Brock Brewer

May 15, 1998

Brock Allen Brewer, 21, of Wicklow Avenue, Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Meshoppen, died Friday in an accident at a construction site in Temple Terris, Fla., while working for Sunrise Steel Erectors of Zephyrhills, Fla.

Born in Tunkhannock, July 22, 1976, he was the son of Glenn F. Brewer and Darcy Talbert.

He attended Elk Lake High School.

He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Beverly Brewer, in 1996; maternal grandmother, Madeline Talbert, in 1996.

Surviving in addition to his Father , of Meshoppen, are his mother and stepfather, Kevin Sheffler, both of Meshoppen; brother, Corey Brewer, and sister, Jamie Brewer, both of Meshoppen; stepsister, Heather Walter, Tunkhannock; stepbrother, Stanley Jones, Mehoopany; maternal grandfather, Herbert Talbert, Meshoppen; paternal grandparents, George and Eva Brewer, Sayre; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Meshoppen, with the Rev. Tim Barnett officiating.

Interment will be in the Jersey Hill Cemetery, Auburn.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. until time of services Friday.

LEO BRISLIN

Leo J. Brislin, 79, of Jones Street in Wilkes-Barre died Friday at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

Born March 5, 1919, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Dennis and Theresa McCaffrey Brislin.

He attended St. Leo's School in Ashley, and was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Wilkes-Barre.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received two purple hearts, two bronze stars and numerous other honorable citations. He participated in the Fourth Division military Reunion, held June, 1979, in St. Laurens, France.

He was employed as a heavy equipment operator and before his retirement, at Walben's in Wilkes-Barre.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 132, the D.A.V., and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Wilkes-Barre.

He was preceded in death by his infant brother, Patrick; brother, James; and sister, Florence McCaffrey.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Bettie Drexinger; son, Michael, Shavertown, Kingston Township; and sister, Angela, Wilkes-Barre.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday from the Leo P. Lehman Funeral Home, 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church in Wilkes-Barre, with the Very Rev. J. Duane Gavitt, V.F., officiating.

Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum in Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Patrick's Church, 312 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, 18702.

BRODA, MARY

September 4, 1999

Mary (Rilko) Broda, of North Street, in the Hudson section of Plains Township, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Helen Perun Rilko.

A lifelong resident of Plains Township, she attended Plains Township schools.

She was a charter member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Olga Dorish; and brother, Paul Rilko.

Surviving are her husband, Andrew S. Broda, Hudson; daughters , Denise Novack, Duryea; Sandra Brennan and Andrea Jagodzinski, both of Plains Township; sister, Dolores Rilko, Hudson; brothers , Michael Rilko, Wapwallopen; Alex Rilko, Hudson; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township, with Requiem service at 11:30 a.m. in Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church.

Interment will be in Holy Resurrection R.O. Cemetery in Plains Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Parastas services will be held at 7:30 p.m., with the Rev. David Shewczyk officiating.

Brooke, Bertha

February 27, 2000

Bertha A. (Bittenbender) Brooke, 93, of North Palm Beach, Fla., died Feb. 27 at the Attleboro Care Center, Langhorne.

Born in Pond Hill, she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Maggie Hess Bittenbender. She resided in suburban Philadelphia, Atlanta and Summit, N.J., before moving to North Palm Beach. She was employed as a mutual fund adviser with Lord Abbott and Co., Philadelphia.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, North Palm Beach, and the daughters of the American Revolution. She was a ballroom dancer and participated in dance events and competitions throughout New Jersey and Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Carroll Brooke Jr.; sister, Eva Camera; and brother, Roland Bittenbender.

Surviving are her children, Jane Clinton, North Palm Beach; Henry Carroll Brooke III, Easton, Conn.; Virginia B. Munds, West Amwell, N.J.; sister, Mabel Afflerbach, Pond Hill; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be at 4:30 p.m. March 26 at St. John the Evangelist Church, Bridge Street, Lambertville, N.J. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. April 9 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Pond Hill. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, c/o Eilene Crawley, Box 129 A, RR 1, Wapwallopen. Arrangements are by the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, Lambertville.

