Captain Forrest A. Pease, USN (Ret.)
Captain Forrest “Buster” A. Pease, USN (Ret.), 91, of Jamestown, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006 at home. He was the husband of Margaret (Hall) Pease with whom he celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.
He was born April 10, 1915 at Opportunity Farm in New Gloucester, Maine, to Fred Forrest and Alwilda Hatt Pease. His family resettled in the South Shore area in the early 1920s. He graduated from Quincy High School, Quincy, Mass., in 1933, and from Brown University in 1937, and was a member of the Brown football and wrestling teams.
He entered the Navy in 1939 and was designated a naval aviator at Pensacola, Fla., in 1940. He started out flying seaplane patrol bomber missions and then antisubmarine carrier-based aircraft. Capt. Pease was one of the pioneers
of early airborne antisubmarine
warfare tactics and was in the first Navy atomic weapon carrying aircraft squadron.
Toward the end of the war, he met his future wife Specialist (S) First Class Margaret Hall, while they were both stationed in Washington, D.C.
Capt. Pease had a 31-year career as a naval officer. During his tour of duty aboard the U.S.S. Lake Champlain he welcomed Alan B. Shepard back to earth after the historic first manned space flight in May of 1961. Later, as the commanding officer of South Weymouth Naval Air Station, he made news around the globe when he fell off of the high diving board in full uniform during the ribbon cutting ceremony of the swimming pool that he had designed.
Capt. Pease was stationed at Quonset Point as chief of staff for Commander Fleet Air Quonset, then went on to Yokosuka, Japan, as chief of staff for Commander Naval Forces Japan. His last tour of duty was in New York City as chief of staff for Commander Eastern Sea Frontier.
He retired from the Navy in 1971 and settled in Jamestown in 1975, moving into the same house where he and his family lived in the early 1960s.
Capt. Pease enrolled in the fisheries program at the University of Rhode Island, where he received the Associate in Science degree in 1978.
An avid sailor since his youth on Massachusetts Bay, he enjoyed one-design racing as well as cruising the New England coast and was a member of the New York Yacht Club since 1965.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Fred Forrest Pease, Susan Pease Nicholson and Barbara Pease Renner; three grandchildren: Justin Guy Ballou IV, Sarah Jane Pease and Nathaniel Lovett Pease; a sister, Laurel P. Oliver of Florida; and eight great grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Karen P. Ballou.
Memorial contributions can be made to Opportunity Farm, P.O. Box 65, New Gloucester, Maine 04260, a residential school for at-risk youth founded by his father in 1910.
Private funeral arrangements are in the care of Waring-Sullivan Homes of Memorial Tribute.
Margaret A. Belloni
Margaret A. Belloni, formerly of 60 Mt. Hope Avenue, Jamestown, died Wednesday Dec. 20, 2006 in Chicago, Ill, after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Victor L. Belloni.
Although Peggy spent her last three years in Chicago, her heart was always in Jamestown. She was a parishioner of St. Mark Church.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006 at St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. Burial was held in the St Mark Cemetery, Jamestown.
Katherine A. Searle
Katherine A. (Florio) Searle, 79, of Bayview Drive, died Dec. 11, 2006 at the Miriam Hospital in Providence. She was the beloved
wife of Herbert V. Searle for 59 years.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Giuseppe and Brigida (Desessa) Florio.
Mrs. Searle was a personnel director for the Paramount Greeting Card Company and the owner of Kay’s Coffee & More in Lincoln before retiring. She served as president of the North Providence BPW and enjoyed sewing. She was a communicant of St. Mark Church.
Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Donald E. Searle of Knoxville, Tenn., Steven J. Searle in Japan, and Gary M. Searle of Norfolk, Mass.; and a sister, Concetta Morenzi of Cranston. She was the sister of the late Frank, Anthony and Pasquale Florio.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday and burial was in St. Mark Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the American Heart Assn., 222 Richmond St., Providence, RI 02903, will be appreciated.
William S. Caswell, 81
William S. Caswell, Jr., 81 of Micco, Fla., died Dec. 14, 2006 at the Sebastian River Medical Center, in Sebastian, Fla.
Mr. Caswell was born April 21, 1925 in New Bedford, Mass., and was a resident of Micco for 15 years, having moved there from Jamestown.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV, and U.S. Navy Honor Guard in Jamestown. He served in the Navy during WWII.
Mr. Caswell is survived by his wife, Roberta; his children,
Donald W. Caswell of Jamestown, David M. Caswell of Vero Beach, Fla., William C. Caswell of Jamestown, Denise M. Hall of Middletown, Michael J. Caswell of Kingstown, Andrew H. Caswell of Johnston, and Debra J. Caswell of Portsmouth; his sister, Gladys McBeth of Old Saybrook, Conn.; his brother, Fred Caswell of Middletown, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in Rhode Island at a later date.
Bruce E. Engelhard, 52
Bruce Edward Engelhard, 52, of Jamestown died quietly at home Dec. 18, 2006 surrounded by family after a two and a half year battle with colon cancer. He was the beloved husband of Missy (Mary L. Wright) Engelhard for 29 years.
Born in Groton, Mass., a son of Donald G. and Jane (Peregrine) Engelhard of Cincinnati, Ohio, he grew up in Park Ridge, Ill., and Cincinnati, Ohio.
He received a bachelor’s degree in math from Ohio Wesleyan University, a MAT from Gordon- Conwell Theological Seminary, and a MAT in math education from Providence College.
Bruce was a math teacher in the Jamestown School for nine years and previously taught at the Newport Alternative School, Carachipampa Christian School in Cochabamaba, Bolivia, Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, W. Va., and Milford High School in Milford, Ohio.
Bruce was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Jamestown, where he was on a number of boards over the years and was integrally involved in the musical life of the church. He was involved in the Jamestown Community Theatre, the Jamestown Community Band, and the CBC Players. Bruce was a member of NCTM and RIMTA.
Besides his wife and parents, he leaves three sons, Seth P. Engelhard and his wife Coley E. Lehman of Portland, Ore., David C. Engelhard of Minneapolis, Minn., and Chris W. Engelhard of Jamestown; a daughter, Ruth (Engelhard) Burke and her husband Chris E. Burke of North Kingstown; siblings, Kathy Coates, David Engelhard, and Sally Reinders, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; many inlaws, nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

