CLARA ROMAYNE SLOAN
Clara Romayne Sloan, 77, of Level Green, died Friday, April 21, 2000, in Woodhaven Care Center, Monroeville. She was born May 11, 1922, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Josiah Stevenson and Goldie Carns McFarland. She was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church in Trafford, where she taught Sunday school for 17 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert McLeod Sloan. She is survived by a son, Robert Sloan of Youngstown, Ohio; three daughters , Carol Sloan of Pittsburgh, Patty Sloan and Amy Sloan, both of Monroeville; a brother, Charles "Bud" McFarland of Greensburg; three sisters , Helen McFarland of Greensburg, Genevieve Mottin of Nanty Glo and Betty Bower of Seattle, Wash.; and two grandchildren, Robert Clyde Sloan and Jennifer Lynn Sloan. Friends will be received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. D. Christopher Livermore officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
ANDREW GEORGE SOFRAN
Andrew George Sofran, 90, of Bentleyville, formerly of Charleroi and Port Vue, died Friday, April 21, 2000, in Mon Valley Hospital Inc., Carroll Township. Born in Donora Oct. 30, 1909, he was a son of the late Andrew and Anna (Diken) Sofran. Mr. Sofran attended Donora and Rostraver High School. He worked as a mechanic for Capitol Airlines in Washington , D.C., during World War II. He was a self-employed auto mechanic in Port Vue. He is survived by his two sons , Robert A. Sofran of Ocala, Fla., and Ray T. Sofran of Coal Center; two sisters , Velma Kosor of Speers and Sarah Pucel of Monongahela; five grandchildren, Maj. Gregory Sofran, Valarie Caprini, Christopher Sofran, Royce Sofran and Vanessa DeFilippo; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Berzonski; two brothers , John and Edward Sofran; and an infant son, Danny Lee Sofran. There will be no public visitation. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Rostraver Township. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Bentleyville Public Library, Main Street, Bentleyville, PA 15314. The JAMES C. Ann K. Tait, 81, on Thursday, April 20, 2000. Wife of John T. Tait. Sister of Mary Vattimo, Eva K. Williams, Nellie Janus, John Kulic, Steve Kulic and the late Mike Kulic. JAMES A. TRAVISANO
James A. "Jim" Travisano, 73, retired fire chief of the Wilmerding Volunteer Fire Department, died suddenly Wednesday, April 19, 2000. Jim was a lifelong resident of Wilmerding Borough, and a lifelong servant to mankind as a cooperative and dedicated volunteer. He graduated from W.M.H.S. and entered the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked at the WABCO plant, retiring as a pipe fitter. Jim was chief of the Wilmerding Fire Department for a total of 14 years, but served the fire department consecutively for 45 years. During his tenure as chief, Jim received numerous commendations from national, state, and local officials. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Wilmerding EMS and Eastern Area PHS; a member of the VFW and the Italian-American War Veterans. He was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Church, where he served as an usher. His leisure passion was gardening and he was considered by many to be a master of it. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Michelina. He is survived by sisters , Christine and Val Travisano and Philomena (late John) Palmieri; and brothers , Nick (Mary), Peter (Connie), Paul (Suzanne) and Joseph (Linda) Travisano; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Jude the Apostle Church. MICHAEL BOSKO
Michael Bosko, 77, of Charleroi, entered into rest Saturday, April 22, 2000, in UPMC Shadyside, after a lengthy illness. He was born March 29, 1923, in Monongahela, a son of the late Michael Sr. and Anna Druggan Bosko. He was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of Charleroi, the VFW, American Legion Post #22, Elks Lodge #294, and St. John the Baptist Russian Society, all of Charleroi. He was also a member of the North Charleroi French and Slovak Clubs. A 1941 graduate of Monongahela High School, he served during World War II as a Tech 5 in Battery B, 501st Anti Aircraft Artillery Unit, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, receiving the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal as an M1 Rifle Expert. Mr. Bosko retired as store manager for the PLCB after 43 years of service in the Mon Valley area. Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Cherok Bosko of Charleroi, with whom he would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on May 20; two daughters and sons -in-law, Michelle and Louis Gajewski of Greensburg and Barbara and David Deavers of Sterling, Va.; three grandchildren, Jennifer and Benjamin Gajewski of Greensburg and Katherine Deavers of Sterling, Va.; a brother, George Bosko, and two sisters , Helen Yuschak and Olga Collin, all of Monongahela. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Eugene Bosko. HERBERT CARPENTER JR.
