MARTIN RICHARD PRYTHERCH
Martin R. Prytherch, 58, of Irwin, died Friday, April 21, 2000, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born April 15, 1942, in Wilkinsburg, the beloved son of the late Benjamin and Effie Prytherch. Brother of Leah Bergstrom and her husband, Robert, of Allison Park, Marion Kappler and her husband, Bill, of Surprise, Ariz., and Dorothy Devroude of Woodlands, Texas ; and sister-in-law, Ruth Prytherch of New York and her husband, the late Benjamin Prytherch Jr. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. Martin served as a special education teacher for 25 years in Wilkinsburg, Three Springs and Hempfield. He was presently working for Spee-D Mart and as a security guard. In his young adult years he was a library aide at the Wilkinsburg Public Library, and an assistant at the Children's Home of Pittsburgh. He served in many church capacities at Ross Avenue, South Avenue, First Church, Irwin and Herminie #2 United Methodist churches. He was a dean at Jumonville each summer at CAT Camp. As a community volunteer worker, he served as a volunteer fireman in Three Springs, and was an EMS worker in Hempfield Township. In his usual giving spirit, he was an organ donor. Visitation will be held in the NEELY FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw, Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. Friends will also be received Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 310 Oak St., Irwin, where his funeral service will be held with the Rev. Frank Sherman officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Tarrs.
CHARLES J. SAINT
Charles J. "Chuck" Saint, 71, of Jeannette, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at his residence. He was born Jan. 29, 1929, in Jeannette, a son of the late Florence Hower Saint and the late Charles E. Saint. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Polish Club of Jeannette and the former Jeannette Glass. He was a member of the Polish Brotherhood of White Eagles and American Legion Post #344, both of Jeannette. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, having served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Lois Lowery Saint. Surviving are a sister, Esther (Saint) Elias of Georgia, formerly of Jeannette; a brother, Paul M. Elias and his wife, Adelaide, of Jeannette; nieces, Edna Mae Hall and husband, Robert, of Enigma, Ga., and Beverly Saint of Arlington, Va.; great-nieces and nephew, Mrs. Donald (Christina) Childs of Senoia, Ga., Donald Straley of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. David (Kimberly) Harris of Senoia, Ga.; great-niece and nephews, Joshua Hunter Childs, Nicholas Trent Childs, Hope Naomi Harris, and Brandon Hugh Harris; and a close friend, Lois Zaleski. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at noon with Pastor Henry Taliercio officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by the Jeannette Combined Veterans will follow in Jeannette Memorial Park, Penn Township. DOROTHY L. (BERGGREN) SHOTTS
Dorothy L. "Dot" (Berggren) Shotts, 79, of Wadsworth, Ohio, died Friday, April 21, 2000, in Akron General Medical Center after a brief illness. Born March 23, 1921, in Huntington, Ind., Dot made her home in Wadsworth for 36 years, previously residing in Jeannette. She graduated from high school in Sidney, Neb., and attended the Opportunity School for Artists in Denver, Colo., and the Kansas City Art Institute. For many years, Dot was a freelance commercial artist for newspapers and magazines in Pennsylvania . She and her husband, Jim, were active at the Trinity United Church of Christ, commonly found greeting people at the services, visiting and shuttling members at nursing homes and providing community services for the Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital Auxiliary and American Legion Post 170 Auxiliary. Dot is survived by her husband, James E., with whom she celebrated their 55th anniversary on April 8; two sons and daughters -in-law, Gary and Rosalie of Columbus, Ohio, and Terry and Jeanne of Cowansville, Pa.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Al Berggren of Denver, Colo.; and sisters -in-law, Gretchen Strosko of Alverton, Pa., and Polly Berggren of Maryville, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Knute and Goldie (Miller) Berggren; and a brother, Fred Berggren. Marylin Stepusin, 57, of Rankin, on Friday, April 21, 2000. Beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Lesko) Stepusin. Sister of Dorothy and Helen Stepusin of Rankin, Joseph (Charlotte) of North Carolina, and Richard (Cookie) of North Huntingdon. aunt of Joseph, Susan, Dale, Chris, Ricky and Randy; and five great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorial service for Edna P. Stevenson, 72, of Bloomingdale, Ga., formerly of Greensburg, will be held Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at the Armbrust Wesleyan Church, Route 819. Betty V. Walthour, 76, of Greensburg RD11, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. She was born March 24, 1924, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late John and Nellie Frye Hays. She was retired from the G.C. Murphy Co., Greengate Mall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Walthour; a son, Rodney A. Walthour; a brother, William Hays; and a grandson. She is survived by three daughters , Mrs. Warren (Virginia) L. Hays Saylor of Greensburg RD11, Mrs. Charles (Patricia) Gunther of Greensburg RD11 and Mrs. Richard (Kathy) Poole of Greensburg RD5; two sons , Robert E. Walthour II and wife, Cynthia, of New Stanton and Paul E. Walthour of Greensburg RD11; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers , John Hays and wife, Ann, of Latrobe and Walter Hays and wife, Dolores, of New Stanton; a sister-in-law, Mrs. William (Betty) Brown of Greensburg RD11; and a number of nieces and nephews. RAY PAUL ATWELL
