Anthony "Cap" Capitano, 86, of Pine Street in Pittston died Monday at Penn State Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.
Born June 14, 1912, in West Pittston, he was a son of the late Peter and Mary (Scalia) Capitano.
A lifelong resident of the greater Pittston area, he worked as a miner for 27 years and at Pittston Apparel until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Rocco's Church and the Serradifalco Society in Pittston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen Starcun, sisters , Angeline Falcone, Catherine Capitano, Carmella Leonardi, Josephine Butera and Rose Occhipinti, and brother, Sam.
Surviving are his daughters , Gloria Butchko, Muncy; Judith Endres, West Pittston; and Paulette Barlik, Hughestown; son, Peter, Pittston; seven grandchildren; sister, Mary Foresch, Harding, Exeter Township; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday from the Graziano Funeral Home, 700 Township Blvd., Pittston Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rocco's Church.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in the Carverton section of Kingston Township.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
CAPOZZI, HELEN
December 10, 1999
Helen Capozzi, of Dana Street in Wilkes-Barre, died Friday in Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Sugar Notch, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Anna Gossard Hanko.
She attended the Sugar Notch schools and was a member of Holy Rosary Church on Park Avenue in Wilkes-Barre.
She was a co-owner of Capozzi's Hotel and Bar in Wilkes-Barre for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse; brothers and sisters .
Surviving are her daughters , Elizabeth Schneider and Sandra Dickerson, both of Wilkes-Barre; sister, Martha Naugle, Mountaintop; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family from the John J. Straub Funeral Home, 55 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre.
Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum in Hanover Township.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial donations may be made to the Swoyersville Ambulance Association.
Virginia Cardascia
April 19, 1998
Virginia Cardascia, of Pine Street, Scranton, died Sunday at West View Manor, Wyoming, where she was a guest for a year and a half.
Born and reared in Hughestown, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Giovanna Coca Cardascia.
She lived in the Pittston area and in Scranton for the past 32 years.
She attended Hughestown public schools.
She was employed as a LPN at St. Joseph's Center, Scranton.
Surviving are her brothers Anthony and Edward Cardascia, Pittston; three nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family from the Adonizio Funeral Home, Pittston.
Interment will be in the West Pittston Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Mary Carey, of Mary Street in Ashley died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

Katherine F. Carey, 96, of West Wyoming, beloved mother , grandmother and great-grandmother died April 12 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
She was born Feb. 25, 1904, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Ellison) Ryan. She was a graduate of the Pottsville Pennsylvania School System before moving to West Wyoming. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming; a member and past secretary of the Wyoming Free Library and a former member of Wyoming Women's Club.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Carey Jr.; brother, James; sisters , Rita, Agnes (Gottschall) and Mary (McFarland); and grandson, Richard F. Carey.
Surviving are her sons , Harry R. Carey; attorney Robert T. Carey; grandchildren, Karen Everson, Susan Davis, Robert, William and Carolyn Carey; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Everson and William, Michael and Joseph Carey; brother, Robert Ryan; sisters , Virginia Kliebenstein and Frances Nester, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Arrangements will be by the Metcalfe & Shaver Funeral Home, Inc. Memorials, if desired, can be made to the Wyoming Free Library or the charity of choice.
Carle, Ellis

Ellis W. Carle, 86, of South Landon Avenue, Kingston, died Saturday at Hospice Care of the VNA at Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Myron A. and Elizabeth Ellis Carle Sr. He graduated from Kingston High School and served in the U.S. Air Force in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was a resident of South Landon Avenue since 1996, having formerly lived in Tunkhannock for 25 years and Kingston. Before retiring, he was employed by Sherwood Chevrolet, Tunkhannock. He was previously employed by Roy Piper Contracting Co., Tunkhannock, and was the district supervisor for H & R Block, Dallas. He owned and operated the family business, Carle Ice & Coal Co., Kingston, before the 1972 flood.
He was a member of Church of Christ Uniting, American Legion Black Diamond Post 395, Veterans of Foreign Wars Anthracite Post 283, all of Kingston; and the oldest life member of the Kingston Independent Fire Co.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Pattie Ann Carle; sister, Mildred Jones; brothers , Myron, Jr., and George Carle.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Gertrude Bird Carle; daughter, Trudie Kertulis, Mechanicsburg; son, Ellis W. Carle, Kingston; sister, Mary Learn, Waverly, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with the Rev. Gregory C. Myers, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery, Plymouth. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of the VNA or to the Wyoming Valley Children's Association.
Dorothy Carleton

Dorothy J. Carleton, 74, of Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday at East Mountain Manor, Plains Township.
Born Nov. 16, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, she was daughter of the late Peter and Lillian Scheidel Schmitt.
She was a 1942 graduate of St. Nicholas High School.
Before her retirement in 1994, she was employed for many years in the Tax Office for the City of Wilkes-Barre.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Church, South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre, and president of its Altar & Rosary Society.
Surviving is a brother, Donald Schmitt of Charlotte Hall, Md.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church.
Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, Shavertown, Kingston Township.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Leonard Carlson

Leonard D. Carlson of Church Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Saturday at his home.
Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he was son of Bror C. Carlson and the late Violet E. Davis Carlson.
He was a graduate of Fordham University where he received a master's degree in financial management.
He formerly was employed as a stock analyst with Smith-Barney Investment Corp., New York City.
Surviving, in addition to his Father , are a sister, Barbara, Hampton, Va.; a brother, John, Fishkill, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today from the Maple Hill Cemetery Chapel, Hanover Township.
There will be no calling hours.

Carpenter, David

David S. Carpenter, of Hillside Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Wednesday at his home.
Born May 17, 1960, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of Charles and Regina Barbra Carpenter. A 1978 graduate of GAR Memorial High School, he was a lifelong area resident. He was a cook at various restaurants throughout the Wyoming Valley. He was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Immaculate Conception, 134 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, the former Patricia Howe, with whom he celebrated 18 years of marriage Sept. 5; son, David, Jr., and daughters , Melissa Carpenter and Brittany Carpenter, all at home; brothers , Charles, DMD, Forty Fort; James, Harveys Lake; and Eugene, Ocean City, Md.; nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be at the convenience of the family from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 27 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with Monsignor Thomas Banick officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. There will be no calling hours.
CARROLL, VINCENT
October 29, 1999
Vincent Carroll, well-known radio and television announcer, of Regent Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday in the Inpatient Unit of Hospice Community Care, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Dec. 7, 1915, in Plymouth, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine Ayers Carroll.
He was a 1934 graduate of Hanover Township High School and resided in the area his entire life.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater with the Sixth Infantry Division. He received the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal. He also served during the Korean Conflict with the 109th Field Artillery.
He was employed by WBAX radio station for 20 years. Before retiring in 1976, he was an announcer at WNEP television station.
He was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Division Street, Wilkes-Barre, and its Holy Name Society.
He and his wife, the former Mary Carr, celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Sept. 27.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maureen Nesler; brother, David Thomas Carroll; sisters , Kathleen Reh and Gertrude Reiss.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughters , Eileen Pesavento, Bethlehem; Maribeth Perrins, Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday from the Bednarski Funeral Home, 27 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a funeral Mass at 1 p.m. in St. Aloysius Church.
Interment will be in St. Vincent's Cemetery, Plymouth.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
