ROSE M. CHRISTINA
Miss Rose M. Christina, 93, of Mystic Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center and formerly of Liberty Street in Pawcatuck, died on Saturday morning, Dec. 18, 2004.
She leaves three sisters, Anna M. Christina, Connie A. Christina and Josephine M. Martins - all of Pawcatuck and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Longolucco and three brothers, Angelo, Peter and Jack Christina.
Miss Christina was born in Pawcatuck on Jan. 18, 1911, the daughter of the late Guisepe and Domenica (DiPolina) Christina. For more than 50 years Miss Christina was a bookkeeper at Kaplen's Furniture in New London, retiring in 1966. She was a volunteer at the Westerly Hospital for over 25 years and was a member of the Westerly Senior Center.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004 from Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home, 64 Friendship St., Westerly, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Michael's Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck. There will be no procession from the funeral home.
Burial will take place at St. Michael's Cemetery, Pawcatuck. Calling hours will take place at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Miss Christina's name can be made to St. Michael's Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck, CT 06379.
EUNICE M. REED
Eunice M. Reed, a retired secretary, died Thursday at home. She was the wife of the late Fenwick J. Reed.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late William H. and Margaret A. (Sullivan) Gifford, she has lived in Providence before moving to North Kingstown in 1963.
Mrs. Reed was a secretary for the Stedman and Kazounis Plumbing and Heating of Charlestown for 13 years before retiring earlier this year. She was formerly employed for the former Ladd School for 20 years.
She was a communicant of St. Bernard Church in North Kingstown.
She is survived by one son, Alan G. Reed of North Kingstown, 5 daughters, Candice A. Green, Pamela S. Merritt, Linda J. Murphy and Suzanne Reed, all of North Kingstown and Amy F. Stedman of Charlestown, one brother, Thomas Gifford, of Pawtucket and Florida, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late William Gifford and Elizabeth Larkin.
Visiting hours Sunday 1 to 3 p.m., 6 to 9 p.m. in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Church, 410 Tower Hill Road, Wickford. Burial will be in the R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
RUTH H. MOONE
Ruth Herrick Moone, 87, formerly of Maxon Hill Road, Ashaway, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at the Westerly Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late James E. Moone Jr.
Ruth was born in Ontario, Canada, on Sept. 12, 1917, the daughter of the late George W. and Cora E. (Akers) Herrick.
Mrs. Moone was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Westerly. She was an avid golfer.
Ruth is survived by her sister, Jean Morelock of Sun Valley, Calif.; and several nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the late George W. Herrick, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church corner of Elm and Broad streets, Westerly. Burial will be in River Bend Cemetery, Beach Street, Westerly. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly.
RICHARD W. HOWARD JR.
Richard W. Howard Jr., 76, of Austin Farm Road, Exeter, a retired welder and welding instructor, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at home. He was the husband of Joan M. (Lewis) Howard. He was the former husband of Virginia L. (Smith) Howard of Hope Valley.
Born in Warwick, a son of the late Richard W. and Gladys I. (Dodge) Howard, he had lived in Exeter for 20 years.
Mr. Howard was a welder and welding instructor for Electric Boat in Groton for 35 years before retiring in 1987.
He raised different breeds of chickens. Throughout his retirement, he enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and restoring antique cars. He was a member of the Little Rhody Model A Club. He also enjoyed gardening and attending auctions.
Besides his wife and former wife, he leaves two sons, Richard J. and Gerald A. Howard, both of Ashaway; three daughters, Marjorie B. Lancaster of Charlestown, Gladys J. Bowen of Bradford, and Susan J. Place of Hope Valley; a stepson, Ronald I. Woodmansee of Marlton, N.J.; a stepdaughter, Sandra J. Chartier of Richmond; five brothers, Norman L. Howard of Pasadena, Md., Clayton S. and William E. Howard, both of Warwick, Charles H. Howard of North Kingstown, and Kenneth D. Howard of West Greenwich; a sister, Mildred A. Campbell of North Kingstown; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Robert A. Howard.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery, North Kingstown. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.

S. JOSEPH BOOKATAUB SR.
S. Joseph Bookataub Sr., 75, of 39A Clark Lane, Jewett City, Conn. died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at The Westerly Hospital.
Born in Westerly Oct. 31, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph and Sarah (Stevens) Bookataub.
He was a computer operator for Computer Science Corp for many years, an avid bowler and golfer, and a past member of the Norwich Golf Club. He was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. He was a standout athlete in high school.
He is survived by two sons, S. Joseph Bookataub Jr. and Michael J. Bookataub, both of Westerly; one sister, Anna Serra of Avondale; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Rose Miguel and Mary Keena.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 111 High St., Westerly, on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. Visiting hours in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, are Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
NICOLA RITACCO
Nicola Ritacco, 83, beloved husband for 59 years of Vincenzina (Turano) Ritacco of Greenman Avenue, Westerly, died at his home, Dec. 26, 2004.
Mr. Ritacco was born in Acri, Province of Cosenza, Italy, son of the late Nunziata and Maria Teresa Ritacco. He had been employed as a shearer at the American Velvet Co. until retiring in 1982.
Mr. Ritacco had served for six years with the Italian Army in Austria, Germany, and mostly in the former Yugoslavia and Croatia, during World War II. He lived in Argentina for 20 years prior to immigrating to the U.S.A., settling in Westerly, where he made his home.
He was a communicant of St. Pius X Church. His passions included winemaking and tending to his bountiful garden. A generous and giving person, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he leaves one son, Antonio Ritacco of Winchester, Va.; one daughter, Teresa Renzi of Westerly; two brothers, Natale Ritacco and Pasquale Ritacco, both of Westerly; five sisters, Virginia Capalbo, Angela Celico, Carmelia Scavello, and Rosina Perrone all of Westerly and Rafaela Lupinacci of Acri, Italy; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Antonio Ritacco and George Ritacco; and one sister. Maria Luzzi.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Plus X Church, Elm Street, Westerly. There will. be no cortege from the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