Ray Paul Atwell, 58, of Woodland, Calif., a former resident of the Norwin community, died Friday, March 24, 2000, in California. He was born March 4, 1942, in Wilkinsburg, a son of Ray B. Atwell of Farmington Hills, Mich., and the late Bessie "Betty" Jane Lehmann Atwell. He attended Circleville and Scull schools in the Norwin School District, before moving away. He was a graduate of Bucknell University, Lewisburg, and was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Fraternity. He was an engineer for the Apollo Space Program, Cape Canaveral, Fla.; and was a U.S. Navy lieutenant veteran, serving aboard the Nuclear Cruiser USS Long Beach. Following service, he worked for Mobile Chemicals as a project engineer in California. At the time of his death, he was an environmental engineer for Corn Products International, Stockton, Calif. Also, he was an Eagle Scout. In addition to his Father , he is survived by his wife, Vicki Atwell; a son, Brett Atwell of Davis, Calif.; and a brother, William (Scherry) Atwell. LORRAINE PEACE AXE
Lorraine Peace Axe, 64, of Export, formerly of Blairsville, on Saturday, April 22, 2000, in IHS at Mountain View, Unity Township. She was a daughter of James C. and Lorretta Ames Peace, born Dec. 14, 1935, in Saltsburg. Mrs. Axe was a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Blairsville. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the former Federal Laboratories in Tunnelton. Surviving are her son, Randy Axe of Export; two daughters , Linda Ruffner of Export and Karen Raupach of Slickville; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two brothers , James A. of Niles, Ohio, and Samuel H. of Delmont; and two sisters , Betty Bakich of Blairsville and Dorothy Oliver of Greensburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald D. Axe, in 1986; and a son, Ronald Dean Axe. The family will receive friends at the RICHARD L. SHOEMAKER FUNERAL HOME, 49 N. Marguerite "Peg" Cameron, 88, of Greensburg, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born April 16, 1912, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Harry Hamilton Sr. and Henrietta Detar Hamilton. She was a retired employee of Gee Bee Department Store in Greensburg, retiring in 1977. She had been a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active with the First Presbyterian Church Sewing Circle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert O. Cameron; and brother-in-law, William Cable. Surviving are her son, Robert Cameron of Greensburg; a brother, Harry Hamilton Jr. and wife, Betty, of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Cable of Greensburg; a grandson, Rob Cameron of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was born March 23, 1897, in Leanize, Italy, a daughter of the late Gaetano and Guiedtto Zelli. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church and Columbia Ladies Mutual. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sante "Sam" Pardi; two daughters , Julia Kucenic and Margaret Hasse; and several brothers and sisters . Survived by a son, Joseph S. Pardi of Euclid, Ohio; two daughters , Florence Liddell and husband, Walter, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mary Hinton and husband, Dayne, of Palmdale, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a brother, Vincent Zelli of Italy; and several nieces and nephews. Jane Kirk Robinson, 77, of Pitcairn, passed peacefully into eternity early Easter Sunday morning, April 23, 2000. Devoted wife of William T. Robinson; beloved mother of JoAnn (husband, Vincent) Dzierski of Bridgeville, David Kirk Robinson and Jane (husband, Clair) Thomas, both of Pitcairn; sister of the late Orville D. Kirk; grandmother of Kevin, Douglas, Kellie, Emily and Ian; great-grandmother of Tommy, Madeline, Adam and Jack. Jane graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 and enjoyed a career in nursing that spanned more than 50 years, ending with her retirement from Forbes Nursing Center in 1993. WILLIAM J. RUETTGER
William J. Ruettger, 78, of Henry Street, Belle Vernon, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, in the Mon Valley Hospital Inc., Carroll Township. Born in Jeannette, Feb. 15, 1922, he was the son of the late Elmer and Agnes (Joyce) Ruettger. Mr. Ruettger was a 30-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police. He was a life member and past president of the Pennsylvania State Police Retirees Association of Pennsylvania and a life member of the Jeannette Elks Club #486. He was a member of the F.O.P. Lodge #47 with the National Trail Lodge, the VFW Post #699, Belle Vernon, Jeannette American Legion Post #344, Belle Vernon Lions Club, F&AM Lodge #643, Belle Vernon. He received his 14th Degree from the Uniontown Lodge and his 32nd Degree from Coudersport Consistory. He served five years in the U.S. Army Air Corps 8th Air Force during World War II, where he was stationed in England. He was a member of the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church, Rostraver Township. He is survived by his stepson, Arthur D. Turner of Pittsburgh; a stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Debra C. and Donald Leeper of North Wales, Pa.; and a sister, Betty Cutler of Diamond Head, Miss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Ruettger, on Oct. 6, 1999. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JAMES C.
