Dorothy (Kirkwood) Milley McDaid
Portsmouth, RI - Dorothy (Kirkwood) Milley McDaid, 83, of 65 Gormley Avenue, Portsmouth, formerly of Aquidneck Place, Portsmouth, RI, died Saturday, September 4, 2004, at the Grand Islander Health Care Center after a long illness.
She was the wife of the late Jack Milley and the late John McDaid.
Born in Fall River, MA on September 7, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Stephen P. and Elizabeth (Flood) Kirkwood.
Mrs. McDaid grew up in Portsmouth. She graduated from Rogers High School and the Newport Hospital School of Nursing and went on to her nursing career in New York’s Kings County Hospital, where she spent more than 30 years caring for premature infants.
She met her first husband, Jack, in Newport, and she moved to New York City when he returned to a Naval Hospital there following WWII. After his death, she remained in New York and earned her BSN at St. John’s University. In 1953, she met and married her second husband, John, who passed away in 1979.
After retiring, she moved back home to Portsmouth, where she was a Communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.
She is survived by her son John McDaid of Portsmouth, RI, a daughter in law Karen McDaid of Portsmouth, her beloved grandson Jack McDaid of Portsmouth, RI, her sister in law Juliette Kirkwood Whitehead of New Bedford, MA, her brother in law Michael McDaid of Middletown, RI, and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Arthur Kirkwood, Stephen B. “Buddy” Kirkwood and Rita (Kirkwood) Hoyt, and the grandmother of the late Maxwell McDaid.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, September 9, 2004, at 10:00AM, in St. Anthony's Church, 2836 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fall River.

James Thomas Perry
Middletown - James Thomas Perry, 58, of 1 King Road Middletown, died Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at Newport Hospital, Newport, RI.
Born in Newport, RI, on August 27, 1946, he was the son of the late Manuel Pine Perry and Josephine (Silvia) Perry.
Mr. Perry was a Certified Nursing Assistant with Newport Hospital for over 30 years retiring in 2001. He was a Communicant of St. Lucy´s Church. James enjoyed his flower garden, sitting down and reading a good book, and crocheting for his nieces and nephews. He had a great love for all animals. Mr. Perry also enjoyed attending and participating in dances and performed in the Newport Hospital Fundraiser, “The Follies” during the early 1980´s.
Mr. Perry was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, serving the U.S. Air Force from 1966-1970 achieving the rank of Sergeant.
He is survived by his siblins Diane Moore of Middletown, RI, Manuel J. Perry of Coventry, RI, Richard A. Perry of Portsmouth, RI, Daniel A. Perry of Middletown, RI, Raymond Pine of Middletown, RI, Patricia Virgadamo of Portsmouth, RI, and Denise Patnaude of Central Falls, RI, seven nieces and nephews, and six great nieces and nephews.

Marielle DeSilvia
Portsmouth, RI – Marielle (Field) DeSilvia, 61, of 90 Founders Ave Portsmouth, formerly of Rose Street & Oakwood Terrace, died Friday, March 25, 2005 at Newport Hospital.
She was the wife of Joseph DeSilvia of Porstmouth, RI.
Born in Pensacola, Florida on November 12, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Russell and Grace (Brown) Field.
In her youth Mel worked for her father in the family business Liggett´s Pharmacy in Middletown, RI, she then went to work for Stop & Shop in Middletown, RI. For the past 20 years she worked at Shamrock Electric as the office manager. Mel loved dog training and was a loyal german shepherd owner, “Kimoe” was her favorite german shepherd. Mel was active with dog training at Betty TLC Dog Training in Middletown.
Besides her loving husband she is survived by her brothers and sister Jeffrey Field of Tiverton, RI, Richard Field of Millsboro, DE, and Cristin Field of South Belmar, NJ, her uncle and aunt Marshall and Phyliss Field of Newport, RI.

