PELAK, PETER

November 22, 1999

Peter Pelak, 89, of Edwardsville, died Monday at the Highland Manor Nursing Home in Exeter.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the Edwards & Russin Funeral Home, 717 Main St., Edwardsville.

JOHN PELCHAR

April 29, 1999

John M. Pelchar, of Curtis Street in Kingston, died Thursday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Edwardsville, he was the son of the late John and Anne Pelchar.

He was employed by the Suburban Dairy, Edwardsville; Blue Ribbon Cake Co. and Jamie Manufacturing, Inc., both of Kingston.

He was a member of St. Hedwig's Church in Kingston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jennie T. Zamoyski; brother, Frank; and sister, Anne Triolo.

Surviving are his children, Joan and John, both at home; Lt. Col. Joseph, stationed with the Air Force in Guam; three grandsons; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from Kopicki Funeral Home, 263 Zerbey Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Hedwig's Church.

Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Dallas.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Pepe, Anna

February 24, 2000

Anna Rose Pepe, 75, of Springfield, W.Va., formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Thursday at her home.

Born in Swoyersville, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Leona Hanadel.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Leonard; brothers , Leon and Steve; and sister, Leona.

Surviving are her son, Francis, West Virginia; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers , Fred, Noxen; and John, Swoyersville; and sisters , Josie Byczek, Swoyersville; and Dorothy Sokoloski, Kingston.

Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Monday from the Recupero Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Name - St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Swoyersville. Interment will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

PETHICK, ROBERT

October 31, 1999

Robert Vernon Pethick, 88, formerly of Bear Creek, died Sunday in the Hospice Unit of the Visiting Nurses Association of Lackawanna County at Community Medical Center in Scranton.

Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Harry and Lillian (Chambers) Pethick. He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary and Bucknell College, where he was captain of the football and boxing teams. He was a part of the team that played in the first Orange Bowl.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a gunnery officer on the Liberty Ship Francis P. Glover.

He was president of and operated Pethick Construction Co. from the mid-1950s until his retirement. His architecture is known locally and in the Bradenton and Anna Maria Island areas of Florida for its strong Frank Lloyd Wright character.

He was a member of the Rotary Club in the 1960s. He became an active member of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Sports Car Club of America and was elected the club's Man of the Year in 1971.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Marion Joneson Pethick and Lilo Anne Hoyer Pethick.

Surviving are his daughter, Isolde Hunter, Stroudsburg; son, Robert Jan Pethick, Bryn Mawr; and one grandson.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Robert M. Zanicky, of First Presbyterian Church in Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania in Wilkes-Barre.

Petrochko, Fred

March 2, 2000

Fred Petrochko, 65, of Bethel Park, died Thursday.

He was the son of Madge and the late Peter Petrochko.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy; sons , Michael and Kenneth; daughter, Deborah Hellier; step daughters , Kimberly Collins and Kelly Hathaway; step son, Brian Bielski; brothers , Robert and Daniel; sisters , Cecile Doremus and Phyllis Stamile, of the Wilkes-Barre area; and four grandchildren.

A blessing service will be at 1 p.m. Monday from the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills. Entombment will be in Jefferson Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and Family Hospice of Pittsburgh, 250 Mt. Lebanon Blvd., Suite 203, Pittsburgh, 15234.

PETROSKY, MARIAN

October 28, 1999

Marian Arlene (Jones) Petrosky, 70, a resident of Fairview Township, died Thursday at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

Born May 23, 1928, in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late John and Irene (Baker) Jones.

She attended Warrior Run High School and resided in Mountaintop for the past 38 years.

She was employed by Consolidated Cigar in Wilkes-Barre, and as an assembly tester at the former RCA factory in the Crestwood Industrial Park before her retirement.

Surviving are her husband, Edward J.; daughter, Phyllis A. Petrosky, at home; sister, Audrey Torlish, Bridgewater, N.J.; twin sisters , Rita Barney, Manville, N.J.; and Ruth Jones, Laceyville; and nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family from the McCune Funeral Home in Mountaintop.

Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Hanover Township.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Luzerne County, Fox Hill Road, Plains Township, 18705.

Susan Sullivan-Phillips

April 17, 1998

Susan Sullivan-Phillips, 37, of Dallas, died Friday at Mercy Hospice Center Inpatient Unit at Mercy Hospital, Scranton.

Born in Rahway, N.J., March 25, 1961, she was daughter of the late Bernard and Gloria Sullivan.

She graduated from Colonia High School, Colonia, N.J., in 1979.

She also graduated from the University of Scranton in 1983, earning her bachelor of science degree in biology. In 1986 she earned her bachelor of science in nursing.

She was employed as a registered nurse by Allied Services, Scranton.

She was a member of St. Therese's Church, Shavertown, along with its choir and sponsor couple program. She also served in the Peace Corps in Africa and was a volunteer at the Back Mountain Free Clinic and with the Big brothers /Big sisters program.

Surviving are her husband, James J., Dallas; daughters Devin Marie, at home; sisters Bernadette Sullivan, Virginia; Maureen Sirois, Avenel, N.J.; Sharon Addvenski, East Brunswick, N.J.; brothers Jack, New Orleans; Tim, Mount Bethel; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Therese's Church with the Rev. Peter Crynes officiating.

Interment will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 57 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.

Phillips, Gladys

February 1, 2000

Gladys A. Phillips, 99, of Tunkhannock, died Tuesday at Greenly Personal Care, Tunkhannock.

Born May 9, 1900, in South Eaton, Wyoming County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Bodle and Mary Stroh Phillips. A 1919 graduate of Tunkhannock High School, she was a local historian and a member of the Wyoming County Historical Society. She was secretary of South Eaton Cemetery for more than 40 years and also was a trustee. She was a member of Eaton Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by brothers , Herbert M. and Percy R. Phillips.

Surviving are her sister, Erma Shotwell, Tunkhannock; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, Tunkhannock. The Rev. J. Daniel Herron, of Eatonville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in South Eaton Cemetery, Tunkhannock. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to South Eaton Cemetery Association, 358 Keelersburg Road, Tunkhannock; or Wyoming County Historical Society, P.O. Box 39, Tunkhannock, 18657.

Piatt, Charles

April 22, 2000

Charles W. Piatt, 74, of Huntington Township, died Saturday at his home.

Born Dec. 1, 1925, in Huntington Township, he was a son of the late George H. and Myrtle B. (Robbins) Piatt.

He was a graduate of the former Huntington Mills High School.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He worked for M&G Convoy, New Castle, Del.

He was a member of the American Legion, Bloomsburg.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, the former Alberta Lanning; sons , Charles, Seymur, Texas ; Barry, Catawissa; James, Huntington Township; and David, New Castle, Del.; daughter, Judy Piatt, Berwick; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest, Shickshinny Valley; sisters , Cleo Mont, Lois Piatt, Ethel Yablonski and Esther Dennis, all of Shickshinny; Alice Hess, Benton, Ruth Grenci, Clifton, N.J.; and Nancy Pollin, North Plainfield, N.J.

Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Jonestown Cemetery, Jonestown.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny.

PIATT, HOWARD

November 19, 1999

Howard L. Piatt Sr., of the Pikes Creek section of Lake Township died Friday at his home.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., Pikes Creek.
