Carol Ann Fessenden
Portsmouth, RI - Carol Ann (Amaral) Fessenden, 62, of 249 West Main Road, Portsmouth, passed away quietly at her home with her family on Sunday, August 28, 2005 after a brief illness.
She was the wife of Steven Fessenden.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on September 21, 1942, she was the daughter of the late James and Lucille (Vieira) Amaral.
Mrs. Fessenden was assistant manager at Walmart for the past six years and was a lifelong Portsmouth resident.
Besides her husband she is survived by her children Richard Lee Gill of Sulphur, LA, Christine L. Gill of Portsmouth, RI, and Victoria A. Kenna of Warren, RI, her brother Richard Amaral of Portsmouth, RI, and her grandchildren Nicole Micucci of Portsmouth, RI, Heather Gill and Amber Gill both of Sulphur, LA, Audrey Kenna and Mitchell Kenna both of Warren, RI.
She was the sister of the late Celeste Kensmoe.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2005, at 11:00AM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Rte. 114, Portsmouth, RI.
Burial will take place in Portsmouth Cemetery, Turnpike Avenue, Portsmouth.

Pickett Magruder Greig
JAMESTOWN, RI - Pickett Magruder Greig, 85, of 6200 Oregon Avenue NW, Washington, DC and 21 Bayview Drive, Jamestown, RI, died Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.
He was the husband of Betty Carter Fort Greig of Washington, D.C. and the late Martha Wylly Appleton Greig.
Born in Newport, RI on October 23, 1919, he was the son of the late Capt. Stuart Osmond Greig, USN and Adele Magruder Greig. He was the grandson of the late Admiral Thomas Pickett Magruder.
Mr. Greig attended St. Alban’s School in Washington, DC. He graduated from St. George´s School in Middletown, RI, the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia Law School. Mr. Greig practiced law in Newport. He worked for 20 years in the Commonwealth Land Title Office in Providence, RI, retiring in 1983. Throughout his life he was an active member of the Jamestown community. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Society of Colonial Wars, the Conanicut Yacht Club, the Chevy Chase Club in Chevy Chase, MD, and the Pilgrims of St. Mary´s in Maryland. He loved his home on the bay in Jamestown where he spent his summers.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children David Ely Cain of Fayston, VT, Thomas P.M. Greig of Jamestown, RI, Nancy Cain Haynes of Sag Harbor, NY, Elizabeth A. Hyman of Saunderstown, RI, and Louisa Greig-Bisbing of Camas, WA, eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was the brother of the late Adele Richardson and the late Elizabeth Lund.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2005, at 10:00 AM in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown.
Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery in Jamestown.

Brian Keith Barlow
NEWPORT, RI - Brian Keith Barlow, 36, of 33 Chapel Terrace, Newport, RI, formerly of Peckham Ave, Newport, died Saturday, August 27, 2005 at home.
Born in Providence, RI, on August 26, 1969, he was the son of Chester Barlow of Bristol, RI and Marie (Cortellessa) Barlow Johnson of Newport, RI.
Brian worked as a roofer with Manchester Roofing Company of Newport. Brian was also an avid fisherman.
Besides his parents he is survived by his companion, Dorothy Stedford of Newport, RI, his stepfather Sherwood Johnson of Newport, RI, his grandmother Mary Cortellessa of Newport, RI, his brother Peter Cortellessa of Naples, FL, and his sister Laurie Rodericks of Newport, RI.
Mr. Barlow was preceded in death by his grandfather James Cortellessa.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at 11:00 am in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
Burial will be in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.

