Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

BETTY JAFFEE

March 5, 1999

Betty Jaffee, of Porter Street in Easton died Friday at Easton Hospital.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Morris and Gertrude Lieb.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron.

Surviving are her sons , Sheldon, Miami; Bruce, Hopkinton, Mass.; and Myles, with whom she resided; five grandchildren; sisters , Roslyn Zatcoff and Judith Lieb, both of Kingston; and Florence Solomon, Florida; nephews and one niece.

Interment was in B'nai Abraham Cemetery in Easton. Arrangements were by Ashton Funeral Home in Easton.

Memorial donations may be made to the United Hebrew Institute in Kingston.

Jakoboski, Frances

March 5, 2000

Frances Jakoboski, of East State Street, Larksville, died Sunday at her home.

Born in Larksville, she was a daughter of the late John and Sophie (Trybulska) Salek. She was a lifelong resident of Larksville. She attended Larksville schools.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander.

Surviving are her sons , Robert, Forty Fort; and Thomas, White Haven; sister, Helen Motyka, Larksville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family from the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Dallas. There will be no calling hours.

JAKSINA, RONALD

October 28, 1999

Ronald G. Jaksina, 66, of Duryea, died Thursday at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Duryea, he was a son of Agnes (Dombroski) Jaksina, Duryea, and the late Stanley Jaksina.

He was a graduate of Duryea High School.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Before his retirement, he was employed by the Duryea Sewer Authority.

He was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, West Pittston.

Surviving are his wife, the former Joan Warunek; son, Ray Sekelsky, East Providence, R.I.; daughter, Lynn Jumper, Duryea; brother, Edward, Duryea; sister, Mary Ann Sweda, Throop; two grandchildren and one niece.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with the Rev. Donald Strope officiating.

Interment will be in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Moosic.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Jenkins, Robert

March 6, 2000

Robert "Ted" E. Jenkins, 66, of Marlton, formerly of Plymouth Township and Woodlynne, N.J., died Monday at his home.

He was born in Coaldale. He was a member of Local 106 International Union of Electrical Workers.

Surviving are his wife, Linda S. (Boyer) Jenkins, Marlton; daughters , Colleen O., Beverly, Maine; and Christine C., Marlton; and brother, Daniel O., Milford, Del.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Faith J. Vekony.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Bradley Funeral Home, Rt. 73 and Evesham Road, Marlton, N.J. Interment will be in Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill, N.J. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bradley Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the Lighthouse Hospice, 2 Executive Campus Suite, 105 Rt. 70 and Cuthbert Blvd., Cherry Hill, N.J. 08002.

JERRYTONE, DR.JOSEPH

October 28, 1999

Joseph I. F. Jerrytone, of Lake Street, Dallas, died Thursday at his home.

Born July 17, 1945, in Nanticoke, he was a son of Lottie Wadas and Sebastian Jerrytone of Dawes Avenue, Kingston.

He was a graduate of Kingston High School, Wilkes College, and received a DMD for the University of Pennsylvania Dental School in 1971.

He earned numerous, commendations, and extra degrees throughout is dental medicine career.

In 1972, he established his practice at 3 E. Main St., Plymouth, three months before the Agnes Flood and again in 1973, after recovering from the devastation of his office.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife of 31 years, Carol; children, Jeffrey and Jennifer, Dallas; and Christopher, California; a brother, Thomas; and a niece and nephew.

Private arrangements are being made by the family and a memorial mass will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ignatius Church, 339 N. Maple Ave., Kingston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Joseph I.F. Jerrytone Memorial Fund, 157 Lake Street, Dallas, 18612.

Jerzak, Mary

January 7, 2000

Mary M. Jerzak of South Hancock Street in Wilkes-Barre died Friday in the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

Funeral arrangements will be announced from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre.

Walter Johnson

May 18, 1998

Walter R. Johnson, 71, of Kulp Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Monday in Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Albert C. and Edith Elizabeth Colston Johnson.

He graduated from Coughlin High school, Wilkes-Barre, in 1944.

He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II, including Iwo Jima and Okinawa.

He worked in the railroad industry for more than 40 years, first with the Lehigh Valley Railroad as a telegrapher, dispatcher, towerman and freight agent at Coxton Yards, Gracedale and Ransom. He later worked at the Conrail System at Coxton Yards, Gracedale, Ransom and Mehoopany, retiring in 1988.

He was also a volunteer at Steamtown National Historic Site, Scranton, for several years following his retirement.

He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Wilkes-Barre, where he was a former member of the church's Consistory and youth adviser.

He was also a member of the Transportation and Communications International Union for many years.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Johnson.

Surviving are his wife of almost 50 years, the former Betty Jane Rogal, at home; son, W. Richard Johnson, West Wyoming; daughters Mrs. Pamela J. Cote, Wilkes-Barre; Mrs. Elizabeth A. Zbegner, Loch Haven; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday from St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 471 North Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Gary Jones officiating.

Cremation will be in Maple Hill Crematory, Hanover Township.

Friends may call at St. Luke's Church from 2 to 4 and 7 p.m. to time of service Wednesday.

Friends may call at the church following the service Wednesday evening.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 471 North Main St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.

Arrangements are by the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 451 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre.

Walter Jokubonis

May 22, 1998

Walter M. Jokubonis, a guest at Davis Manor Personal Care, Mountaintop, died Friday at home.

Born April 18, 1918, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Wenslof Jokubonis.

He attended GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre, and resided in New York for most of his life.

Before he retired in 1983, he was employed as an inspector at the General Motors Corp. Plant in Buffalo, N.Y., for 40 years.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was stationed on the USS Portland, which was bombed by the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. He was one of the first veterans from the Wilkes-Barre area to be listed as missing in action in Pearl Harbor. He also served at Guadalcanal and the Pacific Theater during the war.

He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps and was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Leo, and a sister, Stella Cosgrove Nekrasz.

Surviving are a brother, Joseph, Mountaintop; a sister, Dolores Olshefski, Wilkes-Barre; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church.

Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Bear Creek Township.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Northeast Health & Hospice Care Inc., 38 N. Main St., Pittston.

Jones, Howard

March 4, 2000

Howard S. Jones, 90, of Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born June 25, 1909, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late John E. and Emma (Steidinger) Jones.

He attended Wilkes-Barre schools and the Girard School, Philadelphia.

He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in north Africa, Italy and France and attaining the rank of major. He was awarded a Purple Heart medal. He also served with the 109th Field Artillery for two years before the war.

He worked as a supervising construction foreman for Bell of Pennsylvania in Williamsport and later in Wilkes-Barre.

He was a member of St. Clement's and St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre, the Telephone Pioneers of America, Landmark Masonic Lodge 442, Wilkes-Barre, Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg, and the Irem Temple, where he served as golf chairman.

He was preceded in death by his brothers , Edward R., Walter E. and Harry E.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Edith Hiller; daughter, Linda J. Davis, Nanticoke; Son, Howard S. Jr., Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren; sisters , Irene H. Oliver, Wilkes-Barre; and Alice Claire Price, Owego, N.Y.; brother, John W.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 420 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, with the Rev. Joseph F. Meier of St. Nicholas Church, Wilkes-Barre, officiating.

Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Landmark Lodge 442 will conduct Masonic services at 8 p.m.
