Stanley Wengyn

Stanley Wengyn, 71, of Sively Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.
Born in Plymouth, where he resided most of his life, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary Krufka Wengrzyn.
He was a graduate of Plymouth High School and Penn State Electronic School in 1943.
He served with the Japanese Occupational Forces in World War II.
Before he retired, he was employed by the Grissis Air Force Base, Rome, N.Y.
He was a member of St. Mary's Nativity Church, Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Wengyn.
Surviving are brothers , Frank Wengen, Wilkes-Barre; Walter, Hanover Township; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday from Piszczek Funeral Home, 70 E. Main St., Plymouth, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Nativity Church, Plymouth.
Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Plymouth Township.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.
CONNIE WERNER

Connie Ann Werner, 47, of West Mount Airy Road in Shavertown died Wednesday at her home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Kingston, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Anita (Stravinsky) Steinberg. She was a 1969 graduate of Kingston High School and had resided in Shavertown for the past 24 years.
She had been employed by Hechinger Home Project Center in Wilkes Barre. She previously owned and operated Four Paws Pet Boutique in Wilkes-Barre.
She was a member of St. Therese's Church in Shavertown.
Surviving are her husband of 26 years, Stephen E.; sons Eric, Pittsburgh; and Robert, at home; daughter, Stephanie, at home; brother, Ronald Steinberg, Lofton, S.C.; and sister, Mary Patton, Luzerne.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Therese's Church. Internment will be in Memorial Shrine Park in the Carverton section of Kingston Township.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

CARL WESNESKI
Carl A. Wesneski, former director of Safety Services for the Scranton chapter of the American Red Cross, 93, died Friday following a brief illness.
Born in North Scranton, he was the son of the late Polish emigrants, Anthony Wesneski and Lottie Klimaszewski.
He attended school in Dickson City.
As a young man he worked as an anthracite coal miner, followed by service as a medical assistant with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
In 1945 he graduated from the University of Scranton, where he served as trainer of the football team during his freshman and sophomore years. During World War II, he served as Athletic Director of the Fort Benning, Ga., and the Harrisburg United Service Organization (USO) Clubs, providing support to military personnel.
From 1946 to 1976, he served as Director of Safety Services of the Scranton Red Cross Chapter, where he instructed thousands of Lackawanna County children and adults in swimming, lifesaving, boating, first aid, and instructor training. For over 20 years he was on the faculty of the National Red Cross Aquatic Schools and received the prestigious Commodore Longfellow Award. He also coordinated the Northeast Blood Program and provided home service and disaster relief support.
In 1955, he was cited for heroism in rescuing two policemen who were swept into the current of the Roaring Brook in South Scranton. For this feat, he was hosted on national television on the Jack Smith Show.
His long-term community service includes appointment by Governor William Scranton to the Board of Governors of the State Hospital, the Board of Governors of the Catholic Youth Center, the University of Scranton's Purple Club, the United Way, the Mid-Atlantic Amateur Athletic Union, and the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Amateur Association. In 1988 he was also recognized by the Red Cross for 59 years of volunteer community service.
He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Visitation Church of Dickson City, a charter member of the Ushers' Organization and the Holy Name Society.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John, and sisters , Lucile Carvel and Ann Menetrez.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Agnes Myskowski Wesneski; sons , Carl Wesneski, Crofton, Md.; Anthony, Newburgh, N.Y.; Richard and Paul, both of Dickson City; daughter, Barbara Bentov, Boca Raton, Fla.; sister, Charlotte Krasutsky, Red Bank, N.J.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Mazur Funeral Home in Dickson City.
There will be a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Visitation Church.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
ELIZABETH WIEDER
Elizabeth Wieder, 90, of Kidder Township and White Haven died Tuesday at her home.
Born in Lehighton, she was the daughter of the late Alford and Emma Serfass Frantz.
She lived most of her life in the White Haven area.
She taught school in the Palmerton and Weatherly areas for 28 years until retiring.
She was a member of the state and Carbon County Retired Public School Employees associations.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in White Haven, where she was active in parish organizations for many years. She was also a member of White Haven Senior Citizens, where she served as president, secretary and a committee chairperson for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Wieder, in 1953.
Surviving are her son, William Wieder, and daughter, Marjorie Parker, both of White Haven; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Michele Kaufman officiating.
Interment will be in Gnaden-Huetron Cemetery in Lehighton.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services Friday.

