HENRY A. CAPUANO - North Providence

HENRY A. CAPUANO, 90, of Olney Street, a textile manufacturer and president of Vel-Cord Southern Corp. of Lumberton, N.C., for many years before retiring in 1980, died yesterday at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the husband of Eleanora R. (Garafano) Capuano.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Antonio and Carmela (Ricci) Capuano, he had lived in North Carolina for 25 years before moving to North Providence 17 years ago. Mr. Capuano was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of the architecture department at the Rhode Island School of Design. He was a member of the Aurora Civic Club, the Elks and the Knights of Columbus, all in North Carolina. He was a communicant of St. Augustine Church, Providence, and a member of its Holy Name Society.

Besides his wife, he leaves a sister, Etta Capuano of North Providence. He was a brother of the late Rose Annotti, Lena DeSimone, Edward and Silvio Capuano.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial will be private.

RICHARD "ROCKY" A. LEE - North Providence

RICHARD "ROCKY" A. LEE, 75, of Smithfield Road, a truck driver for McLaughlin & Moran Budweiser Distributors for 30 years retiring in 1985, died Monday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Providence. He was the husband of Phyllis E. (Curt) Lee.

Born in Willimantic, Conn., a son of the late Charles and Pearl (Richards) Lee, he had lived in Providence before moving to North Providence three years ago. Mr. Lee was a World War II Marine veteran. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 251 and a member of the Teamsters Retiree's Association.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Stephen C. Lee of North Providence; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Exeter. Burial with military honors will follow.

Jason Matthew Hosford, 20, killed by Amtrak train

ATTLEBORO -- Jason Matthew Hosford, 20, of 12 School St., an electroplater for Handy & Harmon of North Attleboro for the past year, died Monday afternoon when he stepped in front of a northbound Amtrak train. His body was found on a middle track just south of the Attleboro train station.

Born in Attleboro, he was a son of Dale A. Hosford of Hickory, N.C., and Valerie J. Dubuc-Silva of Seekonk.

Mr. Hosford was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. He was an avid skier, snow boarder and roller blader. He was a freelance charcoal sketch artist.

Besides his parents, he leaves three sisters, Kristen Elizabeth Silva of Seekonk, Elisabeth Hosford and Brittany Hosford, both of Hickory; his maternal grandparents, Rene A. and Mabel J. (Bouffard) Dubuc of Attleboro; and his paternal grandparents, David A. Hosford of Plymouth, and Dorothy J. (Courchine) Spittell of Attleboro, with whom he made his home.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Foley-Hathaway Funeral Home, 126 South Main St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Joseph's Church, 208 South Main St. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery. Story Page B-3

IDELLA C. "DALE" HAGENSEN - Portsmouth

IDELLA C. "DALE" HAGENSEN, of Cliff Avenue, an office worker at Stop & Shop, Middletown, for 24 years before retiring in 1985, died Monday at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. She was the wife of Samuel F. "Fritz" Hagensen. Born in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Marion (Gonsalves) Furtado.

She was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Hagensen was a former member of the Portsmouth Democratic Women's Club.

Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Deja Vu Allison of Portsmouth; and two granddaughters. She was the sister of the late Elliot Furtado.

The Eucharist of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Rd. Burial will be private.

MARY LOUISE LaFONTAINE - Providence

MARY LOUISE LaFONTAINE, 91, of Alger Avenue, a sample supervisor for Gorham Manufacturing Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1972, died Monday at Elmhurst Extended Care Facility.

Born in Bristol, a daughter of the late Frederick and Bridget (Shugrue) LaFontaine, she had lived in Providence for more than 70 years.

Mrs. LaFontaine was a member of St. Matthew Church in Cranston.

She leaves a sister, Catherine Freethy of Providence; and several nieces, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was the sister of the late Edith Schnitzler.

The funeral will be held Friday at 8:45 a.m. from Carpenter-Jenks Quaker Lane Chapel, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Matthew Church, Park and Elmwood Avenues, Cranston. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham, Conn.

GEORGE B. TOMPKINS JR. - Providence

GEORGE B. TOMPKINS JR., 79, of Cranberry Highway, Wareham, Mass., manager of the computer department at General Electric in Pittsfield, Mass., for 20 years, and at Berkshire-Hathaway Co. in New Bedford, Mass., for 3 years, and an employee of the former Gorham Silver Co. before retiring, died yesterday at Forestview Nursing Home in Wareham. He was the husband of Carolyn (Cozzio) Tompkins.

