Margaret M. Merrifield
October 22, 2010

CUMBERLAND - Margaret M.(Hodde) Merrifield, 91 of Chambers St. Cumberland and formerly of Sweet Avenue, Pawtucket died Tuesday at the Grandview Center. She was the wife of the late Edward F. Merrifield, Sr.
Born in South Attleboro, MA, she was a daughter of the late John and Sadie (Lynch) Hodde and had lived in Pawtucket most of her life.
She is survived by one daughter, Beverly and her husband Frank Wiesler of Jupiter, FL, one son, Edward F. Jr. and his wife Terri Merrifield of Inverness, FL, seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Dorothy Kelly.
A funeral to which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Monday at 9 AM from the CHEETHAM MORTUARY INC., 1012 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Leo the Great Church, 697 Central Ave., Pawtucket. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grandview Center Resident Activity Fund, 100 Chambers Street, Cumberland, RI 02864 in Margaret's memory.

Earl A. Marchand

ATTLEBORO - Earl A. Marchand, of Attleboro, Mass., a former Boston newspaperman and communications writer, died Friday in his home after a brief illness. He was 79.
A Korean War Navy veteran, Mr. Marchand served as staff writer for the Boston Herald Traveler and Boston Herald American from 1961 to 1980.
During his newspaper years, he won the Sevellon Brown Award from the New England Associated Press News Executive Association. Known in the industry as Earl the Pearl, he became the byline reporter covering many important events including investigating the Kennedy Chappaquiddick incident, and traveling with Pope John Paul II. Known as a fair journalist, he was able to get important interviews with politicians, sports figures and celebrities who normally didn't speak to the press.
Mr. Marchand also served as senior communications writer for former Boston Mayor Kevin H. White, and was senior communications consultant of corporate communications for The New England from 1984 until he retired in 2003.
Born in Seekonk, Massachusetts, Mr. Marchand was a graduate of Boston University and attended the University of Missouri Masters degree in journalism until the college dean placed a personal call to the Boston newspapers editor to start Mr. Marchand's career in journalism.
Mr. Marchand was an adventurer who loved the ocean and enjoyed solo and family travel, making a point of having been to six of the seven continents. He was an avid reader and spent much of his spare time writing magazine articles and crime novels. Other pastimes included following boxing, taking long walks with his dogs, and playing the lottery.
He is survived by three daughters, Mary B. Learned of Carlisle; Pamela N. Lessard of Newburyport; and Leslie A. Sharpe of Attleboro; his sister, June E. Marchand of Seekonk, Mass.; seven grandchildren, and four nieces. He was the husband of the late Elinor (Sartini) Marchand.
His brother George L. Marchand is also deceased.
There will be a funeral service for Mr. Marchand Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 10:00am in the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, RI. There will be visitation for Mr. Marchand Monday from 4-7pm in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited.

Wayne R. Girard

PAWTUCKET - Wayne R. Girard, 35 of Wood Street died Monday at his home. He was the son of the late Andrew, Sr. and Beatrice (Clarkson) Girard.
He was employed as a machinist and was a student of the Yoons Martial Arts Academy in Deleware for a time.He was well loved and will be missed by all.
He is survived by one son, Austin Girard and one daughter Audry Girard both of Pawtucket, one sister Sheryl Genest of Pawtucket and two brothers Andrew Girard, Jr. of Cranston and Mark Girard of Pawtucket and five nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 9Am in the Cheetham Mortuary, Inc., 1012 Newport Ave., Pawtucket. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, Johnston.

Lucy Catherine Bowen

ATTLEBORO - Lucy Catherine(Geraghty) Bowen, a long time resident of South Attleboro, joined the angels in heaven on October 18, 2010. Lucy was born October 20, 1923 in South Attleboro, Mass. She was the loving wife of James M. Bowen for 65 years. In 1957 the couple moved to Greenville, Ohio, where they raised their family and lived for more than 25 years. They retired and returned to South Attleboro in 1980 where Lucy was an active volunteer for the Knights of Columbus and St. Theresa's parish. Lucy was employed in the jewelry industry for many years.
Lucy is preceded in death by her parents: John and Sophie (Vensky) Geraghty, her daughter: Cheryl (Bowen) Bingham, her brothers: Henry, Walter, and Julian Geraghty.
She is survived by her husband: James Bowen, her sons Darryl Bowen and wife Joanne,of Mission Viejo, CA, John Bowen and wife Charlene, of Jamestown, IN, her brother: Ronald Geraghty and his wife Pat of Cumberland, RI, her grandchildren: Darryl Bowen II, Darrel Bingham, James Shields; Nickole Barnes; Great Grandchildren: Cla, Jesse, Aubrianna, Logan, Dakota, Dalton, Courtney, and Billy.
There will be a funeral service for Mrs. Bowen Monday, October 25, 2010 in the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be visitation in the funeral home from 10:00am Monday morning followed by the service at 11:00am. Relatives and friends are invited.

Maria Armanda Craveiro

NORTH SCITUATE - Maria Armanda (Almeida) Craveiro, 62, of Carue Drive, passed away at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. Mrs. Craveiro was a ten year breast cancer survivor. She was the beloved wife of Antonio Craveiro, the former tailor for the Rhode Island State Police.
Born in Gouveia, Portugal, she was the daughter of Antonio and Maria Isabel (Cruz) Almeida. She moved to this country in 1969 settling in Woonsocket. She resided in Scituate for 33 years.
She was the owner and hairdresser for Hair Designs by Maria for many years, retiring due to illness.
Mrs. Craveiro was a member of the Portuguese Continental Union, former member of Coral Heranca Portuguesa, and a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Scituate.
She leaves two daughters, Christine Rei, and husband Paul of Johnston, and Elizabeth Elsea, and husband Steven of Dallas, TX; two brothers, Jorge Almeida and Alberto Almeida both of Cumberland; three sisters Odette De Carvalho of Pawtucket, Maria Do Ceu Antonio of Cumberland, and Maria Jose Duarte of Portugal; two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday at 11 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland.Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted.