David Francis Medeiros
Fort Walton Beach, FL - David Francis Medeiros, 36, of 1633 Florence Avenue Fort Walton Beach, FL, formerly of 61 Brown Terrace, Portsmouth, RI, died Monday, March 28, 2005 at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center Fort Walton Beach, FL.
Born in Newport, Rhode Island on June 27, 1968, he was the son of Anthony Francis Medeiros and Ann Marie (Fredette) Medeiros of Portsmouth.
David was in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Maryland. He was a 1986 graduate of Portsmouth High School, graduating with high honors. David received a full ROTC Scholarhsip at Renssaler Polytechnic in Troy New York, where he graduated in 1990. He was a software engineer and manager for Tybrin Company of Fort Walton Beach, FL, where he was an intergrated product team leader. David was an avid computer fan.
Besides his parents he is survived by his brother and sister Anthony Francis Medeiros II of North Reading, MA and Annmarie Frances Medeiros-Higgins of Portsmouth, RI, his grandmothers Almorinda Botelho Medeiros of Vero Beach, FL and Anne Hudson Fredette of Newport, RI, his aunts and uncle Patricia Rodrigues and Henry Rodrigues both of Portsmouth, RI and Mary Lou Hook of Vero Beach, FL and his nieces and nephew Sarah Medeiros of Portsmouth, RI, Christopher Medeiros of North Reading, MA, Jamie Higgins and Annie Higgins both of Portsmouth, RI.
He was the grandson of the late Anthony E. Medeiros and Norman Fredette.

Elizabeth Frances Quigley
Newport - Elizabeth Frances Quigley, 92, of 7 Everett Street, Newport, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at home.
Born in Newport, RI on June 27, 1912, and was the daughter of the late William and Ruth Pearl (Riggs) Quigley.
Miss Quigley graduated from the URI School of Pharmacy. During WWII she worked at the Newport Torpedo Station. After WWII she worked as a pharmacist at the former Franklin Pharmacy in Newport and the former Fagan Pharmacy in Middletown until her retirement in the 1970´s.
She is survived by her nephew John F. Bestoso of Columbus, OH and her niece Alice M Lucas of Killingworth, CT.
She was also sister of the late Helen Quigley Bestoso and aunt of the late William J. Bestoso.
A memorial mass will be held at a time to be announced

Mario Joaquin
Portsmouth - Mario Joaquin, 83, of 26 Foxboro Avenue, Portsmouth, died Friday, April 15, 2005 at Rhode Island Hospital Providence, RI.
He was the husband of 52 years of Beatrice (Medeiros) Joaquin.
Born in Fall River, MA, on December 13, 1921, he was the son of the late Antonio and Amelia (Farinha) Joaquin.
Mr. Joaquin had worked as a truck driver for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Brockton, MA, for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII in Africa and Italy on the Anti Tank Unit #338. Mr. Joaquin was a Communicant of St. Anthony´s Church in Portsmouth. He had also worked for his father at the Lucky Loaf Bread Company in Fall River, MA, as a deliveryman. Mr. Joaquin will be sadly missed by his family.
Besides his wife he is survived by the sons Stephen Joaquin of Port Charlotte, FL, Mark Joaquin of Portsmouth, RI, and Kenneth Joaquin of Portsmouth, RI, a daughter Anne Connor of Tallahassee, FL, a brother Edward Joaquin of Fall River, MA, a sister Celeste Oliveira of Fall River, MA, a brother in law Cobby Oliveira of Fall River, MA, six grandchildren Erika Joaquin, Wyatt Joaquin, David Joaquin, Bradley Connor, Dylan Connor, and Dana Connor, three great grandchildren Noah Joaquin, Jason Alex, and Brandon Joaquin, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2005, at 10:00 AM in the Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth.
Burial will be private.

