SEMAN, ELIZABETH

October 29, 1999

Elizabeth D. Seman, 83, of Alexandria, Va., and formerly of Swoyersville and Edwardsville, died Friday in the Mount Vernon Hospital, Alexandria.

Born March 12, 1916, in Swoyersville, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Ilona Souchak Hruska.

She was educated in the Swoyersville public school system.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Edwardsville, and the Mothers and daughters Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Seman; sisters , Helen Rogers, Mary Kagerer and Anna Petroski.

Surviving are her son, Ronald J. Seman, Punto Gorda, Fla.; daughters , Diane Mary Benn, Alexandria; Beverley Ann Seman, Falls Church, Va.; Ilona Elizabeth VanBoven, Las Vegas; brothers , Michael Hruska, West Patterson, N.J.; William Mustapitch, Dallas; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Edwards and Russin Funeral Home, 717 Main St., Edwardsville, with Requiem Services at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Zerbey Avenue, Edwardsville, with the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Michael Slovesko officiating.

Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Pringle.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. A parastas service will be held at 8 p.m., with the Very Rev. Protopresbyter Slovesko officiating.

Memorial donations may be made to the Nativity of Our Lord Orthodox Church, 8916 Center St., Manassas, Va. 22110.

SEMANSKI, LEO

October 31, 1999

Leo (Leon) Semanski, 74, formerly of Miner Street, Hudson section of Plains Township, died Sunday in the Little Flower Manor Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Leon and Anastasia (Szymoni) Szymanski.

He was a graduate of Plymouth High School, class of 1943, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He worked as a laborer for the ALCOA Aluminum Plant, New Jersey, and retired from the Pressed Steel Plant, North Pennsylvania Avenue, Wilkes-Barre.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church, Plymouth, and Valley Lodge 499, F & AM, West Pittston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Theodora "Teddi" Bielski; sisters , Alice Mital and Leona Szymanski.

Surviving are his step daughter, Marsha Strohl, Plains Township; one step grandson; three nephews and two aunts.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, 55 Stark St., Plains Township, with a Holy Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church, Plymouth.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, Kingston Township.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the Valley Lodge 499, F & AM, West Pittston. A Christian Wake Service will be at 8:30 p.m., with the Rev. Czeslaw Kuliczkowski, of Good Shepherd Polish National Catholic Church, officiating.

Ruth Ann Senghaas

May 14, 1998

Ruth Ann Senghaas, 94, of Luzerne Towers, Bennett Street, Luzerne, died Thursday at the Summit Health Care Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Ashley, she was daughter of the late John and Mary Ann Lewis Thomas.

She attended Ashley schools.

She was a member of the Luzerne United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by husband, Joseph, in 1953; a daughter, Jeanne Schoonover; a granddaughter, Linda Shonk; sisters , Mabel McGowan, Mildred Wynn, Catherine Jones, Annetta Ott and Alice Bierne; brothers , Edgar Thomas, Clarence Thomas and Arthur Thomas.

Surviving are daughters , Ruth (Betty) Shonk, Luzerne; Joanne Shekiro, Trenton, N.J.; Jackelyn Evanchick, Allentown, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at a time to be announced.

The Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home Inc., 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, are in charge of arrangements.

Serafin, Madeline

March 3, 2000

Madeline R. Serafin, 68, of Swoyersville, died Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Yatesville, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Barber) Bonomo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, and brother, Ralph.

Surviving are her daughter, Debra Kertesz, Shavertown; brother, Joseph, West Pittston; sister, Louise Trischitta, South Amboy, N.J.; and an aunt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday from St. Anthony's Church, Exeter. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Recupero Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston. Interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

Anthony Settinenia

April 15, 1998

Anthony James Settinenia died Wednesday in Manor Care of Pinehurst, N.C.

He was a former banker, ballroom dance instructor and transit authority employee for New York City.

Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Buchakin, Port Griffith.

Mass was celebrated Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pinehurst, N.C.

Interment was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Pittston, with the Rev. Robert Kemeter officiating and Frank Behanick, cantor.

Arrangements are by the Edwin A. Sites Funeral Home, Pittston.

Nancy Shackles

May 17, 1998

Nancy R. Shackles, 74, of Burlington Township, N.J., died Sunday at her residence.

Born in Albany, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ruth (Myers) Shackles.

She formerly lived in Wilkes-Barre and Fairlawn, N.J., and was a recent Burlington Township resident.

She was employed as a teacher and most recently as a lab technician.

She served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Surviving are her sister, Laura Caschner, Bordentown, N.J.; brother, Robert Shackles, Muskegon, Mich.; three nieces and a nephew; several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from the Page Funeral Home, 302 East Union St., Burlington, N.J.

Interment will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, East Broad and St. Mary's streets, Burlington, N.J., 08016.

SHARP, MARY

November 2, 1999

Mary Ellen Sharp, of Walnut Street in Luzerne died Tuesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Swoyersville, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Clara (Charnitsky) Evanko.

Before her retirement, she was employed by Leslie Fay as a seamstress.

She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Luzerne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Sharp.

Surviving are her children, Molly Judge, Rochester, N.Y.; Raymond, Dallas; and Carol Reese, Dallas; four grandchildren; brothers , John, Michigan; Michael, Swoyersville; and Frank, Michigan; sister, Margaret Perye, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday from the Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Inc., 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Interment will be in Denison Cemetery in Swoyersville.

A viewing will be held at the convenience of the family.

BRIAN SHATROWSKAS

Brian David Shatrowskas, 27, of Tripp Street in West Wyoming died Tuesday.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of Patricia Mikelski Radle, of West Wyoming, and Anthony Shatrowskas Jr., of Avoca.

He was a graduate of West Side Tech in Pringle.

He was a member of St. Francis Church in Wilkes-Barre.

He was employed as a chef at Colonial Pancake House in Wyoming.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his brothers , Alan J., Pittston; Joseph T., Forty Fort; Mark J., Pittston; Matthew and Eric, and sister, Stacy, all of Avoca.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday from the Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis Church.

Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

SHAW, MARY MARJORIE

November 28, 1999

Mary Marjorie (Brague) Shaw, 80, of Academy Street, Plymouth, died Sunday at her home.

Born in Breeseport, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Rev. Roy and Marjorie (Richards) Brague.

She was a 1936 graduate of Plymouth High School.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Plymouth.

She was preceded in death by her brothers , Edwin, Foster, George and Gerald; and sister, Lucy.

Surviving are her husband, Richard "Dick"; son, Daniel, Plymouth; sister, Florence Hodgson, Pottstown; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the William A. Reese Funeral Chapel, Rear 54 Gaylord Ave., Plymouth, with the Rev. Donald Littleton officiating.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday.