Herbert Carpenter Jr., 70, of Monessen, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at Inter-community Care at Washington , Pa. He was born Oct. 4, 1929, at Vanceburg, Ky., a son of the late Rufus Herbert Carpenter and Myrtle Elizabeth Porter Carpenter. He was a 1947 graduate of Lewis County High School in Vanceburg, Ky. On July 29, 1955, he married Ellen Virginia Danforth Carpenter, who survives. Mr. Carpenter retired from Mon River Towing in 1994. He was formerly employed by Ohio Barge Line and U.S. Steel. He was a veteran of the
Korean War, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps aboard the USS Wisconsin. He was a member of the Vanceburg, Ky., Methodist Church. He resided much of his life at Coal Center. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons , Herbert M. Carpenter of Waynesburg and Curtis L. Carpenter of Bridgeville; and five grandchildren, Leah O. Carpenter, Aaron L. Carpenter, Elizabeth H. Carpenter, Jesse C. Carpenter and Chelsea Carpenter. FRANCES M. MANNA COCO
Frances M. Manna Coco, 83, of Shaler Township, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at her residence. She was born Sept. 1, 1916, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Salvatore and Mary Laduca Manna. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters , Josephine, Sarah and Rita Manna; and two brothers , Frank and Ignatius Manna. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Sam A. Coco of Shaler Township; three sons , Samuel J. Coco of Shaler Township, Donald J. Coco of Hampton Township and Frank Coco of Saxonburg; a daughter, Lena F. Earles of North Canton, Ohio; two sisters , Nancy Manna and Angeline Imburgia, both of Highland Park; a brother, August Manna of Irwin; 14 grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Friends will be received Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the BOCK FUNERAL HOME LTD., 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw. Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. Sebastian Church. LOUIS DOMYANCIC JR.
Louis Domyancic Jr., 75, of Monessen, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, in Canonsburg Hospital, following an illness of three months. He was born in Monessen, Dec. 22, 1924, a son of the late Luke and Pepa (Turcic) Domyancic. He was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1943 graduate of Monessen High School. He was a graduate of California State Teachers College, and taught distributive education and woodshop at Monessen High School for a few years. In 1953, he opened the Louis Dodge Inc. automotive dealership in the Eastgate section of Monessen. In 1968, he moved the dealership to the Westgate section of Monessen and remained in business until 1980. In 1981, he became sales manager for Frank's Service Garage, Monessen, where he presently was employed. He was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus #954, a life member of the Croatian Home, a member of the Elks #773, the American Legion Post #28, and the VFW Post 1190, all of Monessen. He was also a member of the former Westmoreland County Capitol Pullman Club. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances (Yankosky) Domyancic, on April 25, 1975. Survivors include two sons , Louis A. Domyancic and Larry Domyancic, both of Monessen. Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC., 441 Reed Ave., Monessen. E. FRED LOCKARD
E. Fred Lockard, 98, of Greensburg, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. He was born Aug. 2, 1901, in Lisbon, a son of the late David W. and Mary Atwell Lockard. He started his career in Greybull, Wyo., with Standard Oil Co. and later moved to western Pennsylvania and was general manager of Peoples Natural Gas Co. before his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former member and director of the Greensburg Rotary Club, and a life member of the Greensburg Elks Lodge #511. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace Lockard; two brothers ; and two sisters . Surviving are his son, Fred W. Lockard and wife, Peggy, of Greensburg; grandchildren, Harry Byers Lockard and his wife, Kim, and Carol Lockard Dickerson and her husband, Spencer; great-grandchildren, Jason and Sarah Lockard and Rebecca Dickerson; and several nieces. His family was very important to him through the years. Friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Daniel "Dan" Mrdjenovich, 88, of Turtle Creek, died Saturday, April 22, 2000. A son of the late Steve and Stanka (Petrovich) Mrdjenovich. Husband of the late Ann (Vukasinovich) Mrdjenovich. Beloved Father of Mel and Robert Mrdjenovich. Brother of Nicholas and Charles Mrdjenovich, Mitzi Gibb, Melva Ligush, Walter Mrdjenovich and the late Donald and Milos Mrdjenovich, Diana Sonovick, Violet Lesnau, Michael, George and Joseph Mrdjenovich. Also eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Julia H. Newman, 80, of Jeannette, formerly of Yukon, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at her residence. She was born March 16, 1920, in Yukon, a daughter of the late George and Erma Agatucci Yopek. Julia was a member of the S.N.P.J. Lodge #583, Herminie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Stephen Fabian, and her second husband, Howard Newman. She is survived by two sisters , Evelyn Mullen and Genevieve Gresko, both of Jeannette; an aunt, Elizabeth Agatucci of Yukon; and two nieces, Marsha Lynn Gresko of San Diego, Calif., and Nancy Jean Gresko of Erie.
