Therese Lizotte, formerly of Little Compton, passed away peacefully at home in Shearwater, Tasmania, Australia, on Sunday, June 23, 2002, surrounded by her family.
The wife of Henry Lizotte , she was the mother of Jeannine, Bruce, Mike, Laura, Donna, Brian and Mark, as well as several grandchildren.
According to her family, she leaves us with this thought from St. Theresa of Lisieux: "We cannot all do great things, but we can all do little things with great love."
Concetta Cirillo
Longtime Bristol resident, owned Connie’s Beauty Shop
Concetta "Connie" (Panarello) Cirillo, 95, of 28 Aaron Ave. died Monday, June 24, 2002, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was wife of the late Louis F. Cirillo.
Born in Barrington, a daughter of the late Giovanni and Caterina (Izzo) Panarello, she was a Bristol resident for 60 years.
She was a packing room inspector for several years for the former Bristol Manufacturing Co. and the former PF Industries, before retiring in the 1950s. She was previously a beautician, owning and operating Connie’s Beauty Shop, formerly on High Street in the 1930s and 1940s.
Mrs. Cirillo was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and a life member of the church’s Rosary and Altar Society.
She leaves a daughter, Ida Cirillo of Bristol, with whom she had made her home; a brother, Emilio Panarello of Johnston and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Nancy, Louis and Alexander Panarello and Michael Panarello Sr.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, June 27, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, State Street. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Wampanoag Trail, East Providence. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Arrangements are being made by the Sansone Funeral Home.
Betty M. Franco
Former resident; loved to play piano
Betty M. (Astone) Franco, 71, formerly of Barrington and Bristol, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the former wife of Peter Franco Jr. of Lyme, Conn.
Born in Beacon, N.Y., a daughter of the late Anthony and Reba (Demerit) Astone, she also lived in Guilford, Conn.
A homemaker, Mrs. Franco attended the University of Vermont and the Katharine Gibbs School. She was an avid piano player and reader, and loved cats and dogs.
Besides her former husband, she leaves three sons, Brian P. Franco of Barrington, Norman C. Franco of Charlestown, N.H. and Mark W. Franco of Douglas, Mass.; a brother, Robert Astone of LaQuinta, Calif.; and four grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Todd and Bruce Franco.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 26, in the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home in East Providence. Burial was in Beacon, N.Y.
Theodore C. Ferri Sr.
Lifelong Bristol resident, auto body repairman
Theodore C. Ferri Sr., 79, of 10 Goulart Ave. died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Desilets Nursing Home in Warren. He was the husband of the late Ann L. (Palumbo) Ferri.
Born in Bristol, a son of the late Giovanni and Maria (Piciarelli) Ferri, he was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Ferri was a superintendent and auto body repairman for 40 years with Bristol Auto Body Works, retiring in 1988. During World War II, he helped in the war effort by building PT boats at the Herreshoff boatbuilders.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He was a former member of the Bristol County Lions, Bristol County Lodge of Elks, Leonardo daVinci Lodge, Sons of Italy and a former Boy Scout.
He leaves two daughters, Bernadette and Stephanie A. Ferri, both of Bristol; five sons, Theodore C. Ferri Jr. of Bristol, Richard Michael and Thomas C. Ferri of Bristol, Bruce A. Ferri of Providence and Rodney M. Ferri of Pawtucket; five grandchildren, William C. Ferri of Bristol, Kim Elizabeth Ferri of Warren, Theodore C. Ferri III of Bristol, Lauren J. Pradhan of Warren, and Melissa Ferri of Warren; three great-grandchildren Taylor Elizabeth and Nathan Ferri of Warren and Michael Ferri of Bristol; and a sister, Rose Silvia of East Providence.
He was also the brother of the late Floyd, Sam and Angelo Ferri, Phyllis Perry, Josephine Ormond and Gilda Cavaliere.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Arrangements are being made by Sansone Funeral Home.
Helen J. Mendes
Leaves two sisters in Portsmouth
Helen Jean Mendes, 80, of 51 Middle Road, Apt. 304, Anthony House, Portsmouth, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at home.