John A. Adamowicz, 84, of Reservoir Circle, affectionately known as A to Z, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006 at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary G. (Wendelowski) Adamowicz.

Walter D. Williams II, 84, of Hamilton Avenue died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 at Village House in Newport. He was the husband of the late Grace M. (Nobile) Williams for 31 years.

Yeaton Duval Outerbridge, 79, a longtime summer resident of Hawthorne Road, Jamestown, died in Bermuda on Jan. 31, 2006 of pancreatic cancer. He was the husband of Betsey Coste Outerbridge.
Daniel E. Lilly Sr., 65
Daniel E. Lilly Sr., 65, of Seaside Drive, died Aug. 3, 2006 at his home. He was the loving husband of Jean (Brennan) Lilly and proud grandfather of Rian Brennan Hines.
Mr. Lilly graduated from Hope High School and Providence College. He worked for Del Monte foods for many years. A retired U. S. Air Force Reserve lieutenant colonel, he served as the director of logistics for the Rhode Island Air National Guard's 282nd Combat Communications Group in Coventry, and later served as an Air Force Reserve logistics augmentee to the U.S. Naval War College. In recent years, he held a variety of logistics posts as an individual mobilization augmentee in support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's response to disasters in Guam, Florida, Louisiana, and New Hampshire.
He was a member of the Jamestown Shores Association and the Fort Wetherill Boat Owners' Association. He was a past member of the Jamestown Harbor Management Commission. He was an active volunteer with Jamestown Emergency Medical Services and a daily communicant at Saint Mark Church. All who knew him will miss him.
He enjoyed restoring vintage jeeps, with his friends the Jamestown Jeep Jockeys. He enjoyed boating, and lobstering. Mr. Lilly was caring and kindhearted, willing to help others in any way he could. Among other things, he spent many snowy days in his jeep plowing out friends and neighbors, earning him the title of Snow Ranger.
Mr. Lilly was the son of the late Mr. William E. Lilly and Elizabeth A. (Kearns) Lilly.
In addition to his wife and grandson, he is survived by a daughter, Tricia Hines and her husband Paul; a son, Daniel E. Lilly Jr. and his wife Jean T., all of Jamestown; and a twin sister, Patricia A. Connelly of Oak Bluffs, Mass.

Emily Winthrop Roberts, 51
Emily Winthrop Roberts, 51, recently of Jamestown died May 4, 2006 of heart failure in Belize, Central America.
She is survived by her mother, Adelaide Comstock Roberts of Washington Depot, Conn.; brother R. Brooke Roberts of Newport; and sister Alexandra Baylies of Gaston, S. C.
Emily was for many years a devoted stepmother to Sarah and Benjamin DeLeiris.
It was in Belize that Emily was able to put into practice her love of art and teaching, and her desire to be of service to others. She loved the village of Monkey River, especially her students, and found much happiness there. She spoke of how she enjoyed its natural beauty, especially swimming in the warm water and dancing barefoot in the sand.
The Anglican Bishop of Belize led a service of prayer and remembrance in Belize City, to celebrate Emily's life. A memorial service is being planned for this summer on Great Cranberry Island in Maine, where Emily lived.
Locally, there will be a memorial service for Emily at St. Columba's Chapel on Vaucluse Ave. in Middletown at 2 p.m. this Saturday, May 20.
Friends and family are invited to gather at the parish hall after the service.
