Eirwen Uren, 85, formerly of Nanticoke, died Sunday at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Thomas Owens, Rockydale Road, Green Lane.
Born in Maestag, Wales, she was a daughter of the late Caradoc and Agnes (Walters) Davies.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed at the General Cigar Co., Nanticoke.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Nanticoke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Brother Thomas.
Surviving are daughters , Nancy Owens, with whom she resided; and Joan Casper, Telford; four grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. William Patterson officiating.
Interment will be at the Hanover Green Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Mary Uzdilla

Mary Uzdilla, 90, formerly of Buttonwood and Lee Park sections of Hanover Township, died Friday at Manor Care Health Services, Kingston.
Born in Hanover Township, Dec. 8, 1907, she was daughter of the late Procko and Verna Kopacz.
She resided in Hanover Township all of her life and was employed as a seamstress in the local garment industry.
She attended Hanover Township schools and was a member of SS. Peter's and Paul's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Plymouth, and the Providence Association of Ukrainian Catholics of America.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1968; sister, Helen Yurgel; and brother, Michael Kopacz.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Charles V. Sherbin Funeral Home, 630 Main Road, Hanover Green section of Hanover Township, with the Rev. Dr. Nick Kostiuk officiating, followed by a Mass of Divine Liturgy of the Lord at 9 a.m. in SS. Peter's and Paul's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Plymouth.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
Parastas will be observed at 3 p.m. Monday.
David Valentine

David Bruce Valentine of Tunkhannock died Thursday at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock.
Born in Laceyville, he was son of the late Arthur and Merre Martin Valentine.
He was a self-employed mechanic who specialized in rebuilding carburetors.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, the former Derry Sackett; sons , Bobby, Paul and Michael Valentine, all of Tunkhannock; daughters , Kathy and Michelle Valentine, both of Tunkhannock; brothers , Ken Valentine, Forkston; Roger Valentine, Laceyville; sisters , Joyce Blanch, Old Town, Fla.; Janet Kovarik, Chiefland, Fla.; Alice Huyck, Florida; and five grandchildren.
Cremation will be held at the Maple Hill Crematory, Wilkes-Barre.
Memorial and interment services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are by the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.
Eleanor VanAuken

Eleanor E. VanAuken, 76, formerly of West Pittston, died Thursday at Mountain Rest Nursing Home, Scranton, where she resided for the past five years.
Born Feb. 14, 1922, in West Pittston, she was daughter of the late William and Ella Yerger Green.
She attended West Pittston High School and was a member of Luzerne Avenue Baptist Church, West Pittston.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert H., in 1980, and a brother, William Green.
Surviving are her husband, William; sons , William, Hephzibah, Ga.; Marvin, Plymouth; Ralph, Wilkes-Barre; Richard, West Pittston; Warren, Pittston; David, Exeter; daughters , Ruth Visneski, West Pittston; Joyce Calovi, Hazleton; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston, with the Rev. Robert J. Herrala officiating.
Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery, Harding.

NEIL VANDER GROEF
April 26, 1999
Neil A. Vander Groef, of East Washington Street in Nanticoke, died Monday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Oct. 19, 1923, in Passaic, N.J., he was the son of the late Christopher and Mary Ann (Vangulick) Vander Groef.
Before retiring he was employed at Passaic Housing Authority and was previously a merchant marine.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, F.O.E. Aerie 834 and American Legion Post 350, all of Nanticoke.
Surviving are his son, Neil, Newton, N.J.; daughter, Lorraine Teller, Pennsylvania ; companion, Jean Shamun, with whom he resided; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday at a time to be announced from the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church.
Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, N.J.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. A wake service will be at 8 p.m.
American Legion Post 350 will conduct military services at the church.
Vannucchi, Mary

Mary (Davitt) Vannucchi, 81, of North Main Street, Plains Township, died Friday at the Inpatient Unit of Hospice Community Care, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Plains Township, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine McCauley Davitt. She was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Plains Township, and its Altar & Rosary Society. She was also a past member of the mother 's Auxiliary Scout Pack 100. She and her husband, Albert, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 29, 1999.
She was preceded in death by brothers , John and James Davitt; sisters , Anna Simner, Agnes Long, Catherine Burns, Regina Tabor and Loretta Gibbons; and grandson, Richard Smith.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are son, Albert Vannucchi Jr., Plains Township; daughters , Kate Smith, Plains Township; Molly Kelley, Moosic; Lia Vannucchi, at home; sister, Veronica Carey, Kingston; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Corcoran Funeral Home, 20 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Marion E. Vanston, 58, of Adams Avenue, Scranton, died Sept. 29 at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton.
Born in Scranton, she was a daughter of the late Thomas J. and Marian F. Wagstaff Vanston.
She was a graduate of St. Patrick's High School and Marywood University. She was employed as a teacher, health care worker and diabetic counselor. She had worked at Little Flower Manor and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Surviving are her sister, Sister Marie Lourdes, IHM, Patchogue, N.Y.; brothers . Thomas J., Jackson Heights, N.Y.; and James D., Chicago.
Funeral services were Saturday from the Vanston Funeral Home, 142. S. Main Ave., Scranton. The Rev. Roger Elliot celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann's Basilica in Scranton.

CHESTER VERBINSKI

Chester S. Verbinski, 81, of RR 2, Shickshinny, died Sunday at the Berwick Retirement Village II.
Born May 25, 1917, in Shickshinny, he was the son of the late Frank and Antonette Verbinski.
He was a graduate of the former Shickshinny High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought in Africa and Italy and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals.
He was a member of St. Martha's Church, Fairmount Springs, and was a former member of the Shickshinny American Legion Post.
He was employed at the Alcoa Aluminum, Edgewater, N.J., and later at Hoffman La-Roche Pharmaceutical, Nutley, N.J.
He was preceded in death by his brothers , Joseph Verbin; Frank, Anthony, Albert and Peter Verbinski; sisters , Stella Perkoski and Anna Bellock.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Sudol; step son, Michael Wojcik, Clifton, N.J.; step daughters , Joan Taran, Oak Ridge, N.J.; Barbara Banas, East Rutherford, N.J.; brothers , Ralph Verbinski, Warminster; Leo Verbinski, Garfield, N.J.; sister, Helen Matufeski, Brigantine, N.J.; nine step grandchildren; and seven step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Martha's Church, Fairmount Springs.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

VICTOR, JOSEPH

Joseph R. Victor, 80, of Shavertown section of Kingston Township, died Thursday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre.
Born June 16, 1919, in Larksville, he was a son of the late Andrew (Wytrwal) and Celia (Woznock) Victor.
He was a graduate of Larksville High School
Before his retirement, he was employed for 45 years as a warehouse superintendent with Acme Markets in Forty Fort.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
He was a member of St. Ignatius Church in Kingston, and a former member of the VFW Anthracite Post 283 in Kingston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Trettis; twin sons , Robert and Richard Victor; brothers , Frank Wytrwal and Edmund Victor; and sisters , Clara and Violet Victor, Stella Elinsky, and Elizabeth Melovitz Nemchick.
Surviving are his sons , Joseph A., Culver City, Calif.; and John V., Mechanicsburg; daughter, Linda Esrov, Bethesda, Md.; sisters , Jeanette Plotkowski, Milwaukee; and Rita Cyrawa, Rochester, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ann's Chapel in Kingston, with the Rev. Neil VanLoon, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery in Pringle.
