IDA PARKER MILES RICHARDS

Ida Parker Miles Richards, the wife of the late Ambassador Arthur L. Richards, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Redstone Highlands Health Care Center, Greensburg. She was 89. Born Dec. 6, 1910, in Washington , D.C., Mrs. Richards attended George Washington University. She worked on Capital Hill as a legal secretary for a Supreme Court Justice and took law courses at night. In 1934, Mrs. Richards married Herbert Richardson Miles, a naval officer. They had two sons and Herbert Miles died in 1947. Mrs. Richards married Arthur Lincoln Richards, a foreign service officer in 1948. They traveled extensively, living in Iran, Turkey, Ethiopia, and Switzerland. During these assignments, Mrs. Richards acted as the official hostess for U.S. Embassy functions and hosted diplomats from foreign missions and notable dignitaries, including the Shah of Iran and Haile Selassie, the Emperor of Ethiopia. She had the opportunity to dine and dance with the U.S. presidents from Eisenhower through Reagan. An advocate of educational reforms and health reforms, Mrs. Richards promoted these programs in each country to which she was assigned ambassador and Mrs. Richards endured rebellions and revolutions during their foreign assignments and survived to return to Washington , D.C. Mrs. Richards was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Chevy Chase, Md., and the Foreign Service Wives Association. In addition to her parents, John Ralph and Anne Murphy Parker, Mrs. Richards was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Miles; her sister, Lily Leigh; and her second husband, Arthur L. Richards. She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Richards Nurminen of Acme; and two sons , Herbert Miles Richards of Laurel, Md., and John Miles Richards of Springfield, Va. She leaves four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the LUTHER J. GRIMM FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Pleasant. A memorial service will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Church of God at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28, with Pastor Charles W. Yost officiating. Interment will be at the Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington , D.C. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial gift to the Alzheimer's Association, Laurel Mountains Chapter, 1011 Old Salem Road, Suite G1, Greensburg, PA 15601.

DOROTHY M. SMITH

Dorothy M. Smith, 81, of Greensburg, died Monday, April 24, 2000. She was born March 18, 1919, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Robert H. Jr. and Mildred Rohrbacher Maxwell. She was a member of F.O.E. Scottdale Ladies Auxiliary and a volunteer for the Food Share Program. Survived by daughters , Mildred A. Arnold of San Diego, Calif., and Alice DeBoo of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; sisters , Margaret Zink of Youngwood, Alice Trout of Hunker, and Mrs. Steve (Ruth) Karas of Youngwood; and brothers , John S. Maxwell and wife, Thelma, of Youngwood and Clifford P. Maxwell and wife, Virginia, of Wellsburg, W.Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Smith; and a brother, Robert H. Maxwell Jr. No visitation. A funeral service will be held at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood, Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Merritt Edner officiating.

JAMES G. WILSON

James G. Wilson, 84, of Saltsburg, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Indiana Area Hospital, Indiana, Pa. He was born June 18, 1915, in Saltsburg, a son of Robert M. and Alice C. Grant Wilson. He had lived in Saltsburg all of his life. He retired in 1980 from the University of Pittsburgh as a project supervisor and construction supervisor; and was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army 602 AAA Battalion. His life was one of love and service to his family, community and God. Also he was a member of Saltsburg Presbyterian Church in Saltsburg for over 63 years and an elder of the church; a member of the Saltsburg Town Council; Williamson Lodge F&AM #431, Saltsburg; Saltsburg Lion's Club; life member of Saltsburg Fire Department; and a member of the Carpenter's Union Local 0462 in Greensburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Herbert Wilson. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Grace Wilson; three sons , Charles B. McKee of Fort Collins, Colo., Jere L. McKee of Daytona Beach, Fla., and James L. Wilson of Lewes, Del.; a brother, Robert H. Wilson of Greensburg; a sister, Mrs. Edward (Betty) Franklin of Long Beach, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the CURRAN FUNERAL HOME INC., 701 Salt St. in Saltsburg. Services from the Saltsburg Presbyterian Church in Saltsburg Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daniel Satler and the Rev. Susan Porch Lantz co-officiating. Interment Edgewood Cemetery in Saltsburg. Masonic service will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saltsburg Lion's Club service at 6:45 p.m., and Saltsburg Volunteer Fire Department service at 7 p.m., all in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Saltsburg Presbyterian Church in Saltsburg.

