Harriet E. (Richardson) Linekin, 88
Harriet Eleanor (Richardson) Linekin, 88, died April 28, 2007 at her home in San Diego, Calif. She was the wife of the late Everett F. Linekin.
She was born in Jamestown on May 26, 1918 to Aaron and Harriet (Chase) Richardson. She grew up in Jamestown and Newport where her father had a car dealership in Newport and her parents had a grocery store in Jamestown, as well as a livery and later a car dealership. She attended Jamestown school and Rogers High School in Newport.
She married Everett Linekin in 1939. They lived together in several towns on the East Coast while Everett was in the Navy. They settled in San Diego in 1952, where Everett retired from the Navy. Harriet worked for the San Diego Public Library in several of their branches before retiring. After retirement, she was well known for her quilts, and had entered them in different shows.
She is survived by five children, Paul (Wanda) Linekin, and Parker (Karyn) Linekin, of San Diego. Terry (Tom) Summers of Williston, Fla., Susan Hodges of Bellingham, Wash., and Michael (Mary) Linekin of St. Augustine, Fla., seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Richard, Gilbert, and Harold Richardson.
A Jamestown burial will be scheduled at a future date.
Mary D. Harris, 78
Mary D. Harris, 78, a longtime Glastonbury, Conn. resident, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Hartford Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond S. Harris, Jr. Born in Jamestown on May 1, 1928. She was the daughter of Charles and Mary (Murray) Dowling. She spent her professional career in the insurance industry.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Leslie H. and Dave Nabel of Wethersfield; three grandchildren, Michael Raymond of Newington, Conn.; Dan Nabel of Wethersfield, Conn.; and Brandon Ensign of Tucson, Ariz.; and a brother, John Dowling of Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Sandra Gray-Harris in 2003, and two sisters and a brother.
The funeral was held yesterday from the Glastonbury Funeral Home. The burial will be Saturday, May 5, in St. Mark Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Joseph F. Andrade, III, 73
Joseph F. Andrade, III, 73, of Lawn Avenue and West Palm Beach, Fla., died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Newport Hospital.
Born in Jamestown, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Mary M. (DeSoito) Andrade.
Mr. Andrade was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during Korea.
He worked for the Jamestown/ Newport Ferry until it closed. He then worked for the Newport and Mt. Hope Bridges before retiring 10 years ago. Mr. Andrade was a member of the Newport Elks Lodge, the Holy Ghost Beneficial Brotherhood in East Providence, the Holy Ghost Society in Jamestown, the American Legion in Jamestown and the Newport branch of the Fleet Reserve. He was a member of the Eagles and the Loyal Order of the Moose in West Palm Beach. He was a communicant of St. Mark Church.
He was the father of Joseph F. Andrade, IV of Jamestown and the late Brian E. Andrade. He is also survived by two aunts, Josephine Reis and Virginia Deterra both of Jamestown.
His Funeral was held yesterday at the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at St. Mark Church. Burial was in St. Mark Cemetery.
Esther C. Fantoli, 81
Esther C. Fantoli, 81, of Jamestown died Monday, April 30, 2007. She was the wife of the late Robert Fantoli.
Born in Stafford Springs, Conn., she was a daughter of the late Victor and Josephine (Geovanas) Tonidandel. She was a communicant of St. Mark Church, a member of the Jamestown Senior Center, and a volunteer at a soup kitchen in Newport. She taught knitting and sewing to many people and sewed gowns for premature infants for the organization Threads of Love.
She is survived by three sons, John Fantoli, and his wife, Joyce, of Jamestown, James Fantoli of Ashford, Conn., and Richard Fantoli and his wife, June, of Kennebunk, Maine; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Leo Tonidandel and two sisters, Norma Basset and Ada Tonidandel.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 4, at St. Mark Church. Calling hours in Connecticut will be on Saturday, May 5, from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Stafford Springs, Conn. Burial will follow in St. Edward's Cemetery, Stafford Springs.

Eleanor Tyler
Eleanor Beede Tyler died Thursday, May 3, 2007.
Eleanor grew up in Jamestown, and although she resided in Cincinnati for over 50 years, she spent a good deal of time at her house on Arnold Street on the shore of the West Passage.
She is survived by her children, Lucinda G. Tyler of Indianapolis and David B. Tyler of Cincinnati, and her brother Herbert Beede.

