Grace G. Tennesen, 78, of North Goodwin Avenue in Kingston died Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, where she had been a patient four days. She had been a guest at ManorCare in Kingston for the past five years.
Born Jan. 7, 1921, in the Alden section of Newport Township, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Viola (Fine) Tennesen.
She attended Newport Township schools and was a 1938 graduate of the former Newport Township High School. She had also studied X-ray technology at Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia.
She had been employed as a caseworker at Luzerne County Institution District for 25 years, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of Wyoming Avenue Christian Church in Kingston.
Surviving are her sisters , Margaret Price, Alden; and Gertrude Henderson, Gainesville, Fla.; three nieces and one nephew.
Private funeral services will be Saturday from the Davis-Dinelli Funeral Home, 170 E. Broad St., Nanticoke, with the Rev. William H. Fudge officiating. Interment will be in Dorrance Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
TEWKSBURY, DONALD

Donald L. Tewksbury, 75, of Laceyville, died Saturday at the Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock, following a lengthy illness. He was a resident of the Carpenter Care Center, Tunkhannock, since 1995.
Born Feb. 4, 1924, he was the eldest son of the late Eldred P. and Elsie Love Tewksbury.
He was a graduate of Laceyville High School, class of 1942.
He operated a dairy farm in South Auburn for 20 years before beginning his own residential and commercial construction business. He built and later operated the Windmill Inn, Black Walnut, until 1974. He also was a former employee of the Route 87 Sales and Service division of Penns Best, Inc.
He was a former member of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church; honorary member of the Meshoppen Rod and Gun Club; the Meshoppen Men's Club; former master of the South Auburn Grange #1188; the Laceyville Business Association; the Pennsylvania Tavern Association; and a social member of the Black Walnut American Legion Post 510, where he was a past steward. He also played on the Meshoppen and Laceyville baseball teams for many years.
Surviving are his sons , Gary Tewksbury, Tunkhannock; Randy Tewksbury, Reedsville; Douglas Tewksbury, Laceyville; step children, Sherelyn Teabo, Garner, N.C.; Edward Marshall, Tomahawk, Wis.; sisters , Louise DeWolf and Bernita Gardner, both of Meshoppen; Martha Proof and Loretta Guiton, both of Montrose; Diane Lewis, Forkston; brothers , Elden Tewksbury, Montour Falls, N.Y.; Frank Tewksbury, Winter Haven, Fla.; Arden and John Tewksbury, both of Meshoppen; Dale Tewksbury, Wyalusing; former wives, Eleanor Tewksbury, Tunkhannock; and Sharon Chamberlain, Largo, Fla.; five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville.
Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in Jersey Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Thomas, Richard

Retired Sgt. Richard J. "Sarge" Thomas, a resident of the Northeast Veterans Center, Scranton, formerly of Park Street, Moosic, died Wednesday at the center.
Born July 22, 1909, in Moosic, he was a son of the late George W. and Nellie (King) Thomas, and a 1927 graduate of Moosic High School. He retired as a sergeant from the U.S. Army in 1955. He was stationed in the Hawaiian Islands before World War II and in England in the European Theater during the war.
After his military career, he worked for DeFazio Ice Co., Moosic; and Garlett Manufacturing Co., Old Forge. For more than 20 years, he was judge of elections in Moosic. He was also a life member of the Moosic Hose Co. and Ambulance Association, where he taught first aid classes. He was a member of American Legion Post 607, Avoca; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8335, Avoca; and the Moosic United Methodist Church.
Surviving his brothers , Austin, Sunnybank, Va.; and Bernard, Moosic; sister, Margaret Ferri, Old Forge; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers , LeGrande and Chester; and sisters , Ruth and Frances.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, Old Forge, with services by the Rev. Carl Brown, of Moosic United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Springbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Warren Thomas

Warren P. Thomas, of Lake Carey, died Saturday at VNA Hospice at the Community Medical Center, following an illness.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late J. Pryce and Elizabeth Williams Thomas.
He attended the University of Scranton and was a retired salesman for Service Supply Corp., Wilkes-Barre. He was previously employed by Standard Equipment Co., Wilkes Barre.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic in the Philippines.
He was a member of Abington Memorial Post 7069 VFW, Clarks Summit, and Hyde Park Lodge 339 F&AM.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ann Marie Mulhern, in 1973; sister, Betty Jones.
Surviving are a son, James P.; Foothill Ranch, Calif.; a grandson; a granddaughter; a niece; two grand-nephews and a grand-niece.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Shady Lane Cemetery, Chinchilla.
There will be no viewing.