MARY WIERNUSZ

Mary Wiernusz, 84, of ManorCare Health Services in Kingston, formerly of Nanticoke, died Tuesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late George and Helen (Turkewicz) Bieda. She was a lifelong resident of Nanticoke.
She was employed by Nanticoke State Hospital as a custodian for approximately 20 years.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Nanticoke, and the parish Women's Catholic Council. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Post 350 in Nanticoke.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Joseph, and sister, Eleanor Pakosh.
Surviving are her son, Edward, Nanticoke; daughters , Theresa Bezdziecki and Patricia Denoy, both of Nanticoke; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Bieda, Nanticoke; sisters , Frances Michalski, Nanticoke; and Viola Michiewicz and Helen Kaminski, both of Allentown; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Grontkowski Funeral Home, P.C. 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery in Nanticoke.

Jane E. Wildoner, 63, of Swamp Road, Hunlock Creek, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born May 28, 1936, in Nanticoke, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Lydia (Lamoreaux) Evarts. She was a member of the Brethren in Christ Church, Hunlock Creek, where she was a treasurer and youth leader and taught Sunday school.
Surviving are her husband, John; daughters , Sally Simko, Hunlock Creek; and Amy Kasa, Nanticoke; sons , John, Sweet Valley; Shane and Shawn, both of Hunlock Creek; eight grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home, Inc., Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. Daniel Longmore officiating. WILLIAMS, JAMES

James F. Williams, 91, of Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at Hampton House in Hanover Township, where he had been a guest.
Born May 16, 1908, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a son of the late Henry J. and Anna (Simpson) Williams.
He was educated in York public schools.
He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1929 and served three years aboard the destroyer USS McDougal and the cutter USS Acushnet. In 1943, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater during World War II.
Before his retirement, he was an auto and engine mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Nolan Williams.
Surviving is his foster daughter, Elizabeth Bundick, of Ocala, Fla.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Long Island National Cemetery in the Pine Lawn section of Long Island, N.Y. Interment will follow.
Arrangements are by McLaughlin Funeral Service.
Williams, William

William Williams, of Hillside Avenue, Edwardsville, died Saturday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where he was a patient for the past three weeks.
Born April 9, 1938, in Edwardsville, he was the son of the late William and Lenora Pearce Williams. He was a graduate of Edwardsville High School, class of 1955, and a lifelong resident of Edwardsville. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was last employed by Leslie Fay. He was a member of Kingston American Legion Post 395.
Surviving are long time companion, Rose Good, with whom he resided; sisters , Shirley Kulakowski, Kenner, La.; Lenore Dickson, Kingston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Hugh Jones Funeral Home, Kingston, with the Rev. James Quinn officiating. Interment will be in Forty Fort Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Catherine (Cass) Williams, 86, of Wilmington, Del., formerly of West Shawnee Avenue, Plymouth, died Sunday at the Manor Care Nursing Center, Wilmington, Del.

Williams, Mildred

Mildred Williams, a former resident of the Lee Park section of Hanover Township, died Saturday at the Hampton House, Hanover Township.
Born March 22, 1903, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Morgan and Mary Williams. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and a member of St. Aloysius Senior Citizens.
She was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church, Lee Park, where she served as dinner chairman, member of the Welsh cookie baking group and one of the oldest members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gomer Williams; and daughter, Lois Vanhorman.
Surviving are her son, Robert, Lee Park; sister, Dorothy Huntzinger, Stroudsburg; and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the Frederick & Snowdon Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Robert Boyar, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. today.
