Alethea I. Williams - Scituate
Alethea I. (Harris) Williams, 94, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010.

She was born in Scituate July 9, 1915, and resided most of her life on Gleaner Chapel Road. She was married to the late Howard O. Williams for 66 years. Althea was the daughter of the late William M. and Bertha I. (Tucker) Williams and the sister of the late Melvin T. Harris.

Alethea leaves two daughters, Nancy (Mrs. George) Sayer of Sun City Center, Fla., and Martha-Jane Williams of Church Hill, Tenn. She also leaves four grandchildren, Deborah Arscott, Robert Sayer, Russell Sayer and Richard Sayer, as well as nine great-grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah, Laura, Jeffrey and Rebecca Arscott and Joshua, Jonathan, Matthew and Colleen Sayer; and several nieces and nephews.

For 23 years she enjoyed her work as a customer service representative at the Greenville office of Citizens Savings Bank, retiring in 1980. Her American Institute of Banking affiliations were many. She was a member of the Providence Chapter of District 1-New England and the National Women’s Committee chairman. She attended many national conventions as District 1’s associate councilman, traveling to various destinations in the United States. She enjoyed these trips because her husband was able to escort her on most of them.

She was a past president of the Scituate Republican Club and active in town affairs. She was a life member of Chepachet Grange; an incorporator and member of the Scituate Preservation Society; a member of the North Scituate Baptist Church; an associate member of the Foster Center Baptist Church; and a member of Queen of Sheba Chapter #10 OES.

Her funeral was held at the North Scituate Baptist Church May 4, 2010. Althea’s great-grandchildren were her pallbearers. Burial was in Acote’s Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. Arrangements were made by Winfield & Sons Funeral Home, 571 West Greenville Road, North Scituate, RI, 02857.

Alfred A. Dainef Jr. - Cumberland
Alfred A. Dainef Jr., 82, of Oak Hill Drive, Cumberland, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Briarcliffe Manor Nursing Home in Johnston.

He was the husband of Theresa A. (Boyer) Dainef. They were married July 3, 1948. Born in Woonsocket, he was son of the late Alfred A. and Rita (Viens) Dainef. He was raised in Woonsocket and resided in Cumberland for more than 45 years. Mr. Dainef served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees. Following his service, he was employed at the Stamina Mills, Atlantic Wool Combing and GAF in Franklin, Mass., before retiring. He enjoyed playing cards and golf.

In addition to his wife he leaves two sons, Douglas Dainef of North Smithfield and Paul Dainef of Cumberland; and three daughters, Sandra Doire and Louise Gilchrist, both of Cumberland, and Katherine Gilchrist of Pawtucket. He also leaves nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and his sister, Georgette Gardiner of Glendale.

Services and burial are private. Arrangements are by the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket.

Alice Elizabeth O’Reilly - Smithfield
Alice Elizabeth “Betty” (Rothwell) O’Reilly, 81, died April 26, 2010, at The Miriam Hospital.

She was the wife of the late George W. O’Reilly Sr. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Harry and Ann (Corbett) Rothwell. Alice was a librarian for the North Providence school system, the former co-owner of Twigs Florist and a homemaker for many years. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1970.

She leaves five children, Patricia A. Smith and her husband Michael of Smithfield, Ann M. St. Martin and her husband Marc of Ft. Myers, Fla., George W. O’Reilly Jr. and his wife Robin of Greenville, Kevin J. O’Reilly and his companion Laura of Providence, Mark K. O’Reilly of North Providence; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nora Romano and her husband Anthony.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Lawrence Church. Calling hours Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Burial is in Highland Memorial Park. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to St. Lawrence Church, 624 Woonasquatucket Ave., North Providence, RI 02911. Pallbearers will be James St. Martin, Michael Smith Jr., Andrew and Daniel O’Reilly, Michael Peloquin, Stephen Leboeuf and Andrew Cichon.

Arthur A. Pickering - North Providence
Arthur A. Pickering, 74, of Barrett Avenue, North Providence, died May 7, 2010, at his home.

