Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

PHILOMENA VILLANO

Philomena "Minnie" Villano, 92, of Spring Street in the Newtown section of Hanover Township died Friday at her home after an illness.

Born April 23, 1906 in Benevento, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Angie Marie (Politz) Ferro.

She came to the United States as a young girl and lived in Newtown most of her life.

Before retiring in 1975, she was employed in the garment industry. She was last employed by Tina's Dress Co. in Wilkes-Barre as a floor lady.

She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in Wilkes-Barre.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Church on Park Avenue in Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Liebro Villano, in 1975; brothers , Anthony Ferro, Roger Ferro, Dominick Ferro, Patsy Ferro and Nicholas Ferro; and sister, Mary Soccio.

Surviving are her sons , Donald Villano, Newtown; Joseph Villano, Larksville; Bill Villano, Mountaintop; daughters , Rachel Villano, with whom she resided, Angela Yacur, Newtown; seven grandchildren 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the George A. George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Home Health Mercy Hospice, Mercy Hospital, 25 Church St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.

VINCIARELLI, RUTH

October 28, 1999

Ruth R. Vinciarelli, 71, of Ridgewood Road in the Keystone section of Plains Township, died Thursday in the Valley Crest Nursing Home, following an illness.

Born in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Klimchak) McDaniels.

She was a 1941 graduate of Plymouth High School and was a resident of Keystone for most of her life.

She worked as a sewing machine operator for several local garment manufacturers until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Baldino; and sisters , Dolores Billings and Irene McDaniels.

Surviving are sons , Jerome, with whom she resided; Baldino, Keystone; a brother, Joseph McDaniels, Georgia; and six grandchildren.

There will be no viewing and no calling hours.

Donations may be given to the Humanity Gifts Registry, P.0. Box 835, Philadelphia, 19105.

Arrangements by Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, Plains.

FRANCES VITALI

Frances Vitali, 86, formerly of West View Manor in Wyoming died Friday at Kingston Health Care Center.

Born March 18, 1912, in Italy, she was the daughter of the late John and Lena (Bordick) Bordicchia.

She was a resident of Wyoming for the past 35 years.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Pittston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Vitali, in 1974; brothers , Frank, Joseph and John Bordick.

Surviving are a niece, Lenore Francis, Taylor; great nieces; and one great-great nephew.

Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family from the Recupero Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Mausoleum, Carverton, Kingston Township.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Vivian, Hilda

March 9, 2000

Hilda Vivian, formerly of Vernon, died Thursday at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.

Born Jan. 28, 1916, in Dallas, she was a daughter of the late George and Anna (Smith) Rogers. She was a graduate of Dallas High School and a member of Vernon Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Vivian, Sr.; brothers , Robert and Carlton; and sisters , Edith Brown; and Vivian Southworth.

Surviving are her sons , Earl R. Vivian Jr., Bear Foot, Fla.; William Vivian, Vernon; sisters , Dorothy Sickler, Ariz.; and Frances Anderson; Tunkhannock; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, Inc., 672 Memorial Highway, Dallas, with the Rev. Glen Spencer officiating. Interment will be in Idetown Cemetery, Idetown. Friends may call 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Meadows Auxiliary, 55 W. Center Hill Road, Dallas, 18612.

KAREN VODA

April 5, 1999

Karen Voda, 53, of Barlieb Road in Nazareth died April 5 at St. Luke's Hospital in Nazareth.

Born Dec. 28, 1945, in Quakertown, she was a daughter of Walter J. Gaugler and Henrietta (Gilley) Gaugler, of Fort Meyers Beach, Fla.

She was the wife of Charles F. Voda, formerly of Exeter, to whom she was married 29 years last August.

A 1963 graduate of Southern Lehigh High School, she received a bachelor's degree from East Stroudsburg University and a master's degree in education from Kutztown University.

She was a substitute teacher in the Nazareth School District until 1997. She previously taught in the Quakertown and Wilson school districts. She also worked as a salesperson for Basics Plus in Nazareth.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are twin children, Jonathon, Pittsburgh; and Cherrie Lynn, at home; and brothers , Walter J., Jr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Robert C., Coopersburg; and Kenneth F., Deming, N.M.

Interment was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Nazareth. Arrangements were by Reichel Funeral Home, Inc., in Nazareth.

VOYTUSH, STEPHANIE

November 1, 1999

Stephanie A. Voytush, formerly of West Church Street in Nanticoke, died Monday at Riverstreet Manor in Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Mark and Amelia (Wietrzykowski) Ciempola.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Nanticoke and the Polish Women's Alliance.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, Joseph, Jr.; brother, Stanley; and sisters , Pauline Bartkiewicz, Genevieve Stryjewski and Tozia Macyda.

Surviving are her sons , Leonard, Mount Arlington, N.J.; and Henry, Nanticoke; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday in Holy Trinity Church in Nanticoke. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in Nanticoke.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke.

ROSE WAITER

Rose T. (Penkala) Waiter, 93, of West Church Street in Nanticoke died Friday at the Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

Born in West Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Catherine Rachfal Penkala.

She attended West Hazleton schools and moved to Nanticoke in 1930 upon marriage.

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, its Women's Catholic Council, and the Sacred Heart Society.

She was employed by General Cigar, Nanticoke, for several years as a wrapper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, in 1979; brothers , Louis, Bernard and Henry; and sisters , Anna Mollick and Josephine Cotsack.

Surviving are her daughters , Phyllis Bartkowiak, with whom she resided; Rosemary Niesyn, New Hampshire; Doris Schwarzwalder, Cape Coral, Fla.; brothers , Monsignor Edmund Penkala, Dunmore; Joseph Penkala, Trenton, N.J.; Stanley Penkala, South Amboy, N.J.; sister, Catherine Gido, Maryland; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday from the Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church.

Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Nanticoke.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today.

Walko, Emily

March 27, 2000

Emily E. Walko, of Interfaith Heights, died Monday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Helen (Batista) Balberchak. She was a housekeeper and a member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Church, Edwardsville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Q.; daughter, Emily; and sister, Catherine Eget.

Surviving are her sons , Richard, Larksville; and Andrew, Pringle; five grandchildren, one great-grandson; brothers , Andrew, Ashley; and Albert, Summit, N.J.; sisters , Helen Balberchak, Edwardsville; Mary Paternoster, Wilkes-Barre; Elizabeth Hawronsky, Ambridge; Constance Zacharkiu, Cream Ridge, N.J.; Rita Lemonowski, Exeter; Dorothy Wolinsky, Swoyersville; and Regina Dermako, Luzerne; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from the Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Avenue, Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saints Cyril and Methodius Church. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Pringle. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Daniel Wallitsch

May 22, 1998

Daniel D. Wallitsch, 41, of Second Avenue, Kingston, died Friday in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital shortly after admission.

Born in Allentown, he was the son of Rowland Wallitsch, Allentown, and the late Jennie Madea Wallitsch.

He graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School and the University of Scranton.

He was employed as a controller by Ryder Transportation Co., Portland, Maine.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William.

Surviving in addition to his Father are his wife, the former Cheryl Surgan; children Emily and Adam, at home; brothers Rowland, New Tripoli; Alfred, Allentown; sister Maria Popplewell, Weston, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8:30 a.m. Tuesday from Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerby Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Annunciation Church, Kingston.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Annunciation Cemetery, Pringle.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale, Box 318, Memphis, Tenn., 38118.
