EDNA FLYNN

Edna Mae Flynn, formerly of Susquehanna Apartments, Avery Street, Tunkhannock, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Aug. 17, 1925, in Eaton Township, Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Englebert and Mary Whipple Howard.
She was preceded in death by her son, David C. Flynn.
Surviving are her daughters , Mary Quigley, Riverdale, Ga.; Bonnie Rasmussen, Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with the Rev. C. Emory Weeks officiating.
Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services Wednesday.
Foley, John
April 5, 2000
John J. Foley, 78, of Page Street, Kingston, died Wednesday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born Aug. 23, 1921, in Kingston, he was a son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Hurley) Foley. He was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary's High School, Wilkes-Barre. He and his wife owned Foley's, Carey Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Corps in 1942 and served as an aerial gunner in the Pacific Theater until 1946. He was a member of St. Ignatius Parish, American Legion Post 395, Veterans of Foreign Wars Anthracite Post 283, all of Kingston, and Knights of Columbus Council 3987, Luzerne.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita (Philistine) Foley; and brothers , Thomas and David.
Surviving are his son, John J., Jr., Houston, Texas ; daughter, Kathy Lin Nance, San Antonio, Texas ; and three grandsons.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday from the McLaughlin Funeral Service, 416 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church, North Maple Avenue, Kingston. Interment will be in St. Ignatius Cemetery, Pringle. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
Joseph Francik

Joseph J. Francik, 78, of Mill Street, Pittston, died Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after becoming ill at home.
Born in Duryea, he was son of the late Michael and Helen Kasmere Francik.
He was educated in Duryea schools.
He worked in the area mines and was a survivor of the Knox Mine Disaster.
Before retiring, he was employed as an electrical foreman for Conrail Railroad, Bethlehem.
He was a member of St. Mary's Assumption Church, Pittston, and the Lithuanian Citizens Club, Pittston.
He and his wife, the former Violet Yanchis, would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on May 3, 1998.
He was preceded in death by brothers Albert Francik and Elmer Francik.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his son, Joseph R. Francik, Pittston; daughter, Mrs. Paul (Nancy) Yablonski, Taylor; two grandchildren; brothers Michael Francik, Bethel, Conn.; Robert Francik, Harding; sisters Mrs. Margaret Shelly, Duryea; Mrs. Rose Ghigiarelli, Duryea; Mrs. Alice Piernot, Dover, N.J.; Mrs. Anna Marcillo, Bridgeport, Conn.; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Assumption Church, Pittston, with the Rev. Richard Polmounter officiating.
Interment will be St. John's Cemetery, Duryea.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Vigil services will be held Sunday evening.
Andrew France

Andrew T. France, 53, of Manor Drive, Shavertown, Kingston Township, died Friday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born Feb. 13, 1945, in Wilkes-Barre Township, he was the son of Marie Monka France of Kingston and the late Andrew S. France.
He was a 1962 graduate of Marymount High School, Wilkes-Barre.
He was the co-owner of T&F Welding in Wilkes-Barre.
He was a member of St. Therese's Church, Shavertown.
He and his wife, the former Joan M. Pointek, celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on May 6.
Surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are daughters , Renee Powell, Ashley; Melissa France, at home; a son, Andrew T. France Jr., at home; sisters , Marie Gould, Swoyersville; Katherine Austin, Kingston; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Therese's Church, Shavertown. Monsignor Peter J. Crynes, pastor, will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Francis, Joseph
March 6, 2000
Joseph Francis, of Moosic, died Monday at Moses Taylor Hospital.
Born in Avoca, he was the son of the late Gorman and Cecelia (McCrone) Francis. He was educated in Avoca schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific with the Seventh Infantry Division of the 17th Infantry Regiment Headquarters Company. He was wounded in the Marshall Islands in 1944. He received the Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Medal with four bronze stars and the Victory Medal. He worked as a machinist for the Atlas Chain Co., Exeter. He was a member of the Moosic Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor A. (Heckman) Francis; son, Joseph Raymond Francis; and sister, Margaret.
Surviving are his daughter, Karol Wansacz, Moosic; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Moosic Assembly of God Church, 477 Third St., Moosic. The Rev. Kerry A. Bingaman and the Rev. Robert A. Walls, of Providence Full Gospel Tabernacle, Scranton, will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Interment will be in Springbrook Cemetery.

Catherine M. Frederick, 87, of Fremont Street in West Pittston, died Thursday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
The daughter of the late Martin Coyne and Elizabeth Mumble Coyne Nelson, she was a graduate of St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston.
Before her retirement, she had worked in the garment industry. She was a volunteer worker for Nesbitt Hospital in Kingston and the Lock Haven Mental Hospital.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in West Pittston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl F. Frederick.
Surviving are her sons , Robert F., Swoyersville; and Carl D., Harding, Exeter Township; daughters , Elizabeth Hadley, Philadelphia; and Dolores Orlando, Falls, Exeter Township; 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Frank A. Gubbiotti Funeral Home, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Assumption Cemetery in Hughestown.

FREEMAN, MARGARET
September 14, 1999
Margaret J. Freeman, 74, formerly of the Beaumont section of Monroe Township in Wyoming County, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Kay S. Elko, with whom she had been residing for the last year.
Born July 26, 1925, at Sorber Mountain in Lake Township, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Grace (Brown) Sorber. She resided in Beaumont for 36 years before moving to Lake Silkworth.
Upon graduation from the Overbrook School for the Blind, she became a house mother there for several years.
She was a member of Noxen Bible Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward A.; brothers , Hiram, Robert, James and Phillip; and sisters , Mona Wolfe, Ferne Smith, Essie Wandel and Betty Moore.
Surviving, in addition to her daughter, are her son, Edward A, II, Beaumont; four grandchildren; and sisters , Ione Burnell, Harveys Lake; and Guida McGuire, Hershey.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Noxen Bible Baptist Church on state Route 29 in Noxen, with the Rev. James MacAvoy officiating. Private interment will be in Kocher Cemetery in Lake Township.
There will be no calling hours.

Gertrude R. Friedman, 95, of Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, Fla., died Sunday at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, Miami Beach.
Born in Wind Gap, she was a daughter of the late Adolph and Bertha (Hartman) Friedman.
Prior to retirement she was employed as a bookkeeper.
Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ohav Zedek Cemetery in the Hanover Green section of Hanover Township.
Rabbi Mier Rosenberg will officiate.

THERESA FUMANTI

Theresa Mary Fumanti, of Taylor Street in Old Forge, died Saturday at her home.
Born May 3, 1917, in Old Forge, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Edith Rogan Graham.
She was a graduate of Old Forge High School, class of 1936, and was a lifelong resident of Old Forge.
Before retiring she was a Revlon representative for the Globe Store and Scranton Dry Goods. She was also manager of the Erie Beauty Academy in Scranton, and was an owner and operator of Fumanti's Market in Old Forge.
She was very involved in the St. Lawrence O'Toole Church.
She and her husband, Gino Fumanti, celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on Aug. 10, 1998.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Eugene G., Old Forge; daughter, Jane Komensky, Old Forge; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Victor M. Ferri Funeral Home, 522 Fallon St., Old Forge, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Lawrence O'Toole Roman Catholic Church on South Main Street in Old Forge, with the Rev. Dr. Michael J. Kirwin officiating.
Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Austin Heights section of Old Forge.