He was the husband of Mary Ann (Kells) Pickering. They would have celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary May 11. A lifelong resident of North Providence, he was a son of the late James and Florrie (Sheargold) Pickering.

Arthur had attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst before being commissioned with the Food and Drug Administration. He worked with the Division of Agriculture and Marketing as a federal and state collaborator. He also served as a seed control official for the Northeast States Department of Agriculture. He also was a former employee of Our Lady of Fatima Hospital.

He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Roger Williams Lodge #32, and a lifelong member of the Roger Williams Baptist Church, serving as a deacon as well as serving on various boards and committees.

A world traveler, he visited most of Europe, South America, Asia, North Africa, Australia and New Zealand. He also was an avid hunter and fisherman in Alaska, Canada and much of the Northeast United States. He was a member of the Victory Sportsman’s Club, serving as treasurer. Since 1988, he had spent much of the summer season at his home in Morgan, Vt.

Besides his wife he leaves a brother, J. Gilbert Pickering of Scituate; a nephew Lester Ellis; great nieces Stacy, Mandie, Melissa and Courtney Ellis; and a great-great niece, Madison Turner. He was the brother of the late James Pickering and Doris Ellis. Also, his beloved dog, Sam, predeceased him.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Ave., North Providence, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. in Roger Williams Baptist Church, 224 Woodward Road. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home and Hospice Care of RI, or Roger Williams Church Hymnal Fund.

Audrey Edna Dutilly - Troy, Vt.
Audrey Edna Dutilly, 76, of Troy, Vt., died May 2, 2010, in Newport, Vt., with her family at her side.

She was born January 12, 1934, in Glocester, a daughter of the late Frank and Vera (Taft) Howard. On June 13, 1956 she married Gerard Dutilly who predeceased her in 1977. Mrs. Dutilly worked for Quill Pen Manufacturing in Cranston for many years. Among her hobbies she enjoyed gardening, sewing and making crafts. She is survived by her children, Charles Howard and his wife Sherrie of Derby, Vt., twins Paul Dutilly and his wife Cathy of Virginia and Beatrice Burke and her husband Patrick of Chepachet, John Dutilly and his wife Maria of Danielson, Conn., and Christine Schneider and her husband Timothy of Cranston; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and her faithful companion dog named Belle. A son, Edward Dutilly predeceased her in 2001.

Friends may call from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel, 37 Lake Road, Newport. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Acotes Cemetery in Chepachet.

Aurore M. Lapierre - Burrillville
Aurore M. (Plouffe) Lapierre, 83, of Douglas Pike, Burrillville, died Monday, April 26, 2010, at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield.

She was the wife of Noel A. Lapierre whom she married May 8, 1948. Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Amateur and Rosienne (Raymond) Plouffe. Mrs. Lapierre worked as a housekeeper for more than 20 years at St. Theresa's Church in Nasonville and St. Vincent De Paul in Coventry, retiring in the late 1980s. Previously she had worked in area textile mills. She was very active in St. Theresa's Church and it's CYO. Further, she was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and ran the Precious Blood Church Bingo in Woonsocket for many years.

Besides her husband she leaves four children, Leo Lapierre and his wife Simonne of North Smithfield and Jacqueline Dionne and her husband Richard, Victoria Tootell and her husband Donald and Edward Lapierre and his wife Sandra, all of Burrillville; two sisters, Rita Dupont of Lincoln and Cecile Longpre of Woonsocket; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Amateur Jr., Henry and Victoria Plouffe and Malvina Pincince.

Her funeral will be held Monday, May 3, 2010, at 9:45 a.m. from the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main Street, Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. St. Theresa's Church, Dion Street, Nasonville. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNS of Greater Rhode Island, Hospice Program, 6 Blackstone Valley Place, Suite 515, Lincoln, RI 02865, Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.

Barbara L. Adams - Scituate
Barbara L. (Boyle) Adams, 84, of North Scituate died Saturday, June 5, 2010.

Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Cora (Austin) Boyle. Mrs. Adams worked for the former Sueann Creations for 15 years before retiring in 1987. Barbara loved her flower gardens and the birds that enjoyed them. She also loved knitting for her great-grandchildren and was a member of Friends of Harmony.

She was the mother of Brenda L. Beauregard of North Scituate and the late Wayne Adams; the grandmother of Courtney Vescera; and the great-grandmother of three. She was the sister of Alyce Mack, Ralph and James Boyle and the late Shirley Thornton.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Route 44) Greenville. Visitation is from 12-1 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of Harmony Village, P.O. Box 120, Harmony, RI 02829 would be appreciated.

Beatrice L. Keene - Smithfield
Beatrice L. (Jeffrey) Keene, 97, of Log Road, Smithfield, died Sunday, May 30, 2010, at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence.

She was the wife of the late Henry W. Keene. Born in Seekonk, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Ernest W. and Grace C. (Peck) Jeffrey. Mrs. Keene was an assembler for Mine Safety Co. for many years then for the A.T. Cross Co. for 10 years before retiring in 1968. She was a former member of the Greenville Manor Association and the Primrose Grange. Mrs. Keene had been a Smithfield resident since 1932 and had lived at Hebert Nursing Center since September 2009. While there, she participated every day in all of the activities and loved the nurses and staff as much as they loved her.

She leaves her children, Brenda L. Wood of Bradford, Maine, Walter F. Keene of North Smithfield, Ernest F. Keene and David E. Keene, both of Smithfield, and the late George H. Keene. She also leaves 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Donald E. Jeffrey.

The funeral and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Charlotte B. Pomfret - Cumberland
Charlotte B. (Monroe) Pomfret, 84, a long time resident of Webster, Mass., passed on April 9, 2010, in Manhattan Beach, Calif., after a sudden illness, with her family by her side.

She was born May 8, 1925, in Cumberland, the daughter of the late Rosella (Vivier) Monroe and Charles Monroe. Her husband, John E. Pomfret, a brother, Daniel Monroe and two sisters, Lois Monroe and Rose Leeming, preceded her in death. She leaves her daughters, Pamela McManus of Manhattan Beach and Lisa Russo of San Angelo, Texas; three sons, John M. Pomfret of East Waterboro, Maine, Gregory Pomfret of Worcester, Mass., and Thomas H. Pomfret II of Poultney, Vt.; her sisters, Hazel Choppin, Claire Hoernig and Phyllis Mann; a brother, Harold Monroe; and six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was raised in Cumberland and raised her children in Mapleville where she was involved with the Jaycees, Ladies Auxiliary of the Oakland-Mapleville Fire Department and the Rhode Island Visiting District Nurses. She moved to Webster in the late 1960s. Her hobbies included cake decorating, making porcelain dolls, oil painting, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She enjoyed spending the winter months in California but her most enjoyed time was spent with the kids and maybe a good stiff drink!

There was a celebration of life Mass held at St. Agatha’s Church in Los Angeles, Calif., April 10, 2010. Friends and family are invited to attend another Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 16 East Main St., Webster, Mass., (parking lot is at the corner of Granite Street and Oak Street) Saturday May 8, 2010, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to help those in need.

Claire L. Couture - Cumberland
Claire L. Couture, 72, of Hamilton Street, Cumberland, died Friday, April 9 at The Miriam Hospital in Providence.

She was the beloved wife of Donald R. Couture. Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Eva (Bussiere) Beauvais. She resided in Cumberland for the past 34 years. She was a staff coordinator for the former Carties Health Center in Central Falls for more than 20 years.

Besides her husband she leaves four loving sons, Michael Couture of Las Vegas, Nev., David Couture of Lincoln, Alan Couture of Webster, N.Y., and Todd Couture of Ontario, N.Y.; two brothers, Rene Beauvais of Bristol and Ronald Beauvais of Roanoke, Texas; and a sister, Muriel Dufresne of Rumford. She also leaves twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Route 122, Cumberland, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Aidan Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
