Olive M. Williams

April 25, 1999

Olive M. Williams, 88, of Gnadenhutten, Ohio, died Sunday in Union Hospital, Dover, Ohio, following a short illness.

She was born Sept. 10, 1910, at Newport (Mill Township), a daughter of the late Fred U. and Katherine (Beitler) Welch.

A lifelong resident of the Gnadenhutten area, she was a member of the Gnadenhutten Moravian Church and the Afternoon Circle. She was a past president of the Women's Fellowship and was the first woman elder in the church. She was a member of the Buckeye Senior Citizens of Gnadenhutten. She was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School Class of 1928.

She had worked as a cook for the Tuscarawas County Home, Twin City Hospital, Gnadenhutten High School and, with her husband, owned and operated the Wigwam Restaurant in Gnadenhutten for several years. Olive then moved to Marietta, Ohio, and worked as a house mother at Marietta College for four years. She loved to cook, bake and do gardening.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jack (Barbara) Daniels of Gnadenhutten, Ohio; two sons , Roy and Rebecca Williams of Gnadenhutten and Ray and Judy Williams of Stroudsburg; five grandchildren: Mark Williams of North Canton, Ohio, Heidi and Heather Williams of Gnadenhutten, and Connor and Meredith Williams of Stroudsburg; one sister, Anne Hawkens of Portland, Ore.; one brother, Robert Welch of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

On Oct. 12, 1939, she was married to Alvin Williams, who preceded her in death on March 5, 1954. Also preceding her in death were three sisters : Mary Brazelton, Bess Laursen and Harriet Welch.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Gnadenhutten Moravian Church at Gnadenhutten, Ohio, with Rev. David D. Danneberger officiating. Burial will be in Gnadenhutten Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Gowins Funeral Home at Gnadenhutten.

The family requests that any memorials be made to the Gnadenhutten Moravian Church Kitchen Fund.

Evelyn Grace Shafer

April 26, 1999

Evelyn Grace Shafer, 93, formerly of Brodhead Street, Easton, died Monday, April 26, in Manor Care Nursing Home, Easton.

Born on September 21, 1905 in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Attorney William A. and Ella May (Isett) Shafer and had lived in Easton since 1926. A graduate of Stroudsburg High School, and East Stroudsburg Normal School (now East Stroudsburg University) where she was salutatorian of her graduating class of 1926, she taught in the Easton Public School District for 41 years, retiring in 1967. She was an Episcopalian.

She is survived by nine nieces and nephews including G. Garrison Shafer III of Stroudsburg. She was preceded in death by three brothers , George G. Shafer, W. Arthur Shafer and the Rev. Frederick Q. Shafer; and one sister, Mary C. Shafer.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 26, in the Stroudsburg Cemetery with Rev. William A. Shafer officiating.

David Charles Green

April 24, 1999

Christian Aaron Green, 17, and brother, David Charles Green, 13, of Layton Utah and both formerly of Stroudsburg, died Saturday from injuries in an automobile/tractor trailer accident in Cameron, Arizona. They were the children of Douglas Allen Green of Layton, Utah and formerly of Stroudsburg and Eleanor (Sinkler) Green of Langhorne.

Christian was born on June 11, 1983 in East Stroudsburg and moved to Utah a year ago. He was a senior in high school and had worked every summer with his uncle John on the Delaware River five-day canoe trips. He was active in Boy Scouts and loved family and nature.

David was born on November 12, 1987 in East Stroudsburg and moved to Utah a year ago. He was an eighth grade student and played basketball, being an avid Utah Jazz fan, attending several games. He, like his brother, was active in Boy Scouts. David also loved his family and nature and cherished his special teddy bear, "Bob Marley," which was with him at the time of the accident.

In addition to his parents, they are survived by their grandmother, Jane Green of Stroudsburg; a brother, Douglas Allen Green Jr., a senior at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania ; two uncles, John Green of Delaware Water Gap and Bruce Green of Stroudsburg; two aunts; and several cousins.

They have both donated their organs and eyes, giving life and sight to others.