Born in Tiverton on May 4, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Marshall and Agnes (Brown) Mendes.
Ms. Mendes was a graduate of Rogers High School and the Newport Secretarial School. She worked as a manager at Fannie Farmer’s for many years. She also served as vice president and president of the Anthony House Association.
Ms. Mendes leaves a brother, David Mendes of Bristol; two sisters, Marianna Perry and Alice Silvia, both of Portsmouth; and nine nieces and nephews.
Her funeral and burial will be private.
Gaetano F. Marabello
World War II Navy veteran, lifelong resident
Gaetano F. "Guy" Marabello, 76, of 1014 Hope St. died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence.. He was the husband of Madeline (Lopes) Marabello.
Born in Bristol, a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Mansi) Marabello, he was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Marabello worked in the maintenance department for 33 years at the former Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation in Bristol and Portsmouth before retiring in 1976.
He served in the Navy in World War II aboard the U.S.S. Atascosa. He received the Asiatic Pacific and European African Middle Eastern Theater Medals, the American Area Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was a member of Anthony C. Almeida Post 237, V.F.W., and a former member of the Bristol Fire Dept. and the Cup Defender’s Association.
He leaves two daughters, Susan E. Correa of Bristol and Karen A. Rideout of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Carol Cook and Mary Ann Almeida, both of Bristol; two brothers, Frank and Anthony Marabello, both of Bristol; and five grandchildren, Bethany Moura of Warren, Ryan Moura of Gallatin, Tenn., Jamie and Christopher Barbosa of San Antonio and Allison Rideout of San Antonio.
His funeral services are from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Saturday, June 29, at 9 a.m. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial with military honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street. Visiting hours are Friday 4 to 8 p.m.

Vincent J. Saviano Jr.
World War II veteran, Mt. Hope toll collector
Vincent J. Saviano Jr., 77, of 48 Constitution St. died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at his home. He was the husband for 51 years of Irene T. (Martelly) Saviano.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Vincent J. and Julia (Santulli) Saviano Sr., he was a lifelong resident of Bristol.
He was a toll collector for 31 years for the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority at the Mt. Hope Bridge, retiring in 1995. He previously worked at the former U.S. Rubber Co. and Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation, and also for the Rhode Island Department of Health as a water tester for several years.
Mr. Saviano was a Signalman Third Class in the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II on the U.S.S. Douglas L. Howard. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the European-African Middle Eastern Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon and the American Area Ribbon.
Mr. Saviano was a communicant of St. Mary's Church. He was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, class of 1943. He was a charter member of the Mended Hearts chapter 185 of Pawtucket, and was a member of the American Legion and the Bristol Rod and Gun Club, where he served as a former secretary.
An avid hunter and saltwater fisherman, Mr. Saviano also enjoyed working in his garden and mushrooming. He was a former member of the Bristol Yacht Club and the Bristol Lodge of Elks.
He leaves four children, Diane J. Saviano, Donna H. Moorachian, Vincent J. Saviano III, Judy A. Ciociola, all of Bristol; a sister, Julia M. Carano of Norwich, Conn.; six grandchildren, Stephanie A. Norris of Savannah, Ga., Kimberlee A. Quinn of Cranston, Erika L. Saviano of Bristol, Kristin R. Quinn of Bristol, Kelly M. Quinn of Bristol, and Matthew V. Ciociola of Bristol; and three great-grandchildren, Amala D. and Thomas J. Bender and Quinn Jullian, all of Cranston.
He was also a brother of the late Gabriel A. Saviano and Lucia M. Morrison.
His funeral services were Monday, June 24, from the Sansone Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary's Church. The Rev. Joseph D. Santos was the celebrant and homilist of the Mass. The Rev. Bernard Theroux, Deacon, and David E. Barboza assisted the Mass. Readers were his niece Cynthia Carano and his nephew Paul G. Saviano. Offertory gifts were presented by grandson Matthew V. Ciociola and Ronald Ferreira.
