October 19, 2010

CUMBERLAND. Pedro "Peter" Cardoso, 70, passed away Tuesday at R.I. Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of Janet (Nichols) Cardoso and was married 47 years.
He was born in Central Falls, a son of the late Pedro and Maria (Barbosa) Cardoso and has lived in Cumberland for the last 49 years.
He had been employed as a printer at Hasbro Industries for 37 years before retiring. He was a 1958 graduate of the trade program at Central Falls High School and was a member of the Cumberland Community Methodist Church. He was a diehard New York Yankees fan and was active in local politics.
He was the devoted father to three daughters, Deana and her husband David Zanfardino, Cathy and her husband Rodney Simonini and Nancy and her husband William Henson all of Cumberland; three sons, Stephen and his wife Linda, Kenneth and his wife Susan all of Cumberland and Brian and his wife Sarika of Missouri. He also leaves a sister, Dolores Pereira-Maurice of Cumberland and a brother Joseph Cardoso of Raynham, MA.
He was the cherished grandfather of 13 grandchildren. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and many friends. He was the brother of the late Eleanor Oliver.
At his request, Services will be private. Memorial donations to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Ida Catherine Wolters

PAWTUCKET - Ida Catherine Wolters, 80, of Pawtucket died peacefully Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at the Miriam Hospital in Providence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Stanley Wolters. They had been married 56 years.
Mrs. Wolters was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Walter Hall Sr. and Mary (Casey) Taylor. She had been a nurses assistant at the Pawtucket Memorial Hospital for over 24 years.
Besides her husband Mrs. Wolters is survived by her daughters, Laurene Wolters of Attleboro, and Carol Cook of Pawtucket, her son Paul Wolters of Pawtucket, her sisters Mary Decker of Warwick and Mary Langellier of Pawtucket. She also leaves her granddaughters, Catherine Snead and Emma Durocher. her great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wolters was the sister of the late Lorraine Chaplin, Delores Boisse and Walter Hall.
There will be a private internment of Mrs. Wolters in Swan Point Cemetery.

Theresa H. Crossland

CUMBERLAND - Theresa H. (Forsyth) Crossland, 83, formerly of Marywood Lane, passed away Thursday in the Westerly Health Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Gerald Crossland for 65 years.
Born in Hoboken, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Helen C. (Fahy) Forsyth. She resided in Cumberland for over 20 years, previously residing in Port Charlotte, FL and most recently made her home with her daughter Catherine and son-in-law John in Westerly RI.
She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Westerly RI.
She leaves nine children, Barry Crossland of Portsmouth RI, Mark Crossland of Anniston Alabama, Bridget DeCosta and son-in-law Raymond of Jacksonville Alabama, Catherine Johansen and son-in-law John of Westerly, RI, Mary Flanigan of Fort Collins Colorado, Gerald Crossland and daughter-in-law Cheryl of Raymore Missouri, Ann Marie Urbanek and son-in-law Dr. Anthony Urbanek of Brentwood Tennessee, Elizabeth Palmer and son-in-law Gregory of East Greenwich RI and Sean Crossland and daughter-in-law Stephanie of East Greenwich RI. Theresa leaves a sister Mary Reilly of Nashville, TN, seventeen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday October 18th at 11 AM in the Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
The celebration of her life will be under the direction of the J.J. Duffy Funeral Home.

Helen M. Skrzyp

PAWTUCKET- Helen M. Skrzyp 81, of Oriole Avenue passed away Saturday October 9, 2010. She was the beloved wife of Robert W. Skrzyp.
Born in Central Falls she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Rose (Malek) Kulik. She lived in Pawtucket for the past 50 years.
Before retiring she was employed as a Cloth Inspector for Pansy Weaving Co. of Pawtucket.
Mrs. Skrzyp was an avid recycler and coupon clipper.
Besides her husband she leaves her loving children Joyce Munro Randall and her husband Brian of Warwick and John K. Munro Sr. and his wife Nancy of Pawtucket, 5 devoted grandchildren and 1 cherished great granddaughter.
A Private Funeral was held Wednesday October 13, 2010 from the Karol A. Romenski & Sons Funeral Home 342 High Street Central Falls. Memorial Donations to The Rhode Island Family Shelter 165 Beach Avenue Warwick, RI 02889 or The American Heart Assoc. P.O. Box 417005 Boston, MA 02242-7005 would be greatly appreciated. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Cumberland.

