Alice E. Bain
Lived in town over 60 years
Alice E. Bain, 89, of Woodland Road, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at the Crestwood Nursing and Convalescent Home in Warren. She was the wife of the late Robert Bain Jr.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Thomas and Bessie (Savage) O’Brien, she had lived in Barrington for over 60 years. Mrs. Bain was the vice president of the of the former Acme Finance Company in Providence, a company established and operated by her late husband.
She was a 1935 graduate of Simmons College in Boston and a former member of the Rhode Island Country Club and the Barrington Garden Club. She was a passionate lover of animals.
She leaves two sons, Thomas M. Bain of Lincoln and Robert S. Bain of Cranston; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Forest Chapel Cemetery in Barrington.
William Pinch Jr.
Former Bristol resident, World War II veteran
William Pinch Jr. of Greenville, S.C., died Friday, June 28, 2002. He was the husband of Edith VanBlarcom Pinch.
Born in Bryn Mawr, Penn., a son of William and Florence Abernethy Pinch Sr., he was raised in Bristol on the Colt Farm, where his father was a caretaker.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and earned an engineering degree from Haverford College. Mr. Pinch was employed by National Electrical Carbon as technical service manager until retiring. He was a member of St.. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
He leaves his children and step-children, Richard G. Barrowclough of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., James H. and Carleen Barrowclough of Greensboro, N.C., Kevin D. and Anna Barrowclough of Richmond, Va., Gilbert F. Barrowclough of Charleston, S.C., Sarah Flynn of Denver, Margaret Paul of S. Euclid, Ohio, and William and Sharon Pinch III of Arvada, Colo.; a sister, Mary Giersch and her husband Walter, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was also the husband of the late Mildred D. Pinch and the father of the late John D. Pinch.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Antone Medeiros Borges
Longtime Bristol resident, worked for Carr-Fulflex
Antone "Salazar" Medeiros Borges, 84, of State Street, died Saturday, June 29, 2002, at home. He was the husband of Maria I. (Melo) Borges.
Born in Providence, a son of the late John and Maria J. (Medeiros) Borges, he was a Bristol resident for 58 years, Providence for three years, the Açores for 16 years and Falmouth, Mass., for seven years. He was also the husband of the late Emily (Cabral) Borges.
He worked for Carr-Fulflex for 25 years before retiring in 1967. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Elizabeth’s Church, the Don Luiz Filipe Association, the Santo Cristo Club and the Lincoln Club.
Mr. Borges leaves two daughters, Rose Marie Rogers of Rehoboth and Mary-Ann Guadalupe of Bristol; two sons, Richard and David Borges of Riverside; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Carlos B. Borges, John Borges, Maria Amaral and Zelia Amaral, all of Bristol.
He was also the father of the late Antone Borges Jr. and the brother of the late David Borges and Deolinda Brando.
His funeral was Tuesday, July 2, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Concetta Cirillo
Funeral services for Concetta "Connie" (Panarello) Cirillo were held Thursday, June 27, 2002, from the Sansone Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. The Rev. James D. Capoverdi Jr. was the celebrant and homilist for the Mass. Offertory gifts were presented by nieces Mary Panarello and Louise Paiva.
Burial followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Great nephews Michael G. Panarello, Philip H. Bennett, Donald E. Paiva and Donald B. Amaral served as pallbearers. The Rosary and Altar Society served as honor guard at the church and cemetery.
Mrs. Cirillo, 95, died Monday, June 24, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of the late Louis F. Cirillo.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Natalie Ann Gauthier
Communicant of Holy Ghost Parish
Natalie Ann (Bearse) Gauthier, 80, of Fall River and formerly of 78 Warren Ave., died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Southpointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center. She was the wife of Raymond A. Gauthier of Tiverton.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the later Wallace Everett Bearse and the late Regina (Frigon) Bearse.
Ms. Gauthier was a graduate of Durfee High School and was active with the Davenport Softball Champions in her earlier years.
She worked as a buffer in the Gas Mask Department at Firestone during World War II and had also worked as a floor girl at Sova Outerwear.
Ms. Gauthier was a communicant of Holy Ghost Parish in Tiverton.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral was held on Friday, June 28, from at the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, Tiverton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Ghost Church, Tiverton, followed by cremation.
Concetta Cirillo
Born in Barrington
Concetta "Connie" (Panarello) Cirillo, 95, of Bristol, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She was the wife of the late Louis F. Cirillo.
Born in Barrington, a daughter of the late Giovanni and Caterina (Izzo) Panarello, she moved from Barrington to Bristol 60 years ago.
She was a packing room inspector for several years for the former Bristol Manufacturing Co. and the former PF Industries, before retiring in the 1950s. She was previously a beautician, owning and operating the former Connie’s Beauty Shop in Bristol in the 1930s and 1940s.
Mrs. Cirillo was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bristol, and a life member of the church’s Rosary and Altar Society.
