CHARLES A. MAKIN
Charles A. Makin, 55, of Downing Lane, Warwick, died Friday at home. He was the husband of Diane M. (Jenkins) Makin. They had been married for 27 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Malcolm A. and Dorothy B. (Brothers) Makin Sr., he had lived in Warwick for 16 years and Coventry nine years before returning to Warwick seven months ago.
He was a manager for X-Ray Inc., as well as a shipper-receiver and delivery person for the past 17 years. He had also worked as a delivery man for the former Delivery Services Inc., and as a teller for Citizens Bank, Post Road, Warwick. For the past 20 years, he also owned his own Internet Based Marketing Business.
He was a Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, with the rank of staff sergeant.
He was a licensed airplane pilot and enjoyed flying, gardening, and collecting HO scale model trains.
Active in the Faith Baptist Church in Warwick, he was a Church Deacon, Chairman of the Multimedia Committee, soloist, Sunday school teacher, volunteer for the SERVE program, and a member of the praise team. He was a former member and deacon of the Lakewood Baptist Church, Warwick. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Hianloland Fire Department, West Greenwich.
The funeral will be held Sunday, at 1:30 p.m., from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, (Route 117) Warwick. Funeral service, at 2:30 p.m., will be in Faith Baptist Church, Commonwealth Ave., Warwick. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Maple Root Baptist Church Cemetery, Coventry.
Victor M. Ponte
Victor M. Ponte, beloved son of Manuel and Glonaria (Menezes) Ponte, passed away Oct. 30, 2003, in Miami, Fla.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly.
LORRAINE 'PEGGY' FRIEND
Lorraine "Peggy" Friend, 49, of 5L Havens Road, Westerly, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003, at home surround by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Philip Friend.
Born in Westerly, March 4, 1954, daughter of John J. and Lorraine H. (Moran) Morrone. Peggy attended The Prout School and graduated from Chariho Regional High School. She received her bachelor of science in business administration from the University of Rhode Island. She worked at the former Harris Graphics in Pawcatuck in the accounts receivable department, then the Morrone agency for several years. Peggy was a substitute teacher in the Chariho High School Business Department for a year before working for her Mom and Dad at J.J. Morrone's Auto Service. Most recently Peggy worked as a Realtor with ReMax South County in Westerly where in 1999 she received the ReMax President's Club award; in 2000 she received the ReMax Executive Club award and despite her disease spreading in 2001, she achieved top sales agent status at her local ReMax office.
Peggy received the Rotary's prestigious, Paul Harris Award. In 2001 she received the Relay for Life's Courage Award.
As a young girl growing up, Peggy belonged to the 4H Nutmeggers where she fostered her love for horses. She also founded a 4-H group of her own in Ashaway. Peggy was CCD Teacher and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Victory Church in Ashaway. Peggy enjoyed golf and was an animal lover as evidenced by her dog, three cats and three horses. She was an avid horseback rider. Peggy competed for many years on the AQHA circuit. She enjoyed gardening, as she had a natural green thumb and was an outstanding cook.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 25 years, Philip and her loving children, sons, Brady, Brendan, Britton and daughter, Casey all at home; her dad and mom, John J. and Lorraine H. (Moran) Morrone, Jr. of North Stonington; her brothers and their wives, John J. and Judith Morrone III, Michael and Dana Morrone, Joseph A. and Suzanne Morrone, all of Westerly; her sister and husband, Ginny and Steve, Garsten of South Windsor, Conn., and sister and husband, Kathleen and Dave Saleem of Richmond; and sister and husband Jeanette and Eli Connors of North Stonington; her father and mother-in-law, Donald and Mary Friend of Westerly; brothers-in-law and wives, Bill and Kathy Friend of San Antonio, Texas, and David and Fran Friend of Bedford, Mass.; sister -in-law Linda and husband, James Ward and sister-in-law, Marianne Sammataro of Westerly. Peggy also leaves 23 nieces and nephews. Last, but certainly not least, she leaves her best friends, Bridgette, Jody, Lady, Darby, Scratch, Buttons and Marshmallow.
Peggy fought the "Fight" against cancer for almost 10 years and died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She will be sorely missed by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Church, Main Street, Ashaway. There is no procession from the funeral home. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly.

