DAVE PINARDI
Dave Serverino Pinardi of Montague, Mass., died on Sept. 13, 2004, at his home surrounded by family and many friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Early in his life, he was introduced to music by his mother, a stride piano player. He chose to play the cornet, or more correctly, the cornet chose him. He created the Paradise City Jazz Band, a group of uniquely talented musicians. They played locally, nationally and internationally, at such venues as First Night at Boston's Symphony Hall and Queens Hall in Edinburgh. His band was featured at jazz festivals in Edinburgh, Scotland; Cork, Ireland; Marciac, France; a tour in Australia; and in San Diego, Sacramento, Los Angeles and Palm Springs in California, Sun Valley and the Newport Jazz Festival. He played for Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands when she visited St. Maarten and for numerous people who just loved his style of Dixieland jazz music. He played extensively in New England from the Moles Eye in Brattleboro, Vt. to the Depot in Northampton to Skipper's Dock in Stonington. His last gig was in Boston at the "Top of the Hub" in the Prudential Building.
If we limit Pinardi to musician, we miss the rare quality of this very special and unique person who shared his talent, his humor, his cooking ability and his interest in all things with so many people. His "toonvelope" cartoons are prized by anyone lucky enough to have received one in the mail.
Dave Pinardi was born in Westerly, on April 4, 1933, the son of Peter and Elvira (Marra) Pinardi and brother of Mary Lou. He graduated from Westerly High School and attended URI.