Memorial services will be held in the Presbyterian Church of the Mountain, Delaware Water Gap, with the Rev. Karen Nickels officiating at a date and time to be announced by the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg.

Harold A. Welfly

April 24, 1999

Harold A. Welfly, 82, of West White land Township, Chester County, formerly of Wyomissing, died Saturday, April 24, in Mercy Suburban Hospital, Norristown, Montgomery County. He was the husband of the late Ruth M. (Sivits) Welfly, who died January 29, 1998.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late John J. Welfly and Anna Martene (Carter) Welfly Williams.

Welfly owned and operated the former Welfly Homes Inc., Reading, where he was involved in real estate and home contracting until it closed in 1971.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Welfly was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Mount Penn.

Surviving is one daughter, Linda S. (Welfly) Williamson, West White land Township and one grandson.

Graveside services will be private at the Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton. Bean Funeral Home Inc., Shillington is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimers Association, Southern PA Chapter, 325 Chestnut St., Philadelphia, Pa. 19106.

April 24, 1999

Kevin J. Mosner, 20, of Long Pond passed away at home, on Saturday, April 24. He was the son of Linda Moroz Higgs and step-son of Kirk Higgs of Long Pond; and the grandson of Janet Moroz of Great Meadows, N.J.

He was born in Hackettstown, N.J. He attended and graduated from Pocono Mountain Senior High School, class of 1998. He was employed at Pocono Manor.

Surviving in addition to his parents and grandmother are, one sister Lisa Mosner Star of Long Pond, wife of Peter; one nephew, Nicholas Star of Long Pond; several aunts and uncles, Gail and Frank McMahan, Linda and Gary Moroz, and Walter Moroz, all of Great Meadows; and several cousins, Diana and Michael McMahan, Heather Moroz, Kelly Canfield, and Donna and Brad Martka, all of Great Meadows.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, at James M. Hook & Co. Funeral Directors, 35 Sterling Road, Mount Pocono.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, at the Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Great Meadows, with Rev. Father officiating. A private interment will follow.

Robert W. Baehr

April 25, 1999

Robert W. Baehr, 55, of East Stroudsburg, died on Sunday, April 25, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the husband of Elizabeth A. (Smoke) Baehr, at home. They had celebrated 27 years of marriage.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Richard and Edith (Meyer) Baehr. He had been a resident of Monroe County for most of his lifetime. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during in Vietnam.

He was employed by Cooper Industries of East Stroudsburg as a forge operator for the past 22 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 1106 of Stroudsburg and a member of the Eagles' Pool League. He also played softball for the Cooper Industries Team.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters , Michelle Piccirilli and her husband Frank of Binghamton, N.Y. and Melissa Rae Baehr at home; a son, Kristopher Robert Baehr and his wife Melanie of Bangor; a brother, Rudolph Baehr and his wife Janice of Showhomish, Wash.; stepmother, Frieda Baehr of Ordell, N.J.; a granddaughter, Maurianna Piccirilli of Binghamton; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29, in the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, 27 Washington Street, East Stroudsburg.

Cremation will take place in the Arlington Crematory, White hall Township. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 at the funeral home.

Frederick J. Galozzo

April 26, 1999

Frederick (Freddy) J. Galozzo, 79, of Stroudsburg, died Monday, April 26, at his home. He was the husband of Mildred S. (Wydra) Galozzo, to whom he was married for 52 years.

Born in Stroudsburg, he was the son of the late Nunzio and Mary C. (Panza) Galozzo. He was a life-long resident of the Stroudsburg area. He owned and operated Fred's Barber Shop of North Eighth Street in Stroudsburg, from 1955 until 1982, when he became semi-retired. From 1982 until his retirement in 1997, he worked part-time for three days a week at the barber shop.

He was a member of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church of Stroudsburg where he served as an usher at the 7 a.m. Mass for many years. He was a member of the Father Butler Council #4084, East Stroudsburg; the 4th degree Assembly #980; the Italian Mutual Benefit Association; the Fraternal Order of Eagles #319, Stroudsburg; the Hair and National Barbers Association; and the V.F.W. Post 2540, East Stroudsburg.

