GROMEL, HERBERT

Herbert D. Gromel Jr., 67, formerly of Bradford Street in Wilkes-Barre, died Tuesday at Valley Crest Nursing Home in Plains Township.
Born May 7, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Herbert D. and Margaret (Whint) Gromel Sr.
He was employed by the City of Wilkes-Barre in the Street Department.
He was a member of the Oak Grove Club in the Goose Island section of Wilkes-Barre.
He was a private with the 109th Field Artillery, and he served in the
Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his brothers , William and Emerson.
Surviving are his former wife, Gloria J. Gallagher; sons Herbert, Wilkes-Barre; and Franklin "Frank," Edwardsville; daughters , Margaret, Wilkes-Barre; and Barbara "Barb," Plains Township; five grandchildren; brother, Frank, Wilkes-Barre; sister, Margaret Whipp, York; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, Inc., 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Maple Hill Cemetery in Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to the time of services Thursday.
GUTTERMAN, ROSE
October 28, 1999
Rose Gutterman, of Hartsdale, N.Y., died Thursday at the Montefiore Hospital, Bronx, N.Y.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Sarah Bauer Gutterman.
She was employed as a bookkeeper at the Arthur Lazarus Wholesale Groceries in the Heights section of Wilkes-Barre.
She was a member of the Jewish Community Center and the United Orthodox Synagogue.
Surviving are her sister, Ruth Klein, Hartsdale, N.Y., and two nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rabbi Meir Rosenberg officiating.
Interment will be at Anshe Emes Cemetery, Plains Township.
MINNIE GWYNN
June 18, 1999
Minnie M. (Huber) Gwyn, a guest of the Taylor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on West Hospital Street in Taylor, formerly of West Grove Street in Taylor, died Friday at the Center.
She had settled at the Center four years ago.
Born in Taylor, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Minnie (Kocher) Huber.
She was educated in Taylor Schools and was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edward Gwyn; brothers , Carl and Elmer Huber; and sister, Hilda Ott.
Surviving are her niece, Ruth Reese, of Taylor.
Private funeral services will be conducted Monday at the convenience of the family in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main St., Old Forge. The Rev. Paul L. Williams, of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Taylor will officiate.
Interment will be private in Marcy Cemetery in Duryea.
There will be no public calling hours.
HAAS, WILLIAM
October 29, 1999
William C. Haas, 82, of the Valley Crest Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday in Wilkes-Barre Mercy Hospital.
Born Aug. 22, 1917, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late William J. Haas and Mary Adelia Durland Haas.
He was educated in the Carey Avenue, Wilkes-Barre School.
He was a former member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Durland Gilbert (Dodie) Haas.
Surviving are his brothers , Karl Haas, Plymouth; Ronald Haas, Allentown; and Stuart Haas, South Charleston, W. Va.
Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be scheduled in the future with a date to be announced.

Marian Habicht
March 6, 1998
Marian Agnes Walsh Habicht, formerly of Shickshinny, died March 6 at the Oaks Nursing Home, New Bedford, Mass., after a long illness.
Born in 1908 in Shickshinny, she was a daughter of the late John J. and Jennie McKennon Walsh.
She graduated from Kingston High School and attended Ryder College and the Katherine Gibbs school.
She was a secretary until her marriage in 1939 in Kingston.
Until 1953, she was a resident of Kingston, Wilkes-Barre, and Hazleton. She later lived in North Carolina, Maryland, western New York and Massachusetts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Habicht, in 1985.
Surviving are daughters , Louise, North Dartmouth, Mass.; and
Jennifer LeBlanc , Grand Island, N.Y.; a sister, Martha Stahl of Forty Fort.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. today in St. Ignatius Roman Catholic
Church in Kingston.
HADSALL, CARLTON
October 2, 1999
Carlton Bruce Hadsall, 82, of Shavertown, died at his home on Saturday, Oct. 2.
Born in Kingston Township, on Aug. 14, 1917, he was the son of the late Bruce Arthur and Cecile Smith Hadsall and step-mother , Nellie Elston Hadsall.
He was a graduate of Kingston Township High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the 109th Field Artillery.
Before his retirement, he was employed as a mechanic and welder for State Equipment, Bechtel Construction and Salem Township Power Plant.
He was a member of the I.U.O.E. and the Trucksville Volunteer Fire Co.
He and his wife, the former Goldie Belles, celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in February.
His sister, Louise Hadsall Lloyd, preceded him in death.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Caroll Hadsall, Shavertown; daughters and sons -in-law, Mrs. John (Louise) Webb, Dover, Del.; Mrs. Robert (Joanne) Walp, Royersford; Mrs. Dale (Brenda) Nygren, Sweet Valley; Mrs. James (Barbara) Bolton, Austin, Texas ; grandchildren, Bernard Phillips, Kristen Phillips, Meredith Walp Catino, Cara and Eric Nygren, Ray and Laura Hadsall; and two great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with Pastor Earl Nulton, of Faith Baptist Church, Fernbrook, officiating.
Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park in Dallas.
There will be no calling hours.