Sherryanne Smith
PORTSMOUTH, RI - Sherryanne Smith, 51, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2005 at Women & Infants Hospital in Providence, RI, after a long illness. Mrs. Smith lived at 97 Botelho Drive in Portsmouth, RI.
She was the wife of Gordon Johnson.
Born in Newport, RI on June 12, 1954, she was the daughter of Irene (Fayerweather) Smith Little and the late Earl Smith.
Mrs. Smith was the loving mother of two sons, Eugene Scott Smith and Geoffrey Allen Smith, both of Portsmouth, RI.
She was active both in business and in the local community. She held a position as Business Manager at Anteon Corporation in Middletown, RI for five years, after its acquisition of Integrated Performance Decisions. At IPD, she was Senior Financial Analyst and Facilities Security Officer for fifteen years.
She was formerly the Secretary for the Rec Reunion Committee and was a cornerstone in the planning and execution of its many fundraising activities. She was also a volunteer at the Park Holm Boys and Girls Club and at the Newport Housing Hotline.
Mrs. Smith is survived by five grandsons: Scott Eugene Smith, Jalen Marquis Ardrey, Shaquille Malik Ardrey, Javen Eugene Smith and Jacoby Moore, all of Aquidneck Island. Her granddaughters Andrea George of Lanham, MD, Mya Scott Smith of Newport, RI and Jasmine Moore of Middletown, RI.
She is also survived by brothers Earl Smith, Jr., of East Providence, RI, Alan Smith and Rodney Smith both of Providence, RI, and Jaimy Stone of Florida. Her sisters are Deborah Maxwell of Jacksonville, FL, Ethel M. Long of Columbus, GA, Loretta Cooper of Richmond, VA, Patricia Smith of Providence, RI, and Jacqueline Little of Coventry, RI.
She is preceded in death by her stepfather, Walter Little, JR. and her brother James V. Smith.
Mrs. Smith is also survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews and other family.
Sherryanne Smith was a dear and generous woman of exceptional courage and integrity who will be vastly missed by all who had the great fortune to know her.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2005, at 1:00PM in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.

Margaret G. Smith
NEWPORT, RI - Margaret G. (Toppins) Smith, 79, of 66 Girard Avenue, Newport, RI died Sunday, August 28, 2005 at home.
She was the wife of the late Earl D. Smith.
Born in New Holland, NC on March 26, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Maggie (Patterson) Toppins.
Mrs. Smith worked for Bill Del-Nero Cleaners as a presser. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Ladies Auxillary, the Newport Elks Lodge and the Community Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son Mark Smith of New Orleans, LA, her siblings Larry Toppins of Newport, RI, Raymond Toppins of New Church, VA, Mary Clark of Jamaica, NY, and Sara Williams of Baltimore, MD, her granddaughter Kimberly Smith of Baton Rouge, LA, and her great grandson Giovanni Marcus Smith of Baton Rouge, LA.
She was the sister of the late Edwin Toppins and Bernie Toppins.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2005, at 11:00 AM in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard, Newport.

Dorothy Marie (Silvia) Silveira
PORTSMOUTH, RI - Dorothy Marie (Silvia) Silveira, 83, of 15 Reise Terrace, Portsmouth, RI, died Thursday, September 22, 2005 at home.
She was the wife of Francis Joseph Silveira.
Born in Portsmouth, RI on Oct. 24, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Cory) Silvia.
Mrs. Silveira worked as a part-time clerk at the former Carrellas Pharmacy on Thames Street in the late 1940´s and early 1950´s. She then worked as a clerk at the Newport Quality Bakery until 1960 before becoming a homemaker. Mrs. Silveira was very family oriented and loved cooking, especially for her family. She was an active member of the Patrons of Husbandry and held an office in the Portsmouth Grange, the Newport County Pomona Grange, The Rhode Island State Grange, and served as a delegate to The National Grange. She cooked for and participated in the Portsmnouth Grange Suppers for many years. Mrs. Silveira was a communicant of St. Anthony´s Church where she also helped cook for the St. Anthony´s Feast.
Besides her husband of 58 years, she is survived by a son, Joseph Lopes of Portsmouth, RI, a daughter, Sharon Costa of Tiverton, RI, two brothers, Richard Silvia of Newport, RI, and Douglas Silvia of Portsmouth, RI, two sisters, Jean Ramsey of Morehead City, NC, and Allene Reynolds of Newport, RI, several nieces and nephews, 7 grandchildren, Laurie Goyette of Portsmouth, RI, Susan Ring of Middletown, RI, Frank Lopes of Newport, RI, Michael Lopes of Warren, RI, Amy Jo Lopes of Warren, RI, Melissa Murphy of Fall River, MA, Kerri Murphy of Bristol, RI, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Her funeral will be held Monday, September 26, 2005, at 9:00am from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Anthony's Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, at 10:00am, Burial will be in St. Columba's Cemetery in Middletown.

