ROSE M. GINGERELLA

Rose M. (Pignataro) Gingerella, 95, formerly of Pierce Street, Westerly, died Nov. 28, 2003, at the Watch Hill Manor, Westerly.

She was the wife of the late John H. Gingerella Sr., who died in 1977. They had been married for 52 years.

Born in Westerly in 1907, she was the daughter of the late James and Peppina (Teranova) Pignataro. She had attended the Pleasant Street School in Westerly and married John H. Gingerella in 1925. She had also been employed as a weaver at the George C. Moore Co., and then co-operated the "Terminal Lunch Diner" on Railroad Avenue for 12 years. They also ran a catering business for about 15 years.

Mrs. Gingerella was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, and a member of the Rosary and Altar Society, the Ladies Calabrese Society, and the Third Order of Mary, and she was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She enjoyed taking care of her family, and she was noted for her cooking and baking, especially for her "Rosey-John" cookies. She had been named "Mother-of-the-Year" by the Westerly Lodge of Elks in 1988. She was a Red Sox fan and loved the Patriots and was a Providence College fan as well.

She is survived by her three sons and four daughters-in-law: John H. Gingerella Jr. and his wife Ann of Las Vegas, Nevada, Donald J. Gingerella and his wife Frances of Westerly, Robert Gingerella and his wife Elaine of Pawcatuck, and Georgette Gingerella of Westerly; two sisters, Millie Cofoni of Westerly and Margaret Gallo of Bradford; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Sylvester Gingerella; two brothers, Richard L. Pignataro Sr. and Fiore Pignataro; and one great-grandchild.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, Elm Street, Westerly. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Pawcatuck.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rose's memory can be made to The Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly, RI 02891.

SUSAN ANDREW SWEET

Susan Andrew Sweet of North Stonington died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at The Westerly Hospital.

Born in Potsdam, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Russell Andrew and Mrs. Elisabeth Andrew Schoeffel.

A graduate of the University of Rochester, Susan began her master's in reading at Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa., and taught elementary school in the Abington Township School District in Abington, Pa. Most recently, she was employed at the law office of Lenihan, Grady and Steele.

After moving to North Stonington, where she resided for 33 years, Susan devoted her time and energy to raising her family and servicing her community. Susan was a volunteer member of numerous organizations throughout her lifetime. She was vice president of the Stonington Junior Women's Club, board member of The Westerly Hospital Aid Association; co-chairperson of the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut, vice president of the North Stonington Garden Club; appointed member of the Junior High School Program Evaluation Committee for the North Stonington Board of Education, chairperson of the North Stonington Planned Parenthood program, elected member of the board of tax review, and member and chairperson of the board of deacons for North Stonington Congregational Church.

Susan was the loving wife of the late Dr. James R. Sweet and the devoted mother of Andrew Sweet, Megan Sweet Stuart and Caitlin Sweet Miner. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Elisabeth Manning Stuart and William Sweet Miner; and Chester, her yellow Labrador retriever.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the North Stonington Congregational Church, 89 Main St., North Stonington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Stonington Congregational Church, P.O. Box 66, North Stonington, CT 06359 or to the Komen Foundation, P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309/www.komen.org.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly.

TRAVIS SHAWN, 2

Travis G. Shawn, 2, beloved son of "Ritt" T. and Donna M. (Fusaro) Shawn and beloved brother of Tyler T. Shawn, all of Laurel Avenue, Westerly, passed away suddenly at The Westerly Hospital, Dec. 4, 2003.

Travis was born in Westerly July 15, 2001. He enjoyed playing ball and riding 4-wheelers with his dad and brother, and loved taking daily walks with his mom.

In addition to his parents and brother in Westerly, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Samuel and Catherine Fusaro of Westerly, paternal grandmother Bonnie R. Shawn of Westerly (He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Ronnie G. Shawn); his paternal great-grandparents, Frank and Barbara Card of Ashaway; his godparents, Dave Ferraro of Hope Valley and Carol Lamorte of Westerly; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, Elm Street, Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Travis' name be made to The American Cancer Society, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688 or to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, UICU unit, 365 Montauk Ave., New London, CT 06329.