She leaves a daughter, Ida Cirillo of Bristol, with whom she had made her home; a brother, Emilio Panarello of Johnston; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was the sister of the late Nancy, Louis and Alexander Panarello and Michael Panarello Sr.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Thursday, June 27, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial followed in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence. Arrangements were by the Sansone Funeral Home in Bristol.
Charles J. Rickerich
Helped design Stars and Stripes Cup winner
Charles J. "Rick" Rickerich, 45, died Monday, July 1, 2002, due to complications of colon cancer at the home of Martha McCann of Tiverton.
Born in New Haven, Conn., Mr. Rickerich was the son of the late Charles Lembo Rickerich and Janice Klueppelberg.
He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in painting and also studied at the Yacht Design Institute of Castine, Maine. While working at Britton Chance and Company Naval Architects in Essex, Conn., he was part of the design team for Stars and Stripes, the America’s Cup boat that won in 1987.
Mr. Rickerich worked at the Ted Hood Design Group for five years before opening Rickerich Design in Portsmouth in 1991. He loved the outdoors, sailing, surfing, snowboarding, reading, sports photography, yoga, art and Emmylou Harris, among other musicians.
He leaves two sisters, Janice R. Schifsky of Arlington, Va., and Gail E. Bond of Arlington, Texas; a stepmother, Mary Lee Rickerich of Arlington, Va..; and his companion, Martha F. McCann of Tiverton.

Howard N. Dunbar
Worked at Naval Underwater Systems Center
Howard Nelson Dunbar, 67, of 13 Narragansett Ave., Portsmouth, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at home. He was the husband of Patricia A. (Cabral) Dunbar.
Born in Newport on March 11, 1935, he was a son of the late Henry and Mildred E. (White) Dunbar.
Mr. Dunbar worked at the Naval Underwater Systems Center for 15 years, retiring in 1935.
He was a member of the American Legion, AARP, the Newport Rifle Club and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed woodworking and ceramics.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Timothy J. Dunbar and Michael S. Dunbar, both of Portsmouth; a brother, Ronald W. Dunbar of Newport; and a sister, Grace Sivigny of Big Timber, Mon.
His funeral was held on Saturday, July 6, at the Connors Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Burial was in the Newport Memorial Park, Middletown.

Nicholas Kelley Jr.
General counsel for Chrysler, stock broker
Nicholas Kelley Jr., 92 of Goodrich Lane, Little Compton, died on Tuesday, July 2, 2002. He was the husband of Margaret (Muir) Kelley.
Borne in 1910 in New York, N.Y., he was a son of the late Nicholas and Augusta (Maverick) Kelley. He grew up in New York, N.Y. and Washington DC, summering in Little Compton. Later, he lived in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. In 1985, he and his wife retired to Little Compton.
He attended Friends School in New York and Sidwell Friends in Washington. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, N.H. in 1927. He was a graduate of Harvard College in 1931 and Harvard Law School in 1934. Mr. Kelley practiced law with the Larkin, Rathbone firm in New York City, were his father was senior partner. He left that firm and went to the Chrysler Corp. legal department in Detroit. During his 25 years with Chrysler he served as general counsel and corporate secretary. He also served as vice president and president of the export division.
In 1960, Mr. Kelley joined City National Bank, Detroit, where he became vice president. Always interested in the stock and bond markets he left to became a broker with Kenower, McArthur & Co., and later with the First of Michigan Corp.
While working for Chrysler, he chaired Detroit’s United Way and Boy Scouts of America programs.
He enjoyed golf, reading and bridge. In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Nicholas M. Kelley of Brookline, Mass.; two daughters, Susan Margaret Kelley of Fairmont, W. Va. and Deborah Maverick Kelley of Providence; and a granddaughter, Anna Wei Maverick Kelley of Fairmont. He was also the brother of the late Augustus Kelley and the late Florence Kelley Worgan.
Private arrangements are in the care of the Cherry Place Home of Waring-Sullivan, Ashton, Coughlin, Driscoll, Fall River.
Esther Burkhardt
Leaves daughter in Barrington
Esther Burkhardt, 97, of Providence, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at Epoch on Blackstone Boulevard. She was the wife of the late Harold J. Burkhardt.
Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., a daughter of the late Max and Ida (Joyce) Gray, she had lived in Sarasota, Fla. and Brooklyn, N.Y. before moving to Providence two and a half years ago.
Mrs. Burkhardt was a former member of Temple Ahavat Shalom in Brooklyn and was a past president of its sisterhood. She volunteered for Common Cause and was a volunteer tutor in Florida elementary schools.
She leaves a daughter, Ann Kittner of Barrington; a son, William Max Burkhardt of Los Angeles; a brother, David Gray of Medford Leas, N.J.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was a sister of the late Nathan and Joseph Gray, Rose Kronick and Sarah Frank.
A graveside service was held Sunday, July 7, in Wellwood Cemetery in Pinelawn, N.Y.
Arrangements were by the Shalom Memorial Chapel in Cranston.
