C. Edwin Lewis, Jr. age 84 of Wilbur Ave. a retired Special Insurance Agent died Wednesday at R. I. Hospital. He was the husband of the late Joanne ( Shellenberger ) Lewis. Born in Cranston a son of the late Charles Edwin Lewis Sr. and Bessie I. ( Boring ) Lewis he had been a lifelong resident of Cranston. Mr. Lewis served in the U. S Army as a Technical Sergeant during WWII in London. He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Rhode Island and a member of the Phi Mu Delta Fraternity at the University. Mr. Lewis was a special agent in the Insurance Industry and started his career with Middlesex Mutual which was acquired by Century Mutual then was employed at Attleboro Mutual and retired in 1995 from NIF Services in Warwick. He was a member of the New England 1752 Club for Insurance Professionals. He was a past president of the Cranston Historical Society, was a past president of the Oaklawn Library Assoc. which is now affiliated with the Cranston Library Assoc. He was a member and held the rank of Captain in the Pawtuxet Rangers. He was a member of the Gaspee Days Committee and the Bi-Centennial Committee for the State of R. I. He was a member of the Oaklawn Community Baptist Church and had served as Moderator and Deacon. Mr. Lewis was an Auctioneer. He is survived by two sons; Chuck Lewis of Warwick and Scott P. Lewis of North Kingstown and his companion Kathleen M. Harris of Cranston. A graveside service will be Friday January 2nd at 9:30 AM at Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, Post Rd. North Kingstown followed by a Memorial Service at 11 AM in Meshanticut Park Baptist Church, 180 Oaklawn Ave. Cranston. memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society will be Appreciated.

West Warwick – Raymond G. Ray, age 73, of Burlingame Road, a retired lithographer and musician, died Monday, December 29, at Kent Hospital, Warwick. He was the husband of Cecelia K. (Ventura) Ray. A lifelong resident of West Warwick, he was the son of Mabel (Mattias) Ray of West Warwick and the late Joseph A. Ray Sr. He worked for over 40 years as a lithographer last working for Jay Printing of Warwick for 10 years before retiring in 1995. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War who also served four years with the United States Naval Reserve in Providence. He was a part-time musician who played clarinet and saxophone with the 440th Army Band at Fort Bragg, NC. He also played for many years with the Fred Shadeck Band who over the years played many times at the former Tiogue Vista. He was a member of American Legion Post 2, West Warwick. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Cranston Country Club where he had also worked part-time as a greens keeper. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by three sons, Brian G. Ray of Norfolk, MA, Michael J. Ray of West Warwick and Timothy J. Ray of Providence; one brother, Joseph A. Ray Jr. of West Warwick and four grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, December 31, at 10 am in SS. Peter & Paul Church, Highland St., West Warwick. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
Myra L. Crossley

North Kingstown – Myra L. Crossley, age 79, of Deerfield Court, died Wednesday, December 31, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of Richard A. Crossley. They had been married 57 years. Born in Chicago, IL, a daughter of the late Max and Marie (Kosterka) Leskiw, she had lived in Wayne, NJ and Candia, NH before moving to North Kingstown seven years ago. She was a member of All Saints Memorial Church, Providence, where she was a very active volunteer especially helping to decorate the sanctuary at Easter and Christmas. She attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Wickford. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels who often baked holiday cookies for those she served meals to. She loved knitting and sewing and enjoyed playing cards and games. She was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan. Born to Ukrainian immigrants, she was very proud of her heritage. Spending time with her family was very important to her and she will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, twins Bonnie Arsenault of Greene, RI and Billie Ruggiero of Mansfield, NJ and Barbara Hayes of Seekonk, MA; two sons, Rick Crossley of Phillipsburg, NJ and Scott Crossley, Rehoboth, MA; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Walter Leskiw. Funeral service Sunday, January 4, at 12 Noon in All Saints Memorial Church, Westminster St., Providence. Linda P. Lavallee

