Charles Emerson Perry
MIDDLETOWN, RI - Charles Emerson Perry, 90, of 230 Turner Road, Middletown, RI, formerly of Newport, RI, and Boston, MA, died Thursday, October 13, 2005, at the Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI.
He was the husband of Jean (Harrison) Perry.
Born in Boston, MA, on August 19, 1915, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Nora (Ross) Perry.
Mr. Perry had worked as a mechanic at the George Harrison Ford Dealership for 25 years, retiring in 1977. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII.
Besides his wife of forty years, he is survived by three sons Richard Perry of Milton, FL, Arthur E. Perry of Newport, RI, and William T. Perry of Brockton, MA, a step son B. Vernon Graham III of Providence, RI, two daughters Joan P. Robinson of Middletown, RI, and Ann P. Chesser of Washington, PA, a step daughter Pamela E.G. Watson of Alma, GA, a brother Ralph W. Perry of Middletown, RI, a sister Helen P. Fahy of PA, twenty three grandchildren, two step grandsons, twenty great grandchildren, two step great granddaughters, and four great great grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Robert M. Perry, and the brother of the late Arthur E. Perry and Henry G. Perry.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at 10:00AM, in Middletown Cemetery, corner of Turner and Wyatt Roads, Middletown.

Lillian May Judge
NEWPORT, RI - Lillian (May) Judge, 94, of Middletown, formerly of Bayside Village, Newport, RI, and Wallingford, Ct, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown, RI.
She was the wife of the late Malcolm Judge.
Born in Fall River, MA on February 28, 1911, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence (Roe) May.
Mrs. Judge was a homemaker who had worked as an assembler at the former Monowatt Plant of General Electric in Newport. She was a communicant of St. Lucy´s Church in Middletown.
She is survived by her daughters Marcia Wilkins of Pemberton Township, NJ, and Barbara Cross of Leesburg, FL, her sisters Mary O'Connor of Fall River, MA, and Rita Smith of Newport, RI, her six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister Florence Parker.
Her funeral will be held on Monday October 17, 2005 at 8:00 from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 in St. Lucy's Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown.
Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown.

Sarah Rego
MIDDLETOWN, RI - Sarah Rego, 93, of Middletown, RI, formerly of 167 Bliss Road, Middletown, RI, died Thursday, October 13, 2005, at the Grand Islander Health Care Center, Green End Ave, Middletown, RI.
Born in Middletown, RI, on March 8, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Victoria (Cordeiro) Rego.
Ms. Rego was a private duty governess for all of her life for a family in Washington, DC and Newport.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her siblings Manuel Rego, Ruy Rego, Mary Rego, Antoinette Silvia, and Angeline Cardoza.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, October 17, 2005, at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00am in Jesus Saviour Church, Broadway And Vernon Avenue, Newport.
Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
Bessie (Vasiliki) Mellekas
Bessie (Vasiliki) Mellekas, wife of the late Stavros, died at the age of 101, Saturday, October 15, 2005, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI, surrounded by her family.
Born in Moria, Mytelinis, Greece, on January 1, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Maria (Koukoutas) Mootos (Wotoglos).
Bessie was born during the time of the Turkish Occupation of Mytelinis and the Balkan War which freed the island in 1912. She immigrated to America in 1922 with her mother and brotherJames, who died at the age of 21. They joined her brothers Peter and Paul who preceeded them, and lived in Stoughton, MA. She worked as an embroiderer in a factory in Stoughton, MA. Shortly after, Vasiliki was introduced to Stavros and were married in 1923 and lived happily for 45 years raising four children.
Vasiliki had the honor of being the oldest member of St. Spyridon´s Church, as well as the oldest Greek Orthodox woman in Newport, RI. One of the original charter members of the St. Spyridon´s Philoptochos, Vasiliki, Past President, spent countless hours preparing for the annual bazar, knitting and crocheting many hand-crafted novelties.
Vasiliki’s talents were instrumental in raising funds for the charitable endeavors of the organization. She continued to serve her church as a devoted parishoner attending weekly services and annually participating in the Hellenic Fest with food preparation. Vasiliki was a renouned member of the Newport community seen by residents as she completed her daily walks.
She is survived by her children, James Mellekas and his wife Toula of Middletown, RI, Ronnie Kastritis and her husband Paul of Sun City, CA, Maria Kosmos and her husband Steve of San Diego, CA, and John Mellekas and his wife Martha of Newport, RI, fifteen grandchildren and thirty five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, many great nieces and great nephews, and several Godchildren.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at 10:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, followed by funeral services 11:00 AM in St. Spyridon's Greek Orthodox Church, 390 Thames Street, Newport.
Burial will be in Island Annex Cemetery in Newport.