IDA V. CROMLING

Ida V. Cromling, 73, of Derry, died Monday, April 24, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Oct. 19, 1926, in Derry, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Santa Bongrazio Zannetti. Prior to retirement, Ida was employed as a cook for Kennametal, Latrobe. She was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society, and the Ukrainian Society, both of Derry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore F. Cromling Sr., in 1984; a brother, Raymond Zannetti; and a sister, Rosalie Smith. Ida is survived by two sons , Theodore F. Cromling Jr. of Durham, N.C., and Thomas A. Cromling at home; three daughters , Mrs. George (Janet) Phillippi of New Derry, Mrs. Jeffrey (Sandra) Hill of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Jeffrey (Barbara) Uschak of Blairsville; eight grandchildren; three brothers , Robert Zannetti of Orwell, Ohio, Anthony Zannetti of Latrobe and Eugene Zannetti of Hanover; also several nieces and nephews. The family received friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MICHAEL J. QUINLISK FUNERAL HOME INC., 548 Chestnut St., Derry. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph R.C. Church with the Rev. Stephen C. West as celebrant. Interment will follow in Coles Cemetery, Derry.

MARC D'AGOSTINO

A memorial service will be held for Marc "Aggie" D'Agostino on Saturday, April 29, 2000. Friends are invited to a memorial service at the Darlington Fire Hall beginning at 4 p.m., followed by a party held in his honor at Cliff and Judi's at the junction of Route 259 and Route 30, Ligonier. This will be a celebration of Aggie's life and a gathering of loved ones and friends who wish him love, peace and joy as his Soul travels the journey on his chosen pathway. Aggie lived every moment here to the fullest and his parting is only a transition. He lives on in our hearts. He shared love and happiness with his family and was a good friend. He will be missed. Aggie wanted us to be happy that his Spirit is set free. He wanted us to toast to his memory and send him on his way with "one hell of a party." Casual dress is requested. Aggie would have it no other way.

BERTHA ELIZABETH DEER

Bertha Elizabeth Deer, 66, of Jeannette, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at home. She was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Turtle Creek, a daughter of the late Andrew and Ruby America Soles. Prior to retirement, she worked as a cook for the Jeannette School District. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David E. Deer; and two brothers , Homer Griffin and Andrew Soles. She is survived by four daughters , Diane Scholz and her husband, Chuck, of Jeannette, Ellen Severini and her husband, Bill, of Grapeville, Amy Deer and her fiance, George Evangelist, of Jeannette and Shirley Kapelar of Irwin; four grandchildren, Shannon and Charlie Scholz, David Deer and Lacey Severini; two brothers , Walter Soles of Denver, Colo., and Harry Soles of Turtle Creek; three sisters , Ruby Kotlar of East Pittsburgh, Gladys Roberts of North Versailles and Ida McCelland of Ellwood City; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor David Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Jeannette Memorial Park, Penn Township.

ROSE ELIZABETH MINCIN

Rose Elizabeth Mincin, of Baldwin, died Monday, April 24, 2000. Wife of the late Peter J. Mincin. mother of Gloria (John) Harim and Robert (Lynn) Mincin. Grandmother of John (Sherry) Harim, Rose (Alex) Yawny, Dina Kay Harim, Lynn (Matthew) Donalies and Robert Mincin II. Sister of Edith Cilia, Torino Jr. and Leo Mincin. Also survived by five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Mincin was president of Baldwin Golden Agers for nine years, and a member of the Ladies of Charity, Christian Mothers of St. Albert and worked in the bingo kitchen at St. Albert. Friends received at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME INC., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood, Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Prayer Thursday at 9:15 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial in St. Albert The Great Church at 10 a.m.

MARY ELIZABETH PIPPERT

Mary Elizabeth Pippert, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, formerly of West Newton, died Friday, April 21, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Jan. 24, 1904, in West Newton, a daughter of the late John Frederick Pippert and Hettie Latimore Pippert. She worked for the Mt. Lebanon public school system for 30 years, first as a music teacher and later as superintendent of all music instruction in the school system. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, West Newton. Miss Pippert earned a bachelor's degree at State College and a master's degree at New York University. She retired to her home in West Newton, and later moved to Harmon House, Mt. Pleasant. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Pippert Randol of Philadelphia; and two nephews, Burton S. Randol and William L. Randol, both of New York. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Wert; and a brother, J. Frederick "Duke" Pippert. Friends will be received Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., West Newton, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Allen R. Riethmiller officiating. Interment in West Newton Cemetery.

