COATES, CURTIS

Curtis M. Coates, 36, of Baltimore, died Tuesday at his home.
Born May 8, 1963, in Kingston, he was a son of Nelson Coates, of Plymouth, and Lynne (Shouldice) Stritzinger, of Shavertown.
He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary in Kingston and Kenyon College in Ohio. He had also studied abroad, spending a year in Athens, Greece, and was currently working on his master's degree at John Hopkins University.
He had been employed as a librarian at John Hopkins University and also as a chef at several Baltimore restaurants.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Ruth Shouldice; and paternal grandparents, Christopher and Elizabeth Coates.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his brother, Jason Coates, Plymouth; maternal grandfather, Paul Shouldice, Shavertown; and companion, Louise Hoebler, Baltimore.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday from the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown, with the Rev. Dr. Rudolph Libeck officiating.
Interment will be in Huntsville Cemetery.

COCHRAN, JOHN
October 4, 1999
John David Cochran, of Cemetery Street, Hughestown, died Monday in Penn State Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born March 13, 1916, in Duryea, he was a son of the late William and Kathryn (Laird) Cochran.
He attended Hughestown High School.
Before his retirement, he was employed as a service manager with Roy Stauffer Chevrolet, West Pittston and Scranton.
He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Hughestown, and the Hughestown Hose Company No. 1.
He was preceded in death by his son, William W.; brothers , Ernest, Thomas and Howard; and sisters , Lillian Brodbeck, Gertrude Renard and Viola Jayne.
Surviving are his wife, the former Doris Schmaltz, with whom he celebrated their 60th anniversary on March 21; daughters , Bonnie Cochran, Kensington, Md.; Jane Chambers, Chalfonte; and Sally Bendinsky, Moscow; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. tonight at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston, with the Rev. Kenneth Trexler, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, officiating.
Interment and graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hughestown Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until service time at 8 p.m. tonight.

ELEANOR COLES

Eleanor (Walendzewicz) Coles, 81, of Third Street in Wyoming died Monday in Hospice Community Care at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late John and Stephania Zioltewicz May Walendzewicz.
She attended Nanticoke public schools and was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Wyoming.
Before her retirement, she and her husband, the late Albert Coles, operated the Wyoming Cafe for 35 years. She also worked at Valley Crest Nursing Home in Plains Township, the Rex Shoe Factory in Exeter and the Consolidated Cigar Factory in West Pittston.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers , Joseph, John and Leo.
Surviving are her twin daughters , Donna Coles, at home; and Dora Pawlowski, Plains Township; sisters , Edna Kochan, Buffalo, N.Y.; and Bernadine Remaly, Pittstown, N.J.; brother, Henry, Hazlet, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in the Carverton section of Kingston Township.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Ann Comparetta
April 17, 1998
Ann C. Comparetta, 69, a lifelong resident of South Scranton, died Friday in Community Medical Center, Scranton, following an illness.
Born in Scranton, she was daughter of the late Joseph and Clara Krystynick Jeziorski.
She was educated in Scranton schools.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, South Scranton.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas W. Comparetta, with whom she would have celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in October; sons Thomas A., Wilkes-Barre; Arthur B., Scranton; brothers and sisters ; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
Memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul's United Methodist Church General Fund.

Comstock, Carol

Carol Ruth (Walker) Comstock, 86, of Laceyville, died Saturday at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock.
Born March 1, 1914, in Rushville, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Chester and Daisy (Clink) Walker.
She was a 1932 graduate of Camptown High School.
She worked at the Bendix Corp., South Montrose, for 25 years.
She was a member of the Braintrim Baptist Church, Laceyville, and its Ladies Sunday School class, the Tyler Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Laceyville Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Freeman N.; son, Dale; and brothers , Gerald and Kenneth Walker.
Surviving are her daughter, Barb Coy, Pennsburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from The Braintrim Baptist Church, with the Rev. Vic Millard of the church, and the Rev. Rich Vieldhouse of the Orwell Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Rushville Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral Wednesday at the church.

VITO CONFORTI
Vito "Buck" Conforti, 88, of First Street in Old Forge died Tuesday at his home.
Born in Old Forge, he was a son of the late Charles and Stella Vilardi Conforti.
He attended Old Forge public schools.
Before retiring, he was employed in the mining industry and by the Mike Ballino Construction Co. in Scranton.
He was a member of the Felitesse Association and was a member of St. Mary's Church on West Grace Street in Old Forge.
He was an avid hunter and gardener.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Josephine Riviello, in 1972; brother, Anthony Conforti; and sisters , Mary Demech, Clementine Morelli and Angelina Conforti.
Surviving are his son, Charles Conforti, Wilmington, Del.; daughters , Ann Marie Cavalier and Vita Conforti, both of Old Forge; three grandchildren; brother, Louis Conforti, Scranton; sister, Rose Ghigiarelli, Old Forge; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday from the Louis V. Ciuccio Funeral Home, 145 Moosic Road, Old Forge, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Church.
Interment will be in Old Forge Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
Anne Connolly

Anne Connolly, 53, of Downsville, N.Y., died Friday at Mercy Hospital Hospice, Scranton.
Born in Pringle, she was daughter of the late William J. and Mazy Marut Connolly.
She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Kingston, attended College Misericordia and graduated from Trinity College, Washington , D.C. She earned a master's degree from Ohio University.
She was chairwoman of the mathematics department of Downsville Central School. Previously, she taught school in Tuxedo Park, N.Y.
She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake, and was founder of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Booster Club, Downsville.
She was also a member of the Math Teacher Association of New York State, the Southern Tier Math Teachers Association, the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and Downsville Teachers Association.
She was a National Science Fellow in 1993 and 1994.
Surviving are brothers , William J. Connolly, Harveys Lake; Robert P. Connolly, Forty Fort; sisters , Mary B. Scharf, Kingston; and Kathleen Zahorsky, Bear Creek Township.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon today in Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake, with the Rev. Joseph Rafferty officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

Anna Constantine

Anna M. Constantine, of New Mallery Place, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday at home.
Born in Moritzfeld, Austria-Hungary, she was the daughter of the late Franz and Katarina Schlatter Toth.
She previously resided in Newburg, N.Y., and Los Angeles, Calif., before moving to Wilkes-Barre.
She attended schools in Moritzfeld, Austria-Hungary and Newburg, N.Y.
She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Plymouth, and a former member of First Baptist Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Constantine; twin brother, Johann Toth; sister, Elizabeth Halsdorfer.
Surviving are her son, Philip Constantine, West Milford, N.J.; daughters Esther Hakim and Dorothea Bevan, both of Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held Wednesday.
Interment will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
