SOPHIE WALLACE
Sophie (Kiwak) Wallace died Tuesday in Green Acres Nursing Home in Gettysburg.
Born and educated in Swoyersville, she was a daughter of the late Louis and Mary (Hahn) Kiwak.
She spent the majority of her life in the Gettysburg area and was active in her husband's automotive business.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and brothers , Joseph, Frank, Louis and Frederick.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia Guise, and son, Thomas, both of the Gettysburg area; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers , Lawrence, Forty Fort; Chester, Swoyersville; and sisters , Ann Annese, Middletown, N.Y.; Marie George, Swoyersville; Florence Reilly, Wyoming; and Rosalie Brady Parsons, Dallas.
A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will be Monday in the Gettysburg area.
WALSH, JEANNE
October 27, 1999
Jeanne M. Walsh, 56, of River Road in the Port Blanchard section of Jenkins Township, died Wednesday in the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, where she was admitted Tuesday.
She had been seriously ill since January, and had been a guest at Lakeside Manor at Harvey's Lake for several months.
Born Aug. 25, 1943, in Wilkes-Barre she was a daughter of the late John and Albina (Skerel) Gaydos. She resided in Port Blanchard for the past 36 years and formerly resided in Swoyersville.
She attended Swoyersville schools and graduated from Swoyersville High School in 1961.
She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Church in Plains Township.
Surviving are her husband, Ronald Walsh Sr., with whom she celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary May 16; son, Ronald, Jr., Nuangola; daughter, Chrissy Alaimo, Wilkes-Barre; one grandson; brothers , John Gaydos Jr., Little Rock, Ark.; and David Gaydos, Swoyersville; sisters , Elaine Maccaro and Sharon Balent, both of Wyoming, Pa.; and Diane Cook, Wilkes-Barre; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Joseph L. Wroblewski Funeral Home, 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson St., Plains Township. The Rev. Joseph Greskiewicz will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Swoyersville.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
WARNER, NANCY
July 9, 1999
Nancy Irene Warner, 37, of Valley View Terrace died Friday at Penn State Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township after a lengthy illness.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of Nancy M. (Collicott) Dana, of Hunlock Creek, and the late Edward H. Warner. She was a graduate of West Side Vocational Technical School.
She attended Albright United Methodist Church in Wilkes-Barre. She was a former member of Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, Calif., where she lived for 10 years before moving back to the Wyoming Valley in 1996.
Surviving, in addition to her mother , are her stepfather, Richard A. Dana, Hunlock Creek; brothers , Edward H., Jr., David J. and Paul R. Warner, all of Hunlock Creek; sister, Mary L. Warner, Wilkes-Barre; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service Monday at 2 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hanover Township. There will be no procession from the funeral home.

WASKIEWICZ, ANNA
October 28, 1999
Anna Waskiewicz, 84, of Honey Pot Street in the Honey Pot section of Nanticoke, died Thursday at Wilkes-Barre Mercy Hospital.
Born June 13, 1915, in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Sophie (Bratek) Kazinski.
She was a graduate of Plymouth High School.
She was employed for many years in the home and offices of Dr. and Mrs. Barney A. Stegura.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Nanticoke and the Plymouth Senior Citizens Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clem; and a sister Josie.
Surviving are sisters , Helen Zbick, Nanticoke; and Tessie Kennedy, Plymouth; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home, 614 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery in Newport Township.

WATERS, ROBERT

Robert W. Waters, 78, of Holland in Bucks County and Arrowhead Lake in Monroe County, formerly of Forty Fort, died Wednesday at ManorCare Health Services in Kingston.
Born in Forty Fort, he was a son of the late Thomas and Kathryn (Callahan) Waters.
He graduated from Forty Fort High School and earned his bachelor's degree in education from Wilkes University. Later, he received his master's degree from Temple University.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He was a guest at ManorCare since September 1998. He had resided in Holland for the past nine years, and had a summer home at Arrowhead Lake. He had previously resided at the George School in Newtown, Bucks County, for 30 years.
Before his retirement in 1999, he was employed as a school teacher at the George School, where he coached football, baseball and wrestling.
He was a member of St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church in Newtown.
He was preceded in death by his brothers , William, Joseph, Thomas and James; and sister, Elizabeth Crosby.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Jean McKernan; sons , Robert T., Colora, Md.; and Thomas W., Kutztown; sisters , Mary McGuire, Lee Park, Hanover Township; and Catherine Moran, Forty Fort; and brother, John "Jack" Waters, Glen Mill, Fla.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort. The Rev. Leo McKernan will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Name-St. Mary's Church in Swoyersville.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.

WATTS, LULA

Lula M. (Wertz) Watts, 83, formerly of the Woodcrest section of Berwick, died Friday at the Hazleton General Hospital, where she was a patient for the past week.
Born Nov. 4, 1915, in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Peter J. and Sallie Hess Kramer Wertz.
She moved to Fritzingertown Senior Living Community, Drums, three years ago and moved to St. Luke's Pavilion, Hazleton, one year ago.
She worked for Wise Potato Chip Co., Berwick, for more than 30 years, retiring in 1978. She formerly worked for the Mittleman Sewing Factory before World War II.
She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Berwick.
She was a former member of the Berwick Trail Blazers and the National Campers and Hunters Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Watts; brothers , Albert and Elmer Wertz; and sister, Mabel Cole Miller.
Surviving are her daughters , Darla Flick, Berwick; Cindy Ulanoski, RR 1, Drums; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday from St. Paul's United Methodist Church, corner of Orchard and Orange streets, Berwick, with the Rev. Fred J. Fields, her pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Robert Ludrowsky, of the Buffalo Run United Methodist Church, Bellefonte, assisting.
Interment will be in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.

WAVERKA, EDWARD

Edward Carl Waverka, of Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, died Sunday at Dorrance Manor, Kingston.
Born in Luzerne, he was the son of the late Charles and Agnes (Moreck) Waverka.
He was a graduate of Luzerne High School, class of 1942.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Before retiring he was the owner and operator of Waverka & Son Plumbing, Luzerne.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Luzerne, and was a past member of its Holy Name Society. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 396, Wyoming.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Regina Skrinak; and brother, John Waverka.
Surviving are his daughters , Mary Ann Finch, Harveys Lake; Barbara Kalish, Tunkhannock; Susan Williams, Exeter; sons , Mark Waverka, Catasauqua; Edward Waverka, Charlotte, N.C.; sisters , Ann Haggerty, Reading; Rosemary Long, Green Valley, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc., 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Luzerne, with the Rev. Robert Arnold officiating.
Interment will be private.

Gertrude (Kirshner) Weber, 81, of Beverly Hills, Calif., a former area resident, died Tuesday at her home.
Born in Plains Township, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Celia Kirshner. She was a graduate of Plains High School.
Surviving are her sons , Bruce, Sherman Oaks, Calif.; and Jay, Agoura Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren; and brothers , Maurice, Kalisten, Mo.; Meyer, Wooster, Mass.; and Sidney, West Palm Beach, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her brothers , Joseph and Irving Kirshner.
The funeral will be on Sunday at Mount Sinai Funeral Chapel, Los Angeles, with burial there. Funeral information was provided by the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, Wilkes-Barre.