Brostoski, Edward

February 20, 2000

Edward Stephen Brostoski, 82, of Avoca, died Sunday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Duryea, he was a son of the late Joseph and Madeline (Fritz) Brostoski.

He was a graduate of Moosic High School.

He worked for Maxion Electronics, Old Forge, and the Kimbell Divisions of Owens-Illinois.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Church, Duryea, and resided in Avoca most of his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Margaret McLaughlin; brothers , Stanley and John; and sister, Jule Cituk.

Surviving are his daughter, Margaret MacRae, Duryea; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard, Moscow; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, with the Rev. Charles Rokosz officiating.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Avoca.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

BROWN, DONALD

December 22, 1999

Donald George Brown, 64, of Hidden Court in Beaufort, S.C., died Wednesday at Medical University Hospital in Charleston, S.C.

Born Jan. 2, 1935, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Henry and Dorothy (Hill) Brown.

He attended Wilkes College in Wilkes-Barre and was a retired design engineer for Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, Md.

Since his retirement, he was a general contractor and had built several homes. Since moving to Beaufort, he had been a design engineer for Atlantic Marine.

He was a former Little League coach in Mount Arlington, N.J., and played softball in the Industrial League in Aberdeen.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia James Brown; daughter, Donna Lynn Ruhl, Westminster, Md.; son, David William, Baltimore; and brother, Larry, Stockton, Calif.

Funeral services will be announced from the Copeland Funeral Home in Beaufort.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pulmonary Care Unit, Beaufort Memorial Hospital, P.O. Box 1068, Beaufort, SC 29901.

BROWN, ROBIN

October 25, 1999

Robin Brown, 2, of Mark Drive in Hanover Township, died of pneumonia Monday at Hershey Medical Center.
Born Sept. 18, 1997, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of Robert and Christine (Gardner) Brown.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her twin brother, Robert, brother, Charles, and sister, Danielle, all at home.

Friends and family will meet for a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Christ United Presbyterian Church, 105 Lee Park Ave., Lee Park section of Hanover Township. The Rev. Robert Boyar will officiate.

Arrangements are by the James M. Desiderio Funeral Home, Inc., 2 Academy Road, Marion Terrace, Hanover Township.

Violet Brown

May 22, 1998

Violet I. Brown, of Baltimore Avenue, West Pittston, died Friday at the home.

Born in Bristol, England, March 13, 1909, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Eva Rose Hobbs Banks.

She graduated from West Pittston High School.

Before retiring, she was employed as a secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of the Aging.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, West Pittston, and the West Pittston Women's Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L. Daniel Brown, in 1987.

Surviving are her brother, Robert W. Banks, Falls Church, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston, with the Rev. Robert J. Herrala officiating.

Interment will be in the West Pittston Cemetery.

Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

June Buffton

April 10, 1998

June Foux Buffton, 77, died April 10 at Columbia Medical Center, Port St. Lucie, Fla.

She was born in Wyoming and graduated from Wyoming High School in 1938.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Buffton, in 1996.

Surviving are her son, Thomas H. Buffton, Jr., Tucker, Ga.; daughter, June Cerveny, of Sayville, N.Y.; three grandchildren.

Arrangements were by the Acock Funeral Home, Jensen Beach, Fla.

Florence Bukofski

May 21, 1998

Florence A. Bukofski of College Street, Nanticoke, died Thursday at the Penn State Geisinger Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Nanticoke, she was the daughter of the late Konstanty and Veronica Humicz Kopko.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Nanticoke.

She was formerly employed at Penn Footwear in Nanticoke.

She was preceded in death by brothers , Clem and Casimir Kopko.

Surviving are her husband, Leonard; daughters , Linda Banos, Mountaintop; Ann Marie Quoos, Nanticoke; sons , Leonard Jr., Nanticoke; David, Glen Lyon, Newport Township; eight grandchildren; sisters , Victoria Hillman and Dorothy Garavaglia, both of Nanticoke; brothers , Walter, Chester, Daniel and John, all of Nanticoke; Leon, Hanover Township.

Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Nanticoke.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home, 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke.
