IRVING ZANKEL

Irving Zankel, 77, of Joseph Drive in Kingston died Monday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in New York, he was a son of the late Louis and Sadie (Boltuch) Zankel.
Before retiring in 1989, he was the distribution manager at Topps Chewing Gum in Duryea.
He was a member of Temple B'nai B'rith in Kingston, the Jewish Community Center and the center Men's Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosaline (Baraschiek) Zankel.
Surviving are his son, Attorney Brett P., Harrisburg; twin sister, Hilda Lieberman, Rockville Center, N.Y.; brother, Charles, Coconut Creek, Fla.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. this evening at the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Michael L. Joseph, of Temple B'nai B'rith, officiating.
Interment will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Mount Lebanon Cemetery in New York.
Shiva will be observed from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at 266 Joseph Drive, Kingston.
VERNA ZAREMSKI
Verna Zaremski, 82, a resident of Scott Street in the East End section of Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after she was stricken ill earlier in her home.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Caroline Matiska Smolenyak.
She was a graduate of Coughlin High School in Wilkes-Barre, and resided in the North End section of Wilkes-Barre for most of her life.
She was employed in various local garment factories for over 20 years, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of Sacred Heart/St. John the Evangelist Parish Community and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, both in Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Zaremski; grandson, Douglas E. Collmier; and 10 brothers and sisters .
Surviving are her daughter, Carole Collmier, Wilkes-Barre; sons , Joseph Zaremski, Havertown; Eugene Zaremski, Inkerman, Jenkins Township; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church in Wilkes-Barre.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Byzantine Rite Catholic Cemetery in Dallas.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
There will be a Christian Wake Service conducted Monday, with the Rev. Joseph DeVizia, permanent deacon, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sacred Heart/St. John the Evangelist Parish Community, 601 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, 18705, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Zawadzki, Chester
March 6, 2000
Chester C. Zawadzki, of Marcy Road, Tunkhannock, died Monday in the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., he was the son of the late Peter and Josephine (Stanowski) Zawadzki. He resided in Philadelphia for many years before moving to Tunkhannock. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He owned and operated a service station in Delaware for many years before retiring.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years, the former Joanne Miller; sons , Stanley S., Norwood, and Steven M., Wyoming; daughter, Samantha J., Olyphant; and three grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Metcalfe & Shaver Funeral Home, Inc., Wyoming. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association of Luzerne County Chapter, 63 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.
Helen Zebrowski

Helen S. Zebrowski, of Forty Fort, died Thursday in Manorcare Health Services, Kingston.
Born in Nanticoke, she was daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Ann Tyburski Stryjak.
She was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and Bloomsburg University.
She was employed in the clerical department at Fitzsimmons Hospital, Denver, during World War II, and prior to retiring she was employed as an elementary teacher in the Nanticoke, Forty Fort and Wyoming Valley West school districts.
She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin; the National Retired Teacher's Association, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Polish National Alliance.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sr., on Aug. 3, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Edward J. Jr., Laflin; brother, Edward, Nanticoke; two grandchildren; Edward L. and Matthew G.; and one nephew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Maria Goretti Church.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township, at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.

Zenobi, Linda
March 7, 2000
Linda (Stella) Zenobi, of Second Street, West Pittston, died Tuesday at Highland Manor, Exeter.
Born in Gualdo Tadino, near Perugia, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Guilio and Angeline (Fueretti) Stella. She came to America at an early age with her mother and attended Pittston Township schools. She worked as a welder at the Dravo Ship Yards for the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked for 20 years in the area garment industry. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, West Pittston; the Big Band Society; and Indian Lake Sportsman's Club.
Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Gino, at home; sons , attorney Eugene Zenobi, Miami; and Thomas Zenobi, Perkasie; brothers , Pacifico "Joe" Stella, Pittston Township; and Guilius Stella, Shavertown.
She was preceded in death by her brothers , Frank.
Funeral services will be 9 p.m. Friday from the Adonizio Funeral Home, Inc., 251 William St., Pittston. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will be in Italian Independent Cemetery, West Wyoming. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
HELEN ZIENOWICZ
Helen M. (Mishkel) Zienowicz, of Wyoming Valley Manor Personal Care and Retirement Center, and formerly of Essex Lane, Wilkes-Barre, died Monday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born Jan. 30, 1918, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Ignatz and Caroline Garlan Mishkel.
She attended Wilkes-Barre city schools.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her brothers , Vincent, Francis and Albert; sisters , Stella Carr, Martha Bacchino, Mary Angel, Ruth Arcaro, Grace Zobaski, Florence Mishkel and Theresa Monti.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Church of the Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming.

Zinn, Ruth
March 3, 2000
Ruth B. (Jones) Zinn, 86, of Main Street, Avoca, and formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at her home.
Born Nov. 23, 1913, in Avoca, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Boase) Jones. She was a graduate of Avoca High School and attended Wyoming Seminary Business School. She worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., Wilkes-Barre, for 45 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Zinn; and brother, Edward Jones.
Surviving are nephews, Edward, Robert and Thomas Jones.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 728 Main St., Avoca, with the Rev. Susan Rogge, of First United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Beth Jones, his niece in-law, officiating. Interment will be in Pittston Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
