Gertrud Neissner
Born in Germany; owned a deli in NYC
Gertrud "Trudy" Neissner, 94, of 320 North Lane, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Waterview Villa in East Providence. She was the wife of the late Alfred Neissner.
Born in Christ Stolp, Pommern, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Ida Andreaeskowske.
A resident of Bristol for the last 27 months, she previously resided in Greenwich, Conn.
Along with her husband, she was the owner and operator of a restaurant and delicatessen in New York City before retiring in 1968.
Mrs. Neissner was a communicant of St. Jean Baptiste Church in Warren.
She leaves a daughter, Gertrude Wahrenburg of Bristol; a granddaughter, Lisa DeNunzio of Barrington; a grandson, Paul Wahrenburg of Redding, Conn.; and four great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Cassie DeNunzio of Barrington and Christopher and Stephen Wahrenburg of Redding.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002 at 10 a.m. in St. Jean Baptiste Church in Warren. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence.
Fredy P. Roland
Memorial Hospital doctor, World War II veteran
Fredy P. Roland, 83, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at his Poppasquash Road home. He was the husband of Jacqueline (Schenziss) Roland; they were married 62 years.
Born in Paris, France, he was the son of the late William and Marguarite (Baliteau) Roland.
He was a World War II veteran of the French Army.
Dr. Roland received his medical degree from the University of Paris and did training in infectious disease at Institute Pastuer in Paris.
He did his fellowship at Brown University, and a fellowship in infectious disease at Tufts University. He also had a full professorship at Brown University Medical School.
Dr. Roland had a private practice in Pawtucket for many years before retiring as chief of infectious disease at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island in Pawtucket. He was professor emeritus from Brown University Medical School.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
In addition to his wife, he leaves three daughters, Marie-Claude Rossi of Bristol, Martine Matzke of Denver, and Francoise Crowell of New London, N.H.; three sons, Jean-Michel Roland MD, Buffalo, N.Y., Fredy P. Roland MD, Pawtucket, William Roland MD, Columbia, Mo.; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
His funeral services took place Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, from the Sansone Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary Church.
Burial followed in St. Mary Cemetery.

Virginia Moore
Lived in Bristol 50 years; loved gardening and fencing
Virginia (Wolynes) Moore, 84, of 5 Ambrose Drive, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence. She was the wife of Roy C. Moore, whom she was married to for 58 years.
Born in Cambridge, Mass., she was the daughter of the late George and Anastasia (Petrokowki) Wolynes. She lived in Bristol for 50 years after moving from Lexington, Mass.
Mrs. Moore was a secretary for the Ambassador to England Averell Harriman in Boston in the 1940s. She also worked for the Boston Webster Atlas National Bank of Boston.
She loved gardening, fencing, table tennis, telling jokes, reading and people in general.
She was a Cambridge Latin High School graduate and a Simmons College graduate, class of 1941.
In addition to her husband, she leaves three daughters, Linda M. Deston of Middletown, Conn., Stephanie A. Moore-Berkhan of New York and Georgeanne Salisbury of Warwick; two brothers, Robert Wolynes of Cambridge and Peter Wolynes of Gary, Ind.; and three grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Sansone Funeral Home.
Her burial will be private.
Marion Pineau
Former postmaster of Westport Point office
Marion (Borden) Pineau, 86, of Mount Dora, Fla., and Westport Point died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, at home in Florida. She was the widow of Alfred E. Pineau.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mabel (Gifford) Borden. She lived most of her life in Westport Point, moving to Florida in 1983.
Mrs. Pineau was formerly employed as postmaster of Westport Point until her retirement.
She was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1934.
Mrs. Pineau was a member of the Westport Point United Methodist Church, Westport Historical Society, Fall River Historical Society, Order of Eastern Star Seekonk Chapter No. 209 and the Mount Dora Lawn Bowling Club.
She leaves a daughter, Susan Pineau, and her husband, Attorney John P. Long of Westport Point; and three step grandchildren, John, Perry and Patrick Long.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Westport Point Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road.
Manuel R. Martin
Foreman at Tilcon was grandfather of six
Manuel R. Martin, 75, of George Street died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at home. He was the husband of Alice (Bishop) Martin; they were married for more than 50 years.
Born in Bretanha, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of Mary (Rodrigues) Martin of Fall River and the late Manuel Martin. He had lived in Westport since 1972, after moving here from Somerset.
Mr. Martin was a foreman at Tilcon Construction in Acushnet for 34 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local 385.
Mr. Martin was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church.