Linda P. Lavallee age 62 of Ashaway Road Westerly died Monday at home. She was the former wife of Rev. Donald A. Lavallee. Born in Providence a daughter of the late Edmund E. and Virginia ( Macomber ) Pattison she had lived in Cranston for many years moving to Exeter and Westerly 7 years ago. Mrs. Lavallee was a legal assistant for a law office in Wakefield. She was a volunteer at the W.A.R.M Shelter in Westerly, attended the Church of the Holy Spirit in Charlestown, enjoyed gardening and doing puzzles. She is survied by a son David R. Lavallee and his wife Jessica of North Kingstown. A Memorial service conducted by the Rev. Stahl will be Wednesday January 7th at 7 PM at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 4150 Old Post Road, Charlestown, R. I. 02813. East Greenwich – Allen R. G. “Boots” Peabody Jr., age 69, of Adirondack Drive, a builder and officer of a home construction company, died Saturday, January 3, at Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Barbara J. (Inglis) Peabody. Born in Warwick, a son of Helen (Warhurst) Peabody of Rutland, VT and the late Allen R.G. Peabody Sr., he had lived in West Warwick before moving to East Greenwich in 1967. He had worked for forty years in the home construction industry and was an officer of Greenwich Valley Builders Inc. of East Greenwich. He was a United States Army Veteran. He later served in the United States Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Rhode Island Home Builders Association. He enjoyed bowling and golf. He also enjoyed being involved with his grandchildren’s sports and activities. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Allen R.G. Peabody III of Coventry and Steven J. Peabody of West Warwick; two sisters, Sally Zetts of FLA and Margaret McDonough of Danby, VT and four grandchildren. Funeral service Wednesday, January 7, at 10 am at Carpenter-Jenks Quaker Lane Chapel, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick. Burial with military honors will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.

Warwick- Dorothy C. Fraser age 92 of West Shore Rd. a retired registered nurse died Monday at the Kent Regency Center, Warwick. She was the wife of the late Carl R. Fraser. Born in Pawlet, Vermont a daughter of the late Charles H. and Jennie E. ( Carpenter ) Sawyer she had lived in Warwick since 1950. Mrs. Fraser graduated from the R. I. Hospital School of Nursing in 1932 as a Registered Nurse. Was a member of the R. I. Hospital Nurses Alumni Association. She worked at R. I. Hospital, the former Lying-In Hospital, was a charge nurse at the Scandinavian Home of Cranston, had worked at Brown University Infirmary and for many private Doctors. Mrs. Fraser was a member of the Spring Green Senior Club; the R. S. V. P.; Lucy C. Ayers Home for Nurses, Inc. and Mathewson Street United Methodist Church of Providence. She is survived by one son; John C. Fraser of Warwick, one daughter Gwendolyn E. DeFusco of Warwick, 7 grandchildren and 4 great grand children. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM with a funeral service conducted by the Rev. Warwick – Alice M. Shuman, age 82, of Pocahontas Drive, a retired telephone operator, died Tuesday, January 6, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of Edgar L. Shuman. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late James and Bertha (Brown) O’Rourke, she had lived in Warwick since 1987. She worked for 15 years as an operator for several local companies before retiring. She was a very active member of Pawtuxet Baptist Church, Cranston. She was a member of the Gaspee Seniors. She was an avid homemaker and an excellent baker. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Alan L. Shuman of Narragansett; one daughter, Janet Calligano of Cranston; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Scott Roberts, will be held Saturday, January 10, at 10:00 am in Pawtuxet Baptist Church, Broad Street, Cranston. Anna T. Phelps age 71 of Victory Highway a retired teacher and volunteer died Wednesday at home. She was the wife of Donald K. Phelps. Born in Providence a daughter of the late Paul and Mary ( Longo ) Ricciardi she had lived in West Greenwich since 1956. Mrs. Phelps was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island and received her masters degree in Political Science from URI in 1978. She had taught political science at CCRI before retiring. Mrs. Phelps had also worked at the former Health Data Systems. She was a volunteer for CASA, court appointed special advocate. Mrs. Phelps was a member of Amnesty International, and enjoyed her family and her home. Besides her husband Donald, she is survived by one daughter; Judy M. Ogg of West Greenwich, two sons; Mark C. Phelps of Attleboro, MA and Tony C. Phelps of West Greenwich. One brother; Joseph N. Ricciardi of Vero Beach, Fla. and one sister Corinne Jackson of Brooklin, ME. and eight grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Paul M. Ricciardi. The funeral service officiated by her son Tony C. Phelps will be Saturday at 11 AM at Carpenter-Jenks Quaker Lane Chapel, 659 East Greenwich Ave. West Warwick. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, East Greenwich.