NORTH KINGSTOWN - Roberta A. "Aunt Bob" Chandley, 82, of Dana Road, passed away Friday, October 8, 2010.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late James and Mabel (Donahue) Chandley; and the step-daughter of the late Helen (Shannon) Chandley.
Ms. Chandley worked in reservations for American Airlines for 44 years before retiring.
She was a daily communicant and volunteer at St. Bernard Church. She was devoted to family and friends in time of need. In her youth, she enjoyed traveling.
She leaves a brother, Joseph Chandley of Seekonk, MA; a sister, Shannon (Chandley) Hatheway of Albuquerque, NM; a brother-in-law, William Lynch; a sister-in-law, Elsie Chandley; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was the sister of the late Mary Chandley, Ann (Chandley) Lynch and James Chandley; and sister-in-law of the late Catherine Chandley.
Her Funeral will be held Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 8:45am from the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Burial will be in Mount St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours Friday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Bernard Church Building Fund or to The Childrens Tumor Foundation, 268 Summer Street, LL, Boston, MA 02210 will be appreciated.

SOUTH ATTLEBORO - Joseph E. Prew, 92, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Born in Central Falls, a son of the late George O. and Mabel I. (Coty) Prew, he resided in Pawtucket before moving to South Attleboro over fifty years ago. Joe was an industrial engineer at Leviton Manufacturing Company, Warwick for over eighteen years before retiring in 1983. He was an avid golfer for many years. Joe leaves two sons, Paul F. Prew of South Attleboro and Stephen A. Prew of Rehoboth; a daughter, Geraldine C. Hall of Butler, Pennsylvania and Florida; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. His funeral will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Church, 18 Baltic St., South Attleboro. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. VISITATION Friday 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to the Resident Activities Fund, C/O Life Care Center, 969 Park St., Attleboro, MA 02703 would be appreciated.

Medora G. Cavanaugh

PAWTUCKET - Medora G. (Charland) Cavanaugh, died Monday at her home. She was the wife of Vincent H. Cavanaugh. Mr. & Mrs. Cavanaugh celebrated their 64th Wedding Anniversary last May. Born in Central Falls she was the daughter of the late Medard and Imelda (Martel) Charland. Mrs. Cavanaugh was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church and had worked as a Knitter for the former Health Tex Co. several years ago. Surviving besides her husband are one son Paul Cavanaugh, three daughters, Ruth M. Crowley (James), Helen M. Blount (Michael) and Louise B. Cavanaugh. Mrs. Cavanaugh was the Mother of the late James Cavanaugh. Mrs. Cavanaugh also is survived by two sisters, Marie-Anne Provencher and Lucille Price, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The Funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00am from the CHEETHAM MORTUARY 1012 Newport Avenue. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am in St Teresa's Church 358 Newport Avenue. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery East Providence. Relatives and friends are invited and may call WEDNESDAY 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to be made to Home and Hospice 1085 North Main St. Prov. RI 02904 in memory of Medora.

Florida Proulx

PAWTUCKET - Florida (Chagnon) Proulx, 102 formerly of Aiken Street, Pawtucket died on Monday at Oakland Grove Health Center in Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Armand Proulx.
Born in Canada, to Emile and Palmana (Desautels) Proulx, she had resided in Pawtucket since 1925. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Consolation Church and a devoted homemaker.
Survivors are one daughter, Jeannette Brunelle of Punta Gorda, FL and one son, Robert Proulx of Plainville MA. She was the mother of the late Lucien and Roger Proulx. Also survived by six grandchildren: Diane Philips, Richard and Donald Proulx, Ronald Brunelle, Brenda Jutras and Michele Lincourt. She was the grandmother of the late Theresa Proulx. Survivors also include many great and great great grandchilren. She was predeceased by eight siblings: Leo and Philip Chagnon, Aurore Racicot, Marie Paradis, Paula Chenelle, Graziella Tanguay, Cora Goudreau and Nolia Lavergne.
Friends and relatives are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM on Friday (October 15th) in St. Joseph Church, 195 Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Please omit flowers. Burial will be private. Arrangements under the direction of the Darlington Mortuary of L. Heroux & Son.

