Rita Plamondon
Lifelong resident of Warren
Rita Plamondon, 81, of 33 Liberty St. died Friday, June 14, 2002, at Jane Brown Hospital. She was the wife of the late Henry Plamondon.
She was born in Providence, the daughter of Hormidas and Eva (Riopel) Trombly and was a lifelong resident of Warren.
Mrs. Plamondon was a communicant of St. Jean Baptiste Church.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald Plamondon of Seekonk, A. Burton Plamondon of East Providence and Paul D. Plamondon of Barrington; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 22, at 11 a.m. in St. Jean Baptiste Church, Main Street.
William H. Moran Jr.
Tiverton’s first harbormaster
William H. Moran Jr., 83, of Main Road, Tiverton, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, in Rose Hawthorne Lathrop Home in Fall River. He was the husband of Madeline B. (Brown) Moran, his wife of 61 years.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late William H. Moran Sr. and Margaret (O’Connor) Moran. He spent his youth in Fall River before moving to Tiverton over 40 years ago.
Mr. Moran graduated from Monsignor Coyle High School in Taunton and Holy Cross College in Worcester. He was an employment manager and manager of the time study department at the former Firestone Rubber and Latex Company in Fall River. He was also employed as an industrial engineer at Mine Safety Appliance Company in Esmond, R.I.
Mr. Moran was a member of the Tiverton Town Council from 1953 to 1954, was the town’s first harbormaster and served on the Building Committee for additions to Fort Barton and Nonquit schools. He served as president, secretary and fail twister in his 30 years as a member of the Tiverton Lions Club. He was also a charter member of the Tiverton Yacht Club, a member of the Society for Advancement of Management in Providence, Holy Cross Clubs in Fall River and Rhode Island and the Purple Knights of Holy Cross College.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Moran leaves a daughter, Marcia Phillips of Tiverton; three grandsons, Richard, William and Charles Phillips, all of Tiverton; two sisters, Margaret Harrington of Tiverton and Elizabeth Clorite of Madison, Conn.; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Moran was also the brother of the late Daniel J. and John Moran.
His funeral will be held Thursday, June 6, 2002, at 9 a.m. from the Cherry Place Home of Waring-Sullivan, Ashton, Coughlin, Driscoll, 178 Winter St., Fall River, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Tiverton.
Willaim P. Carroll Jr.
Formerly of Portsmouth, active in the Grange
William P. Carroll Jr., 82, of 587 Slade St., Fall River, formerly of Portsmouth, died on Friday, May 24, 2002, in Georgetown (S.C.) Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Ethel (Rogers) Carroll.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late William P. and Mary V. (Moffit) Carroll Sr.
Mr. Carroll was a lifetime member of the National Grange, former master of the Fall River Grange, and state deputy of the Massachusetts Grange.
He leaves a a son, William P. Carroll III of Surfside Beach, S.C.; a daughter, Joyce A. Gray of Fall River; two brothers, Gerald Carroll of Middletown and James Carroll of O’Fallen, Ill.; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Helen Kroll.
His funeral was held on Friday, May 31, from the Boyko Memorial Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
Carmen Millotte
Lived most of
life in Mexico
Carmen (Perez) Millotte, 93, of Lister Drive, Barrington, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at the Crestwood Nursing and Convalescent Home in Warren. She was the wife of the late Jorge Millotte.
Born in Guadalajar, Mexico, a daughter of the late Dario and Natalia (Reyes) Perez, she lived in Barrington for 14 years, spending most of her life in Mexico. She was a piano teacher before her retirement.
Mrs. Millotte was a communicant of St. Luke’s Church.
She leaves two sons, Jorge Millotte of Dallas, Texas and Luis Millotte of Mexico City; a daughter, Carmen Messier of Barrington; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was the mother of the late Yolanda Millotte.
A memorial Mass will be held at a later date in St. Luke’s Church. Arrangements were by the William J. Smith and Son Funeral Home in Warren.
Emily Souza
Tiverton resident, worked at Anderson Little Co.
Emily Souza, 83, of Hilton Street, Tiverton, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at home after a short illness.
Born in Tiverton on Dec. 28, 1918, a daughter of the late Joseph P. and Rose (Ferreira) Souza, she was a lifelong resident of Tiverton.
Ms. Souza was employed at the former Anderson Little Company in Fall River until her retirement.
She was a communicant of Holy Ghost Church, Tiverton.
She leaves a son, Peter Paul Souza of Tiverton; two sisters, Louise Mulcahy and Anne S. Turcotte, both of Tiverton; four brothers, John Souza of Portsmouth, Manuel "Jake" Souza and Frank Souza, both of Tiverton, and Antone Souza of Little Compton; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary Pinheiro, Joseph P. Souza and Alfred Souza.
Her funeral was held on Tuesday, July 16, from the Oliveira Funeral Home, Fall River, with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Ghost Church, Tiverton. Burial was in Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Tiverton.
Laura A. Peckham
Leaves family in Portsmouth
Laura Ann (Wadsworth) Peckham, 77, Newport, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of James E. Peckham.
Born on May 6, 1925, in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Chester V. and the late Johanna (Shea) Wadsworth.
Ms. Peckham was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. She was a member of AARP, the Kings Senior Citizen Center, the Easton’s Beach Club and the Middletown Senior Citizens Center.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a son, James W. Peckham of Portsmouth; three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Peckham of Pawtucket, Joanne Peckham of Newport and Patricia Ann Marshall of Portsmouth; a sister, Eleanor Sullivan of Middletown; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Kathleen Wadsworth.
