robert R. Gagnon of Tiverton; two brothers, Milton Reed of Dartmouth, Mass., and Carlton Reed of Fall River; a sister, Emma Kozol of Westport; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Mabel Morin, Dorothy Reed, James F. Reed Jr. and Waldo Reed.
His funeral was held Saturday, Aug. 24 from Hathaway Funeral Home in Fall River, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Ghost Church in Tiverton. Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River.
Kenneth J. Williams
Former firefighter, pro baseball player
Kenneth J. Williams, 68, of 53 Founders Ave., Portsmouth, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Carol (Walsh) Williams.
Born in Providence on Nov. 5, 1933, he was a son of the late Wilson S. and Dora A. (Jennings) Williams.
Mr. Williams served in the Air Force for seven years, including time stationed in Germany. He later served in the Submarine Division of the Naval Reserves.
Mr. Williams was a salesman for many years at the Sawyer School and previously worked as a salesman for over 20 years with the Royal Typewriter Company. He was also a former member of the Providence Fire Department, a former employee of Narragansett Brewery and a former salesman for Dodge Motors.
Mr. Williams was an avid baseball player, playing with the Air Force in the Armed Forces League and professionally with the Braves organization. He most recently played in the Over 50 League and coached women’s softball.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Kenneth J. Williams Jr. of White Plains, N.Y., and his brother, LeRoy Williams of East Providence.
He was the brother of the late Wilson Williams Jr., Ellsworth Williams, Bernice Jones and Irene Moreino.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