Besides his widow and mother, he leaves three sons, Steven L. Martin of Warwick, R.I., Kenneth Martin of Dartmouth and Jeffrey Martin of Fall River; a daughter, Sharon Martin of Plymouth; two brothers, Joseph Martin of Somerset and John Martin of Vernon, Conn.; four sisters, Mary Araujo, Victoria Camara and Linda Santos, all of Somerset, and Mary Ann Carvalho of Fall River; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Louis Martin, Phyliss Craveiro and Mary Viveiros.
His funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at Our Lady of Grace Church. Burial was in Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River. Arrangements were by the Oliveira Funeral Home in Fall River.
Viola Stuber
Former bookkeeper, leaves family in Bristol
Viola Stuber, 96, of 54 Barker Avenue, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Grace Barker Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Theodore A. Stuber Sr.
Born in Louisville, Ky., she was a daughter of the late John and Lena (Knoepfle) Haag. She lived in Louisville most of her life, moving to Bristol two years ago.
Mrs. Stuber was a bookkeeper for the Jefferson County School Department in Louisville for 15 years, before retiring in 1969.
She was a charter member of the Aldersgate Methodist Church in Louisville, and the Parkview and Aldersgate Seniors. She was a graduate of the former Spencerian School for Women, formerly in Louisville.
Mrs. Stuber enjoyed quilting.
She leaves a son, Theodore A. Stuber Jr. of Bristol; and three granddaughters, Lindsay M. Ayres of Hanover, Pa., and Megan S. and Ryan D. Stuber, both of Bristol. She was the sister of the late Mildred Kessler and Alma Horning.
Her funeral was on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Sansone Funeral Home in Bristol. She will be buried in Louisville at the convenience of he family.

Roy Langton
Leaves sister in Tiverton
Roy Langton, 62, of Shepherd Street, Fall River, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, after a long illness. He was the husband of Lorna (Manchester) Langton.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Arthur G. and Ellen (Dickinson) Langton. A graduate of Diman Vocational High School, he was the proprietor of the R & M Machine Company of Fall River for 33 years.
He was a member of Fall River Country Club and St. Anne’s Fraternity and was a past president and coach for both Bayside and Maplewood Little Leagues.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Langton leaves two sons, Roy Allen Langton of Dartmouth, Mass., and Michael J. Langton of Fall River; a daughter, Lorrie (Langton) Kfoury of Fall River; three sisters, June Taylor and Hazel Costa, both of Somerset, and Louise Tasher of Tiverton; two brothers, Arthur Langdon of Pensacola, Fla., and William Langdon of Southington, Conn.; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Outreach, 502 Bedford St., Fall River, MA 02720.
Gerald L. Bartone Sr.
Lived in town for many years
Gerald L. Bartone Sr., 62, of Warwick and formerly of Barrington, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002 at Kent County Hospital. He was the husband of Deirdre A. (Pendergast) Bartone, to whom he had been married for 40 years.
Born in Fall River, the son of Yolanda "Violet" (Luciano) Bartone of Warren and the late Angelo Bartone, he lived in Barrington until two years ago, when he relocated to Warwick. He was a communicant of St. Luke’s Church in Barrington for over 20 years, and in Warwick a communicant of St. Catherine Church.
Mr. Bartone was the produce manager at McKeever’s Market in Warwick for the last four years. He had worked in the same capacity for the former Almacs stores for over 40 years. He was an avid hunter, an amateur photographer and enjoyed cooking.
Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two sons, Gerald L. Bartone Jr. of Riverside and James A. Bartone of Providence; two daughters, Pamela A. Marchetti of Middletown and Deirdre M. Paiva of Somerset; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 12, from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home in Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial in St. Luke’s Church. Burial followed in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence.
Isabel Wilson Reed
Former president of Bristol Art Museum
Isabel Wilson (Woollan) Reed, 88, of Tiverton, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at the Roger Williams Medical Center in Providence. She was the wife of Firmin P. Reed for 64 years.
Born in Liverpool, England, the daughter of the late Harold Walter and Christina Campbell (Brodie) Woollan, she came to this country in 1954 with her husband and children.
Mrs. Reed was a graduate of St. Catherine’s College in Liverpool, and a teacher in that city for a number of years.
She served as president of the Bristol Art Museum and was a former member of the Handicraft Club and International House, both in Providence. She also served on a committee of the Roger Williams College Corporation. She was an amateur artist and enjoyed traveling.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Reed leaves a daughter, Elaine Wilson Reed of Bristol; a son, John Wilson Reed of New Orleans, La.; and three grandchildren Jonathan David Reed, of Cambridge, Mass., Ashley King Reed, of New York, N.Y., and Cameron King Reed, of New Orleans.
She was also the sister of the late George Frederick Woollan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 12, at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Hope Street, at 2 p.m.