Sister Marie-Madeline Paradis - North Providence
Sister Marie-Madeline Paradis, 88, Franciscan Missionary of Mary of Ein Karim Community died Friday, May 14 at St Antoine’s Residence in North Smithfield.
Sister entered the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary Jan. 10, 1940, In Quebec, Canada. She was sent to North Providence to complete her religious formation and pronounced her final vows December 1948.
She was a skilled seamstress and her ministries utilized this skill in communities in New York, Providence, Cincinnati and Boston. She also did home visitation to the sick and elderly in North Providence and taught religious education. Later in life Sister Madeline was sent in mission to Nairobi, Africa, where her ministry was one of welcoming and hospitality. Returning to the United States, she was sent in mission to Waukegan, Ill., where she assisted in the Center for the Poor. In 2004 she was sent in mission to Trinity Community in Fruit Hill, North Province. She used her sewing skill to make goods for the annual bazaar and for the gift shop of the Franciscan Missionaries. She was active in the prayer group at St. Charles Borromeo in Providence. Her final years were spent in prayer for the Church and the world.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, May 16, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Wake Service at 7 p.m. in Holy Family Chapel, 399 Fruit Hill Ave., North Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Chapel will be celebrated Monday, May 17 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Holy Family Cemetery. Arrangements are by Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home.
Agnes O. Solina - Woonsocket
Agnes O. (Romblad) Solina, 96, a lifelong Fairmount resident, died Sunday, April 25, 2010, at The Friendly Home in Woonsocket.
She was the wife of the late John Solina and the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Karrs) Romblad. A homemaker, Mrs. Solina was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. She also had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Woonsocket, and volunteered many years for RSVP. She had enjoyed her memberships in the St. Mark, St. Louis, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs and Sacred Heart senior citizens organizations.
She leaves a daughter, Linda (Mike) Laflamme of Middleburg, Fla.; a brother, Chester Romblad of Warwick; four grandchildren, Tami (Tom) Amoroso of Rowley, Mass., Jonathan (Nancy) Richmond of Tolland, Conn., Dean (fiancé Carol Fox) Laflamme of Abilene, Texas, and Hally (Danny) Adams of Green Cove Springs, Fl.; and eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Alex and Tessa Amoroso, Matt, Corey and Kallie Richmond and Sydney and Bryce Adams. She was the mother of the late Joyce Richmond and the sister of the late Carl Romblad, Hazel Miskiavitch, Mildred Newlander and Viola Smith.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. in St. Mark Lutheran Church, Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, North Smithfield. Calling hours are omitted. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. Antoinette (Varieur) Tierney, 96, of One Mendon Rd. Cumberland, passed peacefully Tuesday December 2nd at the Steere House in Providence, with her loving family by her side.
Antoinette was the wife of the late Stephen J. Tierney Sr.
Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Wilfred and Mary V. (Larance) Varieur.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Cecile Lapham and her husband Donald of N. Attleboro, MA, Mary Kulick and her husband John, of Fort Meyers, FL,.A son, Stephen J. Tierney and his wife Karen of Cumberland. 9 grandchildren, Debra Pereira, Rachel Oakley, Susan Lapham, Cecile Xavier, Stephen J. Tierney III, Shawn Tierney, Kevin Tierney, Sabrina Chiang, and Shane Kulick, 16 great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Antoinette was the sister of the late Wilfred Varieur, Blanche Savaria, Beatrice Lawrence, Florence Donovan, and Rosalda Lemieux. She was grandmother of the late Jodie Lynn Kulick and great-grandmother of the late Dylan P. Lapham.
Her funeral will be held Saturday December 6th at 8:15am from the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave, Lincoln with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Jude Church, Front St, Lincoln at 9:30am. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends invited. Calling hours Friday 5-8pm.