George V. Bergeron

JOHNSTON - George V. Bergeron, Sr., 91, of Johnston, passed away Friday, October 8, 2010 at home. He was the husband of the late Mary M. (McDonald ) Bergeron. Born in Plainfield, CT, he was the son of the late George and Blanche C. "Mary" (Gurtin) Bergeron.
George was a truck driver until retiring and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 251. He leaves a son, George V. Bergeron and his wife Arlene; two brothers, Raymond X. Bergeron and Leo H. Bergeron, three sisters, Eileen Cunningham, Cecile Puc and Beatrice Bradshaw. He was the brother of the late Blanche C. Peloquin.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Church, Fruit Hill Ave., Providence. Visiting hours respectfully omitted. Antoinette M. Duffy

PAWTUCKET - Antoinette M. (Vadnais) Duffy, 96 of the Jeanne Jugan Residence, Pawtucket died Monday, October 11, 2010 at Miriam Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Duffy to whom she had been happily married for 68 years at the time of his passing in 2005.
Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late Emanuel and Ludivine (St. George) Vadnais. A homemaker, she resided for many years at Harcourt Avenue, Pawtucket. She loved family, gardening, cooking and care-giving. She was a long time communicant of St. Leo the Great Church, Pawtucket, and was active in various parish activities prior to moving to the Jugan Residence in 2005. She was a graduate of the former Notre Dame Academy, Central Falls.
She is survived by three children, Mary Langlois and her husband, Judge Robert Langlois of East Walpole, MA; Joseph J. (Jay) Duffy and his wife Susan of North Attleboro and David A. Duffy and his wife Heidi Kirk Duffy of North Kingstown; seven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and a nephew Raymond Vadnais of Pawtucket. She was also the sister of the late Emanuel, Raymond and Rene Vadnais. The funeral will be held Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 9am from the COSTIGAN-O'NEILL Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Leo the Great Church, 697 Central Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Friday 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers donations to, the Little Sisters of the Poor, 964 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI 02860, in her memory would be most appreciated.

Laurent Duhamel

PAWTUCKET - Laurent "Larry" Duhamel, 98, of Pawtucket, RI died at home on Monday, October 11, 2010. Mr. Duhamel was the husband of the late Ninette (Paquette) Duhamel.
Born on December 10, 1911, in St. Roch-sur Richelieu, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of the late Rosario and Albertine (St. Laurent) Duhamel. He owned Larry's Lunch on Broadway in Pawtucket from 1947 - 1969 and was a member of the Gais Chanteurs, Our lady of Consolation Choir, LeFoyer Club and Leon Mathieu Senior Center.
Mr. Duhamel is survived by his sons and their wives, Robert and Jane, Roland and Jeannie and Richard and Cheryl Duhamel, 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, his sister, Clarisse Plamondon, his brother, Michael Duhamel, both of Canada and many nieces and nephew. He was the father of the late Jacqueline Rheaume and was predeceased by 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
There will be a Mass to celebrate his life on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Consolation Church, Sabin St., Pawtucket. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling Hours will be held from 5-7 pm on Friday.
In Lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main St., Providence RI 02904.

Elizabeth Breslin

PAWTUCKET - Elizabeth Breslin, 77, of North Providence and formerly of Flint Street, Pawtucket, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2010. She was the wife of the late Herbert Breslin.
Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mary (Panneuf) Allsworth. She had lived most of her life in Pawtucket.
Mrs. Breslin worked in the Jewelry industry for twenty two years before retiring. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late George and Arthur Allsworth.
The funeral will be held Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 9am from the Costigan-O'Neill Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Joseph Church, Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours Wednesday 5-8pm.
