MAHONEY, MICHAEL

December 24, 1999

Michael D. "Mike" Mahoney, 42, of RR 2, (Overshot Road,) Laceyville, died Friday at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, after a heart attack on Thursday.

Born Aug. 3, 1957, in Meshoppen, he was the son of the late William D. Mahoney and the former Dorothy F. Carter.

He was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School, class of 1975. He later served in the U.S. Army as an E-5, stationed at Fort Meade, Md., from 1975 to 1978.

He was employed at the Procter & Gamble paper plant, Mehoopany, and as a truck driver for the Penns Best Trucking, Meshoppen, for the past several years. He last worked for Stacey McClain Trucking Inc., Tunkhannock.

He served as president of the Mountainside Lanes Sunday night mixed league bowling.

Surviving, in addition to his mother , are step Father , Jim Ayers, Melbourne, Fla.; sons , Greg Cowburn, Wellsboro; Darren Mahoney, Laceyville; daughters , Farah Zinck, Wellsboro; Christina Mahoney, Watertown, N.Y.; Amber Mahoney, Melbourne; Stephanie Mahoney, Laceyville; brother, Kevin Mahoney, Randolph, N.J.; sisters , Debbie Bowen, Melbourne; Karen Mitchell, Springville; Linda Mahoney, Laceyville; friend, Shelly Lott Crisman, with whom he resided in Laceyville; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Laceyville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wyalusing, with Father Thomas J. McDermott officiating.

Interment will be in North Flat Cemetery, Laceyville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Laceyville-Meshoppen Ambulance Association, the Mehoopany Ambulance Association or to the Laceyville Public Library.

MALACARNE, PETER

October 29, 1999

Peter Paul Malacarne, 64, of Dodson Lane, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at his home.

Born Feb. 21, 1935, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Paul and Harriet Payne Malacarne.

He was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School, class of 1953.

He was formerly employed as a truck driver for Hall's Transit, Plains Township, for many years.

He was a member of St. Nicholas Church, South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, and Teamsters Local 401, Wilkes-Barre.

He and his wife, the former Mary C. Steininger, celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on Jan. 9.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline Charneski.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters , Michelle Harenza, Hanover Township; Mary Lou Thompson, Wilkes-Barre; Susan Malacarne, at home; sons , Paul John Malacarne, Forty Fort; William Malacarne, at home; sister, Beverly Christ, Carlisle; brother, James Malacarne, Wilkes-Barre; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Northeast Health and Hospice Care.

Malone, Michael

March 5, 2000

Michael Andrew Malone, 38, of Columbia Avenue, Newton, Hanover Township, died Sunday at his home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of Thomas J. Malone, of Sugar Notch, and the late Joan (Carlin) Malone. He graduated from Bishop Hoban High School in 1979 and attended the University of Scranton. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church and Holy Family Church, both in Sugar Notch; a mobile unit assistant for the American Red Cross, Hanover Township; and a member of several area dart leagues.

Surviving are his wife, the former Dale Yourren; son, Michael James, at home; brother, Thomas P., Sugar Notch; sisters , Mary Malone Sparks, Glenside; Ellen A. Malone, Sugar Notch; and Joan E. Malone, Mountaintop; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Thursday from the Leo P. Lehman Funeral Home, 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Charles Borromeo Church. The Rev. John Terry and the Rev. Louis Grippi will officiate. Interment will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Sugar Notch. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorial donations to the Michael James Malone Education Fund may be made at the funeral home.

MALORZO, THOMAS

October 1, 1999

Thomas Malorzo, 84, a resident of the Colonial Apartments in Rome, N.Y., died Friday after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 30, 1915, in Rome, N.Y., he was a son of the late Marco Malorzo and Amalia DiNofrio. He attended schools in Rome.

He worked for Rome Manufacturing for many years and also for the Rome School System. He later retired from the maintenance department at Mohawk Garden Apartments in Rome.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne, whom he married in 1936; and brothers , Joseph, James, Lee and Louis.

Surviving are his daughters , Marlene Cacozza, Dallas; and Brenda Foglia, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; sons , Gerald, Rochester, N.Y.; and Mark, Rome, N.Y.; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted from the Nicholas J. Bush Funeral Home, Inc., 218 W. Court St., Rome, N.Y.; and from St. John the Baptist Church in Rome. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery in Rome.

Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund at St. John the Baptist Church, 200 E. Dominick St., Rome, N.Y. 13440.

DANIEL MANCINI

Daniel D. Mancini, 76, of Mount Holly, N.J., and formerly of Wilkes-Barre died Thursday at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly.

Born in Italy in 1922, he came to the United States when he was five.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a retired estimator for the U.S. Civil Service at Pomona, N.J., McGuire Air Force Base and Fort Dix.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Mount Holly where he was head usher, ran Bingo for many years and was past president of the parish Holy Name Society.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served three terms as Grand Knight of the Santa Maria Council 1179 in Mount Holly. He was past Faithful Navigator of the John Tathum Assembly 4th degree Knights of Columbus, past president of the Trenton Diocese Holy Name Society and was District Deputy of the New Jersey Knights of Columbus.

He was a member of Mount Holly Lodge 848 BPOE, Mount Holly American Legion Post 11 and was chairman of the Mount Holly Township Zoning Board.

Surviving are his wife, Stefana; sons : Angelo Mancini and Dr. Daniel J. Mancini, both of Mount Holly; and sister, Michelina (Mary) Policare, Quakertown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Church at High Street and Bartram Avenue in Mount Holly.

Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hainesport, N.J.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Arrangements are by the Perinchief Chapels, 438 High St., Mount Holly.

MANGANELLA, HENRY

September 16, 1999

Henry P. Manganella, 95, of Altoona, formerly of Kingston, died Thursday at the Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital in Altoona.

Born April 1, 1904, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Carmine and Carmella (Paluse) Manganella.

He resided in Kingston for most of his life, and had resided in Altoona for the last seven years.

He was employed as a plumber for various local plumbing contractors for more than 50 years before retiring 28 years ago.

He was a lifetime member of the Plumbers Union, Local 524 in Scranton. He was affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elizabeth May Sawyer; brother, John; and sisters , Theresa Bowman and Marie Brown.

Surviving are his sons , Richard H., Kingston; Robert P., Altoona; and Ronald J., Las Vegas; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, George, Wilkes-Barre.

A private memorial service will be at the convenience of the family from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., corner of state routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, Lake Township, with the Rev. Scott Manganella, director of Precious Life, Inc., officiating.

MANTA, SAM

October 6, 1999

Sam Manta, of Jackson Street in Swoyersville died Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital shortly after admission.

Born in West Wyoming, he was a son of Anna Randazzo Manta and the late Sam Manta.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Luzerne.

Before his retirement, he was employed as a Manager of the Sheridan Apartments in Wilkes-Barre.

He was a member of the Holy Name Society of St. Ann's Church, the Millochessi Society and the West Wyoming Senior Citizens.

Surviving are his wife, the former Marie Hometchko; daughter, Patricia, Swoyersville; sons , Richard, Chase, Jackson Township; John, Germany; Joseph, Etters; and Jude, Swoyersville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Sally McBride, Forestville, Md.; and brother, Joseph, Flowerton.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday from the Lehman-Gregory Funeral Home, Inc., 281 Chapel St., Swoyersville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at noon in Sacred Heart Church.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. There will be a wake service today.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Joseph Markowski

April 18, 1998

Joseph Markowski, of Valley Street, Exeter, died Saturday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Carl and Mary Markowski.

He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Wyoming.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a truck driver for Phoenix Trucking for 28 Years.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member and past commander of the VFW, Exeter.

He was the founder of the Emanon Country Club where he also served as past president.

He was a member of the Cosmopolitan Senior Citizens, Exeter.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Shetlosky.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Ann Benowski; sons Michael, Camp Hill; Joseph, New Hampshire; Tony and John, at home; Albert, Plains; daughters Rosemary, Wilkes-Barre; Ann Toole, Wilkes-Barre; Kathy Shaffer, New Jersey; 12 grandchildren; sister, Sophie Ramus, Harrisburg; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday from the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Wyoming.

Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, West Wyoming.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

Wake service will be conducted Monday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CYC of the Wyoming Valley, 36 South Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, or to the Boy Scouts of America, Exeter Troop, Lincoln Street, Exeter 18643.