Tintra Mary Cochran

SOUTH ATTLEBORO, MA - Tintra Mary (Alessandro) Cochran, 93, of West Carpenter St., South Attleboro, died Tuesday at home. She was the wife of the late Francis Cochran.
Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Domenico and Josephina (Costa) Alessandro and had lived in South Attleboro for over 55 years.
She was retired and had worked as a seamstress for Pawtucket Dress Company. She was a member of the Royal Travelers for over 30 years.
She is survived by one son, William F. and his wife Cheryl A. Cochran of Wells, ME and one sister, Eleanor Stravato of North Providence, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and many nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by threes sisters, Rose Aubuchon, Anna and Nancy Alessandro and two brothers Michael and Antonio Alessandro.
A Funeral Service will be held in the CHEETHAM MORTUARY, 1012 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, RI on Friday at 11 AM. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket.

Ethel L. Martel

Pawtucket - Ethel L. (Oldrid) Martel, 94, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Roy E. "Jake" Martel. They were married for 51 years.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Samuel and Estelle (Esser) Oldrid, she had lived in Pawtucket and Central Falls all her life.
Ethel was a homemaker. She enjoyed listening to music, baking, playing bingo, crossword puzzles, and her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and the many wonderful times she had together with them.
Ethel was the beloved mother of Janice Landry and Robert Martel, both of Central Falls, Cathy Gardner of Cumberland, James Martel, Sr. of North Smithfield and Patricia Buteau of Pawtucket; the loving grandmother of Crystal, Elizabeth, James, Jennifer and Lisa Martel, Christina Boeck, Michael, Robert and David Barrie, Nicole Pascale, Raymond Landry, and Tracey, Melanie and Jeffrey Buteau. She was the great grandmother of Tiana Chece, Natalia and Jake Martel, John Morel, Aiden Ferreira, Marc Colvin, Christian and Grant Boeck, Alyssa, Gabriella and Benjamin Pascale, and Shey Barrie. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Mildred Sabatini and Henry Oldrid.
Her funeral will be held FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22 at 11 A.M. at the BELLOWS-FALSO FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call FRIDAY from 9:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Martel's memory to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904-9826 would be appreciated.

Kenneth R. Hensley

EAST PROVIDENCE - Kenneth R. Hensley, 61, of the Apulia Street Group Home, passed away Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Born in Fall River, the beloved son of Linda (Costa) Pollock of Pawtucket and the late Theron Hensley, he resided in East Providence since 1981. Ken was a member of the ARC of Blackstone Valley and was employed by New To You, Armistice Blvd., Pawtucket. He enjoyed Church, music, dancing, bowling and parties. Besides his mother he leaves his Apulia Street family. His funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 755 Central Ave., Pawtucket. Interment will follow at Mt. St. Mary Cemetery. VISITATION Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to The ARC of Blackstone Valley, 115 Manton St., Pawtucket, RI 02861 would be appreciated.

George L. Bailey

PAWTUCKET - George L. Bailey, 82 of Meadow St. passed away on Monday at RI Hospital after an illness. He was the husband of Rosa (Oliva) Bailey. He was also the husband of the late Doris Bailey. He was born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Lester F. and Margaret (Duhaine) Bailey and was a lifelong resident of the city. He had been employed as a truck driver for the former Fuller Packaging Co. for several years before retiring. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 602.
Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Edwin and Oscar Estrada both of Pawtucket and a daughter Sandra Estrada also of Pawtucket and two grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Thursday at 8 AM from the CHARLES COELHO Funeral Home, 151 Cross St., Central Falls with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church, Walcott St. Pawtucket at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call Wednesday, 6-8 PM. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.

CENTRAL FALLS- Sharon J. Soboda, 53, of High Street passed away Monday October 18, 2010 at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital.
Born in Central Falls she was a daughter of the late Joseph F. and Florence A. (Aubin) Soboda Sr. She was a life long resident of Central Falls.
Sharon was a Customer Service Representative for MetLife Insurance Co. and prior to that she was employed by Hasbro Industries for 18 years in the Information Systems and the Engineering Departments.
Sharon was the CCD Director at St. Joseph's Church Central Falls for 20 years.
She leaves 1 brother Joseph F. Soboda Jr. and his wife Claire of Rehoboth, nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert J. Soboda.
Her funeral will be held Friday October 22, 2010 at 9:00 AM from the Karol A.Romenski & Sons Funeral Home 342 High Street Central Falls with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Church 391 High Street Central Falls at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. CALLING HOURS THURSDAY FROM 4:00 PM TO 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery Pawtucket

ATTLEBORO - John E. Henshaw, of Liberty Drive, passed away on Friday at Home & Hospice Care of RI in Providence after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Shirley A. (Durand) Henshaw and had been married for 32 years.
He was born in Central Falls, a son of the late John and Gladys (Jamison) Henshaw.
Besides his wife he leaves 2 daughters, Frankie Parillo of So. Attleboro and Charlotte Salzillo of Pawtucket; 2 sons, Patrick Nassaney and Rev. Daniel Nassaney O. CARM. Both of No. Smithfield, 3 granddaughters and 3 grandsons. Flowers are respectfully omitted, donations to Home & Hospice Care of RI, 1055 No. Main St. Prov. RI would be appreciated.
A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, October 22nd at 11AM in the Charles Coelho Funeral Home, 151 Cross St., Central Falls. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call Friday from 9 AM. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow at the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