Elizabeth M. Ottilige
MIDDLETOWN, RI - Elizabeth M. Ottilige, 81, of 191 Forest Avenue, Middletown, RI formerly of 49 Beacon Street, Middletown, RI, died Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at Forest Farm Health Care Center, Middletown, RI.
She was the wife of the late John Thomas Ottilige Jr.
Born in Newport, RI on Dec. 25, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Claude D. and Nora (Baker) Shaw.
Mrs. Ottilige worked for The Naval War College in the Library Acquisitions Department for ten years. Prior to her years with the War College she worked for the Industrial National Bank. Mrs. Ottilige had been a waitress at McGann´s Restaurant, and had also worked at The Newport Naval Base on Goat Island. She enjoyed golfing and square dancing with the Fall River Liners. She was a member of the the Wanumetonomy Golf Club where she enjoyed playing bridge, and also a member of The Easton´s Beach Club. She taught cribbage at the Edward King Multi-Purpose Senior Center and was a member of the Red Hat Society Newport Chapter.
She is survived by her children John Thomas Ottilige of North Kingstown, RI, Michael Claude Ottilige of Middletown, RI, Joan A. Alose of Newport, RI, her brother David Shaw of Newport, RI, and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by a brother Stephen Shaw and two sisters, Alice Nelson and Frances Palmer.
Her funeral will be held Saturday October 1, 2005 at 8:00am from the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00am in St. Mary's Church, Spring Street, Newport.
Burial will be in St. Columba's Cemetery in Middletown.
Calling hours will be held Friday September 30, 2005 from 4-8pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.
Mary E. Simmons
Middletown, RI - Mary E. Simmons, 87, of 1998 West Main Road Middletown, died Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at home in Middletown, RI.
She was the wife of the late Alexander Barker Simmons who died in August 2004.
Born in Delta, UT on January 28, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Edmund and Eunice (Kendrick) Hibbard.
Mrs. Simmons moved to Chatham, Massachusetts at the age of 8. After graduating high school she moved to Newport for nursing school at Newport Hospital. She then married Alexander Simmons in February 1941. After her children grew up she worked for several years as a private service nurse. Mrs. Simmons is a member of St. Mary´s Episcopal Church, and the Newport Hospital Alumni Association. She spent most of her time caring for her family, and helping her husband on the Simmons Farm in Middletown.
She is survived by two sons Alexander Barker Simmons Jr. and his wife Patricia of Middletown, RI, and John E. Simmons and his wife Cynthia of Tiverton, RI, three daughters Mary Elizabeth Owens and her husband Kenneth of Wickford, RI, Cynthia Louise Simmons and her husband Bob Hurley of Portsmouth, RI, and Eunice Ann Gizzi and her husband Ralph of Portsmouth, RI, twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother George Hibbard and her sister Elizabeth Eldridge.
Her funeral will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2005, at 1:30 PM in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Road, Portsmouth.
Burial will be Private.

Anthony Spero
MIDDLETOWN, RI - Anthony Spero, 89 of 600 Valley Road Middletown, RI, formerly of 89 Bayview Park, Middletown, died Wednesday September 28, 2005 at John Clarke Nursing Center.
He was the husband of the late Virginia (Moore) Spero.
Born in Newport, RI, on October 3, 1924, he was the son of the late Ceasar and Mary (Radice) Spero.
Mr. Spero was a Quality Control Inspector at General Electric for seventeen years retiring in 1977.
He is survived by his son Eric Spero of Cambridge, VT, his two brothers Michael Spero of Newport, RI, and Ceasar Spero of Portsmouth, RI, his two sisters Teddy Dufur of Fallon, NV, and Marguerite Wander of Bowie, MD.
His funeral will be held on Monday October 3, 2005 from The Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport at 7:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 8:30am in St. Marys Church, Spring Street, Newport, RI.
Burial will be in St. Columba's Cemetery in Middletown.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2005 from 4pm-7pm in the funeral home.

Floride (Hewitt) Taylor
Newport, RI - Floride (Hewitt) Taylor died here Tuesday, September 27, 2005. She was the wife of Captain LeRoy Taylor, U.S. Navy (Retired) and the daughter of Admiral and Mrs. H. Kent Hewitt.
Born in Annapolis, Maryland, she was educated at Vassar College and Pembroke College. From 1966 to 1981 she was head librarian at St. George's School. She served also on the Board of Directors of the Redwood Library. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames and served on the Whitehall Committee. She was a former member of the Vestry and the Altar Guild of Trinity Church.
Besides her husband she is survived by her children Martha Taylor Schantz of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Kent Hewitt Taylor of Santa Fe, New Mexico, her grandchildren Ridgely Schantz and Holly and Gabriel Taylor, and by her sister, Mary Kent Norton of Spokane, Washington.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 3, 2005, at 10:00 am in Trinity Church, Newport, followed by her interment in Trinity Cemetery, East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI.