Anita Grosvenor McAndrews
NEWPORT, RI - Anita (Grosvenor) McAndrews, 81, of 101 Washington Street, Newport, RI, formerly of Clearwater Beach, FL, died Saturday, October 15, 2005, at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.
She was the wife of the late Thomas Bernard McAndrews.
Born in Brookline, MA, on April 22, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Theodore P. and Anita (Strawbridge) Grosvenor.
Anita was a lifelong artist and published writer. She was a founding member of the Spring Bull Gallery in Newport, and later was a member artist of the DeBlois Gallery for many years. She was a member of the National League of American PenWomen, the Redwood Library, and the International Women´s Writers Guild. Anita was also a founding member of Panama´s Museum of Art in Panama City, Panama, where she also worked as a journalist. She spent over thirty five years in Panama which greatly influenced her prolific creativity touching many peoples lives.
She is survived by three sons Thomas S. McAndrews of Newport, RI, Theodore G. McAndrews of Scottsdale, AZ, and Robert J. McAndrews of San Francisco, CA, four daughters Adrienne Schiffner of Phoenix, AZ, Deborah McAndrews of Charlottesville, VA, Kathleen S. Sweet of Clearwater, FL, and Anita B. Welch of Clearwater, FL, her brother Robert Grosvenor of East Hampton, Long Island, NY, her sister Rose Ryan of Lomita, CA, eight grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
She was the sister of the late Pamela Shea.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2005, at 12:30PM, in Channing Memorial Church, 135 Pelham Street, Newport.
Burial will be private.

Leo Barboza Amado
NEWPORT, RI - Leo Barboza Amado, 85, of 164 Locust Avenue, Portsmouth, RI died Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Newport Hospital where he was surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Mary Theresa (Costa) Amado. They had just celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary on January 24 of this year.
Born in Pawtucket, RI on June 28, 1920, he was the son of the late Leo B. and Candida (Monteiro) Amado.
Mr. Amado served in the United States Army during the European Theater. He had worked as a driver on the US Naval Base in the Transportation Department. Mr. Amado also worked with his father at his restaurant the former Leo´s First and Last Stop on Long Wharf in Newport. He loved his hobby, the LBA Farm, raising livestock including horses, cattle, pigs, goats, ducks, and chickens, his favorite was his horse Goldie.
Leo was a member of St. Barnabas Church, the Newport Cape Verdian Club and the Bristol Chapter of The Disabled American Veterans.
Besides his wife of 57 years, he is survived by his stepson Anthony J. Amado of Rochester, NY, his brothers William B. Amado and Theodore B. Amado both of Portsmouth, RI, his sister Amelia Ferreira of Newport, RI, his grandchildren Anthony Amado and Rachel Amado both of Rochester, NY, Jeremy Amado of Oakland, CA, Talon Amado of Ledyard, CT, and his great-grandchildren Adain Amado and Hanna Amado of Rochester, NY, Chae Amado, Mia Amado, and Monea Amado all of Oakland, CA.
He is preceded in death by his son Leo Michael Amado, his brothers John S. Amado, Benjamin Amado, Walter Amado, Frank “Nelson” Amado, Joseph “Joe-Joe” Amado and his sister Florinda Boors.
His funeral will be held on Saturday October 22, 2005 at 9:00 AM from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
Burial will be in Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI.

Noreen Mary (Egan) Babine
PORTSMOUTH, RI - Noreen Mary (Egan) Babine, 76, of 21 Eyler Drive, Portsmouth, RI died Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at home.
She was the wife of the late Cdr. Arthur L. Babine.
Born in Quincy, MA on December 19, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Elizabeth Grace (Donaher) Egan.
Noreen attended St. Mary’s School in Quincy and Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth, Ma, graduating in 1945. Mrs.Babine was a homemaker and a bookkeeper.
She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Babine was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth.
She is survived by her three sons Paul Babine of Portsmouth, RI, Stephen M. Babine of Jacksonville, FL, and Philip E. Babine of Portsmouth, RI, her daughter-in-laws Tandee and Cristiane, her granddaughter Catherine, her sister Edna Walker of Braintree, MA, and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Alice Border and William, Francis and Paul Eagan.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 10:30 from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30am in St. Barnabas Church, 1697 East Main Road, Portsmouth.

Manuel J. Soares
Manuel J. “Shorty” Soares, 88, of 55 Mare Terrace, Portsmouth, RI died Wednesday, October 19, 2005, surrounded by his family, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, in Fall River, MA.
He was the husband of Mary (Beirola) Soares.
Born in Portsmouth, RI, on May 28, 1917, he was the son of the late Jose and Justina (Rego) Soares.
Mr. Soares was a self employed farmer who ran the Soares Produce Stand on East Main Road, at the foot of Sprague Street, selling his produce and dairy products for years at that location as well as the Farmer´s Market in Fall River, MA. Mr. Soares was also a member of the Portsmouth Concerned Citizens.
Besides his wife of 63 years, he is survived by his son Manuel Joseph Soares of Portsmouth, RI, his daughters, Mary Lou Sylvia of Tiverton, RI, Elaine M. Aguiar of Somerset, MA, and Joyce A. Rolfe of Portsmouth, RI, his brothers Joseph Soares of Attleboro, MA, and Antone Soares of Portsmouth, RI, his grandson Shawn Rolfe of Portsmouth, RI, his granddaughters Erica Soares of Portsmouth, RI, Michelle Aguiar and Ashley Aguiar both of Providence, RI, Stephanie Morris and Jennifer Rolfe both of Portsmouth, RI, and four great grandchildren, Kayson Soares, Kylee Morris, Alyssa Arruda and Dennis Arruda, all of Portsmouth.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Frank Soares, and four sisters, Helen Silvia, Clara Gomes, Adeline Faria, and Mary Soares.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2005, at 8:00AM from the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI, followed by a Mass of Christian burial, at 9:00AM, in St. Anthony's Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