VICTOR J. SZALANKIEWICZ

On Monday, April 24, 2000, Victor J. Szalankiewicz, 80, of Mt. Pleasant RD5, was called by his Heavenly Creator to his final resting place. He was born April 27, 1919, in Everson, a son of the late John and Magdalena Komanska Szalankiewicz. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the former Teledyne-Vasco Co., Latrobe. He was a member of St. Florian Catholic Church, United, a lifetime member of the Norvelt Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the VFW Post 3368 of Mt. Pleasant, was a Mt. Pleasant Township fire policeman, an honorary member of the United Steelworkers of America Local 7297 and a volunteer for more than 10 years at the Latrobe Area Hospital in Priority Care. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in the 306th Troop Carrier Squad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters , Walter Szalankiewicz, Agnes Napiorski, Casmier Szalankiewicz, Edward Szalankiewicz and Jessie Bozik. He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Mary L. Mozni Szalankiewicz; and loving Father of two children, Joan R. Szalankiewicz of Mt. Pleasant RD5 and Gerald J. Szalankiewicz and his wife, Carolyn, of Ligonier RD4; and the loving grandfather of Amy Lynn Szalankiewicz of Ligonier RD4. He is also survived by the following siblings, Mary Muszynski of McKees Rocks, Clara Kowalewski of Scottdale, Genevieve Fatla of Mt. Pleasant, Chester Szalankiewicz and Loretta Brissette, both of New Jersey; and nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 9:20 a.m., followed his Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Florian Church with the Rev. John M. Foriska and the Rev. Simon Toth as concelebrants. Interment will follow in St. Florian Cemetery, Trauger. A wake service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. military services will be accorded by the AMVETS Post 94 of United and the Armbrust Veterans. Sandra L. GEORGE T. ADAMSON

George T. Adamson, 72, of Claridge, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 21, 1927, in Wilkinsburg, a son of the late Abraham L. and Lucy Johnson Adamson. Prior to his retirement, he was a machine inspector for Miller Printing Machine Co. in Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Murrysville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Seabees, was a member of the Bushy Run American Legion Post #260 in Claridge, and a former member of the original police force in Churchill Borough. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Faye Jobe Adamson; four sons , George G. and wife, Vicki Adamson, of Boquet, David and wife, Sona Adamson, of Harrison City, Patrick and wife, Rhonda Adamson, of Claridge and Jeffrey and wife, Karen Adamson, of Jacksonville, N.C.; four daughters , Diane Adamson of Durham, N.C., Debbie and husband, Barry Kistler, Donna and husband, Lester Eakman, and Darlene Adamson, all of Claridge; a sister, June Bair of Palm Harbor, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and a niece and nephew. Friends will be received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. JOHN DANIEL BAKER

John Daniel Baker, 67, of New Alexandria, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, in his residence. He was born March 10, 1933, in Grapeville, a son of the late David and Genevieve Ciccatela Baker. He was an independent steel hauler. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church of New Alexandria. He belonged to the New Alexandria Lions Club, Salem Ukes, Hannastown Firemen's Club, ELIS golf league, National Rifle Association, PGA Tour Patrons Club, and charter member of Chapter U of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association in Delmont. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Barbara Fatora Baker of New Alexandria; three children, Monaca Yothers and husband, Thomas, of Covington, Ky., Brenda Tilley of Augusta, Ga., and Daniel Baker and wife, Elaine, of Trafford; also two other children from a previous marriage, Kathy Baker of Florida and Scott Baker of Virginia. There are five grandchildren; brothers , David, Ronald, Kenneth, Harold and Robert; and a sister, Patricia. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, in New Alexandria. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Lawrence T. Persico as celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Hill Cemetery in Unity Township. The New Alexandria Lions Club will hold a memorial service Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home along with providing pallbearers for the services.

SARAH BRICK

Sarah Brick, 82, of Export, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. She was born June 7, 1917, in Cincinnati, Ohio, a daughter of the late Thomas Harris Sr. and Inah Coatney Harris. She was a member of the Beulah Presbyterian Church, Churchill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin C. Brick, in 1993. She is survived by five brothers and sisters , Eloise Prater of Maryville, Tenn., Tom Harris Jr. of Spring Hill, Fla., Deila Foster of Diamond Bar, Calif., Raymond L. Wilson of Kettering, Ohio, and Kay F. Miller of Zelienople, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Visitation Thursday 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. Interment will be private in Cincinnati, Ohio. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Beulah Presbyterian Church (Historic Chapel), Churchill, with the Rev. James Guyer officiating.

MARY FORNAL

Mary Fornal, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday morning, April 26, 2000, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. She was born Dec. 29, 1906, in Mt. Pleasant, a daughter of the late John and Mary Scoff Havash. She was a member of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Broney Fornal, in 1986; a son, Richard Fornal; and five brothers , John, Steve, Sylvester, George, and Felix Havash. She is survived by four sisters , Isabelle McElfresh of Mt. Pleasant, Dolly Lucas of Mt. Pleasant, Eleanor Prevenslik of Youngwood, and Josephine Grosser and husband, Donald, of Greensburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. Mass to be celebrated in Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard J. Kosisko as celebrant. Interment will follow in Transfiguration Cemetery. Transfiguration Rosary Society will recite the rosary in the funeral home Thursday at 6 p.m.