Her funeral was Friday, July 12 at Memorial Funeral Home in Newport. A Mass was held at St. Joseph’s Church in Newport. Burial was in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.
George H. Ennis Jr.
Former resident, horse trainer
George Howard Ennis Jr., 71, of Ivanhoe, N.C. and formerly of Lincoln Avenue, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002 in an accident with his tractor on his farm, "Fetterlock," in Ivanhoe. He was the husband of Patricia (Pease) Casaw.
Born in Providence, the son of Lillian Pearl (Lanard) Ennis of Barrington and the late George H. Ennis Sr., he had lived in Barrington for 22 years, previously residing in Rochester and Schnectady, N.Y.
A 1948 graduate of the Leander R. Peck High School in Barrington, he attended the University of London, England, and graduated from Springfield (Mass.) College in 1970. Two years later, he received a master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota. He was a supervisor of laboratories at Wesson Women’s Hospital in Springfield, Mass. for 13 years, and a hospital administration consultant for the New York state Department of Health for 18 years. He retired in 1995.
In 1990, he received the Patient Advocacy Award from the New York Chapter of Patient Representatives.
Mr. Ennis was a member of the Friesian Horse Association of North America and the Rhode Island chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War era, serving in the 124th MASH Unit in Lintz, Austria.
He enjoyed sailing and skating, and practiced horsemanship on his farm.
Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two sons, Charles A. Ennis of Pittsford, N.Y. and Graham A. Ennis of Albany, N.Y.; three daughters, Valerie E. Hall of Holyoke, Mass., Lynn Pearson of Teachey, N.C. and Kimberly Pearson of New York City; two sisters, Phyllis Buckless of Palm Bay, Fla. and Pamela Hilton of Barrington; his former wife, Mavis (Bond) Ennis of Chicopee, Mass.; and a granddaughter.
A memorial service was held Saturday, July 13 in St. John’s Episcopal Church in Barrington.
Robert J. Harding
Leaves daughter in Barrington
Robert J. Harding, 92, of Claymont, Del., died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at home. He was the husband of the late Virginia G. (McDermott) Harding.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Robert J. and Jennie L. (McNally) Harding, he had lived in Delaware since 1958.
Mr. Harding worked as a purchaser for 30 years with United Engineers, now a division of Raytheon, based in Pittsburgh. A United States Army veteran of World War II, he was an avid Red Sox fan.
He leaves a sister, Doris Franey of Barrington; two daughters, Barbara A. Ushka of Johnson City, Tenn. and Nancy J. Bloodsworth of Newark, Del.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 15 in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel in Warwick. Burial followed in St. Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket.
Arnold T. Silva
Lifelong member of the Portuguese Club in town
Arnold T. Silva, 78, of Summit Avenue, Seekonk, and Rio Villa Drive, Punta, Fla., died Friday, July 12, 2002, at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of Lucille C. (Touzin) Silva.
Born in Providence, on Oct. 31, 1923, he was the son of the late Luiz T. and Maria (Silva) Silva. Mr. Silva and his wife lived in Seekonk for many years and in Florida since 1995, maintaining the Seekonk home.
A machinist, Mr. Silva worked for Valentine Tool & Stamp Co. in Norton, Mass., for 12 years, retiring in 1988. He had previously been employed at Cook & Horton in North Attleboro for 25 years as a kneeler and machinist.
He was a lifelong member of the Portuguese Club in Warren. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching the game. He also enjoyed fishing.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Suzanne L. Pompei of Norton; a son, John T. Silva of Laconia, N.H.; a brother, Luis M. Silva of St. Michael, the Azores; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Ronald A. Silva who died in 1996.
A funeral with veteran’s honors was on Tuesday, July 16, from the "Commonwealth Chapel," of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, North Attleboro, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Stephen’s Church, Attleboro. He was buried with military honors in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Dorothy Frances Hennessey
Longtime Bristol resident, worked at Raytheon
Dorothy Frances Hennessey died Friday, June 28, 2002, in Orange Park, Fla. She had been cared for at the Life Care Center of Orange Park since September, 1999. She was the wife of the late John H. Hennessey.
She was born in East Providence and lived in Bristol for more than 70 years before moving to Sarasota, Fla., in 1992. Mrs. Hennessey graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1933. She worked in purchasing/procurement department as a secretary in Raytheon’s Sub-Signal Division in Middletown and retired in 1980 after twenty years of service.
Mrs. Hennessey leaves a son John H. Hennessey Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Byron Hennessey of Herndon, Va., Brendan Hennessey of Princeton, N.J., Matthew Hennessey of Atlanta, Stephen Hennessey of Naperville, Ill., and Bridget Hennessey of New York, N.Y., and six great-grandchildren.
She was also the mother of the late Susan M. Hennessey of Sarasota, Fla.
There will be a graveside ceremony conducted by the Reverend Aaron Usher of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church at the North Burial Grounds in Bristol on Friday, July 19.
Angelica E. Rosa
Funeral services for Angelica E. (Andrade) Rosa were held Thursday, July 11, 2002, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Elizabeth’s Church. The Rev. Thomas J. Ferland was celebrant of the Mass. Brian Rosa, Jeffrey Goulart and Andrew Rosa presented gifts.
Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery where the Rev. Ferland offered committal prayers. Kenneth Goulart, Steven Goulart, Jeffrey Goulart, Brian Rosa, Andrew Rosa and Jose E. Moitoso were pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Holy Rosary Sodality.
Mrs. Rosa, 81, of Silver Creek Manor, died Monday, July 8, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Jose D. Rosa Jr.