TIGUE, FRANCES

Frances J. Tigue, formerly of Sixth Street in Wyoming died Monday in Danbury, Conn.
Born in West Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Hutchinson) Walsh. She was a 1930 graduate of St. Cecelia's High School in Exeter.
She resided for 35 years in the Bronx, N.Y., where she was employed by the Jewish Memorial Hospital as a licensed practical nurse. In 1973, she moved to Wyoming.
She was a Member of St. Joseph's Church in Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; sister, Grace Spry; and brother, Calan Walsh.
Surviving are her son, Michael, Danbury, Conn., with whom she resided; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday from the Metcalfe and Shaver Funeral Home, Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church.
Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Wyoming.

Robert G. Tilley, 41, of Foundry Street, West Pittston, died Wednesday.
Born in Kingston, he was a son of Russell and Joan (Haas) Tilley, of West Pittston. He graduated from West Pittston High School and resided in West Pittston most of his life. He worked for at Coca Cola Co., Pittston Township and was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, West Pittston.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, the former Christine Hall; daughter, Ashley, and son, Robert G., Jr., both at home; sisters , Linda Houck, Forty Fort; and Jeanette Polak, Falls; brothers , Russell, Jr., Falls; Wayne and David, both of West Pittston; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday from the Metcalfe & Shaver Funeral Home, Inc., Wyoming. The Rev. Wayne Shontz will officiate. Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery. TOMPKINS, RUTH

Ruth Tompkins, of Washington Street, West Pittston, died Sunday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in West Pittston, she was the daughter of the late W. Bennett and Ruth Mary Hartman.
She was a graduate of West Pittston High School and Lackawanna Junior Business College.
She resided in Detroit, Mich., for 16 years before returning to West Pittston.
She was a member of Wyoming Chapter #1 Order of the Eastern Star, Irem Temple Motor Corps Auxiliary and Nesbitt Hospital Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Caleb Tompkins.
Surviving are her brother, Howard Hartman, Detroit, Mich.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday from the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston, with the Rev. Wayne Shontz, of First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating.
Interment will be in West Pittston Cemetery.

Josephine Tona, 79, formerly of Ensign Street in West Wyoming, died Wednesday at the Highland Manor Nursing Home in Exeter.
Born in West Wyoming, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Bessie (Carmen) Tona. She was a graduate of West Wyoming High School and attended nursing school.
She was last employed at Valley Crest Nursing Home as an licensed practical nurse. She also operated the family grocery store, Tona's General Store, for many years.
She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in West Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her brothers , Onofrio and Samuel; sisters , Carmella Gadomski and Mary Pacovsky; and nephew, the Rev. Michael Pulicare.
Surviving are her sisters , Pauline Pulicare, Susquehanna; and Grace Panuski, West Wyoming; brother, Joseph, West Wyoming; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Private funeral services will be conducted from the Frank A. Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
Interment will be in the Italian Independent Cemetery in West Wyoming.
There will be no calling hours.
TOOLE, JOSEPH

Joseph T. Toole, 76, of East Bennett Street, Kingston, died Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born May 16, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Tierney) Toole.
He was a member of the class of 1942 at Coughlin High School.
He was employed at International Color Press, in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, and later was employed as a pressman at the Scranton Times newspaper for 25 years before retiring.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre.
He and his wife, the former Jean Brace, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on Jan. 18.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ann McGeer; brother, Robert Toole; and granddaughter, Sarah Ann Peters.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Cindy Peters, Plymouth; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Walter W. Lisman and Son Funeral Home, 233 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