Cornelia Valentine Murphy, 40
Cornelia Valentine Murphy, 40, died May 13, 2006 after a courageous battle with advanced ovarian cancer.
Born June 29, 1965, in Washington, D.C., Ms. Murphy was a beautiful and loving, outgoing woman with an infectious laugh, dedicated to her work and her family and always ready to offer a smile and words of encouragement to those around her.
Raised in Jamestown, Cornelia gradated from the Prout School in 1987.
Most recently Cornelia lived in Portland, Ore., and San Jose, Calif. Ms. Murphy earned her bachelor's degree in political science from California State, Northridge, and had a successful career in politics, following in the footsteps of her father, who worked over 20 years for the Congressional Research Service and as a speechwriter for then Speaker of the House Carl Albert.
Cornelia worked for elected officials on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and Iowa, and on presidential and local campaigns. Since 1999, Ms. Murphy served the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Labor Union as the Oregon political campaign manager.
Ms. Murphy is survived by her father, Cornelius F. Murphy Jr.; her brothers, Jeremiah and Paul J. Murphy; her sister-in-law, Jodi Lindenthal; and nephews, Harry and Gus Murphy.
Ms. Murphy was the daughter of the late Muriel Valentine Murphy. She was the niece of the late Harriet Valentine Gelfuso, and the granddaughter of the late Harry and Muriel Valentine and Cornelius F. Murphy and Mary Ellen Brady Murphy. Ms. Murphy also leaves behind many cousins and dear friends in Rhode Island and across the United States.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., in Jamestown on Friday, July 7, at 11 a.m., to be followed by a reception at the Portuguese American Citizens' Club.
Georgena Wetherill Stanger, 91
Georgena Wetherill Stanger, 91, of 64 Bayview Drive, died Sunday, Aug.13, at home, after a short illness. She was the wife of the late John Hallowell Stanger.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., on July 14, 1915, she was the daughter of Webster King Wetherill and Georgena Vaux Cresson.
She was a member of the Conanicut Yacht Club of Jamestown, the Jamestown Garden Club, and St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Jamestown.
She was a member of the Acorn Club of Philadelphia, the Free Quaker Society of Philadelphia, the Merion Cricket Club, the National Society of Colonial Dames, and the Hillsboro Club of Pompano Beach, Fla. She was a former member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Wayne Pa.
She was a 1934 graduate of Agnes Irwin School, Rosemont, Pa.
Mrs. Stanger is survived by two daughters, Susan S. Mitchell and Jean H. Stanger, and two grandchilren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Jamestown.
Burial will be in St. David's Episcopal Churchyard, on Saturday, Aug. 26, at 10 a.m.

Olive E. Guiney, 90
Olive E. Guiney, 90, formerly of East Shore Road, died Aug. 10, 2006 at Roberts Health Centre in North Kingstown. She was the wife of the late David D. Guiney.
Born in Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of Philias J. LaPlante and Edith (Thibodeau) LaPlante. She was an administrative assistant for the city of Worcester for many years before retiring in 1983, when she moved to Jamestown.
Mrs. Guiney was a communicant of St. Mark Church in Jamestown, and was active in various Jamestown civic organizations, including volunteering at St. Matthew's Thrift Shop, serving as a dispatcher for Jamestown's elderly transportation
service, and participating in the Friends of the Jamestown Library.
While living in Worcester, she was a writer of feature articles and a food column for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and continued her journalistic endeavors in Jamestown by contributing articles to the Jamestown Press.
She leaves a son, David K. Guiney, of New Westminster, British Columbia, a daughter, Joan G. Engel, of West Hartford, Conn., and two grandchildren, Miriam and Albert Engel.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at St. Mark Church in Jamestown.