Born in White Plains, N.Y., he was a son of the late George B. and Grace (Minerva) Tompkins.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Judith Morse of Wareham, and Susan Nichols in New Jersey; two sisters, Agnes Steutzel in New York, and Ruth Brady of Lenox, Mass.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

GLORIA M. PESATURO, 66, of Rosedale Street, a solderer with several jewelry firms for 38 years before retiring recently, died yesterday at Roger Williams Medical Center. She was the wife of John A. Pesaturo.

Born in Johnston, a daughter of the late Peter and Sarah (Zambarano) Scorpio, she had lived in Providence for 50 years.

Besides her husband, she leaves a son, John A. Pesaturo Jr., and a daughter, Donna M. Hannon, both of Providence; a brother, Peter Scorpio of Glocester; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. from the Marino-Prata Home, 375 Branch Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Ann Church, Hawkins Street. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Pawtucket.

MARY E. McCABE, 49, of Middleton Court, Wheaton, Ill., died Saturday at home. She was the wife of Edward J. McCabe Jr.

Born in Providence, a daughter of Raymond J. and Adele (Fontaine) Rose of Providence, she had lived in Wheaton for the past 10 years. Besides her husband and parents, she leaves two daughters, Christine M. Becker of Portland, Oreg. and Melissa McCabe of Tucson, Ariz.; a son, Edward J. McCabe III of Wheaton; four brothers, Raymond Rose of Johnston, Robert A. Rose and Russell Rose, both of Providence, and Ronald Rose of San Antonio, Texas; and five sisters, Carol A. Beaulieu of Foster, Sharon Piccoli, Shirley Piccoli, Patricia J. Rose and Catherine J. Malkasian, all of Providence.

The funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Thomas Church, Fruit Hill Avenue. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton, Mass.

ALBERT DANFORTH STAPLES - Tiverton

ALBERT DANFORTH STAPLES, 83, of 2429 Whatley Blvd., Sebring, Fla., formerly of 301 Bulgarmarsh Rd., who served in the Navy for 29 years before retiring in 1970, died yesterday at Heartland Medical Center in Sebring. He was the husband of Evelyn I. (Brassfield) Staples. He was the husband of the late Florence M. (Sampson) Staples.

Born in Boston, a son of the late Albert R. and Harriet (Sweeten) Staples, he had lived in Tiverton before moving to Florida.

Mr. Staples was a master chief quartermaster in the Navy. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve of Sebring, and of VFW Post 9856 of Avon Park, Fla. He was a former member of Fleet Reserve Association Branch 19, and VFW Post 5392. He was a former communicant of St. Christopher Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves a sister, Harriet T. Martin of Provincetown, Mass. He was a brother of the late William S. Staples and Harriet Staples.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Rd., Route 114, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

RANDY S. VIAU, 32, of Rivervue Avenue, a self-employed shellfisherman and construction worker for 15 years, died Sunday at Kent County Memorial Hospital.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Edgar F. Viau Sr. and Doris R. (Entwistle) Viau, he was a lifelong Warwick resident.

Mr. Viau leaves three sisters, Leslie A. Stusik, Karen N. Joyal and Janice E. Capuano, all of Warwick; and three brothers, Donald A. Viau in Tennessee, Ronald J. Viau and Edgar F. Viau Jr., both of Warwick.

The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 8 p.m. at the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. Burial will be private.

JEANNE M. BOYLE - Warwick

JEANNE M. BOYLE, 75, of Lansdowne Road died yesterday at home. She was the wife of the late Emmet J. Boyle.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary A. (Carew) McGowan, she had lived in Cranston before moving to Warwick in 1970.

Mrs. Boyle was a Navy veteran of World War II, and was one of the first five WAVEs to serve from Rhode Island. She attended Rhode Island College and was a communicant of St. Peter Church.

She leaves three sons, James D. Boyle of Wethersfield, Conn., John J. Boyle of San Diego, Calif., and Gerard E. Boyle of China, Maine; three daughters, Mary Catherine Boyle of Warwick, Jeanne M. Boyle of East Providence, and Amy B. Vandersall of Hampton, N.H.; and 13 grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the Peter J. Barrett Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Peter Church, Fair Street. Burial will be in Mount St. Mary Cemetery in East Providence.