ANGELO E. "TIPPER" AZZINARO
Angelo E. "Tipper" Azzinaro, 88, known for his lifelong career in labor and personnel for the State of Rhode Island and the labor movement, died Nov. 10, 2003, at The Carriage House at the Elms, Westerly.
Born Oct. 21, 1915, in Westerly, he was the son of the late James and Annie (Murano) Azzinaro.
Mr. Azzinaro's work in the labor sector began in 1945 when he was appointed national representative for the Textile Workers of America, AFL-CIO, a post he held until 1948, when he was appointed labor conciliator and later executive secretary for the Labor Relations Board. He was named State Labor Administrator in 1974 by Governor Noel and then appointed Assistant Director of Administration by Governor Garrahy in 1979, a position he held until his retirement in 1985, serving the State of Rhode Island for 37 years. He was well known throughout Rhode Island for his skills in labor negotiations and progressive labor theories, and was held in highest regard by labor leaders, state officials and labor attorneys.
Tipper was a lifelong resident of and civic leader in Westerly, active in Democratic politics, a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, and a member of the Elks. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and known throughout the community for his generosity.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donalda (Coutu) Azzinaro of Westerly. He also leaves behind three sons, James P. Azzinaro of Woodstock, Conn., John A. Azzinaro of Westerly and David A. Azzinaro of North Kingstown; a daughter, Donalda M. Pare of South Kingstown; a sister, Nancy Ligouri and a brother, Joseph "Flash" Azzinaro, both of Westerly; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was brother to the late Samuel Azzinaro, former labor leader and elected official.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 45 Elm St., Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to the Alzheimer's Association of Rhode Island, 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence, RI 02906 be made in his honor.
THOMAS JOHN KORYTKOWSKI
Thomas John Korytkowski, 64, of 44 Pierce St., Westerly, died at his home November 21, 2003.
He was born in Westerly, son of the late Benjamin Korytkowski and Mrs. Rose B. (Turano) Korytkowski of Westerly.
He was employed as a carpet and tile installer at Wakefield Floor Covering and had also been employed at United Builders Supply Co.
He was an avid Yankees' fan, and he loved his trips to Block Island, where he was known as "Tom the Meat Man." He liked baking Christmas cookies for his friends. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his mother in Westerly, he leaves his former wife, Beth (Dorsey) Korytkowski of Westerly; five daughters, Joan Korytkowski, Tina McQuillan, Tonia Korytkowski and Melissa Korytkowski, all of Westerly, and Michele Lastes and her husband Bernard Lastes of Ashaway; three brothers, Michael Korytkowski of Canterbury, Conn., and Gary Korytkowski and Vincent Korytkowski, both of Westerly; two sisters, Carol Robertson of Alexandria, Va., and Cheryl DeBartolo of Edenton, N.C., and nine grandchildren, Christopher, Bethany, Michael, Jake, Brittany, Thomas, Nicholas, Jesse and Amanda.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2-5 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday at 12 noon in St. Pius X Church, Elm Street, Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home.
Interment will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
ROSE B. KORYTKOWSKI
Rose B. (Turano) Korytkowski of Pierce Street, Westerly, died Thursday afternoon, Nov. 27, 2003, at Miriam Hospital in Providence. She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin Korytkowski, in 1974.
She leaves three sons, Gary A. Korytkowski and Vincent Korytkowski, both of Westerly, and W. Michael Korytkowski of Canterbury, Conn.; two daughters, Cheryl R. DeBartolo of Edenton, N.C. and Carol M. Robertson of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, John A. Turano of North Stonington and Anthony Turano of Westerly; three sisters, Gilda Colley of Bonham, Texas, Jennie Woodruff of Gales Ferry, Conn., and Philomena Wroblewski of Baltimore, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by her son, Thomas J. Korytkowski; her sister, Minnie Cortese; and three brothers, Santo Turano Jr., Louis Conto, and Thomas Turano.
Mrs. Korytkowski was born in Westerly on Dec. 10, 1923, the daughter of the late Santo and Rose (Iacoi) Turano Sr. She was the past president of the Women's Auxiliary at the Italian-American Club and a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Westerly.
The funeral will be held on Monday, Dec. 1, from Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home, 64 Friendship St., Westerly, with a Mass of Christian Burial at noon at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Burial will take place at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
