LAUBACH, ALFRED

October 31, 1999

Alfred H. "Bub" Laubach, 81, of Benton Township, died Sunday at the Orangeville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where he was a resident for 13 months. He was in ill health for the past three years.

Born Nov. 15, 1917, in Asbury, he was the son of the late Alfred Gwynn and Florence (Eveland) Laubach.

He attended the Millville schools.

A lifelong farmer, he owned Lazy Acres Dairy Farm, Benton Township, for more than 50 years until he became ill. He also worked for Benton Wood Products for 10 years and the AC&F, Berwick, during World War II.

He was a member of the Benton United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, where he served as a board member and usher and rang the bells every Sunday for many years.

He was past president of the Columbia County Extension; Benton Township Auditor; member of the local board of the G.L.F., Columbia County Soil and Water Conservation, Agway Petroleum Board, Northeastern Guernsey Breeders Association and the Benton Grange for many years.

He and his wife, Beryl Louise (Davis) Houseweart Laubach, celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary on July 23.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of more than 40 years, Edith Manetta (Karns) Laubach; siblings, Darwood, Morris and George Gwynn "Junior" Laubach; Esther Wilson; Richard and Fred Laubach, both in infancy.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Edward J. Laubach, Benton Township; daughter, Shirley A. Kitchen, Benton Township; step son, George W. Houseweart, Allentown; step daughter, Judy R. Wenner, Benton; siblings, Betty J. Ash and Jack Laubach, both of Benton; Charles Laubach, Elizabethtown; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday from McMichael Funeral Home, Route 487, Benton, with the Rev. James F. Kremer, of Benton United Methodist Church, and the Rev. William N. Lukesh, of Forty Fort Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Benton Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Lee, Margaret

January 1, 2000

Margaret (Stefanski) Lee, 61, of Hanover Village, Hanover Township, died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born July 10, 1938, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Margaret (Williams) Stefanski.

She was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre.

She was employed by French Steak Co., Swoyersville, before she became ill.

She was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church, Lee Park, Hanover Township.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Jesse Kochinski.

Surviving are her sons , Stanley Stefanski, Exeter; Scott Stefanski, Pittston; Todd Stefanski, Wilkes-Barre; daughters , Tammy and Tracy Stefanski and Sherry Kochinski, all of Wilkes-Barre; Terri Stefanski, Edwardsville; companion, Eugene Suda, with whom she resided; sisters , Cassie Hutch, Tunkhannock; Joan Swithers, Wilkes-Barre; brothers , Joseph Stefansky and Robert Stefanski, both of Wilkes-Barre; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from McLaughlin Funeral Service, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Robert A. Boyar, her pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Lenahan, Edward V.

February 18, 2000

Edward V. Lenahan, 76, of Dallas, formerly of the North End section of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday in the Hospice Community Care In-patient Unit at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late James and Marie Conway Lenahan. A 1941 graduate of GAR High School, Wilkes-Barre, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service, starting as a mail carrier in 1948 and retiring in 1981 as supervisor of night shift of the Wilkes-Barre Post Office. He was a member of the Parish Community of Sacred Heart-St. John's Church, Wilkes-Barre, and was a member of the Holy Name Society and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Wilkes-Barre.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Schwab, with whom he celebrated 54 years of marriage Sept. 8; daughter, Anne Marie Lenahan, Dallas; sons , Edward, Joppatown, Md.; and Robert, Dallas; five grandchildren; and brothers , James, Fairless Hills; and Joseph, Doraville, Ga.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Lenahan, and sister, Mary Davis.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday from the Corcoran Funeral Home, Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John's Church, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Community Care, Kingston.

LEWIS, CARRIE

November 9, 1999

Carrie Shook Lewis, 91, a resident of the Wesley Village Retirement Community on Roberts Road in Pittston, formerly of Mount Zion Road in the Harding section of Exeter Township, died Tuesday.

Born Jan. 30, 1908, in West Pittston, she was a daughter of the late Lewis L. and Mary (Nielson) Shook.

She was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary and a longtime member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church.

She and her husband, the late G. Wesley Lewis, had operated the Lewis Peach Orchard on Mount Zion Road in Harding.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Martha Lewis Whitley.

Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn Lewis Jenkins, Alexandria, Va.; sister, Marian Rozelle, Sun City, Ariz.; three grandchildren: and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Mount Zion Cemetery. The Rev. Jackson Cox, of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, will officiate.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Frank A. Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.

Lewis, Miriam

April 29, 2000

Miriam (Seymour) Lewis, 83, a resident of Mercy Care Center, Dallas, died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born June 14, 1916, in Tyrone, she was a daughter of the late John and Molly (Kellar) Seymour.

She was a graduate of Tyrone High School.

She was an administrative assistant for the public broadcasting station at Pennsylvania State University.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Miles; sisters , Sister M. Thaddea Seymour, RSM; and Elsie and Eileen Seymour; and brothers , the Rev. James McCort Seymour, OSA; and John, Patrick, George and Gerald Seymour.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Louise Welch, Houston; son, David G., Brookfield, Conn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Blessed Sacrament Chapel at Mercy Center, Dallas.

Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park, State College.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to sisters of Mercy, P.O. Box 369, Dallas, Pa. 18612.

Arrangements are by the E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.

Little, Hannah

February 22, 2000

Hannah (Ruth) Little, 86, of Medford, N.J., died Tuesday at her home.

Born in Luzerne, she lived in New York and New Jersey most of her life. She was a registered nurse at Willow Brook State School and previously at St. Vincent's Hospital, both in Staten Island, N.Y.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Little.

Surviving are her children, James, Mount Laurel, N.J.; and Ron, Medford Lakes, N.J.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and brothers , Edward, York; Donald, Gambrille, Md.; and Jack, Stuart, Fla.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Bradley Funeral Home, Route 73 and Evesham Road, Marlton, N.J., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Lakes Church, Jackson Road, Medford. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Moorsetown, N.J. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday. Memorial donations may be made to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eves Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053.

KAY ANN LITTLE

Kay Ann (Williams) Little, 56, of South Sprague Avenue, Kingston died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Dec. 23, 1942, in Kingston, she was the daughter of the late Reese and Ann O'Brien Williams.

She was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1960, and a lifelong resident of Kingston.

She was a former member of the Church of Christ United, Sprague Avenue and Market Street, Kingston.

She and her husband, Warren, celebrated 33 years of marriage November 20.

She was preceded in death by her sisters , Dorothy Ann Williams and Sally Rittel.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are sons , David, Dallas Township; Steven and Clifford, both at home; daughters , Anna Little, Kingston; Amy Little, at home; brother, William Williams, Forty Fort; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the George A. Strish Funeral Home, 269 Bennett Street, Luzerne, with the Rev. Dr. James L. Harring, of Pastoral Care of the Church of Christ United, Kingston, officiating.

Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Memorial Highway, Dallas.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Loftus, Mary Alice

March 3, 2000

Mary Alice (Hannon) Loftus, 91, died Friday at the Absecon Manor, Absecon, N.J., where she was a guest.

Born Nov. 2, 1908, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late John and Agnes Hannon. She attended local schools and resided in Albany, N.Y., for many years. Upon returning to the Wilkes-Barre area, she resided at the Gateway Apartments, Edwardsville. She was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, Wilkes-Barre, and its Altar & Rosary Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Loftus; brother, John Hannon; and sister, Anna Rundel.

Surviving are her sister, Catherine Corcoran, Somers Point, N.J.; and three nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Hugh P. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 333 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with Monsignor Thomas V. Banick officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Church.

Long, Rebecca

March 29, 2000

Rebecca O. Long, 72, of East Third Street, Nescopeck, died Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Feb. 15, 1928, in Dallas, she was a daughter of the late William and Ann (Reynolds) Smith. She attended Muhlenburg United Methodist Church. She was a guitar music teacher and played in the Bill Long Orchestra.

Surviving are her husband, William T.; daughter, Nancy Oman, Orangeville; sons , James R., Berwick; and Rand, Falls Church, Va.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters , Eleanor DeRemer, Florida; Carolyn Bynon, Dallas; and Kate Titus, Shickshinny.

She was preceded in death by her sisters , Marion Wolfe and Dorothy Kibler; and brother, John Smith.

Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday from the Clarke Piatt Funeral Home, Inc., Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. James Davis officiating. Interment will be in the Bloomingdale Cemetery, Bloomingdale. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania , 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre.