He served in the Army during World War II, both in England and France.

In addition to his wife, Mildred, he is survived by two daughters , Kathryn M. Jennings of Reading, and Emily A. Clark of Webster, N.Y.; two sisters , Rose Galozzo and Millie Woodrow both of Stroudsburg; four grandchildren, Nicholas Clark and Marissa Clark both of Webster and Eric Jennings and Andrea Jennings both of Reading; and 5 nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 30, from St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Stroudsburg, with the Rev. Carmen J. Perry as celebrant. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven section of Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg.

Alma M. Webb

April 21, 1999

Alma M. Webb, 94, of Delaware Water Gap, died Wednesday evening, April 21, in Stroud Manor Nursing Home, East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Franklin V. Webb who died in 1993.

Born on July 6, 1904, in Rusk County, Texas , she was the daughter of the late Willie E. Milstead and Nellie Belle Bradbury and had lived in the area since 1965, moving here from New York City. A graduate of Juilliard School of Music in New York, she was a professional opera singer for many years having performed in Madame Butterfly in the United States and Japan; sung with the ABC Symphony in New York City as well as singing the Brahms Requiem. She also sung three solo performances one Easter , two in New York and one in New Jersey. She retired as an executive from Texaco after twenty year of service.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Mountain, Delaware Water Gap where she sung in the choir. She was also an avid golfer.

She is survived by a niece, Dr. Gay Carol Parnel of LaJolla, Calif,; three grandnieces and her extended family including the Marki family of Delaware Water Gap.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, May 16, at 11:15 a.m. following the regular 10 a.m. worship service in the Presbyterian Church of the Mountain, Delaware Water Gap, with Rev. Karen Nickels officiating.

Lillian E. Guinan

April 26, 1999

Lillian E. Guinan, 87, of Staten Island, N.Y., and formerly of Gilbert, died Monday in the Clove Lake Nursing Home, Staten Island, N.Y.

She was the wife of the late George W. Guinan III.

Born in England, she was a daughter of the late William and Emily (Lepper) Jones.

She had been a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert.

She is survived by a son, George W. Guinan IV of New Hyde Park, Long Island, N.Y.; a daughter, Florence Reinhardt of Tobyhanna; nine grandchildren including Flo Hunt of Queensbury, N.Y. and Deborah Ballew of Tobyhanna, whom she and her husband had raised; 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandson. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha L. Taylor and by a son, William Guinan.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday from Salem United Church of Christ in Gilbert with the Rev. Michael Eckroth officiating. Burial will be in Gilbert Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. from the Kresge Funeral Home, Route 209, Brodheadsville.

April 26, 1999

W. Scott Frankenburger, 45, of East Stroudsburg died Monday in New York Hospital, New York City, N.Y. He was the husband of Tina L. (Rauch) Frankenburger, at home.

Born on November 14, 1953, in Clearfield, Pa., he was the son of Robert Frankenburger of Renovo and the late Mildred (Freeman) Kenworthy and had lived in the area since 1988 moving here from Elizabethtown, Pa. He was superintendent of the Parktowne and Green Valley Apartments in East Stroudsburg since 1988.

He was a member of the Renovo United Methodist; the B.P.O. Elks Club in Renovo; the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1106, Stroudsburg; and the National Youth Sports Coaches Assoc. He was very active with and coached with the East Stroudsburg Youth Association's Football and T-Ball.

In addition to his wife and Father , he is survived by his stepfather, Art Kenworthy of Renovo; twin children, Andrea Leigh Frankenburger and Jeffrey Scott Frankenburger of East Stroudsburg; two brothers , Jerry Frankenburger of Mill Creek and Robert Frankenburger of Renovo; a sister, Jeanne Werts of Renovo and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth Street, Renovo with the Rev. Robert Trego officiating. Burial will follow in the North Bend Cemetery, Renovo.

There will be a viewing on Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the William H. Clark Funeral Home, 1003 Main Street, Stroudsburg, and on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the Maxwell Funeral Home in Renovo.

A Memorial Prayer Service will be held on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg.
