ALBERT J. PENROSE
Albert J. Penrose, 103, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at his home. He was born June 10, 1896, in New Derry, and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a member of Latrobe United Methodist Church and had retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel E. Bates Penrose. He is survived by nieces, Anna Thomas of Latrobe, who was his caregiver for the last 10 years, and Doris Stewart Pennoyer of Maine. Also surviving are a number of other nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Aimee W. Twigg officiating. Interment in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township.
ROXANE ROSE RELLICK
Roxane Rose Rellick, 38, of Blairsville, formerly of Derry, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, as a result of a vehicle accident in Derry Township. She was born Dec. 15, 1961, in Latrobe, the loving daughter of George "Pete" and Jean Rose Laurenzio Rellick of Derry. A contract administrator for Hamill Manufacturing Co., Trafford, Roxane was a 1979 graduate of Derry Area High School and held a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She thoroughly enjoyed raising flowers and had a great interest and love for horses and dogs, which she had two of each. Roxane was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Mary Laurenzio and Andrew and Sophia Rellick, and will be terribly missed by those who love and survive her: her parents, Pete and Jean Rose Rellick of Derry; her brothers , Curtis Rellick of Latrobe and Dean Rellick at home; her two nieces, Kate and Grace Rellick; her special friend, Blair Cartwright of Harrison City; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the MICHAEL J. QUINLISK FUNERAL HOME INC., 548 N. Chestnut St., Derry. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Stephen C. West of St. Joseph Church, Derry, officiating. Interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
LEONA FLORENCE UHRING
Leona Florence Uhring, 89, of Greensburg (Hempfield Township), died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Integrated Health Services of Greater Pittsburgh at Greensburg. She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Mt. Pleasant (Mudd School), a daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth Briercheck Junick. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Stephen P. Uhring, on Dec. 3, 1997; a brother, Michael Junick; and nine sisters , Theresa Junick, Christine Junick, Mary Solomon, Anne Kozak, Elizabeth Toth, Dorothy Uhrin, Margaret Fisher, Verna Smithnosky, and Helen Sutty. She is survived by a son, Michael R. Uhring of Greensburg; a daughter, Linda Nemeth and her husband, Frank, of South Greensburg; a granddaughter, Carlese Nemeth of South Greensburg; a brother, Charles E. Junick of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Eleanor Lazor of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 1 p.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg, (EVERYONE IS ASKED TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH). Margaret (Olejar) Adams, 87, of Wall, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000. A daughter of the late Adam and Caroline (Tomajka) Olejar. Wife of the late Michael Adams Jr. Beloved mother of Judith (Walter) Smith and Richard (late Bonnie) Adams. Grandmother of Alan (Pamela), Gary, Mark (Joan) Smith and Chad Bielec. Great-grandmother of Ryan, Kyle, Ross and Julie Smith. Sister of Frances Romek, the late Anna Delich, Sue Kotch, Caroline Vinarsky and Joseph Olejar. Also nieces and nephews. DOROTHY M. ARMSTRONG
Dorothy M. "Dottie" Armstrong, 76, of Murrysville, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. She was born July 5, 1923, in Colorado Springs, Colo., a daughter of the late Dewitt and Elsie Whitney Lusk. She was a member of the Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church, Murrysville, a yoga teacher for many years, and was involved in community activities for many years. She is survived by her husband, James I. Armstrong; a son, James I. Armstrong Jr. and his wife, Sherri, of Murrysville; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie and Travis; a brother, Richard Lusk of Laguna Beach, Calif.; a sister, Jane Hopper of Ashland, Ore.; and 10 nieces and nephews. Visitation with the family will be Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville, followed by a memorial service at 8 p.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth White officiating. If desired, memorials may be made to the Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church.
