NELLIE KMETZ

Nellie Kmetz, 86, formerly of Watkins Street in Swoyersville, died Monday at Hospice Care of the VNA of Luzerne County Unit at the Heritage House in Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Hughestown, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Smith) Tecoske.
She resided on Watkins Street in Swoyersville for more than 50 years.
She was formerly employed by Marianacci's Restaurant in Wyoming; Consolidated Cigar Co., West Wyoming; and General Cigar Co., Kingston, for more than 40 years.
She was a member of Holy Name/St. Mary's Parish Community in Swoyersville.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Soboleski; second husband, Michael Kmetz; brother, Frank Tecoske; sisters , Betty Farr and Catherine Simmons.
Surviving are her daughter, Alice Zalewski, Allentown; step daughter, Lauretta Lombardo, Harrisburg; step son, Michael Kmetz, Harrisburg; two grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Name/St. Mary's Church, Swoyersville.
Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery in Shavertown, Kingston Township.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Edward Knapp
May 20, 1998
Edward J. Knapp, 73, of Sweet Valley, Fairmount Township, died Wednesday at home.
Born Feb. 2, 1925, in Newark, N.J., he was the son of the late Edward and Loretta Douglas Knapp.
He was self-employed as a carpenter for many years, retiring 10 years ago.
He also owned and operated the former Sit'n Bull Inn in Fairmount Township and the former Dew Drop Inn, Harveys Lake.
He was a Navy Veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Christ the King Church, Benton, where he served as an usher.
He was also a member of the Carpenter's Local 514, Wilkes-Barre; the Knights of Columbus Council 10882, Benton; the Veterans of Foreign Wars Fort Ricketts Post 8317, Benton.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian O'Boyle, and a grandson, Mark Vorhees.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Mary Elizabeth Lyons; a son, Edward J. Knapp Sr., Waterton, N.Y.; daughters , Joyce Vorhees, Hurricane, W. Va.; Kathleen Schuster, Wall, N.J.; Mary Ellen Sacco, Freehold, N.J.; a brother, William Knapp, Kennelworth, N.J.; a sister, Alyce Walsh, Lakewood, N.J.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday from Christ the King Church, Mendenhall Lane, Benton.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, Kingston Township.

KNIGHT, ROBERT
December 10, 1999
Robert S. Knight, of Simpson Street in Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born Oct. 5, 1918, in Ashley, he was the son of the late Raymond and Margaret Evans Knight.
Before retiring he was an office manager at the warehouse for the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 132 in Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Knight; and sister, Marion Altemose.
Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Weaver; daughter, Sandy Jones, Wilkes-Barre; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Frederick & Snowdon Funeral Home, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Sandy Piccone, of the First Assembly of God Church in Wilkes-Barre, officiating.
Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross or to the American Diabetes Association.
Knorr, Josephine

Josephine Knorr, 95, of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre.

Knuth, Grace

Grace (Stimal) Knuth, 100, died Wednesday at Wesley Village, Jenkins Township.
Born Dec. 3, 1899, in Buffalo, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late William and Julia (Burgnon) Stimal.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Raymond; and sister, Mabel Walsh.
Surviving are her daughter, Andrea Brandt, Trucksville; son, Roger, Philadelphia; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with the Rev. Wesley Kemp of Wesley Village officiating.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday.
Entombment will be Wednesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, N.Y.
KOBESKI, FRANCES
December 12, 1999
Frances (Pavilonis) Kobeski, of Dana Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at the Mercy Special Care Hospital, Nanticoke.
Born Aug. 19, 1921, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Frances (Yurgaitis) Pavilonis.
She resided in the Wilkes-Barre area her entire life and was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, East South Street, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; an infant son; and brothers and sisters .
Surviving are her sister, Anna Paluchowski, Wilkes-Barre; brother, Walter Pavilonis, Hackettstown, N.J.; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 27 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
There will be no calling hours.
Kocher, Derwood

Derwood A. Kocher, 71, of Mooretown, formerly of Lake Township, died Wednesday at home.
Born May 10, 1929, in Hunlock Township, he was a son of the late Azel Rodell and Mabel (Hunter) Kocher. He was a truck driver for Arco Auto Carriers, Chicago, Ill., and was a U.S. Army veteran of the
Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his brothers , Glenn and Kenneth; and sisters , Meryl Wagner and Audrey Stogoski.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Lois Baumbach; son, Robert, Chase, Jackson Township; daughters , Linda Feidt, Elizabethville; Darlene Hudak and Carolyn Rusonis, both of Sweet Valley; and Mildred Dingle, Shavertown, Kingston Township; nine grandchildren; brothers , Eugene, Kunkle; and Dale, Beaumont; sisters , Doris Smith, Shavertown; and Delores, Wyoming.
A Memorial Service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 26, from the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home, Inc., Pikes Creek, with the Rev. William Charles Naugle officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Pikes Creek. There will be no calling hours.
Susan Kociban

Susan Sacurowski Kociban, 95, of Arch Street, Glen Lyon, Newport Township, died Sunday at the Mercy Health Care Center, Sheatown.
She was born in Nacinaves, Czechoslovakia, Nov. 1, 1902, and came to the United States when she was 19. She settled in Glen Lyon and was a lifelong resident.
She was a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Church on Spring Street, Glen Lyon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, in 1939; daughter, Margaret Moore, in 1996; sisters Mary, Elizabeth and Anna; brother, John Sacurowski.
Surviving are her son, Michael, of Glen Lyon; daughter, Mrs. Anna Ozehowski, Glen Lyon; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from the George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 211 West Main St., Glen Lyon, with Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Byzantine Church, Spring Street, Glen Lyon.
Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Glen Lyon.
Parastas services will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home with Monsignor John T. Sekellick officiating.

Kolander, Mary

Mary A. (Draus) Kolander, 91, of the Browns section of Avoca, died Saturday at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born Oct. 6, 1908, in Avoca, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Anna (Mycek) Draus.
She worked in several local silk mills and retired from Rex Craft, Avoca.
She was a lifelong member of SS. Peter and Paul Church, Avoca, and its Altar and Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony B.; infant daughter, Ann Marie; grandchild, Leslie Swieboda; twin great-grandsons, Michael and Justin Swieboda; sisters , Katherine Koniecki, Nellie Zagula and Louise Hokien; and brother, Stanley Draus.
Surviving are her daughters , Dorothy B. Swieboda, Avoca, with whom she resided; and Celia B. Standish, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; son, John A., Moosic; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters , Helen Chrobak, Avoca; and Anna Chenausky, Hartford, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Kniffen-O'Malley Funeral Home Inc., 728 Main St., Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Church, with the Rev. Mark Bochinski officiating.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
