SUSIE E. TANNACCIO - North Providence

SUSIE E. TANNACCIO, 96, of 58 Rose St., died Saturday at Mount St. Francis Health Center. She was the wife of the late Pasquale Tannaccio.

Born in Toulon, France, a daughter of the late Joseph and Carmella (Ianelli) Castaldi, she had lived in North Providence for 28 years.

Mrs. Tannaccio was a weaver at the former J.D. Coats Co. of Pawtucket, retiring in 1966. She previously worked at the former Manville Jenckes Co. of Manville.

Mrs. Tannaccio was also a housekeeper at Our Lady of Grace Rectory in Johnston, at St. Agatha Rectory and St. Anthony Rectory, both in Woonsocket. She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church.

She leaves a son, Albert R. Tannaccio of Cranston; two brothers, Frank Castaldi and Louis Castaldi, both of Woonsocket; three sisters, Rose Bentley of Woonsocket, Margaret Novak of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Theresa Barone of North Providence; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Domenic, Ovide "Mickey" and Anello Castaldi.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Lauzon Memorial, 85 Rathbun St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, Green Street, Woonsocket. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Blackstone, Mass.

MARY D. "MAE" COLEMAN - Providence

MARY D. "MAE" COLEMAN, 89, of Lakeview Drive, died yesterday at home. She was the wife of the late James H. Coleman Jr., retired assistant chief of the Providence Fire Department.

A lifelong Providence resident, she was a daughter of the late James J. and Josephine (O'Connell) McManus.

She was a former Girl Scout Leader of Troop 26, Church of the Epiphany, Potters Avenue, Providence. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Providence Firefighters Association.

Mrs. Coleman was a communicant of the Cathedral SS. Peter and Paul.

She leaves a son, James H. Coleman III of Corona del Mar, Calif.; three daughters, Joyce M. Pellerin of Livonia, Mich., Gayle J. Smail of Narragansett, and Jill P. Coleman of Providence, with whom she lived; two sisters, Margaret E. Richard of Providence and Winifred J. Tracy of Lake Worth, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late James F. McManus.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 8:45 a.m. from the Russel J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, Cathedral Square. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.

MURIEL K. STERNAU - Providence

MURIEL K. STERNAU, 78, of Edina, Minn., formerly of Barnes Street, Providence, who died June 5 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Wayzata, Minn., will have a graveside service today at 11 a.m. in Sinai Memorial Park, 100 Harrison Ave., Warwick.

PAUL M. SHERWOOD - Providence

PAUL M. SHERWOOD, M.D., 82, formerly of Seneca Road, West Hartford, Conn., a former internist and psychiatrist, died Sunday at St. Mary Home in West Hartford. He was the husband of Florence (Scoler) Sherwood.

Born in New Britain, Conn., he was the son of the late Menas and Sonia Chernoff.

Dr. Sherwood was a 1937 graduate of the University of Connecticut and a 1941 graduate of Boston University School of Medicine.

During World War II, he was chief of medicine at the Air Force Hospital in Boca Raton, Fla.

After 20 years of practice as an internist, Dr. Sherwood changed careers to become a psychiatrist. He worked at the Institute of Living and maintained a private practice in Hartford, Conn.

Dr. Sherwood was a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Psychiatric Association.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Marjorie S. Freeman of Trumbull, Conn., and Suzanne Cane of Providence; and three grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held today at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Ave., Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.

ELEANOR CARDULLO - Providence

ELEANOR CARDULLO, 90, formerly of 30 Linton St., manager of the former Lobel's Childrens Store in Providence for 30 years, retiring in 1960, died Sunday at Golden Crest Nursing Center in North Providence. She was the widow of Anthony Cardullo.

A lifelong Providence resident, she was a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Elenora (DeCesare) DeNicola. She was a 30-year volunteer at the John F. Kennedy School and Meeting Street School, both in Providence. She was a volunteer in the Medical Records Department of Roger Williams Medical Center.

She leaves several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Stanley, Anthony and Albert DeNicola.

The funeral and burial will be private.

FLORENCE B. ARKUS - Rehoboth

FLORENCE B. ARKUS, 75, of Chicago, Ill., an office manager for Anawan Associates in Rehoboth, Mass., for many years before retiring, died June 4 at the home of her daughter, Janet Meyer in Arlington Heights, Ill. She was the wife of the late Raymond Arkus.