Ernest Mason, 83
Ernest A. Mason, 83, of Lugger Street, died May 3, 2007 at South County Nursing Center in North Kingstown. He was the husband of Nancy Mason.
He is survived by Rosalind V. Mason of Redhill, London, England, and was the step-father of Robert Bailey of Jamestown, Bonnie Waddicor of Portsmouth, and William Bailey of Rochester, N.H. He had six grandchildren.
His remains have been donated to Brown University Medical School. There will be no memorial service.

Linda L. Gray, 57
Linda L. (Sherman) Gray, 57, of Buckwheat Ave., Portsmouth, died Friday, May 11, 2007 at home.
She was the wife of Kenneth S. Gray, Tax Assessor of Jamestown, to whom she was married for 36 years. She had previously resided in Somerset, Mass., and also in Newport.
Born in Fall River, Mass., she was the daughter of Celia (Babiarz) Sherman of Fall River and the late Frederick Sherman.
Mrs. Gray was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School with the class of 1967. She had also graduated from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing.
A registered nurse, she had most recently worked at the Newport County Community Mental Health Center of Middletown.
She was the co-owner of the former Gray's Office Center in Fall River. She also served on the Board of Management Committee and was a Member of the Bellevue Square Condominium Association in Newport.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a son, Bryan M. Gray and his wife Kim (Cicchetti) Gray of Fall River, Mass., two daughters Alicia K. Gray of Newport, and Heather L. Herren and her husband Chris Herren of Portsmouth. She was the grandmother of Christopher Gray Herren, Samantha Gray Herren and Cameron Gray. She also leaves two brothers, Lawrence Sherman and his wife Marie Sherman of Somerset, Mass., Lloyd "Skip" Sherman of Fall River and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Leonard Sherman.
The funeral was held Tuesday with a Mass at St. Stanislaus Church in Fall River. Burial was private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice at the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties at 1184 East Main Rd, Portsmouth, RI 02871.
Michelle L. Silva, 39
Michelle L. Silva, 39, of North Kingstown, formerly of Acushnet and Dartmouth, Mass. died at home surrounded by her family and friends May 13, 2007 after a long battle with cancer.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of Rita Parr of North Kingstown, and Robert P. Silva of New Bedford.
Michelle is survived by her parents, maternal grandmother Ruth Parr of South Dartmouth, brother Michael Silva, sister-in-law Jill Silva, nephew Morgan Park Silva all of East Sandwich, sister Sharyn Adams, brother-in-law Michael Adams and niece Holly Michelle Adams all of Marshfield. She also leaves behind her loving companion Neil Gaudreau of Jamestown, godchild Lauren Michelle Haskins of Groton, Conn., numerous aunts and uncles including John and Barbara Garcia of North Dartmouth and many friends including John and Christine Tavares of Acushnet.

The funeral will be held Friday, May 18, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 783 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth. Burial will be private.
Virginia A. McGregor, 77
Virginia A. McGregor, 77, of Schooner Avenue, died Friday, May 18, 2007. She was the wife of the late Donald McGregor.
Born in Wakefield, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Lola (Briggs) Curtis. Mrs. Mc- Gregor was a dietitian for Miriam Hospital for many years before retiring. She leaves her daughter Peggy Burse and her husband Alan of Jamestown; brothers, Robert Curtis of Florida and Benjamin Curtis Jr. of Narragansett; and grandson, Ashton Dana Burse of Jamestown. She was the mother of the late Andrew McGregor.
The funeral service was held yesterday at Central Baptist Church.

Robert "Red" Moser, 80
Robert deLancey "Red" Moser, 80, of the Rockhill Mennonite Community, Sellersville, Pa. and formerly of Hagerstown, Md. and St. Louis, Mo., passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007.
He was the husband of the late Ethel "Beth" (Gamble) Moser, who passed away in 1992.
Born and raised in St. Louis, he was the son of the late J. Edgar Moser and Marie (deLancey) Floyd-Jones Moser Everitt. He enjoyed spending his summers in Jamestown.
He graduated from Country Day School, St. Louis in 1944. He served with the U.S. Marines stationed on Guam during World War II. After his military service, he graduated from Brown University in Providence.
Red was employed as a contract administrator for Fairchild Hiller, in Hagerstown, Md. for many years.
He was most known for his great love of people, his positive spirit, his passion for education and most of all his insatiable love of laughter. He amused and delighted his grandchildren with his great sense of humor. He shared many fun-filled moments with them and his spirit will surely live on through them.
He is survived by two sons, Dr. Robert D. Moser and his wife Sylvia, of Austin, Texas and John M. Moser and his wife Susan, of Perkasie, Pa.; a daughter, Dr. Margaret G. Moser and her companion Jody, of Vancouver, B.C.; six grandchildren, Joseph, Daniel, Jacob, Katelyn, Nicholas and Nina; two brothers, J. Edgar Moser and his wife Esther, of Gulf Shores, Ala. and William A. "Peter" Moser and his wife Caroline, of St. Louis; three sisters, Elizabeth Wolfe and her husband John, of St. Louis, Emily Sharpe and her husband William, of Newport and DeLancey Converse of Jamestown, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister Ann Floyd Mitchell.
Memorial services will be held in St. Louis, Mo. at a later time.