WILLIAM A. COTTRELL
William A. Cottrell, 72, of Hempfield Township, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Jeannette. He was born Oct. 9, 1927, in Gailton, Pa., a son of the late Frederick Sr. and Vesta (Bush) Cottrell. He was an employee of American St. Gobain in Jeannette, retiring in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Yolanda (Celio) Cottrell; three sons , Curt Cottrell and wife, Caroline, of Darragh, William Cottrell Jr. at home, and Richard Cottrell at home; a daughter, Judy Quinn and husband, Dennis, of Jeannette; three brothers , Fred Cottrell of New Jersey, Joseph and Robert Cottrell, both of Grapeville; three sisters , Ida Mae Simmers of Michigan, Valetta Brodsky and Vera Cottrell, both of Jeannette; and five grandchildren, William Cottrell III, Dellas Hustead III, Curt Cottrell Jr., Carey Cottrell, and Cyra Cottrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers , James and Jack Cottrell; and a grandson, Brian Cottrell. Private visitation and services with the Rev. Joseph M. ELAINE ROSMAN DAVIS
Elaine Rosman Davis, 65, of Monroeville, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at her home. She was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Lancaster, a daughter of Jeannette Shear Rosman of Akron, Pa., and the late Herman Rosman. She was a retired medical technologist, having worked for the Forbes Regional Health Center Systems. She was a member of Temple David in Monroeville, was a graduate of Temple University with a bachelor's degree in medical technology, and did volunteer work at the Monroeville Public Library. In addition to her mother , she is survived by her husband, Howard A. Davis; two daughters , Mrs. Lisa Davis Taylor and her husband, Jeffrey, of Austin, Texas , and Sharon Lynn Davis of Horsham, Pa.; a brother, Ned Rosman of Carlisle; and a sister, Mrs. Sandra Hurwitz of Cherry Hill, N.J. Margaret M. Downs, 76, of Hostetter, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000. She was born April 21, 1923, in Salemville, Pa., a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Barron Shimko. She was a member of St. Cecilia Church, Whitney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mark A. Downs; and three brothers , John J. Shimko, George A. Shimko and Joseph Shimko. Survived by her husband of 49 years, Paul J. Downs; two sons , Roger A. Downs and his wife, Tracey, and Gary E. Downs and his wife, Kelly A., both of Latrobe; a brother, Edward Shimko of California; a sister, Harriet Hornzell of Baltimore, Md. Also survived by four grandchildren, Tony Downs, Ben Downs, Tim Downs and Jim Bendel III. Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the JOHN J. MILDRED G. HELWIG
Mildred G. Helwig, 87, of Jeannette, died peacefully Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at home, with her family at her side. She was born May 15, 1912, to Adam and Minnie Teets Schroyer. She passes on to join her late husband, John R. Helwig; two sisters , Helen Felton and Naomi Green; her brother, Eugene Schroyer; and best friend, Sal Brown. Mildred was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Jeannette. She managed the Pittsburgh brokerage office of Arthurs, Lestrange & Co. until retiring in 1971 to accept election as Grand Secretary, Order of the Eastern Star, for the state of Pennsylvania . She was a member and past matron of James W. Orr Chapter 467 and Jeannette Chapter 69, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Jerusalem Westmoreland Shrine No. 18 of Greensburg and Jeannette Court, Order of the Amaranth. Mildred was a former district officer of the United Methodist Women; past president of the Progressive Women's Club of Jeannette; and former chairperson and treasurer of Jeannette District Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Unit 4. She is survived by daughters , Barbara Ann Daugherty and husband, Ronald, of Acme, Helen N. Kaylor of Reisterstown, Md., and Gretchen H. Nelson and husband, Randolph, of Jeannette; nine grandchildren, Richard Daugherty of Ohio, Debra Pedrow of Monroeville, Linda Hartman of South Carolina, Marc Kaylor and John Kaylor, both of Maryland, Daniel Kaylor of Arizona, Dr. Reed Nelson of Greensburg, Eric Nelson of New Stanton and Dana Nelson of Greensburg; dear friend, Canal Brown of Jeannette; and 20 great-grandchildren. Charles Konkus, 77, of North Huntingdon, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Jeannette. Born in Fort Palmer, Pa., Dec. 16, 1922, a son of the late Frank Konkus and Mary Naugle Konkus. Husband of Audrey Ritter Konkus and Father of Charles T. Konkus (wife, Juliette) of Manor. Also survived by a brother, Frank Konkus of Pittsburgh; a sister, Agnes Sechoka of Plum Borough; and a grandson, Joshua M. Konkus. He was a construction worker for Pittsburgh Construction Local #373. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Also he was a 50 year member of the New Kensington Musical Society, Local 630 American's Federation of Musicians. Robert D. Long, 76, of Monroeville, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh, Uptown. He was born Oct. 13, 1923, in West Newton, beloved son of the late Donald W. and Anna Mary Lash Long. He was also preceded in death by brothers , Donald and Richard Long. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bertha E. (Schwerha); a son, Robert D. and wife, Shirley, Long of Michigan City, Ind.; grandchildren, David, Michael and Stephanie Long; sisters , Norma Sibrava of Moon Township, Lois Courtney of New Providence, N.J., Maryanne Carlson of West Newton; and a brother, Paul Long of the North Hills. He was retired from U.S. Steel and was a World War II Army veteran. The family would like to express its appreciation to family, neighbors, friends, physicians, nurses and other caregivers who have rallied at Mr. Long's side over the years. Carol Mae Mock, 60, of Greensburg, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in the Monsour Medical Center, Jeannette. She was born Dec. 20, 1939, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Ralph C. and Nancy Stiffler Mock. She was a member of the VFW of Greensburg and the Hempfield Hunt Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters , Margaret Mock, Roberta Abu-Saud, Theresa Florence Bluey and Ellen Nicklow. She is survived by her son, James R. Goulding Jr. of Jeannette; four sisters , Nancy Teeters of Florida, Irene Morris of New Mexico, Emma Mock and Pearl Mock, both of Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.
