ODETE NETO - Fall River
ODETE NETO, 66, of 853 Eastern Ave., owner and operator for many years, with her husband, of the former Neto Chourico Manufacturing Co., Eastern Avenue, died Monday at home after an illness. She was the wife of Aires R. Neto.
Born in Faja de Cima, Sao Miguel, the Azores, a daughter of Rose (Medeiros) Andrade of Fall River and the late Jesse Andrade, she had been a Fall River resident for most of her life.
Mrs. Neto was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church.
Besides her husband and mother, she leaves two daughters, Deborah Ware of Vineland, N.J., and Tambra Licis of Tiverton; two sisters, her twin, Connie Raposo of Somerset and Linda Souza of Fall River.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Espirito Santo Church, 313 Alden St.

MARY BRIERLEY - Lincoln
MARY BRIERLEY, 72, of Crest Drive, a cook at the Mansion Nursing Home in Central Falls for 10 years before she retired in February, died Monday in Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. She was the wife of the late Jack Brierley.
Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred and Evelyn (Fairhurst) Massey. She had lived in Lincoln for 20 years, previously living in Pawtucket.
Mrs. Brierley was also employed by the Rose Cottage Nursing Home in Central Falls for many years.
She leaves three sons, John W. Brierley of Glocester, Dennis N. Brierley of Pawtucket and Allen T. Brierley of Lincoln; a sister, Hilda Wyllie, and a brother, Edmund Massey, both of Pawtucket; eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. from the Merrick R. Williams Funeral Home, 530 Smithfield Ave., Pawtucket, with services at 10 in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Weeden Street, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.

EUNICE E. MARTIN - Lincoln
EUNICE E. MARTIN, 82, of Yates Street, a waitress at the former Lou's Restaurant for many years before retiring in 1982, died Monday at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island. She was the wife of the late Joseph F. Martin.
A lifelong resident of Lincoln, she was a daughter of the late James and Alice (Kane) Andrew.
She leaves four sons, John D. Martin of Manville, Ronald J. Martin of Jamestown, Richard A. Martin of East Longmeadow, Mass., and Robert F. Martin of Tolland, Conn.; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. She was the sister of the late James, Melvin and Thomas Andrew.
The funeral service will be private. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.

JOSEPHINE PETTIS - Lincoln
JOSEPHINE PETTIS, 83, of 125 Main St., Manville, died yesterday at Rhode Island Hospital. She was the wife of the late Thomas E. Pettis.
A lifelong Manville resident, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Paula (Kalisz) Kusnarowis.
She leaves a daughter, Marsha Pettis-Rounds of Somerset, Mass., a granddaughter, Kimberly Leduc of Manville, with whom she lived; two sisters, Bridget Kusnarowis and Mary Tereska, both of Manville.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. from Menard's Funeral Home, 71 Central St., Manville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. James Church, 33 Division St., Manville. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Manville.

JOHN V. FRANEY - Newport
JOHN V. FRANEY, 88, of 10 Champlin Place, formerly of Walnut Street, Fall River, Mass., an election supervisor at the City Clerk's office, City Hall, in Fall River, and a cashier clerk at Raynham, Taunton and Lincoln Downs dog tracks before retiring in 1972, died Monday at Newport Hospital.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late Michael P. and Bridget (Boyle) Franey, he moved to Newport in 1972.
Mr. Franey was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Newport, and a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Fall River. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 570. He enjoyed acting and had small parts in the movie the Great Gatsby, filmed in Newport.
He leaves two nephews, Joseph Crofton and Frank Crofton, both of Fall River; and four nieces, Barbara Sullivan Auger of Stone Mountain, Ga., Eileen Plummer of Fall River, Ruth Cuilis and Margaret Seaman, both of Long Beach, Calif. He was the brother of the late William Franey, Patrick Franey, Myles F. Franey, Eileen Decon, Loretta Johnston, Ann R. Sullivan, Mary Shea and Ellen Crofton.
The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 9:15 a.m. from the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Joseph Church, Broadway. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Fall River.