JEAN GRAHAM BINGHAM

Jean Graham Bingham, 78, of Mountain Brook, Ala., died Dec. 6, 2003

Mrs. Bingham was born in Hopkinton on Oct. 30, 1925, the daughter of Margaret (McDonald) and William H. Graham of Bradford.

She was educated in the Westerly school system and at Sargent College of Boston University, graduating as valedictorian at each. She taught physical education in the public schools of Newton Mass., rejoined Sargent College as a member of its faculty and served there until 1952.

She was a devotee of women's field hockey, which she both taught and played. She was four times chosen to the All-American Field Hockey team, and she traveled with the United States team in international play in the United Kingdom, Europe and South Africa. She later taught the game to classes at Mountain Brook High School, furnishing the equipment. In 1981, she was elected to the Boston University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mrs. Bingham was widely known and loved for her tireless activity as a Girl Scout volunteer for over 40 years. She was twice presented the Cahaba Girl Scout Council's highest award, The Thanks Badge. She originated the popular "Brownie Magic" event. She also started recognition banquets and camping events for older girls that have continued for many years. She was president of the Mountain Brook PTA Council and the Birmingham Civiettes Club, a cerebral palsy support group.

Mrs. Bingham is survived by her husband, John Bingham; son, John Bingham Jr. of Vestavia Hills, Ala.; daughter, Jeanie Bingham (Michael) Payne of Avondale Estates, Ga.; sons, Dr. William Chester (Lucy) Bingham of Fairhope, Ala., and Donald Walter Bingham of Birmingham; her grandchildren, Margaret Anne Bingham, William Wakefield Bingham, Kathlene McDonald Payne, John Alexander Bingham, Michael Denis Payne Jr., Graham Edward Bingham, Andrew Gilbert Payne, Charles Graham Bingham, Lucy Glenn Bingham, and Sarah Grace Bingham.

She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Sally McCormack Bingham; and brothers, William H. Graham Jr., John Munro Graham, Donald Graham and Douglas M. Graham.

Memorial services were held Dec. 9 at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, 2017 6th Ave. North, Birmingham, with a private burial. Dean Paul Zahl and Vice Dean John Harris Harper officiated.

Memorials may be made to Girl Scouts of Cahaba Council, 105 Heatherbrooke Park Drive, Birmingham, AL 35242 or the Cathedral Church of the Advent (Outreach Program) or Sargent College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, 635 Commonwealth Ave., Boston, MA 02215.

CONSTANCE L. DYKES

Constance "Connie" L. Dykes, 55, of 137 Tower St., Westerly, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at her home.

Connie was born in New Haven, Conn., on Sept. 7, 1948, the daughter of the late Ella Evelyn (Lowell) and John Henry Wood Rowe.

Connie was a certified nursing assistant for many years, and she did private duty nursing in Rhode Island and Connecticut.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Kimberly Corey of Norwich; and her sister, Hope Chittenden of Old Saybrook, Conn. She also leaves two grandsons, Anthony Dykes and Connor Corey, both of Norwich.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Rowe.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m. in the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

LINDA DESENA BOOTH

Linda DeSena Booth, 58, died peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Nov. 30, 2003, after a brief illness.

Linda, beloved daughter of Angelo "Desi" DeSena and the late Eileen (Foley) DeSena, was born June, 9, 1945, in New Britain, Conn., where she spent her childhood and received her education. Linda enjoyed cooking and traveling, with recent trips to Ireland and Italy.

She was self-employed until the time of her illness.

In addition to her father, Linda is survived by and will be sorely missed by her sons, Alan Booth of Westerly, Bill Booth of San Antonio, Texas, and Ryan Booth of Westerly; aunts, uncles, cousins in Connecticut and New Jersey, and her cat, Sasha.

Linda will always be remembered for her generous and loving spirit, her devotion to family and friends and her wonderful sense of humor.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Babcock Presbyterian Church, Maxon Street, Ashaway.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Linda's name will be accepted by Hospice of Rhode Island, South Office, 143 Main St., Wakefield, RI 02897.