John Chasse, 76
John Chasse, 76, of Casa Grande, Ariz. and Jamestown, died April 16, 2007 at home in Casa Grande. He was the husband of Dorothy (Doorley) Chasse for 52 years.
Born in West Warwick, he was the son of John and Laura (DeLobbe) Chasse.
A retired teamster, he worked for Ardley Express and Yellow Freight.
He enjoyed the ocean, boating and camping at Ft. Getty in Jamestown. He was an excellent cook and a food critic.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters Linda Chasse and Carol (Checker) Chasse of Jamestown, his son John and wife Linda of Lyndonville, Vt., and four granddaughters, Lauren Champagne, Sarah Chasse, Elizabeth Chasse and Kathleen Champagne. He was the grandfather of the late Danielle Champagne.
He was the brother of Sister Georgette (Jeannine) Chasse RSM of Pawtucket, George Chasse and Raymond Chasse of Arizona, Laurette Lisi, of North Providence and Robert Chasse of Greenville. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, at St. Mark Church. A reception will follow at the Portuguese American Citizens' Club, 138 Narragansett Ave, Jamestown.

Geraldine Cleveland, 87
Geraldine "Gerry" Cleveland, 87, died at her home in Carlisle, Mass., on Friday, June 8, 2007. She was the wife of the late Blair Cleveland (Cdr., USN) and of Everett Alward, who died in air combat during World War II. She was a summer resident of Jamestown.
Born in Newport, Rhode Island, Mrs. Cleveland was the daughter of Commander Owen Bartlett, USN, of Annapolis, Md., and Betty Mildred Barker (Betty M. Bartlett Nevin) of Cheshire, England. Having served as governor of Guam during World War I, Commander Bartlett moved his young family in 1922 to Hawaii, where the young Geraldine grew up, attending the Punahou School, from which she graduated in 1938. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, Geraldine declined to be evacuated with her family, instead she remained in Honolulu to marry her first husband, Everett Alward, a USMC pilot and USNA graduate who was subsequently shot down over the Sea of Japan. Widowed at age 22, Geraldine returned to Jamestown to join her parents and raise her young son, Everett Junior.
Following the war, and while living in Jamestown, Mrs. Cleveland met and married Blair Cleveland, of Concord, Mass., then a Lt. Cmdr. in the Navy, with whom she had three more children.
She is survived by her son Douglas Cleveland and his wife Sara, of McLean and Charlottesville, Va., and her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Peter Gifford, of Concord, Mass. She was the mother of Bradford Cleveland, and Everett Owen "Laddie" Alward.
All of her life, Mrs. Cleveland was a lover of nature, and she always delighted in and treasured especially the little things that might be found in one's own garden. In Jamestown and in Carlisle, Gerry loved and nurtured both her gardens and the creatures that inhabited them. She enjoyed for many years her association with both the Jamestown Garden Club and the Seeds and Weeds Garden Club of Concord. An avid walker, Mrs. Cleveland was also a landscape watercolorist, maintaining artist memberships with the Concord Art Association and the Jamestown Arts and Crafts Association.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, her children request that gifts may be made to The Humane Society, The Nature Conservancy, or to Partners' Hospice. Funeral services will be private.
Elmer Bicknell
Elmer "Bunky-Spider" Bicknell, died Dec. 11, 2006 in Florida. He was the husband of Sheila (Jackson) Bicknell.
He is survived by daughters Linda Schave and Beth Gillam; sons Ted, William and Scott Bicknell.
The funeral will be June 14, at 9:30 a.m., at the Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick. Burial will be with military honors at the R. I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter at 10:30 a.m. Donations can be made to the Shriners Burns Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