HELEN "NELL" NEWBURY - Newport
HELEN "NELL" NEWBURY, 93, of 84 Carroll Ave., died Sunday at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Inpatient Center in Providence after an illness. She was the wife of the late George Edward Charles Newbury.
Born in Newport, the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (McCarthy) Shea, she was a lifelong resident of Newport's Fifth Ward.
She was a daily communicant of St. Augustin Church and a lifelong member of its Rosary and Scapular Society. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, the Queen's Daughters, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the former De La Salle Academy, St. Catherine Academy and St. Augustin School Mothers' Clubs. Mrs. Newbury was a Friend of the Newport Public Library and a shareholder of the Gooseberry Beach Association.
She had been an executive secretary to the general manager of the Newport Electric Corp., and later, was personal secretary to Mrs. Harvey S. Firestone Jr., and a secretary at The English Speaking Union.
For many years, Mrs. Newbury was a bookkeeper and secretary to the headmaster at the former Hatch Preparatory School for Boys, and after the school's move to Gardner, Mass., she was a bookkeeper and secretary to the headmistress at the former Newport School for Girls. She retired at age 70.
Mrs. Newbury was a 50-year member and patron of St. Anthony's Guild of the Franciscan Friars, the Columban Fathers Seminary in Bristol, the Foreign Mission Society of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, and the St. La Salle Auxiliary of the Christian Brothers. She was a member and supporter of the state and national Right to Life committees.
She leaves a son, Dr. John Daniel Newbury of Madison, Wis.; four daughters, Jane Marie Newbury of McLean, Va., Dr. Nancy Newbury, Mary Ellen Newbury O'Rourke and Helen Newbury Burke, all of Newport; a sister, Frances Shea Gleason of Newport; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons.
She was the mother of the late George Anthony Newbury, former state representative in the 100th District.
The funeral will be held Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Augustin Church, Carroll Avenue. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.

JEANNETTE C. BENOIT - North Attleboro
JEANNETTE C. BENOIT, 82, of 140 East Bacon St., Plainville, Mass., formerly of North Attleboro, an employee of the Foxboro Company, died Monday at home. She was the wife of the late Charles J. "Brud" Benoit.
Born in North Attleboro, a daughter of the late Aurius M. and Eva M. (Precourt) Cloutier, she lived in North Attleboro for most of her life.
She leaves a son, Douglas W. Benoit of Warwick, N.Y.; a daughter, Mary Ellen Benoit of Providence; two sisters, Adelyn Bell of North Attleboro and Yvonne Turinese of Taunton; and two grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Aldor A. Cloutier and Evelyn Durant.
The funeral service will be private.

DOROTHY M. O'CONNOR - North Attleboro
DOROTHY M. O'CONNOR, 67, of 3 Wade Rd., Plainville, assistant activities director at Madonna Manor, North Attleboro, for the last 12 years, died Sunday at Southwood Community Hospital, Norfolk. She was the wife of J. Thomas O'Connor.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late William and Winifred (O'Hara) O'Neill.
Mrs. O'Connor was a communicant of St. Martha's Church. She formerly worked at Texas Instruments, Attleboro, and was a home health aide.
Besides her husband, she leaves five daughters, Deborah A. Langille of North Attleboro, Kathleen M. Gould of Victorville, Calif., Patricia A. Dowling of Wrentham, Colleen M. Norton and Sharon M. Brown, both of Plainville; two brothers, James O'Neill in North Carolina and William O'Neill of Cranston; and 14 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held tomorrow at 8 a.m. from the John J. Diamond Funeral Home, 180 North Washington St., North Attleboro, with a funeral Mass at 9 in St. Martha's Church, 227 South St., Plainville. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, North Attleboro.

FRAMPTON B. SLADE - Pawtucket
FRAMPTON B. SLADE, 81, of Arland Drive, a sales engineer at Nightingale, Baker & Salisbury in East Providence for 14 years before retiring in 1987, died Monday at Roger Williams Medical Center. He was the husband of Alice (Johnston) Slade.
Born in Cumberland, a son of the late James F. and Olive (Buckingham) Slade, he lived in Pawtucket for 58 years. Mr. and Mrs. Slade celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on June 3rd.
Mr. Slade had been a sales engineer for Achorn Steel Company in Boston and Crucible Steel Company in Providence.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant in the 3410th Service Command. He was a life member of Jenks Lodge 24 F&AM in Pawtucket. He was a past chairman and life member of the Rhode Island Chapter, American Society for Metals International, and a past chairman and life member of the Southeastern Massachusetts Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He was a member of the AARP.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Gail S. Sarahs of Brockton, Mass.; a son, Alan F. Slade of North Kingstown; a sister, Thelma Harrison of Riverside; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Alan and Clyde Slade.
A Masonic service will be conducted by the members of Jenks Lodge 24 F&AM tomorrow at 7 p.m. in the Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Rd., Lincoln. The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Bellows Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Newell Burying Ground, South Attleboro, Mass.

JOAO M. COSTA - Pawtucket
JOAO M. COSTA, 70, of Prospect Street, a forklift operator at Hasbro Co. in Pawtucket for 10 years before retiring in 1979, died yesterday at home. He was the husband of Cremilde (Moniz) Costa.
Born in Terceira, the Azores, a son of the late Manuel Machado and the late Maria (Felix) Costa, he came to this country 30 years ago, settling in Pawtucket.
Mr. Costa was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 251, and the Amigos Da Terceira.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Lina Fernandes of Seekonk, Mass., and Maria Joao Camara of Pawtucket; a brother, Antonio Costa of Turlock, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Friday at 8:45 a.m. from The Prata Home, 372 Broadway, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Holy Rosary Church, Traverse Street, Providence. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