Born in Chicago, a daughter of the late Frank and Effie (Lauer) Boule, she had lived in Rehoboth and Attleboro for 11 years before moving back to Chicago.

Besides her daughter, she leaves another daughter, Donna Berg of Wickford; a son, Raymond Arkus Jr. of Honolulu, Hawaii; two sisters, Lucille Mattran in Florida and Grace Hackl in Arizona; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced.

CONSEPTOR "CONNIE" FURTADO - Seekonk

CONSEPTOR "CONNIE" FURTADO, 85, of 301 Miller St., a cook at Eileen Darling's Restaurant for 10 years, retiring 30 years ago, died Sunday at Hattie Ide Chaffee Home, East Providence. She was the widow of Joseph Furtado Sr.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John and Stella (Oliveira) Sears, she had lived in Seekonk for 70 years.

Mrs. Furtado was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

She had also worked at the former Mason Can Company, formerly of East Providence.

She leaves two daughters, Mary Freitas and Shirley Medeiros, both of Seekonk; a son, Joseph Furtado Jr. of East Providence; two brothers, John Sears of Riverside and Frank Sears of Seekonk; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Taunton Avenue, Seekonk. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.

DARLENE E. HAGGERTY - Warwick

DARLENE E. HAGGERTY, 70, of Church Avenue, an employee of West Bay Manor for several years, died Sunday at Rhode Island Hospital.

Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Manuel and Edith F. (Delmontex) Lema, she had lived in Warwick for 37 years. Mrs. Haggerty had previously worked for the former Bulova Watch Co., Providence, for several years. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

She leaves a son, Dean D. Haggerty of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a brother, Charles M. Lema of Kennebunk, Maine; and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the Peter J. Barrett Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave., with a Requiem Eucharist at 10 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Rd. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Johnston.

JOSEPH "JOE" Del CARPINI - Warwick

JOSEPH "JOE" Del CARPINI, 79, of Betsy Williams Drive, a heat treater for the former Imperial Knife Co., Providence, for 35 years before retiring in 1984, died yesterday at Warwick Health Center. He was the husband of Rachel H. (Barnes) Del Carpini.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Antonio and Concetta (Izzo) Delli Carpini, he had lived in Warwick for 47 years.

Mr. Del Carpini was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Robert J. Del Carpini and Richard A. Del Carpini, both of Warwick; three sisters, Anna Del Carpini, Eleanor Ritoli and Mae Capuano, all of Providence; and four grandsons. He was a brother of the late Domenic Del Carpini, Mary Verdi and Netta Brosco.

The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Peter J. Barrett Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave. Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.

MARGARET ELIZABETH WHEELER, 97, of 453 Transit St., who died Sunday at Landmark Medical Center, will have a funeral tomorrow at 9 a.m. from the Kilcline Funeral Home, 304 North Main St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles Church, North Main Street. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery in Blackstone, Mass.

NADINE E. SPARKS, 72, of Branch Avenue, died Saturday in the Rosewood Manor in Providence. She was the widow of Lloyd Sparks.

Born in Arkansas City, Kansas, a daughter of the late Peter and Sarah E. (Anderson) Kahler, she had lived in Providence for several months, previously living in Fort Smith, Ark.

She leaves a son, Scott R. Demaree of Bryan, Texas; a daughter, Suzanne E. Warme of Cumberland; a sister, Mary Rinchart of Claremont, Calif.; and a grandson.

The funeral will be private.

JOSEPHINE J. CHARVES - East Providence

JOSEPHINE J. CHARVES, 73, of Cottonwood Court, Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of East Providence, a secretary for the Providence Journal Co. and Travelers Insurance Co. for many years before retiring, died June 5 at home.

Born in East Providence, a daughter of the late Manuel M. and Anna (Raposa) Charves, she moved to Florida six years ago.

Miss Charves was a professed member of the Third Order of Carmelites, and was known as Sister Therese Anne, TOC.

She leaves a brother, Everett Charves of Palm Coast; and two sisters, Irene Nitterauer of Palm Coast, and Evelyn Cuomo of East Providence. She was a sister of the late Mary Costa, Helen Bernhard, Ann Lawrence, and Manuel, Joseph, John and Edward Charves.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street. Burial will be in Mount St. Mary Cemetery in Pawtucket.