Haggerty, Thompson

Thompson G. Haggerty, of Skyview Drive, Dallas, and formerly of Kingston and Forty Fort, died Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born July 30, 1921, in Kingston, he was the son of the late Peter and Treyallen Thompson Haggerty. He was a graduate of Kingston High School, class of 1939, and Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia, class of 1947. He was a resident of Kingston most of his life and resided in Dallas the past 11 years.
He owned and operated the Deltam Co., Forty Fort, retiring in 1985. He was the supervisor for John J. Maher Funeral Home, Kingston, for several years and was also associated with the George A. Strish Funeral Home, Luzerne. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the European Theater of War from 1943 to 1945.
He was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston; life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8595, Forty Fort, where he served as past commander; former member of the American Legion Black Diamond Post 395, Kingston; member of the Kingston Lions Club for more than 40 years, where he was the past district deputy governor of Pennsylvania for one year, a past president and a zone chairman. He received the Melvin Jones Award in 1998 from the Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by brothers , James, Joseph and Peter.
Surviving are his wife, the former Doris Pelletier, with whom he celebrated 26 years of marriage on Oct. 17, 1999; sons , Donald M. Wilkins, Kingston; John A. Wilkins, Hanover Green, Hanover Township; William D. Wilkins, San Diego; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the George A. Strish Funeral Home, Luzerne, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ignatius Church. Interment will be in the veterans section of Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lions Eye Bank.
Genevieve Halladay

Genevieve Halladay, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, died Monday at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was daughter of the late Walter and Catherine Wysocki Sutcavage.
She was a graduate of the Wilkes-Barre School District and Taylor Hospital's Licensed Practical Nursing Program.
She resided in Wilkes-Barre for many years and the Red Rock area for 15 years, where she and her husband owned and operated the Deer View Restaurant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven, in 1990; brothers , Chester and Joseph; sisters , Vern Ebert, Wanda Fairty, Sophie Golomb and Mary Capak.
Surviving are a son, Robert, Mildred; a sister, Helen Sutcavage, Wilkes-Barre; brothers , Walter, Crafton; Albert, Trucksville; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday from the Metcalfe & Shaver Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with the Rev. Michael Shambora of the Wyoming United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick.
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to the time of the service on Thursday.
MARGARET A. HALLOCK

Margaret A. Hallock, of Tunkhannock, died Friday at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock.
Born March 12, 1931, in New Milford, she was the daughter of the late Jake and Lovisa Wall Henry.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Leland Crawford.
Surviving are her companion of 32 years, Joseph Faux; sons , David, Stacey and Jody Hallock, all of Tunkhannock; Michael Hallock, Nicholson; daughters , Rhonda Kinney, Factoryville; Debbie Sherwood, Cindy Kinney and Kim McCarty, all of Tunkhannock; Vickie Shea, Edison, N.J.; sisters , Dell Visenguard, Maine, N.Y.; Bethel Strack and half sister, Barbara Steane, both of Buffalo, N.Y.; brothers , Rusty Crawford, Laceyville; George Crawford, Owego, N.Y.; 23 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. Gary Myers, of the Meshoppen Biblical Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Tunkhannock.
