Charles and Arlette Tyson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 25, 2003.

They were married at the United Methodist Church in Bel-air, Md., by the Rev. G.G. Whitehurst.

Their children gave the couple a surprise, one-week trip to Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tenn.

Charles is the son of the late Charles and Estella Tyson. He works for the County of York.

Arlette is the daughter of the late Frank and Gladys Reisinger. She is retired from the County of York.

They have three children: John of Centerville, Va.; Kathy Pendergast of York; and Scott of Red Lion.

They have five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Evans
David and Janet Evans of York celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 27, 2003.

They were married at Zion United Methodist Church in East Prospect by the Rev. Daniel Smeltzer, now deceased.

A surprise dinner party, given by their three daughters, was held June 22 at Canadochly Valley Recreation Center in East Prospect.

David is the son of the late George and Marie Evans. He is a farmer.

Janet is the daughter of the late Robert and Cora Gilbert. She is a retired nurse from Columbia Hospital.

They have three daughters: Vicki McFarland, Chris Gipe and Corinne Kramer, all of York.

They have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Wida
Shirley and George Wida Jr. of Glen Rock celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Oct. 24, 2003.

A dinner party, given by their children, was held Oct. 25 at Chapps at the Hill restaurant in York.

The Rev. John McNulty performed the ceremony at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Enola.

George is retired from Flemmings Inc.

Shirley is retired from AMP.

They have four children: Catherine Leas and Roxanne Fabie, both of York; and Denise and George III, both of Glen Rock.

They have nine grandchildren.

Hall
Eleanor and Richard Hall of Stewartstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 26, 2003.

They were married in Philadelphia.

The couple took a cruise to the Caribbean. A surprise dinner-dance, given by their family, was held at the Copperbeach-Red Lion Country Club in Red Lion.

Richard is retired from York City schools.

Eleanor is retired from South Eastern School District.

They have two children: Mark of Airville and Eric of Silver Spring, Md.

They have four grandchildren.

Godfrey
David and Ruth Godfrey of York celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 15, 2003.

They were married at New Fairview Church of the Brethren by the Rev. Jacob Miller, now deceased.

A surprise open house, given by their children, was held Nov. 9 at the New Fairview Church of the Brethren social hall.

David is the son of the late Mary Godfrey McWilliams and the late Paul Godfrey.

Ruth is the daughter of the late Ada and Jacob Miller.

Both are retired from Central and Eastern Markets.

They have three children: Janice Kern of Spring Grove, and Jeanne Stremmel and Joanne, both of York.

They have six grandchildren.

Doll
Jim and Mary Ellen Doll of York celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Nov. 14, 2003.

They were married in Westminster, Md.

A surprise brunch, given by their daughters, was held Nov. 9 at the Holiday Inn Holidome.

Jim is the son of the late Stella and Walton Doll. He is retired from Precision Components.

Mary Ellen is the daughter of the late Mary and Ras Keeney. She is retired from Voith Hydro.

They have two children: Kim Bollinger and Kathy Becker, both of York.

They have three grandchildren.

Holtzapple
Marlyn “Curly” and Dorothy Holtzapple of Spring Grove celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 20, 2003.

They were married at St Stephen’s Lutheran Church in West York.

A drop-in party, given by their children, was held Dec. 21 at Friendship Community Church in Dover.

Curly is retired from York County government.

They have two children: Jim and Sharon, both of Red Lion.

They have two grandchildren.

Godfrey
Sandra and Wilbert Godfrey Jr. of 156 Edgewood Road, York, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 26, 2003.

They were married at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in York by the Rev. I.C. Bailey, now deceased.

A dinner party, given by their family, was held Jan. 3 at their son’s home in York.

Wilbert is the son of Josephine and Wilbert Godfrey Sr. of Auburndale, Fla., and the late Anna Godfrey. He is retired from Teamsters Local 776.

Sandra is the daughter of the late Chester and Mary Sechrist.

They have three children: Melissa Schneider and Rick, both of York, and Sherri Eckman, now deceased.

They have seven grandchildren.