Burial with military honors from the U.S. Navy followed in North Burial Ground, where Father Santos read the committal prayers. Daughter Donna H. Moorachian read a poem at the committal. His granddaughters Stephanie A. Norris, Erika L. Saviano, Kristin R. Quinn and Kelly M. Quinn served as pallbearers.

Matthew S. Troiano
Lifelong Bristol resident,
worked at Kaiser Aluminum
Matthew S. Troiano, 86, of 1259 Hope St., died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Silver Creek Manor. He was the husband of Cecilia C. (Smusz) Troiano. They had been married 63 years.
Born in Bristol, he was a son of the late Matteo and Maria Josephine (Calderiso) Troiano and a lifelong Bristol resident.
Mr. Troiano was a foreman at the former Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. for 38 years, retiring in 1971. After his retirement, he worked for the State of Rhode Island for 14 years at the R.I. National Guard Armory in Bristol.
Mr. Troiano was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was a member of the Kaiser Retirees.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Ronelle J. Meunier of Holden, Mass.; two sons, Matthew J. Troiano of Warren and Christian Troiano of Cumberland; six grandchildren, Joel C. Meunier, Jill P. Perkins, Matthew J. Troiano, Jonathan A. Troiano, Aaron C. Troiano and Michael A. Troiano; and four great-grandchildren, Trevor and Noel Meunier, and Elena and Alexander Perkins. He was the brother of the late Libera Ruggiero, Priscilla Ferrara, Domenic Troy and Mary and Julio "John" Troiano.
His funeral was Tuesday, June 25, from the Sansone Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. The Rev James D. Capoverdi Jr. was the celebrant and homilist. His granddaughter and grandson-in-law Jill P. and Dana Perkins were readers. His daughter-in-law Kathie Troiano and grandson Michael A. Troiano presented offertory gifts.
He was buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery, where Father Capoverdi read the committal prayers. His granddaughter Jill P. Perkins was the eulogist. His grandsons Joel C. Meunier, Matthew J. Troiano, Jonathan A. Troiano and Aaron C. Troiano, and his nephew Matthew S. Troy and nephew-in-law Adam J. Baron were pallbearers.

Evelyn R. Giarrusso
Born, raised in Barrington
Evelyn Rose (Acciardo) Giarrusso, 78, of Delray Beach, Fla., died Monday, May 27, 2002, at the Delray Medical Center in Delray Beach. She was the wife of Armand Giarrusso.
Born in Barrington, a daughter of the late Pasquale and Elvira (Conca) Acciardo, she was raised in town and had also lived in North Andover, Mass., before retiring to Delray Beach in 1990. She spent summers in North Falmouth and Pocasset, Mass.
Mrs. Giarrusso graduated with honors from the Leander R. Peck High School, the forerunner of the present Barrington High School. She enjoyed cooking, golfing, and watching the boats in Pocasset Harbor.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Armand Giarrusso of Farmington Hills, Mich. and James Giarrusso of Pocasset; a daughter, Carol Evans of Denver; two brothers, Alfred Acciardo of Venice, Fla. and Robert Acciardo of Barrington; three sisters, Dorothea Sagan of North Fort Myers, Fla., Eleanor Gagnon of Clemens, N.C. and Ann Verrier of Riverside; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22 in St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Road at Barlows Landing Road, Pocasset, Mass.
Dora B. St. Angelo
Army veteran of World War II
Dora B. St. Angelo, 85, of Patricia Ann Drive, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of Edward St. Angelo.
Born in Quincy, Mass., a daughter of the late Otis M. and Ida B. (Pearce) Bailey, she had lived in Barrington before moving to Bristol seven years ago.
Mrs. St. Angelo was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a registered nurse in Europe.
Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Robert E. St. Angelo of West Palm beach, Fla. and Edward St. Angelo Jr. and John St. Angelo, both of Barrington; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 19, in the Perry McStay Funeral Home in East Providence. Burial with military honors followed in the Forest Chapel Cemetery in Barrington.
