De Haba, Helen

March 7, 2000

Helen De Haba, 84, of Railroad Street, Duryea, died Tuesday in Hospice Community Care at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in the Glen Lyon section of Newport Township, she was a daughter of the late William and Julia (Tesar) Sobolewski. She previously lived at Lake Silkworth. She graduated from Glen Lyon High School and worked in the area garment industry. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Duryea.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Slatky; stepson, Joseph De Haba; brothers , Zigmund and John; and sisters , Sophie, Alice, Victoria and Catherine.

Surviving are her second husband, William De Haba; stepsons, William and Paul De Haba, both of Duryea; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home, Inc., 204 Main St., Duryea, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church. The Rev. Charles Rokosz will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Lake Silkworth.

DEKUTOSKI, EDWARD

October 29, 1999

Edward Dekutoski, 98, formerly of Newport Street, Glen Lyon, Newport Township, died Friday in Bridgton, Maine.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the George A. Strish Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon, Newport Township.

DEKUTOSKI, EDWARD

October 29, 1999

Edward Dekutoski, 93, of Lovell, Maine, and formerly of Newport Street, Glen Lyon, Newport Township, died Friday in Bridgton Health Care Center, Maine.

Born Oct. 22, 1906, in Glen Lyon, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Pawloski) Dekutoski.

He was a life resident of Glen Lyon and resided in Lovell for the past six years.

He was employed as a coal miner by the Susquehanna Coal Co., Glen Lyon, for 48 years, retiring in 1969.

He was a member of St. Michael's Church, Glen Lyon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna A. Pelczar; sisters , Stella Ambrose, Sophie Misavage and Catherine Smolinski; brothers , Joseph, Frank and Zigmund Dekutoski.

Surviving are his sons , Thomas Dekutoski, Lovell; Joseph Dekutoski, Lake Silkworth; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday from the George A. Strish, Inc., Funeral Home, 211 W. Main St., Glen Lyon.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Private family viewing will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday. Graveside service will be at noon at St. Michael's Cemetery, Glen Lyon.

Delaney, Marguerite

April 30, 2000

Marguerite A. Delaney, formerly of Birch Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at St. Mary's Manor, Lansdale.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the Matthew T. Jacobs Funeral Home Inc., 47 Old River Road, Wilkes-Barre.

ROSE DELORENZO

Rose M. (Lane) DeLorenzo, 87, of Las Vegas died Jan. 6 at her home.

Born March 11, 1911, in New Jersey, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Maksymiak) Lane.

She was educated in Now Jersey schools.

She lived Mountaintop for the past 30 years before moving to Las Vegas in 1991.

She was employed as a nurse's aide at White Haven Center until retiring in 1978.

She was a member of the Shrine of the Most Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church in Las Vegas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Armand DeLorenzo, in 1984; and brother, George Lane.

Surviving are her son, Charles DeLorenzo, Mountaintop; daughter, Patricia D. DeLorenzo, with whom she resided in Las Vegas; two grandchildren; sister, Olga Sesto, Pacifica, Calif.; and brother, Michael Lane, New Jersey.

Private funeral services will be Thursday from the Desiderio Funeral Home Inc., 436 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountaintop.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church in Mountaintop.

Interment will be in Laurel Cemetery in White Haven.

Demko, Stephen

February 19, 2000

Stephen Demko, a resident of Brown Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at his home.

Funeral arrangements are pending from the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, Plains Township.

Florence Dempsey

May 24, 1998

Florence Dempsey, 101, of Mildred, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mary Finan, of Dushore.

Born in Galeton, April 10, 1897, she was the daughter of James and Emma Kasper Sharp.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Mildred, and was a homemaker all of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Dempsey, in 1958; brother, William Sharp; daughter, Kathryn D. Flynn, in 1992; grandsons Keith W. Dempsey, in 1972; Dennis J. Mullen, in 1991; Peter A. Finan, in 1996.

Surviving are her sons Edward Dempsey, Cocoa, Fla.; James Dempsey, Melbourne, Fla.; Gerald Dempsey, Dover, Del.; daughters Isabel Fitzgerald, Camp Hill; Mary Finan, Dushore; Loretta Calaman, Martinsville, Va.; Doris Kunkle, Wyalusing; Jane Freiler, Dushore; 24 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday from the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Mildred, with the Rev. Patrick J. McLaughlin officiating.

Interment will be in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery.

Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore.

There will be a Scripture Service at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Marion Denby

May 22, 1998

Marion Denby, of Passaic, N.J., died Friday in Passaic, N.J.

Born in the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Harry J. and Beatrice S. Skidmore Miller.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony, in 1990; son, Richard, DDS, in 1969; brother, William, Wallington, N.J.; sisters Abie Shovlin, Ester Kutz, Beatrice Gould, Harriet Vanchure and Elizabeth Savage, all of Wilkes-Barre.

Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) Collura, Lakewood, N.J.; son, James, Clifton, N.J.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from Allwood Funeral Home, Allwood Road, Clifton, N.J., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, Passaic, N.J.

Interment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township at 2 p.m.

Sarah DePolo

May 22, 1998

Sarah DePolo, 84, of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Perth Amboy, N.J., April 1, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha Ruskoski Golubiewski.

She was a resident of Parsons for most of her life and attended the Wilkes-Barre schools.

She was a member of St. Dominic's Church, Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic; two grandsons; sister, Bertha Slabinski; brothers Bernard and William Golubiewski.

Surviving are daughters Sylvia Travis, Ashley; Christine Decker, Sebastian, Fla.; Phyllis DePolo, Thornhurst; son, Dominick DePolo, Wilkes-Barre; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Maslowski, Nanticoke; brothers Matthew Golubiewski, Woodbridge, N.J.; Walter Golubiewski, Plymouth.

Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Dominic's Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

EDWARD DE PRIEST

Edward De Priest, formerly of Kingston and Sciota, died Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta.

Born in Kingston, he was a son of the late William and Lila E. (Moore) De Priest.

He and his family moved to Buford, Ga., in 1984.

He was a member of the Methodist Faith in Buford.

He was employed as a truck driver for Atlanta Dairies until retiring. He had previously been employed by Golden Quality Ice Cream in Plymouth.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 229 in Scranton.

Surviving are his wife, the former Jean McHale, Buford; son, Donald De Priest, Exeter; daughter, Jean Kramer, Duluth, Ga.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister, Margaret Wesley, Mountaintop; brothers , Joseph Wesley, Philadelphia; and Ted Wesley, Luzerne; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be a viewing Friday at the Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in West Pittston Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Herrala, of First United Church in West Pittston, officiating.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Donnelly-Callahan Funeral Home, 802 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 71 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, 18701; or to the Gwinnett County Division Memorial Fund, 4405 International Blvd., Suite 106, Norcross, Ga. 30093-30132.
